About Our Journey

We’ve been a familiar fixture in Britain’s bathrooms since 1975, a member of the Made in Britain scheme since 2014 and well known as leaders in electric water heating innovation. But we want to go even further.

We want to be the most sustainable shower brand in the UK, and we want to inspire everyone to shower sustainably.

It’s a big ambition, but with sustainability at the core of our business and a dedicated team leading the way, we’ve already made great progress. And that’s what this report is all about.

This isn’t all new to Triton. Over the years our fantastic team have developed a diverse range of sustainable and energy efficient solutions to suit every customer and budget. Our products are designed to last, and our team of service engineers provide repairs and support. But we know there’s always more we can do.

In 2021, we achieved the Carbon Trust Standard, completed key baselining work supported and validated by the Carbon Trust. Since then, we’ve achieved carbon neutrality year on year, in accordance with PAS 2060:2014. We intend to continue, and we’re ambitiously aiming for Net Zero by 2035.

About Our Journey | Moving The Dial

From Our MD

As our world continues to develop, we all face challenges that pose real threat to the condition of human habitation. From a climate crisis to an ageing population, resource strain and global conflict, doing the right thing has never been more important or more crucial to our daily lives. With that, I am excited to introduce Triton’s latest Sustainability Report.

We’re proud to be the UK and Ireland’s market leader in showers, but with that leadership comes a responsibility to ensure that we create a business that is actively reducing its impact on our planet. What’s more, we must continue to do business in the right way for everyone - our people, our customers, our partners and suppliers.

We see our responsibility as a point of pride. We are increasingly adopting a leadership role to inform and inspire our customers and consumers about the ways that they can make more sustainable showering choices and habitual changes.

Our ongoing, award winning campaign Every Drop Makes A Difference educates consumers on the ways that we can all help to save water, energy, carbon, and money from our bathroom behaviours. With our business purpose being to Inspire Everyone To Shower Sustainably, I believe our campaign is a part of how we are living that statement in our practises and taking visible action to see it become a reality.

4
From Our MD | Moving The Dial

For us, saying we’re comitted to change isn’t enough. We are making visible (and non-visible) changes to how we fundamentally operate. As you read through Triton’s Sustainability Report, you will learn how we’re implementing more sustainable practises across our business.

Our strategies show that every drop really does make a difference. The most visible changes - like how we fuel our fleet vehicles, what our products are made from, and how we pack them aren’t the only things we’re focused on. We’re also making changes behind closed doors - like the way we develop products and manage our returns. Nothing is off limits to creating positive change and making actual reductions to our carbon output.

Sustainability as a term is often conflated with carbon and environmental impact, but we understand that the term covers so much more. It is clear that from the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals that sustainability is multi-faceted, operating across a wide range of environmental, societal and economic factors. Through our strategic pillars of Planet, Product and People, we will show how we’re moving the dial for our business as well as for the lives of people who are impacted, here at Triton and throughout the supply chain.

We know that to ultimately achieve our goals, we need to inspire and cultivate not just commitment, but action from our people and partners all across the business and our supply chain. We are excited to champion change, and be ambassadors in our category, leading and paving the way for our peers and customers to make the same journey. I eagerly anticipate my next update to you as we progress towards our goals. Together, we can make showering more sustainable with every drop.

5

Our Purpose

If we had to ask ourselves why we’re here, what would we say? Well, we did ask ourselves. What we said defines our reasons for existing, guiding us in our actions and decisions now and in the future.

Our Purpose | Moving The Dial
To inspire everyone to shower sustainably

Why Are We Here, Really?

Vision

When we look to the future, what kind of business do we really want to be? Well, we believe that being a more sustainable business will ultimately mean we’re a more successful business:

We will be the first name in showers and water heating, inspiring everyone to use water and energy efficiently and enjoyably with products to suit all budgets.
8
Our Vision & Values | Moving The Dial

Values

Our beliefs and principles define how we behave and make decisions. So, what do we stand for?

