PROJECT DESCRIPTION : The public domain is served by means of established centers that cater to all the needs of citizens on an adminsitrative level. The impact of architecture is best seen in how it is used by the people. This design aims to bring out the narratives and community growth that a neighbourhood will form by the means of a citizen facilitation centre.
The impact of architecture is best seen in how it is used by the peo ple. This design aims to bring out the narratives and community growth that a neighbourhood will form by the means of a citizen facilitation centre.
This project investigates the interface between the administrative governing body and the public that inhabits it. The user in this project is the common man, the ordinary citizen who is interested in the development and upkeep of the neighbourhood. The design reads this institution of government as an extension of the heterogeneous public realm that is a place for everyday acitivities and everyday influx in an inclusive biophillic environment.
Clear visibility and access given to reach the tree forum at the back. This draws the common public to use the space as a neighbourhood park.
Slits and openings in the roof enable hot air to escape and cooler air to fill the space below- conserving energy through passive cooling
The gradual journey of a user within the site
The Waiting area is conceptualized on the basis of the vernacular local meeting place that people would use in the past.
A huge Banyan tree surrounded by a pedestal where important meetings in the community, protests, discus sions, event can take place
SEMESTER 4
INSTRUCTORS : PROF. MUSTANSIR DALVI, AR. YAMAN BANERJEE, AR. SAI JOSHI
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : Every rural or peri-urban community in our country has its own socio-economic ecosystem within which it operates processes that help their economies develop. In a largely agrarian community, the equitable and just conveyance of the food produced to the retail user is as im portant as the production of the food itself. Understanding that agricultural processes are fragile and subject to all manner of external impacts on a year by year basis, the presence of a stable institution that will allow the farmer to get a just price for their produce is of vital importance. Such an institution should be close to the place of production, should be run on terms determined by the farmers and should provide a necessary buffer to the farmers in hard times. The institution that provides all of the above is an APMC or a Grain Mandi.Study the workings of such an APMC and design a Class D Grain Mandi.
The design proposes using the pavilion as a landmark and thus drawing potential buyers to the mandi.
The mono structural pavilion brings all the activities under one roof.
The form and expanse of the pavilion en velopes the site. It shades the pedestrian area from the harsh sun.
The design of the pavilion aims to bridge the gap between the aspirations of the villagers and sustainable design.
A melange of traditional planning and modern form
Passive cooling technique Key elements of the design
Conceptual zoning
The project is designed to be flexible enough to house a variety of programs within its scope. This reduces cost and saves time and land instead of having mutliple projects being built for separate functions.
This acts as a gathering place for the entire village.
SEMESTER 5
INSTRUCTORS : AR. KALYANI MOKASDAR, AR. KETAN CHHEDA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : The challenge is to design a mixed-use commercial establishment in the bustling area of the Central Busi ness District of Belapur. The area is in need of a space taht caters to a variety of needs owing to the series of failing retail spaces. The site id strategically located in a hot-spot , close to the upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport, along the creek and also along the major rink road system, thus justifying its value as a prospective and successful venture. The project also requires modern techniques and strate gies to respond to the climatic challenges of the region.
INSTRUCTORS : AR. KALYANI MOKASDAR, AR. PRADNYA THAKUR
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : The challenge is to cater to the ever-growing needs of the youth of the country in terms of their career prospects. The country is in need of new and advanced institutions that are up-to-date with global advancements in design education. The project aims to give students exposure to real- world practical experiences in the field of design. The recent pandemic brought to light the urgent need of spaces that are interwoven deeply with the natural environment and allow flexibility between indoor and outdoor environments.
The site is situated in Navi-Mumbai along the Knowledge Corridor between the financial hub of Mumbai and the educational hub of Pune.
This corridor hosts many engineering, medical and business and design schools. These two cities harbor many IT, business, media and entertainment industries and these companies have their interests vested in branding, advertising. Quality design for the services that cater to public masses and social media are the need of the hour, with experimentation for newer ways to attract benefactors.
Events, shows, demonstrations are a constant in the bustling life of the cities with younger generations immersed into the digital world.
Light shows at concerts, public installations in malls, interactive user interfaces etc are design fields that are not quite given attention to. The design of theme parks, gaming zones, virtual reality are a trend in today’s entertainment industry but however, not a lot of research or attention has gone into these areas of design.
Outdoor spaces for Cross collaboration and ideating between design fields
Structural walls as storyboards- a canvas for discussion
The natural landscape combined with the built spaces provide a shaded space with an environment conducive to effective learning and thinking.
The library is elevated above the ground to allow the natural land scaoe to be used as a open reading space, conversing with the natural environment.
The character of the spaces are minimalistic and brutalist in order that the natural environment becomes the main player. There are hints of visual contrast , a principle common to all design fields.

LOCATION : ANDHERI,MUMBAI SEMESTER 4
INSTRUCTORS : PROF. RAJESH ROKDE, AR. ZANKHANA DAMANI
PROJECT DESCRIPTION : The design hosts an expansive requirements for a co-working office space. The aim was to curate the spaces such that they bring a calming environment to the users. The office aims to host a variety of user groups and thus there must be a variety of opportunities and spaces that are designed to their varied tastes.
Mumbaikars have a deep connection with the sea. The coast is a liberating and calming escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. This design uses this thought of the Mumbai sea coast with the metal and glass skyscrapers and it is an approach to bring fluidity and liberation to the users.
