The Days Pull An Elastic Band
Ashley Shahi
After Emily Dickinson The days pull an elastic band From one moment to another, Stretched taut from a foreign hand, That threatens to drag me under, Two successful shoes to fill, And failure I won’t dare forgive I run from point A to B until I have no time left to give, Carry on - carry on! Some cry and some plea, All the while adding strain upon, The elastic band pulling at me, Farther and farther it goes, Until soft silicon turns stiff, To where no one knows A broken raft long set adrift, But it doesn’t last eternity Even rock one day turns to scraps, The sun will set down inevitably, The day that elastic finally snaps.