Encouraging Excellence

Getting better at what we do is our business-as-usual. We believe that our individual strengths shine even brighter when we work as teams, sharing our skills and our ambitions. We create, learn and improve like its our regular day-to-day.

Inspiring Enterprise and Creativity

We started out in a garage in Atherstone just twenty minutes from our headquarters. If we want to keep growing, we need to be one step ahead and be seeking opportunities first. Our spirit of enterprising has stuck with us, helping us to improve productivity everywhere.

Demanding Honesty and Integrity

We believe in doing the right thing, not the easy thing. That means we must trust each other to have honest, candid conversations in the pursuit of being better. Our challenges, both individual and organisational, are best faced when we do it as a well informed, honest team.

Promoting Equal Opportunities

We don’t believe in putting people into boxes. Instead, we offer opportunities to everyone, empowering our employees to reach their full potential. We work hard to remove unconscious biases, and we champion our people, whomever they may be.

Working Safely and Securely

Our surroundings affect us as much as we affect them. We work hard to reduce our impact on the environment as well as championing health & safety throughout the business.

9

Sustainability Strategy

We will inspire everyone to shower sustainability - because every drop makes a difference.

Our sustainability strategy focuses on 3 pillars that will help us achieve our vision, and become a more sustainable and successful business.

Before we tell you about what we’re doing here at Triton we wanted to share what’s inspiring these changes - the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Whilst we have the desire to impact all UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in some way, there are 7 UN SDGs our activity is focusing on. These relate directly to our purpose of ‘inspiring everyone to shower more sustainably’, our core activity of product manufacture, or are central to our brand:

10
Sustainability Strategy | Moving The Dial

Our Pillars

Minimising our environmental impact in everything we do.

Achieve carbon Net Zero by 2035

Develop high performance, low carbon footprint showering & water heating innovations that improve efficiency for our customers

Be a safe, engaged and empowered team, connected to our local community

11

Our Objective

Minimising our environmental impact in everything we do. To achieve carbon Net Zero by 2035*

Our long-term commitment is to achieve Net-Zero by 2035. That means we need to reduce our absolute carbon footprint across all 3 Scopes by a minimum of 90% (versus our 2021 baseline). We’ve already taken our first steps by measuring the carbon impact and full cradle-to-grave emissions from our business activity and use of our products. Supported by the Carbon Trust, this work has enabled us to understand our baseline, and where we need to focus to tackle future challenges.

In 2021, we were proud to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard. The 2022 calendar year also saw us achieve Carbon Neutral certification (in accordance with PAS 2060:2014), accredited with the Carbon Trust. That covered our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as our Scope 3 Business Travel for our UK and China operations.

We again achieved Carbon Neutral accreditation for financial year 23, certified by PlanetMark (in accordance with PAS 2060:2014.) This included widening our most recent carbon neutral scope measurement, meaning our certification covers Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as business travel, water consumption, waste, employee commuting, and paper usage for our UK & Overseas operations.

Actions & Achievements

Reducing our Energy impact through our Nuneaton site and our fleet vehicles

Here’s the numbers bit - we’re on an ambitious program of multi-year initiatives targeted at making demonstrable changes to our carbon emissions, and things can get a bit complicated. So, we’ve summarised as much as we can, whilst still complying with guidelines and best practises to be as transparent as possible.

Our energy consumption:

We are proud to have only purchased 100% REGO-certified renewable electricity for the Triton site since 2018.

In January 2021, we installed a new heating, ventilation and air conditions (HVAC) system to reduce gas emissions.

In 2023, we have reduced our gas consumption by 11.3% (FY22-23 v FY23-24.)

We used 462,000 litres less water in our lab and production, which is a 32% reduction in FY 22/23 versus FY 21/22.

