i30 N. Let’s play.

Welcome to the Hyundai N division. A place where high performance meets serious fun. Where dynamic prowess is an invitation to exhilaration. And where one corner is only ever an entrée to the next.
Born in Namyang and honed at the Nürburgring, ‘N’ is more than an attitude. It’s an elite team of world-class engineers assembled to deliver the next phase of Hyundai’s evolution — delivering a track-ready family of hatches, sedans and SUVs that are built to thrill, whether you’re attacking a tight and twisting hill climb or simply on your daily commute.
Intoxicating performance. Enthralling passion. And undeniable fun – to the N’th degree.
How do you ensure the very first N model is worthy of Hyundai’s performance badge? You punish it.
And so the first i30 N was subjected to a brutal development program that took in nearly 500 laps at the Nürburgring circuit, and around 10,000 kilometres of testing overall, all so we could make sure it was ready for whatever you want to throw at it.
But Hyundai’s N engineers are never finished, and so the new i30 N doesn’t just introduce a quick-shifting DCT automatic gearbox option, but also delivers more equipment, more power, more performance, and more thrills.
This is the N story continued - strap in.
The heart of any high-performance car is its engine, and the new i30 N’s turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder powerplant now delivers even more power, and an enhanced exhaust note, unlocking faster acceleration and an even more spine-tingling soundtrack.
Our N engineers have been busy in the Namyang performance lab, fitting a new turbocharger and intercooler to the updated i30 N’s engine to increase the hot hatch’s already-potent outputs to a thrilling 206kW and 392Nm.
Not finished, our N engineers then introduced a new ‘flat-power’ engine ECU tune that boosts flexibility and responsiveness during normal driving conditions, as well as increasing outright acceleration and linear torque delivery when you’re getting busy on a racetrack
The i30 N’s performance-tuned engine also features direct injection, variable valve timing and twin-scroll turbocharging, while a high-capacity cooling system ensures it runs at its optimum operating temperature, even when the heat is really on.
This is the i30 N, evolved.
206kW. 392Nm.
The new i30 N introduces the option of the first N-developed automatic gearbox a new eightspeed dual-clutch transmission that delivers an entirely new drive experience.
The N DCT is unlike any automatic gearbox you’ve experienced. Designed and developed by the N engineering team, the quick-shifting automatic is all about putting the driver at the centre of the experience.
Left in automatic mode, the N DCT will seamlessly adapt to the conditions, whether you’re on a racetrack or stuck in traffic. But when you want to take control, you simply engage manual mode and shift gears via the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, or, for a true race-car experience, by pushing forward or pulling back on the gear selector.
With lightning-quick upshifts and rev-matching downshifts, the N DCT offers all the thrills of a manual with the daily driving convenience of an automatic.
Manual or automatic, the choice is yours. Either way, you’re in for an incredible ride.
But what about those moments when too much performance is never enough? The i30 N DCT has you covered, with three new N Performance modes that unleash an even more potent punch, exactly when you need it.
Like hitting the afterburners, N Grin Shift (NGS)1 mode releases the maximum power of the engine and transmission for a thrilling 20-second burst — magic for race track start2 dominance.
N Power Shift (NPS)1 mode reads your intentions, engaging when you use more than 90% throttle, delivering maximum power to the wheels while activating the DCT’s fastest shift pattern.
N Track Sense Shift (NTS)1 mode will activate automatically when it recognises the conditions are perfect for dynamic driving, like when you’re on a racetrack2 leaving you free to focus on nothing but the tarmac ahead.
The N brand is all about connecting man and machine. Key components of the new i30 N - from the suspension to the steering, brakes and wheels - have been thoroughly revised to thrill enthusiasts.
An entirely reworked suspension geometry delivers an even more connected ride. And to ensure the i30 N is perfectly set-up for Australian conditions, whether on the road or the racetrack , all three modes in the Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) system have benefited from a bespoke Australian tune.
All N drivers expect exceptional turn-in characteristics and body control, without sacrificing the ride compliance needed for daily driving comfort, and the i30 N delivers, with the update focused on enhancing all elements of the drive experience, rather than drastically altering it.
