Where: Toronto, On When: February 23, 2020 On Friday February 21st, 2020, history was made inside the The Albany Club, as the Association Of Black Conservatives was launched. The evening commenced with opening remarks from the host Kimberlee Shelley-Ajibolade (Vice President of Communications ABC-Ontario). Special guest of honor, Minister Kaycee Madu, reminded those in the room that the Conservative Party is one of many firsts, the party of Lincoln Alexander, the first Black to be elected to Parliment, and that the party is for a strong economy that provides an opportunity for everyone. He continued by encouraging the crowd saying “the time for political Unity has come. We have the smarts, the numbers, and the capacity, and that there is no reason why every electoral cycle we (members of the black community) shouldn’t have candidates represented, to highlight a few points.”

ost times fear and anxiety are the common reactions in times of uncertainty and chaos. So I can imagine your life most likely resembled some level of order or normalcy before the world was hit with Covid-19 causing you to have either lost your job, become laid off temporarily or permanently, or forced to stay home to babysit as the daycare centers and schools were shut down. Regardless of the challenges you may be facing, it’s time to reset your mind and begin to see yourself being able to handle your finances during this crisis. So let’s get down to business.

Rocking a Financial Crisis Like A BOSS!

Here is a list of things to consider to get you moving in the right direction:

1. Reassess Where You Are Financially

What does your current financial state look like? What is your income? What are your expenses? Make a list in 2 separate columns so that you can see where you are right now.

2. Look for Ways to Save

Now that your finances have been affected, where can you save? What expenses are not necessary that you can do without for a while? The important thing right now is to save as much as you can until you can get yourself to a more stable position.

about your possibilities. What can you do online to make money at? Can you give advice about a well known topic? Do you have a product you can develop and sell? Weigh your options very carefully and then execute a thought out plan.

4. Develop a New Skill

Now is also the best time to develop a new skill. Take time to think about something you want to learn and search for a course, webinar, or online zoom event, and schedule consistent time to learn every day or every week.

5. Make Money Online

3. Start A Business or Apply for a New Job

If your income has been affected, it is time to think about applying for a new job or starting a new business. Look at your options? What are you skilled at? What are your strengths? Lots of places are hiring, so do not think negative thoughts

Inside Your Soul what, make sure to be flexible and make room for any adjustments as we navigate through this pandemic.

6. Give to a Charity or Start a Food Drive

This is the best time to give. Lots of people are getting hit hard by this pandemic. So give as much as you can to various charities and food drives. Start a food drive in your own neighborhood or collect from friends and family and donate where you can.

7. Make Room for Adjustments Along The Way

Don’t be hard on yourself. Learning new things or even adapting to new routines is very hard for some people. You may be feeling frustrated, unsure, or even struggling to understand which direction you should go. First thing to do is rest. Take time to relax, breathe and release any fear, anxiety or stress. Pray and ask God what direction you should go. Make a list of pros and cons. Research. Try a few things. See what fits with the assignments and purposes you were given. No matter

“Regardless of the challenges you may be facing, it’s time to reset your mind!” As you make the necessary moves and adjustments to gain satisfactory results, remember you have the power and ability to create a new powerful way of living in these difficult times. Choose a positive outlook. Expect God’s best. Seek for answers to some of your hard questions and know that you will get the answers that you deserve. See yourself strong, confident, stable and abundant. You can make anything happen and God will stand with you towards your good.

God Works in All Things

(Romans 8 : 28 – 35) And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified. What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God— and He is interceding for us.

Take time to relax, breathe and release any fear, anxiety or stress.