Transitioning to a fossil-fuel-free EV fleet

So far, we have transitioned 5 of our Service Engineers’ vehicles to fully electric vans, with the next 5 planned for the first half of 2024. And while we roll-out the transition to EV vehicles, we have also introduced the Lightfoot driving system to our engineers and sales fleet cars. This encourages more fuel efficient driving, and early data showed a 7.3% uplift in average miles per gallon (MPG), and annual reduction in CO2e across the vehicle fleet.

Mindful Manufacture. Continuous improvement to our manufacturing processes at our facility in Nuneaton

We’re a proud UK manufacturer, and that pride leads us to constantly search for ways to improve how we make our showers and run our factory operations. So far, we’ve introduced an all-electric fork truck fleet and swapped to LED lighting in our manufacturing facility. We’ve added rapid response doors to better retain heat, and switched to recycled paper and paper towels. We also source standard pallets from recycling centres, and source pre-used pallet racking. Plus, our electric showers have always been repairable rather than disposable, with our service engineers providing repair and support services to get the most out of our products’ lifecycles.

Waste reduction is a key component in our Mindful Manufacture approach

Being a zero-to-landfill business since 2015, we care about reducing the waste we produce from our operations. We have recycled 589 tonnes of material since 2021, we recycle 100% of all paper used, and are rolling out circular principles such as re-using returned product components, and re-using supply chain packaging.

less water in our lab and production equipment in FY22/23 versus FY21/22

15

Actions & Achievements

Use Phase Reduction. Inspire our customers to change their showering habits, thereby saving water, energy and money.

In 2021 we launched a long-term campaign called Every Drop Makes A Difference.

The campaign aimed to educate consumers on the little changes we can make to our showering habits that can make a difference, like reducing temperature or spending less time in the shower. The campaign also raises awareness of the benefits of energy-efficient electric showers, empowering consumers, installers and specifiers to take action to save water and energy, reduce household bills and reduce their carbon impact in the process.

However, we know that we have to do more than just talk the talk. We know that change comes from within, so we promoted the campaign across our own workforce through internal communications and projects to drive cultural change. Plus, anyone can get their hands on a free flow regulator to help reduce water usage in their homes.

Sustainable Supply Chain. Championing sustainable practises with our vendor base

We recognise the role we need to play in collaborating with our Supply Chain partners, and we’re working to educate them to join our carbon reduction journey alongside us. In the last 2 years, we’ve carried out detailed supplier audits covering all areas of quality, health & safety, and environmental systems & practises, as well as desktop audits covering energy and water usage.

In 2023, we partnered with Contingent, an expert in the field of sustainable supply chains, to help us clearly see the Tier 1 Net Zero plans of our suppliers. By working together this way, we’re helping our partners take key steps towards their own carbon reduction journeys, whilst they help us on our Net Zero journey. Team work makes the dream work, after all.

16 Planet - Actions & Achievements | Moving The Dial

Our Objective

Develop high performance, low carbon footprint showering & water heating innovations that improve efficiency for our customers

For us to achieve our ambitious Net-Zero goals, we need to change how we conceptualise, manufacture, maintain and retire our products. We need to consider their full life cycle, from the moment they start life on the pages of our New Product Development Team’s notebooks to the very last time your Triton shower is used, removed from your wall, replaced and disposed.

If you think that sounds like a lot, you’re right. That’s why we’re working towards long and short term goals that will help us to achieve a product range with thoughtful manufacturing at its core.

We’ve achieved a lot already, re-designing our returns area into the brand new Circularity Department at our HQ, where we are working to better process and recycle our products and return usable items into stock. However, although we know that recycling is an important step in the journey, we’re working hard on improving our processes to ensure we do what we can to reduce our carbon output year-on-year. That means putting circularity at the heart of the process going forwards, and building better ways of retiring our already existing products. We’ve also introduced sustainability reviews into all new product development projects, and we continue to review our material use, designing products which are stronger whilst using less material content.

