THIS FILM TELLS the inspiring story of the Merikins, descendants of enslaved Africans from the United States, who fought for the British in the War of 1812. After the war they were brought to Trinidad, where they set up their own villages in the south of the island, and formed a unique community.

BASED ON A children’s story by Al Ramsawak, this is the tale of how Monkey Polo tricks Sly Mongoose.

THE ART OF stickfighting in Trinidad is a sacred tradition, passed on with reverence from one generation to the next. This deeply felt, contemplative film explores the world of stickfighting and its attendant rituals, including the making of the stick — the bois — and the drumming that accompanies the fight.
