The GENEPLUS focus on balance of performance and carcass merit, importance of genomics and EPD’s, emphasis on structure, foot design and fertility, and attention to a correct and industry accepted phenotype and sheath design, has led to a population of Brangus and Ultrablack cattle that is unlike any other. The notion that heat tolerance and durability are highly correlated to the increased amount of sheath or ear an animal possesses is as unrealistic as the belief that Brangus cattle can’t quality grade with Angus because of the Bos Indicus influence. Similarly, the notion that you have to receive discounts because of your “ear” in the Midwest and West is also genuinely false, and we have disproved all of these things through our customers’ experiences via our breeding program.

The key to overcoming these misconceptions is a focused and dedicated selection process. At GENEPLUS, we understand what the end goal needs to look like before we mate and make the next generation. You can use an Ultrablack in the Gulf Coast region if you choose, with the same or more success than a Brangus with a #3 sheath. You can also use a Brangus or Ultrablack bull in Missouri on fescue, sell the progeny to a Northern feedlot and top the market - it’s all about the selection process and knowing and understanding your environment.
