The shortage of family doctors at the medical centre has persisted for years with no end in sight, despite ongoing recruitment efforts. Recently, Dr. Pilon, with Mayor Luc Brisebois and Pierre Dupré, President of Dévéloppement Économique Mont-Tremblant, met with Health Minister Barrette in Quebec City last March. Most importantly, as Dr. Pilon was happy to report, the Health Minister assured the delegation that the Centre Medicale de SaintJovite will retain its GMF status (Groupe de médecins de famille), which means, in essence, that vital government subsidies will continue to help support operations at the clinic. Dr. Pilon also says Mr. Barrette was attentive to pleas for help in recruiting doctors for the clinic although no commitments were made. Despite Mr Barrette’s use of coercive measures in support of the province’s health care system, there are no plans to coerce any doctors to come to Mont-Tremblant. Rather, the use of incentives has been mentioned in the past, without further details. Dr. Pilon says Mont-Tremblant ideally should have 13 family doctors. Meanwhile, though not ideal, those unable to have access to a family doctor in Mont-Tremblant may be able to find one in Sainte-Agathe, using the minister’s website.
