IWD fishing comp a success
International Women’s Day was celebrated on Hammond Island last weekend with a very successful fishing competition.
The fishing comp was run from 11am – 3pm after an early church service at St Joseph’s followed by morning tea, thanks to Sacred Heart School, and registrations for nearly 30 fisherwomen at the Hammond Community Hall, thanks to Torres Strait Island Regional Council.
On what was a very hot day, water bottles and fruit sponsored by Meriba Ged Ngalpun Mab (MGNM) were much appreciated, and there were also lucky dips.
Overall there were smiles all around as the women brought their reels and good cheer to a good day.

CENTRE: Four prize winners: Anima Dorante, Aunty Anima Pearson, Annie Garnier, Dawn Bindoraho
