Welcome to our Autumn/Winter Brochure packed with great entertainment and full of music, comedy, drama and films. We have a spooky Halloween weekend planned with music from Yellow Brick Road Productions with Rock, Shock, Horror and seat of your pants drama from Rumpus Theatre with Dead Hand. On the lighter side of our programme we have music from Blackbeard’s Tea Party, drama with Pride and Prejudice and a touching tribute to one of the greatest war poets Rupert Brooke. This season’s brochure would not be complete without the mention of festive activities. Start Christmas shopping early this year as we bring you our Lincolnshire Christmas, a celebration of our counties artists, craft workers and producers. We have seasonal music with local choir Singing For Pleasure and the classic festive film ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’. To end a thoroughly enjoyable year we have our fantastic 2010 Pantomime - The Wizard Of Oz; a magical and enchanting tale following Dorothy and friends as they make their journey to the Emerald City. As always, we look forward to seeing you very soon. Friday 1st October at 8pm Danny Bryant’s Redeye Band Danny Bryant was born in Hertfordshire England in July 1980. First hailed as a ‘young guitar prodigy’ he began playing guitar aged 15, turning professional just three years later, and in the last decade has paid his dues clocking up endless miles of travelling and approximately two thousand shows in many countries around the world. After a decade of hard toil he now gets the recognition he so well deserves, being acknowledged by those in the business as one of the cream of the crop of this generation of blues artists. In a career that has seen Danny perform on the same bill as such names as Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana, Greg Allman, Buddy Guy and Peter Green to mention just a few, Danny and his band have steadily carved a huge and loyal fan base around the world. “…his most mature performance yet. Saturday 2nd October at 2pm The Dragons Daughter Blunderbus Theatre Company Blunderbus Theatre Company are proud to present The Dragon’s Daughter, a magical tale of adventure and friendship written for 4 - 7 year olds that will appeal to the child within everyone! Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a tiny village nestled in the shadow of a great mountain. Perched at the top of the mountain, lived a fire-breathing dragon. In the village below, a lonely little boy called Hans spent his days imagining the most fantastic adventures. He would pretend to fight scary monsters, search for sunken treasure, and slay fairytale dragons. Then one starry night, a tiny ball of light fell from the sky, crashing to the ground with a silent thud, and there, lost in the darkness, was a real-life baby dragon. Now began the adventure of a lifetime; could Hans return his newfound friend to her mother before it was too late, or would Dotty the baby dragon perish in the darkness? With bewitching music and beautiful hand-carved puppets this is a funny and moving story about a brave little boy and a scared little dragon that grow to become the very best of friends. Friday 8th October at 7.30pm Stephen Holbrook – An Evening of Clairvoyance Come and discover for yourself why Stephen Holbrook is regarded by many as Britain’s most gifted clairaudient medium. His 2010 nationwide tour will take him to towns and cities across the UK, and after a successful tour of the USA and the Caribbean, Steve is looking forward to being back on home soil. Stephen Holbrook is one of the UK’s most respected Mediums and returns to Trinity Art Centre in October. Come along - sit back, relax and enjoy the evening, it belongs to you and your loved-ones! Tickets: £15 Saturday 9th October at 7.30pm Richard Digance Folk comedian Digance has been BAFTA nominated, supported Steve Martin and Robin Williams, recently won a Gold Award from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters and played to half a million people at Knebworth. Richard was also voted by The Sunday People as one of the ‘Magnificent Seven of Comedy’, alongside Tommy Cooper and Bob Monkhouse. It’s on stage that Digance is happiest, armed with just his wit and a guitar. Trinity Arts Centre are thrilled to host this household name who has recently returned to his folk club roots. Joann Sfar Eric Elmosnino, Laetitia Casta, Lucy Gordon Biography of the enigmatic French musician who died in 1991 aged 61. Admired and hated, Gainsbourg’s private life was as much a part of his attraction as his artistic endeavors, and Sfar’s film delicately delivers the audience both. Thursday 14th October at 2.30pm Gainsborough and District U3A Lecture on Ann Boleyn For centuries, Ann Boleyn has been portrayed as a cunning and manipulative woman responsible for causing the bloody aspects of the Reformation. In truth, Ann was a highly educated, profoundly religious person who cared deeply about her moral standing. Portrayed by Lesley Smith (resident historian on Most Haunted Live!), witness the dramatic last 45 minutes of her life in the tower brought to life. Juan José Campanella Ricardo Darín, Soledad Villamil, Guillermo Francella Winner of Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film this year, The Secret in Their Eyes follows a retired lawyer who uses a brutal murder case he worked on 25 years ago as research for a novel; the case never brought the suspected killer to justice, and interviewing those involved once again draws him and those around him back into the case. Lee Unkrich Voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack When the toys hear that their owner Andy is leaving for university they are unsure of their fate, but when they are accidentally given to a charity instead of being stored in the attic they once again find them selves on a wild adventure. Saturday 23rd October at 7.30pm Useful Donkey Theatre Company presents… Rupert Brooke Mark Payton's inspired and meticulous play is the story of the Brooke beyond the myth of a young, beautiful, fallen warrior. It is the story of a far more complex and radical man. Following the llegendary 'war' poet from his time at Cambridge to his death in the Aegean Sea, Rupert Brooke reveals a man with a tumultuous personal life, a man not afraid to shock his audience, and a man vulnerably reaching to be 'forever England'. "An excellent one-man show... we were enraptured by Race's rendering of the life and work." Wednesday 27th October at 12 noon Lunchtime Literature Dr Jane Mackay Arthur Conan Doyle 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. The most famous dog in literature! Doyle had killed off Sherlock Holmes ten years before at the Reichenbach Falls, but had to bring him back to life due to public pressure. This novel-length Holmes story is the definitive piece of detective fiction, in which atmospheric Dartmoor is almost a character. Holmes delicately pushes back the seeming 'supernatural' Gothic elements to unravel the truth beneath. Dr. Jane Mackay has spent a lifetime in pursuit of her passion for great literature. A graduate of three universities, she is the founder of 'Literature Live'. Join her for a fascinating examination of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' by Arthur Conan Doyle. Abbas Kiarostami Juliette Binoche, William Shimell, Jean-Claude Carrière A stuffy English art expert is swept away by an enigmatic French woman as the pair pretends to be a long married couple. Juliette Binoche received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes for her performance. Tickets: £4.50 (£3.50 concessions) Friday 29th October at 8pm Rock Shock Horror Rock Shock Horror is back; and its bigger and better than ever!! Successfully touring nationwide for the last year or so, the cast are back home in Gainsborough with the latest incarnation of the show. Whereas Rock Shock Horror 2010 still covers all those great hits including songs from We Will Rock You, Little Shop of Horrors, Wicked, Mamma Mia and Tommy, the show now has a tongue in cheek story all of its own! Following the exploits of ‘Metal’, ‘Grunge’, and ‘The Cat’ as they follow the Rock Road to the Emerald Stadium! Saturday 30th October at 7.30pm Rumpus Theatre presents… Wilkie Collins’ – The Dead Hand A new play by David Gilbrook A gorgeously Gothic tale of horror, lust and black magic from the author of ‘The Woman in White’. The year is 1850; Young, easy-going Arthur Holliday has come to Doncaster for the races, but all the hotel rooms are full ... ... all that is, except for one remaining twin room that he’ll have to share with a stranger. It’s not until he’s agreed to take the room that he discovers his roommate is recently deceased. Even then, all might be well ... if it wasn’t for the dead hand ... Rumpus’s production of Edgar Allen Poe’s ‘The Horrific Case of Mr Valdemar’ last autumn was “excellent ... an enthralling and enticing show, with great performances ... the tension created can be cut with a razor blade” (Northumberland Gazette) while ‘Dracular’s Guest’ in 2008 had “a brilliant final-scene twist that left the audience gasping” (Derbyshire Times). Rumpus favourites David Martin and Amanda Howard (who appeared in the gripping TV series Band of Gold) join up with Nicholas Gilbrook in this thrilling concoction of horror, lust and black magic. Stephen Frears Gemma Arterton, Roger Allam, Bill Camp Breezy comedy based on the popular Posy Simmonds graphic novel, Tamara Drew is set in picture perfect Dorset and follows the trails of a young woman trying to break from her past whist writing a novel and being romanced by three very different men. Saturday 6th November 10am – 3pm Lincolnshire Christmas Art, Craft and Food Festival A wide selection of craft makers, artists and food producers descend on Trinity Arts Centre for our 2010 Christmas event. Visitors will be tempted by the high quality of the hand crafted items, from jewellery to jams and chutney to candles, paintings and cakes. Come along to support and enjoy our counties finest. Saturday 13th November at 7.30pm Library Theatre Touring Company presents… My Brilliant Divorce By Geraldine Aron Packed with amusing anecdotes and devastatingly honest this brilliantly observed play has ‘Angela’ attempting to find a new life when husband Max leaves her for a younger woman (Rosa – a Mexican with big hair who barely speaks English!). Using a wonderful mixture of comedy and pathos ‘Angela’ recounts her journey back to happiness…… My Brilliant Divorce was nominated for ‘Best Entertainment’ at the Olivier Awards after playing a sell-out season in the West End. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions) Tuesday 16th November at 7.30pm Blackbeard’s Tea Party Crazy folk tunes, rocked up sea shanties, fiddles and squeezeboxes, preposterous guitar noise, brass, synth bass and a feast of brutalised international hand percussion! Only one band can provide all of these things, and that band is folk-rock extravaganza, Blackbeard's Tea Party. Playing a variety of tunes, traditional English, Irish and occasionally Belgian, alongside original material and new arrangements of folk songs and sea shanties, all with a big, tasty, dramatic and totally unique sound. Julian Fellowes Timothy Spall, Dominic West, Maggie Smith Based on the popular children’s book Chimneys of Green Knowe by Lucy M Boston, From Time to Time follows a young boy named Tolly who is sent to live with his grandmother in a huge mansion house during World War 2 where he begins to see glimpses of the past. Saturday 20th November at 7.30pm Pride and Prejudice By Jane Austen Adapted by Laura Turner Take a step back in time with Chapterhouse Theatre Company as we meet Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters. Whilst their interfering mother engineers various courtships, sisters Elizabeth and Jane must pursue their own quest for true love. Amongst misunderstandings, mistakes and miscommunications, the two girls must fight for the men they love until Elizabeth can finally surpass her prejudices to see past the proud exterior of the enigmatic Mr Darcy. After all, it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. Anthony Geffen Awe inspiring documentary which follows Conrad Anker as he attempts to climb Mt Everst following the exact route of George Mallory, the British explorer who famously quipped “Because it’s there” when asked why he was going to climb the worlds highest mountain. Friday 26th November at 7.30pm Coope, Boyes and Simpson The radical sound of English a cappella roots music. Traditional songs reworked to give a new dynamism, and strong original songs which deal with social and environmental issues. The words are clever and sharp with memorable tunes, and soaring harmonies. Coope, Boyes and Simpson have been described as "quite simply the best purveyors of a cappella song on these Islands”. Oliver Stone Shia LaBeouf, Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon Michael Douglas returns to the role of Gordon Gekko, the disgraced Wall Street trader in Oliver Stone’s first ever sequel. After over two decades in prison Gekko returns to warn Wall Street of an impending crash, meanwhile the young proprietary trader engaged to Gekko’s daughter believes his mentor has been murdered by the company. Friday 3rd at 7.30pm & Saturday 4th at 2.30pm Act Now! presents….. A Christmas Tale The story unfolds from the workshop of a simple toymaker crafting gifts for the local children. Follow this enchanting tale packed full of comedy, excitement and fun for all ages. Enjoy the magic of Christmas as told by Act Now! Gainsborough’s Drama Group for adults with learning disabilities. No entrance fee, however donations are welcomed to support this well deserving charity. Saturday 4th December at 7.30pm The music of The Hollies performed by The Hollywood Bees The UK’s No.1 Hollies tribute band The Hollywood Bees are a faithful reproduction of the original Hollies. With a two hour spellbinding show they will recreate such hits as ‘Here I go again’, ‘Just one look’, ‘Bus Stop’, ‘Jennifer Eccles’, ‘On a Carousel, ‘Carrie Anne’, ‘Look through any Window’, ‘He ain’t Heavy, he’s my Brother’, and many more that were synonymous with the Hollies. Tickets: £12 (£11 concessions) Wednesday 8th December at 12 noon Lunchtime Literature Dr Jane Mackay Henrik Ibsen 'Ghosts' Ibsen's great theme is how we are all dominated by the past, and in this play he famously explores how the sins of the fathers can directly affect the present. The uproar against this play in its time shows how accurately Ibsen had struck home. Come and enjoy a terrific play about the terrible danger of living in and with lies. Classic Christmas staple viewing, we follow George Bailey as he contemplates his life on Christmas Eve and is shown by a guardian angel what the world would have been like if he had never lived. Gainsborough & District Decorative and Fine Arts Society (N.A.D.F.A.S) The Gainsborough & District Decorative and Fine Arts Society regularly meet at the Trinity Arts Centre. We aim to provide quality offsite provision, in academic and vocational qualifications as well as support for social, emotional and health related issues. We work together with the school and students, in a more relaxed atmosphere, outside of the classroom and aim to give this group of students the same opportunities to further their learning when they leave school and also prepare them for working life. The students are keen to involve themselves in the community in a positive way by accessing and working within the Trinity Arts centre.