Actions & Achievements

Sustainable Functionality. Introducing more sustainable elements to new product design and functionality to reduce our carbon footprint.

Electricity is, for many households, a very efficient way to heat water. However, there are always ways to improve. In 2023 we launched our most ambitious product to date - ENVi® . Designed with style and sustainability in mind, ENVi® features a number of key functions that bring sustainable showering to users far more easily.

An integrated usage calculator tracks how much water and energy each shower uses, and estimates a cost per shower based on this information. Allowing you to see your usage helps you to make informed decisions about the amount of time you spend in the shower, helping each of us to reduce our impact, both in our wallets, and on the planet.

What’s more, ENVi® features a built-in timer and Eco-Mode, reducing shower time by one minute to encourage you to speed up and get clean, saving water and energy in the process.

Finally, we’re taking responsibility for our carbon emissions, so ENVi® is Climate Partner Certified. With Climate Partner’s support, we calculated the full life-cycle of the product (from cradle to grave), and have set and implemented reduction measures. We also invested in two climate projects from the Climate Partner portfolio that enable carbon savings, and contribute to the UN’s SDGs. You can read more about ENVi®’s Climate Partner Certification via our sustainability hubwww.tritonshowers.co.uk/sustainability.

As we continue to develop products, we’re building more circular practises into the process - and making reductions and investments for already existing products in our range. We know that to make products for the future, we need to put in the work right now, finding ways to improve our design, conceptualisation, material sourcing and manufacturing.

20
Product - Actions & Achievements | Moving The Dial

Net Zero Components. Moving to alternative materials with a lower carbon footprint, and/or recycled content material

We’re quite proud of our diverse product range, but making a Triton shower takes wide array of different components and materials.

We know that these parts have a carbon impact, and so we are working to identify, source, and adopt other materials that still give every Triton shower its trademark great performance, whilst being less impactful on the environment.

One project in 2023 has lead us to trial 50% recycled ABS plastic in selected shower components, and will extend into 2024. What does this mean for our carbon output? Well, if our calculations are correct, we can target a reduction of 250t CO2e in the first year. That’s the equivalent of taking around 145 cars off UK roads - all just from one change to one material. If you’re anything like us, you’re now thinking the same thing we are. With so many other materials and components, what else can we achieve?

21

Actions & Achievements

Circularity. Improve recyclablility in its widest senseincluding re-use and material recovery from returned products.

We all know that recycling is better than regular waste disposal. However, we understand that it is only a part of the journey towards more sustainble practises. We need to tackle material that can be safely and reliably reused or recovered first, reducing the amount of energy needed to process more virgin material. As a result, we are now working to adopt a more circular approach to our manufacturing processes. 2023 brought major changes to our returns department. We moved the department to a larger area in our Head Quarters and completely redefined our goals with returns. Our new Circularity Department aims to better recycle material that is eligible, as well as recover parts that are non-safety critical and return them back into circulation on our warehouse floor. With over 40,000 items recovered from April 2023 to January 2024 rather than recycled, we are beginning to see the benefit, avoiding the equivalent of 91 tonnes of CO2e being released into the atmosphere.

Sustainable Packaging. Move to more sustainable (lower carbon footprint) packing materials.

Perhaps the most visible change that our customers will see is our move towards packaging that is more sustainable. What does that realistically mean in terms of carbon? Well, in 2023 we made the full switch to windowless packaging for all our accessories (that’s removing the plastic window on the boxes), meaning they can be fully recycled in household recycling waste. We estimate that this could reduce our annual plastic usage by nearly 4 tonnes, saving around 12 tonnes of CO2e - because every drop makes a difference! What’s more, cardboard we collect from component transit packaging is processed at our HQ and re-used as 100% recycled and recyclable packaging filler. That’s allowing us to do away with the plastic air pillows used in shipped items sent from our Customer Experience team. We’ve also switched our Service Engineer Fleet over to using 100% recycled and reusable plastic tote boxes, reducing packaging waste when re-stocking our vehicles.

