“Todos ganhamos com esta unidade do Triângulo” “We all won with this Triangle unit” Triângulo Magazine (TM) - Qual é, neste momento, o ponto da situação em relação à Associação de Municípios do Triângulo? José Leonardo (JL) – A Associação de Municípios do Triângulo (AMT) está a assinalar o seu 25 aniversário. No seu início teve uma projeção interessante mas, depois, passou por uma fase de menor atividade. O atual elenco diretivo, e todas as câmaras destas três ilhas, eleito em 2013, entendeu que se deveria fazer um esforço no sentido de se retomar a atividade normal da associação. De há um ano para cá, temos dados passos importantes para atingir esse objetivo, sabendo que temos três realidades diferentes mas que se complementam entre si. A nossa primeira aposta foi no turismo mas existem outras áreas onde a AMT pode ter um papel importante, como a saúde. Agora, estamos focados no turismo porque, a par da projeção global dos Açores,
o Triângulo assume-se como um vetor fundamental nesta vertente. Cada ilha é uma realidade diferente e o turismo é algo que nos une.
Magazine Triangle (TM) What is, right now, the situation regarding the Triangle Municipalities Association? Jose Leonardo (JL) - The Triangle Municipalities Association (AMT) is marking its 25th anniversary. At the beginning we had an interesting projection but then we went through a lower activity phase. The current directive cast, and all municipalities of these three islands, elected in 2013, decided that we should make an effort in order to reassure normal activity of the association. A year ago to now, we took important steps to achieve this goal, knowing that we have three different realities but which complement each other. Our first bet was tourism but there are other areas where the AMT may play an important role, such as health. Now, we are focused on tourism because, along with the global projection of the Azores, the Triangle is assumed as a key vector in this aspect.
TM – Foi difícil partir praticamente do zero no retomar da atividade da AMT? JL – Sim. Todos ganhamos com esta unidade do Triângulo porque, em termos de futuro, a nossa ação até pode passar pela tomada de posições políticas em conjunto. É preciso não esquecer que nestas três ilhas vivem 40 000 pessoas e existem seis concelhos. Penso é que não podemos dar passos maiores que a perna, mas sim passos consistentes para ganharmos confiança e estamos a trabalhar nesse sentido. Definimos o turismo como prioridade mas, posteriormente, queremos alargar definitivamente a nossa ação.

Each island is a different reality and tourism is something that gather us. TM – Was it hard to start almost from scratch to restart AMT activity? JL - Yes. We all won with this Triangle unit because, for the future, our action can even focus on taking political positions together. It must be remembered in that these three islands live 40 000 people and there are six counties. I think we cannot take steps bigger than legs, we have to give consistent steps to gain confidence and we are working on this. We define tourism as a priority but later we will definitely extend our action.
