Cimarron Hills Welcomes Tom Kriskey & Jeff Thomasson to our TEAM!

First of all, let me say thank you for this opportunity to return to Texas and more specifically the Austin area - a place I sincerely consider home. Secondly, to begin making an impact for the members of this club and within this community is my priority and goal, and I along with my team, am going to work very hard to achieve the results that you desire as members of the amazing Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club. I was born and raised in the small town of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and graduated from both the University of South Dakota and the Texas Culinary Academy right down the road in Austin. While living in Austin for school, I met the woman who would end up becoming my wife, Jen. Ever since her graduation from UT, we’ve been together “roaming” the West Coast and starting our family. In fact, our 10th wedding anniversary is three days away as I write. After joining Troon Golf in 2002, we have enjoyed living in Sacramento, CA; Bend, OR; and the last 3 ½ years in Las Vegas, NV while at the Revere Golf Club. We are raising three beautiful daughters…Abbie, Zoe, and Ellie, and they are so excited to be here near their cousins and to have already found fun neighborhood kids to pal around with. If there is anything I or my team can do to meet and exceed your expectations of your club, please feel free to let me know!

All the best,

Tom Kriskey, Director of Food & Beverage

Junior Tennis

Tennis, 512.763.8739 Helpful Tips from the Tennis Professional

1. 2.

Our junior tennis players had a busy June as many participated in classes and camps at Cimarron Hills, and several competed in local tournaments. Many of our kids are now veteran players, and many are taking up the sport for the first time.

What you can learn by watching your opponent’s racket:

When your opponent is at the net, you can begin to anticipate whether the shot is going to be offensive or defensive by watching their racket. In general, a low racket preparation will signify a low volley or a half-volley. Both shots are very difficult and involve much “touch.” When your opponent’s racket is in this position you should be moving forward to assume an offensive position. Remember, they must “lift” these shots up over the net. You would like to be in a position to hit their “up” ball “down,” or to retrace a short weak return. A high racket preparation from your opponent will signify a high volley or an overhead. In either case, you should assume they are the offense and you are the defense. You should be looking to either hold your position in the case of a high volley or move back in case of an overhead if you are near the net. If you are at the baseline, stay there and defend. When your opponent is on the baseline and you are at the net, you should be watching the following: • is their racket drawing back - signifying a full groundstroke in the offensive style - assume a defensive style. • racket is dropping - signifying a lob - you should assume a defensive position until you read the depth of the lob (on a short lob you will take the offensive & on a deep lob you will assume the defense). • racket is lifting up - signifying a chip or under spin. In this case, assume the offensive move in on the shot and don’t let it float underneath you.

Good luck on the courts! Kelly Marshall, USPTA, Director of Sports & Head Tennis Professional

Stop the Damage with Antioxidants Summer is in full swing and that means many months of the Texas heat. There is no doubt your skin is in need of some TLC. Research shows that transdermal water loss increases significantly within hours of overexposure to UV rays. So even if you didn’t get a sunburn, it is important to increase hydration. By enhancing moisture you can actually help to reverse damage and improve the state of your skin. But it isn’t only the moisture content of the skin that is disrupted with all these UV rays; your cells are also taking a beating. Sun can cause DNA damage, oxidative stress, glycation and inflammaging of our cells. This equals to a loss of elasticity, wrinkles, sagging, and sun spots. That is why antioxidants are so important to your skin care regime. Products like vitamin A work by restoring elastin fibers that keep skin taut so skin has less sagging. Vitamin C and E are natural repair systems that fight free radical damage and oxidative cell stress. C also helps brighten the skin and work away brown spots. Vitamin B is essential for cells throughout the body and can protect against sun induced damage to help fight off wrinkles. Flavonoids, like those in green tea, help fight sun induced inflammation. And lastly peptides which are amino acids (the building block of proteins) that can increase collagen and heal wounds, leaving the skin youthful and supple looking while fighting wrinkles. So are you using these great antioxidants and skin savers in your daily routine? If you aren’t, why not? Or how about trying our Vitamin C facial that is packed with many of these very antioxidants so the skin is left stronger, brighter and more youthful looking when you leave.
