Grace 101: Week 11, “Removing the Veil and Beholding Jesus”

Week 11, Removing the Veil and Beholding Jesus 2 Corinthians 3 Paul has been called the “apostle of grace.” Perhaps he was chosen to write two-thirds of the New Testament because he knew more than anyone of his time the difference between the old and the new. He had been the “pharisee of pharisees.” He was an expert in the law, and then became the preacher of grace for the early church and then to billions of people who would come after him. It seems that God chooses the least likely for His purposes! In Paul’s last epistle, he wrote, 2 Timothy 1:7-8 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,... Verse 8 start with “therefore.” What the therefore there for? This is why Paul told Timothy that God didn’t give him a spirit of fear, but of love, power, love, and a sound mind! It’s because of the SHAME put on him because he shared “the testimony of our Lord.” The persecution was so great that Paul encouraged Timothy that God had given him a sound mind. In other words, don’t let the suffering overcome you. The context of this passage is all about the GOSPEL and the calling to spread the Good News!! 2 Timothy 1:9-12 - ...who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, 10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel 11 to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. 2 Timothy 2:9 - Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but THE WORD OF GOD IS NOT CHAINED. The word of God is the incorruptible seed of God. The only thing on this earth that is not susceptible to the forces of death and decay is the word of God. 1 Peter 1:23-24 - ...having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” We were born again of this incorruptible seed of God’s word. What is this word of God? It the word of the Gospel: Jesus Christ laid down His life for you and you are born again of Him. The Gospel, the Good News of what Jesus has done for us, is the truth that sets us free and gives us life. The more we feed on this truth, the more we manifest life and the more we become living epistles to all we come in contact with.

3:2-6a 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 - You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; 3 clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