Hyundai’s first factory-developed ultra-strong forged 19-inch light alloy wheels don’t just look the part, but cut a total 14.4kg from unsprung weight to enhance the i30 N’s ride, handling and acceleration, while bigger 360mm front brakes clamped by signature red N calipers further enhance your stopping power.
The i30 N’s electronically controlled mechanical limited-slip differential (e-LSD) uses a hydraulically actuated clutch pack to distribute torque intelligently between the two front wheels depending on throttle inputs, steering angle and cornering force. This technology reduces wheel-spin and understeer while increasing traction and cornering speed, thus allowing the driver to extract maximum performance from their N.
Extensive upgrades to suspension hardware ensure brilliant dynamic performance. Zero scrub radius makes the steering more precise, delivering faster on-centre response and improved linearity.
The i30 N is fitted with an Australian-tuned Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) featuring three selectable damping modes: Normal, Sport, and Sport+. Yet it’s not as simple as Soft, Medium, and Hard. The sophistication of this system allows continuous damping control, independently adjusting the compression and rebound damping force for each of the four dampers all the time. ECS incorporates three primary control functions: Event Control can intervene with greater damping force when a significant body G load is detected, assisting in big bump recovery and improving overall vehicle stability. Ride Control performs road surface detection, and selects the appropriate damping force for the impacts detected by the vehicle’s G sensors. Finally, Load Transfer Control contains roll, pitch and yaw. This function reduces dive under brakes, improves turn in, and allows the i30 N to extract maximum adhesion from its tyres in dynamic driving.
The i30 N’s Launch Control function allows any driver to make a perfect, fully optimised standing start like a professional driver every time. When selected, Launch Control enables the driver to simply flatten the throttle, and the system’s sophisticated electronics manage torque output, minimise wasteful wheel-spin and make the quickest getaway possible.
The new N DCT has been designed for supercar-style shifting, with lightning-quick upshifts and rev-matching downshifts, while the six-speed manual transmission has been optimised to provide short, positive throws of the lever, with ratios intelligently chosen to maximise the engine’s power and torque characteristics.
Enhancing both gearboxes is automatic rev matching1 a function that automatically blips the throttle on downshifts, faithfully replicating the ‘heel-and toe’ technique used by advanced drivers to deliver smooth downshifts where revs and road-speed are perfectly synchronised. However,v this feature can be disabled for skilled drivers who demand the ultimate control and performance driving experience.
No matter what the road or driving conditions, the i30 N has a mode to suit. Choose from five individual drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, N or N Custom settings, activated by two dedicated buttons on the steering wheel. Crucially, all the discrete parameters of engine mapping, damper firmness, steering weight, e-LSD characteristics, stability control and exhaust sound level can be individually selected and saved via the N Custom setting, allowing unprecedented tailoring of the i30 N’s driving experience. In fact, the N Custom mode allows a possible 1,944 combinations to be selected.
So how does it sound? The i30 N’s new and enhanced Active Variable Exhaust System is a twin-outlet installation featuring three settings, allowing the driver to select the ideal level of exhaust sound for the conditions – keep it subdued around town, or allow the engine’s full vocal range to be enjoyed when the open road or track beckons. In its most sporting setting, throttle lifts and downshifts bring a thrilling volley of rasping crackles and pops that have to be heard to be appreciated.
The new i30 N features an exterior designed to cheat wind and win hearts.
New front and rear bumper designs, a new lighting system featuring integrated LED DRLs, and new-look taillights give the familiar i30 N a fresh and aggressive new look, while the cascading grille seems drawn to the tarmac below, making no secret of its performance potential.
At the rear, new and larger exhaust outlets forewarn of the i30 N’s exhilarating soundtrack, while the dual-level spoiler and redesigned diffuser add both style and performance substance.
The interior of the i30 N is all about the driver. All models are fitted with figure-hugging, leather appointed N Sports Seats that provide superb lateral support. N Premium variants are equipped with new lightweight N Light Seats featuring an illuminated N logo, which trim a combined 2.2kg from the vehicle’s kerb weight.
