AWARD WINNER PROFILE

Paulo Longhin

Best Chef

I grew up in a family where the entire food process, from preparation to completion, was always highly valued. This tradition comes from my Italian paternal grandmother, who turned every meal into a ritual, bringing the family together to enjoy the flavors at the table. These warm memories have deeply influenced me and ignited my passion for cooking. I started my career in São Paulo, working in some of the city’s finest restaurants. Driven by a desire to explore ancient culinary traditions, I moved to Barcelona in 2007 to immerse myself in Mediterranean cuisine. My European journey began at Can Bosch, a Michelin-starred restaurant since 1984, where I spent several years learning from the best. Later, I joined Hotel Arts Barcelona, where I managed its prestigious catering service, organizing large-scale events while upholding the hotel’s high standards. In 2020, I ventured into the yachting world, which has continued to inspire and challenge me. From the beginning of my career to where I am now, my culinary philosophy remains unchanged: “I see immense potential in every ingredient, whether sophisticated or simple – each has its own value.” My goal is always to deliver exceptional dishes that meet the unique needs and tastes of my clients.

B In 1983, for the first time in its history, the America’s Cup was won by a boat that was not representing the U.S. From what country did the winning boat hail?

C What two-word phrase refers to the last part of a boat’s rope or chain, also used to refer metaphorically to doing something unpleasant until it is completely finished?

D What was the name of the US presidential yacht commissioned by Herbert Hoover until it was sold by Jimmy Carter?

E Not just a term for train cars, which word can also refer to a ship’s galley/kitchen?
