Welcome to our January- March programme! This season sees old friends back at Trinity Arts Centre and new faces for you to meet, from the return of Blunderbus Theatre with Elmer the Elephant and Hull Truck Theatre with Lady Chatterley’s Lover, to Kevin Tomlinson’s world conquering Seven Ages show and Gerard Logan’s powerful adaptation of Shakespeare.

Tickets: £5 Wednesday 26th January at 12 noon Lunchtime Literature Dr Jane Mackay 'A Celebration of Arthur Miller'. Arthur Miller died recently having left us a lifetime of wonderful dramas, so it seems a good time to review his legacy. From 'All My Sons' (1947) through to the great plays he was writing in the 1990s, Miller never loses the ability to bring before us uncomfortable truths about contemporary life. Wednesday 26th January at 7.30pm Another Year (12A) Dir. Mike Leigh. 129 Mins Jim Broadbent, Ruth Sheen, Lesley Manville British directing legend Mike Leigh returns with a touching view of middle-aged life that will surely win him and the fantastic cast awards at the upcoming awards season. Reaching their autumn years, a couple’s life is examined over the course of 12 months. Tickets: £4.50 (£3.50 concessions) Friday 28th January at 7.30pm The Social Network (12A) Dir. David Fincher. 120 Mins Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Rooney Mara David Fincher directs this razor sharp look at a modern phenomena. From a spark of inspiration, two Harvard students in their dorm room forge the beginnings of the world’s largest social network site, Facebook, and create the youngest self made billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg. Tickets: £5 Wednesday 2nd February at 7.30pm The Kids are Alright (15) Dir. Lisa Cholodenko. 106 Mins Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo Family ties are defined and then re-defined in this poignant look at the modern family. Friday 4th February at 7.30pm Dame Lucy Bun and Reg Since their conception, Dame Lucy Bun & Reg have established themselves as one of the most original and refreshingly different comedy acts on the entertainment scene. The triple award winning characters particular brand of saucy cheek and charm is proving to be great appeal right across the age spectrum. Over in Benidorm, they are billed and respected as one of the comedy scenes biggest attractions. Their colourful wardrobe adds visual impact as they take you on their near the knuckle roller coaster ride into the comical world of love, marriage and men. Their intimate style of `naughty but nice` humour makes them suitable for all audience scenarios and with their `over the heads` delivery they become an adult themed act that you can take your granny or children to see. Nigel Cole. 113 Mins Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, Miranda Richardson Feel-good film based on the true story of the female Ford workers in Dagenham who walked out in protest of discrimination in the 60’s. The scope of their battle soon expanded nationwide, with women fighting for sexual equality in wages. Daniel Alfredson. 149 Mins Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, Lena Endre Final instalment of Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy finds Lisbeth (Rapace) in hospital recovering from a near-fatal bullet wound and awaiting trial on a triple murder count whilst her estranged journalist lover Mikael (Nyqvist) battles tirelessly to clear her name. Jean Becker. 82 Mins Gerard Depardieu, Gisèle Casadesus, Maurane When Germain (Depardieu) happens to sit beside Margueritte (Casadesus) on a park bench and she reads him extracts from her novels, an unlikely friendship develops. Germain discovers a love of literature and with it, a wisdom that confounds his friends at the bistro, who have always treated him like an idiot. Tickets: £4.50 (£3.50 concessions)


Friday 18th February at 7.30pm Kepow Theatre Company Kevin Tomlinson: Seven Ages Fresh from a sell out world tour! Canada, America, New Zealand, Hawaii and now Gainsborough! Wonderful comedy theatre that explores Shakespeare's idea that we go through seven stages in life. Topics covered include; the first time we fall in love, leave home or achieve something important. A truly unique show that makes you think and laugh. "The British performer put on an excellent show....this is a must see show!” - The Times, New Zealand. Tickets: £10 (£8 concessions) Saturday 19th February at 2pm Blunderbus Theatre Company presents Elmer the Elephant Elmer was different. Elmer was patchwork. He was yellow and orange and red and pink and purple and blue and green and black and white. But, he was not elephant-coloured. One night Elmer couldn’t sleep for thinking, and the think that he was thinking was that he was tired of being different. So, off he set in search of the elephant-coloured berry bush. And this is where our story begins... Based on the best-selling children’s book by author, David McKee, this brand new, fun-filled version of ‘Elmer’ bursts to life with jungle characters, catchy songs, and beautiful hand-crafted puppets! Tickets: £4.50 (£3.50 concessions) Wednesday 23rd February at 12 noon Lunchtime Literature Dr Jane Mackay 'Dubliners' by James Joyce By audience request we are looking at Joyce's vivid recreation of his home town at the turn of the 19th century. Although it is his first major work, we can see the beginnings of his love of language and his perceptive reading of the wonderful characters to whom he introduces us. Sophia Coppola. 97 Mins Stephen Dorff, Elle Fanning, Chris Pontius A playboy actor is forced to pause when his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Fanning) from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at his Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny (Dorff) to face up to where he is in life and confront the question that we all must: which path in life will you take? Tickets: £4.50 (£3.50 concessions) Friday 25th February at 7.30pm Roger Llewellyn in Sherlock Holmes… the Death and Life. In this wryly humorous tale, of murder, mystery & the occult.....’the world's greatest detective refuses to leave the stage!’ ‘A fantasy based upon a fiction’, finds Conan Doyle tiring of his ‘intolerably arrogant Sherlock Holmes’, and inventing the malevolent Moriarty, to dispose of him. But Doyle's dangerous strategy, combined with his passion for raising the spirits of the dead, has rather more surreal and dramatic consequences than he bargains for! Saturday 26th February at 7.30pm TRON: LEGACY (PG) Dir. Joseph Kosinski. Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde Sequel to the ground breaking 80’s classic, TRON: Legacy sees Flynn (Bridges) 28 years later in control of his own digital realm where he has been living for years. Wednesday 2nd March at 7.30pm Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest (PG) Dir. Anthony Geffen 94 Mins Awe inspiring documentary which follows Conrad Anker as he attempts to climb Mt Everest following the exact route of George Mallory, the British explorer who famously quipped “Because it’s there” when asked why he was going to climb the world’s highest mountain. Thursday 3rd March at 7.30pm The Hull Truck production of Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence Adapted and directed by Nick Lane Lady Constance Chatterley is trapped in a loveless marriage. Injured in battle, her husband Clifford is unable to satisfy her sexual desires and so Constance finds herself drawn towards a man she meets in the woods... As their passionate love affair reaches its climax, the constraints of Constance’s class-led society are broken down as the two lovers find fulfilment with each other. Nick Lane has been writing for Hull Truck since 2000, when he was given the opportunity to adapt and direct Frankenstein. He has also adapted Moby Dick (co-written with John Godber) and 1984 for Northern Broadsides. He has also written “Blue Cross Xmas”, “My Favourite Summer” and “Me and Me Dad” and a number of plays for children. Contains Adult Scenes. After his brother abdicates, George 'Bertie' VI (Firth) reluctantly assumes the throne. Plagued by a dreaded nervous stammer and considered unfit to be King, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue (Rush). Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and realises he must save himself by any means necessary. Tickets: £4.50 (£3.50 concessions) Saturday 19th March at 7.30pm Rape Of Lucrece by William Shakespeare Gerard Logan starts in the first ever stage adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Rape of Lucrece. The Rape of Lucrece is a brilliant, brutal narrative poem giving an account of the terrible crime of rape and its dreadful consequences for victim and perpetrator. As ever, Shakespeare goes beyond the obvious, following the ramifications of the crime wherever they take him, shining a light on a band of human behaviour encompassing the bestial and the beautiful. Gerard Logan has played leading roles with the National Theatre and the RSC (Olivier Award Nomination). When a crew of foreign workers is massacred by an Islamic fundamentalist group, fear sweeps though the region. The army offers them protection, but the monks refuse. Should they leave? Saturday 26th March at 2pm Babbling Vagabonds present The Buried Moon In the darkest corners, among the wavering tussocks and the trembling mools, the muddy, black bogs and the great twisted snags…The Things dwell. Creeping, crawling, slopping horrors that hide in the gloom of the fen. Boggles! Boggarts! Witches! Will-o-the-wykes! Fear not, for the Maiden of the Moon looks after the village folk; brightly guiding them through the night away from the Things who would sneak and sneer and gobble them up! But who looks after the Maiden? And what would the village folk do if she disappeared? One dark night the light is out, and so are the Things… Join the Babbling Vagabonds; those scaredy-cats who brought you The Shadow of the Firebird and The Lonely Giant for a frightful slice of theatrical magic. Whispers and shadows will whisk you away on a spooky adventure to a time long gone, when Lincolnshire folk feared to go out in the dark unless the moon beamed bright. Wednesday 30th March at 12 noon Lunchtime Literature Dr Jane Mackay 'Anna Karenina' by Tolstoy Come and meet one of Tolstoy's most intriguing heroines, the respectably married Anna who has a scandalous affair with the dashing Count Vronsky. Her selfdestructive actions are contrasted with the story of Levin, a Tolstoy self-portrait. Come and enjoy one of the classic tales of a Russia already disappearing in 1877. Wednesday 30th March at 7.30pm Chico and Rita (15) Dirs. Javier Mariscal & Fernando Trueba. 94 Mins Voices of Mario Guerra, Limara Meneses, Estrella Morente A beautifully animated classic love story brimming with charm and alive with the spirit of Latin jazz begins on a steamy night in a Havana1948. Chico, a rising jazz pianist, is entranced by a beautiful young songbird named Rita; she will turn out to be the key to his success and most certainly the girl of his dreams. Centre Screen West Lindsey is a brand new rural touring cinema venture, starting in the New Year and is based at the Trinity Arts Centre. Gainsborough & District Decorative and Fine Arts Society (N.A.D.F.A.S) The Gainsborough & District Decorative and Fine Arts Society regularly meet at the Trinity Arts Centre. For more information about the group or any of their events contact their Secretary Barbara Jones on 01427 788568 THE FLEXIBLE LEARNING PROGRAM The program is an alternative education provided by Trent Valley Academy as a preventative measure for the students who are at risk of exclusion. We aim to provide quality offsite provision, in academic and vocational qualifications as well as support for social, emotional and health related issues. We work together with the school and students, in a more relaxed atmosphere outside of the classroom and aim to give this group of students the same opportunities to further their learning when they leave school and also prepare them for working life. The Centre has a 200-seater Auditorium We always like to give local school and college with slide and film capabilities, PA system, groups an opportunity to attend shows at a disabled access to front of Auditorium and reasonable price - we may even be able to offer induction loop for hearing aid uses.