In front of the driver sits the bespoke N steering wheel with dedicated N-mode button, as well as an N-specific race computer which features a lap timer, G-force meter, boost gauge, and launch control. The shift timing indicator positioned at the top centre of the cluster indicates when to shift gears for optimal track2 driving.

Big thrills deserve a big screen to view them on, which is why the i30 N is fitted with a new 10.25” multimedia system that incorporates a new N Grin Control user interface featuring a fully customisable performance layout. The i30 N also comes with other convenience features as standard, including wireless charging , smart key with push-button, and Apple CarPlay™2 and Android™ Auto3 compatibility.
Satellite navigation with Live Traffic Updates helps you navigate the best route, while the crystal-clear six-speaker stereo system will ensure you’re entertained along the way. A heated steering wheel4 and front seats4 will make sure you are warm and comfortable, whether you are driving home from work or out for a spirited drive.
When you get in a car that performs as well as the i30 N, it’s comforting to know that you’re backed by some of the best safety features available. That’s why we’ve fitted the i30 N with Hyundai SmartSense™ technologies.
The i30 N constantly monitors the area surrounding it in 360 degrees using both camera and radar feedback, whether you’re travelling at motorway speeds or simply reversing into a tight spot. Systems such as Blind-Spot Collision-avoidance Assist–Rear (BCA-R)2 and Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), and Rear Traffic CollisionAvoidance Assist (RCCA)2 keep track of other cars, and even cyclists and pedestrians, reacting instantly if a possible collision is detected2 — and in certain circumstances even providing steering assistance and braking independently in an emergency4.
Complementary systems such as Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), Lane Following Assist (LFA) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) can be toggled on and off to actively provide a helping hand, even on routine journeys. Regardless of why you’re driving, or how deeply engaged you are, SmartSense has your back. other systems help to keep you and your passengers safe, even when the engine has been turned off. Safe Exit Warning, for example, sounds an alarm if a rear passenger is about to open their door in front of a detected approaching vehicle5.
But it’s not just Hyundai SmartSense™ technologies that are helping to keep you protected. The i30 N also comes with seven airbags as standard, rear view camera and Front and Rear Park Assist System and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
1. Hyundai SmartSense™ is a registered trademark of Hyundai Motor Company. Safety features are not a substitute for attentive driving.
2. Available only on DCT variants.
3. Available only on manual variants.
4. Safety systems may not detect all possible collisions, and are not substitute for attentive driving.
5. Safety systems may not detect all possible hazards, and are not a substitute for attentive vehicle use.
6. Collision detection safety systems may not be activated in all circumstances.
This safety system uses a windshield-mounted camera to detect and monitor vehicles and pedestrians in front of the car. If the system thinks a collision is likely, it sounds a warning chime and displays a visual alert. Autonomous Emergency Breaking (AEB) can also automatically apply the vehicles brakes if it detects a chance of a collision.
This safety feature uses the windshield mounted camera to detect lane markings and road edges to monitor the i30 N’s position in the lane. Should the system detect the vehicle straying from the intended lane without indicators being activated, an audible and visual warning will be sounded and where required, steering intervention may provided to help keep a veering vehicle in the centre of its lane. Driver Attention Warning (DAW) will recommend you take a break if it detects careless or inattentive driving.
Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW)3 system warns the driver when it detects a vehicle in the blindspot zone via warning lights in the side mirrors. If the driver indicates to change lanes while a vehicle is detected, the BCW system will display a warning on the cluster, and issue an audible alert. The Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear (BCA-R)2 monitors for vehicles next to and diagonally behind the i30 N. If a vehicle is detected in the blind spot while the turn signal is flashing BCA-R automatically applies front braking before your attempted lane change, helping to avert an unsafe lane change and potential collision.
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning2 (RCCW) system monitors for traffic approaching on either side of the i30 N when reversing out of perpendicular parking spaces. Should RCCW detect a vehicle approaching, an alert is sounded and a warning is displayed on the cluster. In the case that the driver does not adhere to the warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision -Avoidance Assist (RCCA) may use braking force and help avoid a collision with the approaching vehicle.
