The Impact Zone

Chloe Hoyt

Did you know that you don’t have to believe every thought that comes into your head? Maybe you did, Or maybe you didn’t, Or maybe you’re somewhere in between, Like me, Still struggling with the reality of who I am, Who I could have been, And who I will one day be. I am my own worst enemy. I hurt my own feelings when I weigh my value of myself and my emotions On the same broken scale. I like to pick myself apart, Thread by thread, Til’ I’m torn, shredded, and raw. This is the impact zone -Chilled to the bone, Drowning, barely breathing, Wave after tumbling wave crests and crashes on you, Sinking you further and further into the depths of your mind, Burying you in your worst fears and your most endeavoring insecurities. The voices in your head come alive at night, Scraping sin from your bones, Laying it barren upon the table -Just to haunt you And to taunt you. But did you know that you’re not alone? Did you know that everyone gets caught in the impact zone? I know that you know That it hurts, And I’m sorry to say that it will hurt, Now and then, And sometimes, all the time, But eventually, it will end, And when it does, You’ll feel lighter, You’ll feel clean, “Washed and made white as snow, ” All because you chose to make it through the impact zone.
