Athletics Coaches Awards: 2013 LIS Field Hockey Division I Coach of the Year: Margie Vaughan Snead ’85 2013 LIS Cross Country Coach of the Year: Laura Hamlin Weiler ’00 Trinity received the 1st Team Safe Sports School award from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. The award recognizes schools for their superior efforts made to protect youth athletes. On January 4, Dick Harman was recognized for 25 years of volunteer work as the “voice of the Titans” at both girls and boy basketball games. “Mr. Harman has been the public address announcer at the highest levels of professional and collegiate sports, and he brings that level of professionalism to every one of our games,” said Athletic Director Eric Gobble. “Mr. Harman’s strong voice and practiced expertise serve to enhance the Trinity basketball experience for fans and players alike,” said Gobble.

FALL SPORTS

Girls Cross Country The girls cross country team came into the season with high expectations after last year’s League of Independent Schools (LIS) Championship. The team worked hard all summer and came into the season well-prepared but suffered several injuries during the season that proved to be detrimental. The team’s spirit remained strong, however, with leadership from senior co-captains Elizabeth Bell and Molly Breidenbaugh. The team finished the year on a good note, finishing fourth in the LIS and fifth in the state. Sophomore Katie Bowe made All-LIS and All-State for the second consecutive year, finishing fourth in both meets. Breidenbaugh won her second consecutive LIS title, setting a course record and winning by over one minute in a dominating performance. The following 12

week she successfully won her second consecutive individual state championship, winning again by a large margin over a competitive field. Breidenbaugh will continue her running career at William and Mary next year.

Boys Cross Country The boys cross country team entered the fall season looking very different from the previous year having graduated several key varsity runners. While the season got off to a slow start, the team showed resiliency and improved every week. Junior Jamie Hiegel was a steadying force that could be counted on to run at the front of every race. Seniors Buck Kirtland, Chase Shugart and Reid Barden provided veteran leadership and sophomores Steve Jean and Cole Shugart made remarkable drops in time to be major contributors on the varsity squad. The team received a surprise boost by