Our Objective

Be a safe, engaged and empowered team, connected to our local community

It can be hard to take a business at face value when it feels like that business doesn’t even have a face. That’s why we work hard to foster a community inside and outside of our day-to-day working lives.

Back in the “good old days”, Triton was founded in a small garage in Atherstone, Warwickshire - only 25 minutes away from our current HQ. We’re proud of our humble beginnings, and we love to give back to our local community that has been our home for over 45 years. What’s more, so many of our brilliant team are from or live in the local area, which means we’re not just a place of work, we’re a recognisable name in our surroundings.

For us to achieve our ambitious Net Zero goals, we need a team of talented, dedicated, hard working and innovative people. Without blowing our own trumpet, we’re proud to say we’ve got just a team. What’s more, we’re not only interested in how we can cut our carbon impact, but how we can support local community initiatives, give back to charities, and make the world around us a little bit easier to live in.

Our Charities & Partners

Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice

Offering outstanding palliative, respite and end of life care for babies with life-threatening or lifelimiting conditions, Zoe’s Place have long been a close partner of ours. We provide year round sponsorship, supporting their yearly Go Yellow campaign as well as providing Christmas and Easter gifts, vital equipment and more. So many Triton staff have a close relationship with the charity and have kindly and proudly supported them in their own way with our support.

Canal & River Trust

In 2022, we partnered with the Canal & River Trust, sponsoring a stretch of waterway close to our headquarters. We’ve completed a number of clean up events, where different teams of Triton volunteers take to the canal. Armed with litter pickers and tools, they’ve helped to clean up the tow path and water, repaint and rebuild fences, and encourage wildlife back to the area by installing bird boxes. Our team love this partnership so much that more and more people register to get involved each year!

26
People - Our Charities & Partners | Moving The Dial

Marine Conservation Society

Beginning in 2021, our relationship with the Marine Conservation Society has continued to grow each year. We’ve helped to educate the public about harmful ‘Forever Chemicals’ (PFAS) that end up in oceans, supported Plastic Free July with internal events and incentives, and newly for 2024, started an engagement program that is helping our own Triton employees to understand the impact that the oceans can have on capturing carbon.

Nuneaton Food Banks

At the start of 2022, we were proud to have donated over 225 kilos of food to the Nuneaton Foodbank, working to combat poverty and hunger across the area.

Other Drops (That Make A Difference)

There’s always something going on at Triton HQ, and as much as the big stories deserve their place in the spotlight, we felt we should mention just a handful of the fantastic charity work that goes on all the time on site. From t-shirt days in support of Mental Health Awareness week, free hot drinks and baked goods for Blue Monday, Christmas Jumper Day fundraising, raffles in support of local charities and MacMillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning, there’s always a slice of good will on offer at Triton. What’s more, so many of our brilliant employees are the ones to initiate or even help run so many of these amazing events. We’re proud to be a part of a fantastic community of people, and if we’re honest, we thought they were worth bragging about.

27

Actions & Achievements

Growing Our People. Educating and upskilling our employees and local community.

We don’t just want Triton to be a great place to work - we want our employees to feel supported, challenged, and prepared for whatever endeavours they wish to pursue.

In 2023, we introducted the LEAPT program. Aimed at our Operations teams, LEAPT is an accredited apprenticeship program that gives our employees skills to operate in a lean way. This involves identifying tasks that could be improved for efficiency, and doing so by using different, recognised techniques.

We also support Team Leader training and development that upskills employees into management positions, supporting our team as they grow.

Speaking of learning, we offer all employees the chance to undertake additional training schemes and courses through professional institutions to help develop and nurture future change makers.

And while we’re on the topic of the future, we proudly offer apprenticeship and work experience programmes to students from around the midlands, from all backgrounds, and at all levels from local secondary school Oak Woods to Loughborough University’s School Of Design.
