STRINGS IN STYLE FACULTY PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATIONS Trinity was well represented at this year’s Leading Learning Conference hosted by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) in Short Pump. In addition to several teachers and administrators attending, the VAIS Professional Development Advisory Committee included both Mandy Augst, librarian, and Laurie Pierce, technology facilitator. Augst presented on two topics: “Outside the Breakout Box: Adventures in Game-ification and Game-Based Learning” and “This Archive Will Go Down in History: Documenting Your School’s Past.” Augst was appointed co-chair of the VAIS Professional Development Advisory Commission (PDAC) for the next two years. She was also appointed the Independent Schools Chair on the Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) board for one year. Pierce finished her term on the VAIS Professional Development Advisory Commission (PDAC).

Strings teacher Kimberly Ryan and her fourwoman string quartet, Rosette, were featured in Style Weekly last fall. The article described thier work as “fiercely feminist and bravely dives into contemporary avant-garde compositions by other women...”

FACULTY PUBLICATIONS Spanish teacher Chris Mercer released his third book, “Niños en la calle” with TPRS books. Mercer aims to share messages with a compassionate worldview that “provide students around the world with a compelling story that will help them build proficiency in Spanish.” Director of College Counseling Dan Geary’s article “Common, Coalition or Commotion?” was featured in “Link for Counselors Magazine.” The article describes in detail the benefits and pitfalls of the current college application platforms.

FACULTY MILESTONES

Trinity’s English department attended the National Convention of Teachers of English (NCTE) last November in Baltimore where English Teacher Stefanie Jochman represented Trinity on a panel about techniques in advanced literature. Katie Pullman and David Ready traveled to Atlanta this winter to present at CASE-NAIS 2020, the nation’s premiere conference of independent school fundraising and communications professionals. Their presentation, “Creation + Curation, Striking Your School’s Perfect Social Media Balance” detailed Trinity’s unique and authentic approach to school social media management. 6

Mallory Hansen married Brent Ballard on November 16, 2019. They were married on St. Simons Island, Georgia. It’s a boy! Isa Dunaway welcomed her second grandchild this winter. Mayhew Dunaway was born January 7 weighing 8lbs and 3 oz. This winter, Ashley Bawol married Jordan Eubank. They had a small ceremony with family on Thanksgiving. Chris Williamson ’00 and wife Mary welcomed their second child, June Palmer, on October 15, 2019.
