May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month! May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and Cimarron Spa has you covered from head to toe. A tan, whether you get it on the beach, in a bed, or through incidental exposure, is bad news. Tans are caused by harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning lamps, and if you have one, you’ve sustained skin cell damage. The cumulative damage caused by UV radiation can lead to premature skin aging (wrinkles, lax skin, brown spots, and more), as well as skin cancer. So instead of damaging your skin, come and get your tan through our Professional Airbrush Spray Tanning. Your spray tan will last from five to 10 days and allow you to get that bronzed summer glow without exposing yourself to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. And unlike your grandmas faux tanners our solutions won’t leave you orange looking and are 100% natural. Since you probably want to keep the sunless tan as long as you can, pick up some of our at home sunless bronzer, Tantasia, so you can maintain your bronze color longer. And since your spray tan does not have SPF in it pick some up at the front desk. We have easy to use sunblock sprays, hydrating sunblock’s, dry powder sunscreens and water resistance sunblock’s and most are oil free so your skin won’t feel greasy when you put them on. Our sunscreens range in SPF’s also, from 17 to 45, so whatever your preference we have it here.

Mother’s Day Spa Package A Cimarron Spa gift certificate is the perfect Mother’s Day gift. Our “Cimarron Package”, is an hour massage and an hour custom facial with lunch, only $155. Just give Nanette a call and she can have your certificate ready for you to pick up in just minutes. 3

Tennis Tips From the Professionals Am I too old to learn to play tennis?

Many of my older students ask me, “Do you think I’m too old to learn to play tennis?” My answer is, “No, you are never too old to learn!” No matter what your age, or how long you have been playing, the sky is the limit. My oldest player is 85 years young! Tennis, like many other sports, is learned by repetition. As long as you are repeating the correct skill or form you will eventually be able to retrieve this information in a competitive format. From my personal experience, I really enjoy taking a beginner/intermediate or a group of beginner/intermediates and instructing them. They tend to be eager to learn and are very enthusiastic. Also, they put in the practice time and thus enjoy positive reinforcement. As a player advances in skill, some tend to rest on their laurels. They tend to play more matches, but seldom work on particular weaknesses or adding more and new weapons into their game. It is quite common that a newer player to the game can overpass a more experienced player in a short period. Even the top Pros set aside time from their touring to rest and take fundamental lessons from their pros. It is easier to learn “good skills and habits” than to break “bad ones.” In almost 25 years of teaching, I have never found anyone that I could not help to improve his or her game, attitude, or footwork. This is the reason why millions of people find tennis so much fun and challenging at the same time. Do not let anyone tell you that you are too old to learn to play tennis. Good luck on the courts!

Golf Rule of the Month: Unplayable Lie Due to recent rains and the severity of the native grasses, the Unplayable Lie can be a frequent situation at Cimarron Hills. This is how to proceed if you find yourself with an Unplayable Lie: The player may deem his ball unplayable at any place on the course, except when the ball is in a water hazard. The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable. If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under penalty of one stroke: a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or c. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole. If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker. When proceeding under this Rule, the player may lift and clean his ball or substitute a ball. PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE: Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes.

From the desk of your General Manager Our spring golfing season is well under way. In most regards, Mother Nature has been pretty kind to us setting up great playing conditions on our Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. As of this writing, the greens have had four weeks to heal from the core aerification procedure administered to them by Matt Cimino and his outstanding crew- and they’re looking and rolling great! Things are shaping up for a great golfing season. By the time you get this edition of the Courier, the Ladies Member-Guest Event, “The Rose,” will have been completed and the Men’s Member-Guest Tournament, “The OutLaw,” will be just days away. Ladies, I hope you enjoyed the camaraderie and golf. Gentlemen, good luck to you and your guests- enjoy this great tradition. There are a few changes regarding golf course and dining availability during “The Outlaw” that you should be aware of. Club dining will not be available on Saturday evening May 5 to accommodate the Closing Dinner and Awards Event. All other a la carte dining services will maintain regularly scheduled hours of operation throughout the event. Golf course availability will also have some restrictions during “The Outlaw.” Tee-times will not be available until approximately 3pm on Thursday and Friday, May 3 & 4 and 2pm on Saturday May 5. Our staffed Pool Season is scheduled to begin again this year between Memorial and Labor Day Weekends. This year the pool operations begin on Friday May 25, with a “Kick-off ” party scheduled for Saturday evening the 26th. Live music will be provided by the “Bustamoovalators” for the Saturday evening event. Check out the ad in this Courier for complete details. As a reminder, you will be responsible for paying a guest fee for any non-member you bring to the pool throughout the Pool Season (Adults- $5.00, Persons under 16- $3.00). We have created a “pool guest pass” this year. If you tend to bring a lot of guests to the pool, this may be worth considering. For complete details see Kelly Marshall or myself. Pool guest passes will be available for purchase in the Fitness/ Tennis shop. With increased membership and community activity, I’ve been asked a number of times about recommendations for various home service vendors (lawn care, window cleaning, plumbers, house cleaning etc…). If your happy with your service provider and care to make a recommendation to your neighbors and fellow Club members, shoot me the contact information and I’ll be glad to form a vendor list that may help- exclusive of performance guarantees of course! Your entire staff at Cimarron Hills is working hard to provide you with services and events to meet or exceed your expectations as a member of this outstanding Club. Our goal every day is to be better today than yesterday. Your staff and I look forward to a great year. We look forward to a great month- see you at the Club!
