COMPONENTS AND SETUP
1 CEMETERY BOARD –
Construct this and place it in the center of the table, within easy reach of all players. When playing with less experienced players, use the side of the board with 10 rows and use the beginner mode changes as detailed on pages 3 and 6.
If everyone is experienced, use the side with 11 rows.
COLUMNS
are vertical. ROWS are horizontal.
Place all tiles that will be used this game face-down beside the Cemetery board and mix them up.
2 players – 40 tiles each
Then give each player a number of face-down tiles based on the player count:
3 players – 26 tiles each
4 players - 20 tiles each
5 players – 16 tiles each
6 players – 13 tiles each
This forms each player’s personal supply. Each player should now place 12 of the tiles from their personal supply on their edge which will be their available flowers. You may examine the tiles in your available flowers at any time, and should not show them to other players. Any tiles not in a player’s supply or available flowers is left face-down beside the board as a left-over Flower.
Pink Yellow Blue Green
Remove all tiles of value 11, 12, or 13 before mixing them up, returning them to the game box (they will not be used this game). Players are given 2 fewer tiles at the start of the game, and begin with 2 fewer tiles in their available flowers.
Remove all tiles with a value of 11, 12, or 13.
Very experienced players who want more challenge:
Use the Cemetery with 11 rows as normal, but start with more tiles:
2 players – 43 tiles each
3 players – 29 tiles each
4 players - 22 tiles each
5 players – 17 tiles each
6 players – 15 tiles each
Players will take turns adding Flower tiles to their available flowers or placing them in rows or columns on the Cemetery board. Lines of Flowers must be either sequential numbers or the same number, but different colors. The player who places all their Flowers first is the winner!
GAMEPLAY
The youngest player takes the first turn, then play proceeds clockwise around the table.
On your turn you may perform one of the following 3 actions. (Draw, or Exchange, or Rearrange & Place)
DRAW
Draw 1 Flower tile from your personal supply, adding it to your available flowers.
EXCHANGE
Set aside any number of Flower tiles from your available flowers, take the same number of Flowers from the left-over tiles beside the board and add them to your available flowers, then mix the Flowers you set aside face-down into the left-over tiles.
REARRANGE & PLACE
Rearrange Flowers (optional), then place 1 or more Flower tiles from your available flowers onto the Cemetery board.
• REARRANGE (optional))
To rearrange Flowers, you may take up to 5 tiles from anywhere on the board and place them in new positions anywhere on the board. When you are done rearranging, all tiles must still be in legal positions (as defined by the Flower placement restrictions below).
• PLACE
To place Flower tiles, select a single horizontal row or vertical column on the board and place any number of Flowers from your available flowers face-up in that row or column following these restrictions:
- Only 1 tile may be in a single space, you may not stack tiles or turn tiles on the board face-down. Tiles can be placed on spaces regardless of the illustration in the space - graves, paths, animals and so forth do not prohibit placement.
- Tiles may only be placed in one selected horizontal row or vertical column. (This rule does not apply to “Rearranging” tiles, only to placing new ones)
- After placing all Flowers, they must be part of a contiguous “group” of 3 or more tiles. A group includes all tiles touching each other in the same row and/or adjacent rows.
These 3 placed Flowers make a contiguous group of 3.
These 3 placed Flowers DO NOT make a contiguous group of 3.
After the Blue 1 and Yellow 5 are placed, all groups have at least 3 tiles.
Placing the Yellow 2 & 3 DO NOT make a contiguous group of at least 3.
This does mean that on the first turn of the game, if there are no tiles on the board, you must place at least 3 tiles in a group in the chosen row or column – if you’re unable to do this, you must take the “DRAW” action that lets you draw a tile instead.
- Any Flower placed must either be part of an uninterrupted line of tiles in a row or column that are all consecutive numbers but different colors or different colors but all the same number.
Consecutive numbers in one color. Equal numbers with different colors.
- Numbers can be placed in ascending or descending order.
- In a sequence of equal numbers, a color may occur only once.
In this example, the Green 1 CAN NOT be placed above the Green 2, because then there would be two Pink 1’s in the same contiguous line. But you could put it in front of the Pink 1.
- All rows and columns that the tile is in an uninterrupted line with must be legal (it is not enough to be a legal placement with only some of the tiles it is touching), however it is possible for a tile to be part of a consecutive series of numbers in its column, but a part of a group of the same numbers in its row (or vice versa).
In this example, the tiles have been placed correctly.
- The tiles were placed on one horizontal row.
- Each tile is part of at least a group of 3.
- There are no repeated colors in the equal number sequence.
In this example, the tiles have NOT been placed correctly.
- The Pink 2 is repeated in the equal number sequence.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
• While rearranged Flowers on the board do not have to come from or go to a single row or column, any new tiles you place from your available flowers can ONLY be in the row/column you chose this turn.
• The tiles you place do not have to be next to each other in the row/column, as long as they are part of some group of 3 tiles and part of a contiguous column or line of tiles that follow the normal restrictions.
• If you make an illegal placement, take the tile back and make a new (legal) choice instead. If it’s not noticed until a later turn, no corrective action is taken. It’s possible that you may need to try several possible arrangements, what matters is that at the end of rearranging or the end of placing, all your placements/rearrangements are legal.
IN BEGINNER MODE:
The uninterrupted rows and columns can be made from:
Tiles of the same color: Any number is followed by an ascending OR descending number.
Tiles of the same number: Any number is followed by an equal number. The color doesn’t matter.
In this example for Beginner mode only, all the tiles in the rows and columns are placed correctly.
In this example the red highlighted tiles have been place incorrectly.
The ‘7’ is not consecutive. The color needs to be pink. The number needs to be ascending or descending. The number needs to be a ‘3’.
REARRANGE IN DETAIL:
When taking the “REARRANGE & PLACE” action, you may take up to 5 tiles from anywhere on the board and place them in new positions anywhere on the board. After you “REARRANGE”, you may then “PLACE” tiles using the placement restrictions.
In this example, you are trying to place the Pink 1 but currently there are no legal spots. You will have to rearrange first to be able to place the Pink 1.
- Move the Blue 7 in the third row up to the second row next to the Blue 6.
- Move the Pink 5 from the eighth row up to the third row next to the Pink 4.
- Now the Pink 1 can be placed in the ni row next to the Blue 1.
TURN END AND GAME END
At the end of your turn, if you have no tiles in your available flowers, you may draw up to 5 Flowers from your supply to your available flowers as a reward.
Play then proceeds to the next player seated clockwise around the table.
If you end your turn with no tiles in your available flowers AND no tiles in your personal supply, the game is almost over – play continues until the youngest player would take their next turn, then any player with no tiles left in their available flowers and no tiles left in their personal supply wins.
It’s also possible to reach a position where no player feels they can make further legal moves. If this is the case, you win if you have the fewest tiles left in your available flowers and supply combined. It is possible to tie in either circumstance.