Biblical Principles and Perspectives About Money

health. My checkbook reveals everything that needs to be said about my goals, priorities, convictions, relationships, and even the way I use my time. We are in a growth process. Our time on earth is temporary and is to be used for our Lord. Money and material possessions are an important part of this picture. Our eternal position and reward are closely intertwined with the way we handle the property God has entrusted to us. When we are faithful in keeping this charge, we move closer to Christ. If we fail in this responsibility, our growth is hindered. It’s as simple as that. The amount is not important. Remember – God owns it all. Therefore, hold with an open hand whatever He chooses to give you, whether it be little or much. Faith requires action. Simply knowing that God owns it all is not enough. The lazy and wicked servant in Jesus’ story (Matthew 25:26-27) knew that he had been entrusted with his master’s money, but he did nothing with it. God’s resources should be used with an eye to God’s goals and objectives.

What are some biblical principles and guidelines that will help me understand God’s perspective on money and finances?

W

e’ll begin by telling you that, from a scriptural point of view, there are important limits to the value and significance of money. Money cannot be regarded as a measure of self-worth (Deuteronomy 8:1618; Proverbs 22:2; Ephesians 2:10) or a reward for godly living (1 Corinthians 3:13-15; Hebrews 11). Nor is it a guarantee of contentment (Ecclesiastes 5:10; Philippians 4:11-13) or a measure of success ( Joshua 1:8). What then is money? The Bible represents it as 1) a tool with which to accomplish certain pre-determined purposes (Philippians 4:11-13); 2) a test of the user’s loyalties (Luke 16:11-13); and 3) a testimony to the values and priorities that have shaped the user’s character. Money, then, is not an end in itself. Instead, it’s a useful object that we’ve been asked to manage according to a higher standard and with reference to a more comprehensive goal. To put it another way, the Bible characterizes our relationship with money as a question of good stewardship. And good biblical stewardship, as exemplified in Jesus’ Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), can be characterized in terms of the following principles: God owns it all. Few Christians would argue with this. But if we really believe it, there are three revolutionary implications that follow. First, God has the right to whatever He wants whenever He wants it. As His steward, I have no rights – only responsibilities. Second, every spending decision is a spiritual decision – there is nothing more spiritual about giving to a ministry than there is about buying a car or paying off a debt. Third, the way I use my money is an indicator of my spiritual

16

Soulful Image Magazine / Issue 20

My checkbook reveals everything that needs to be said about my goals, priorities, convictions, relationships, and even the way I use my time. What does a good steward look like? We’d suggest that there are five key indicators of the faithfulness with which he’s carrying out his responsibilities. First, he gives generously in proportion with the level of his resources and abilities (2 Corinthians 8:12). Second, he exercises self-control by maintaining a debt-free lifestyle (Romans 13:8; Galatians 5:23). Third, he pays his taxes with integrity and an attitude of thanksgiving (Matthew 22:21; Romans 13:7). Fourth, he sets financial goals with an eye to the needs of his family and loved ones (1 Timothy 5:8). And fifth, he seeks the counsel of wise advisors and remains accountable to others in all his financial dealings (Proverbs 15:22). If you need help applying these concepts to the day-to-day realities of your financial situation, don’t hesitate to give our counselors a call. They’d be happy to listen to your concerns and assist you with some practical suggestions. They can also provide you with referrals to advisors and counselors who specialize in helping families with financial issues. GOD’S BIG IDEA ABOUT FINANCES

M

any people mistake the idea of financial freedom. They see it as meaning financial independence, applying it to people who have built up enough assets or income stream to work when they want, vacation where they want and buy what they want.

For years I’ve said that “financial freedom” should be our goal. I published a pamphlet called the “Keys to Financial Freedom.” I’ve written articles on how to experience financial freedom. In summary, I’ve taught that the pinnacle of doing well financially, giving cheerfully, managing debt, and so on is financial freedom. My thought process was this: If a person is not a “slave to the lender” but has the right view of money and recognizes that God owns it all, then he is free. He isn’t caught up in the bondage of materialism. I don’t believe any of this teaching was wrong. But I believe the Lord has been showing me that contentment is the ultimate aim and result. Many people misunderstand the idea of financial freedom. They see it as meaning financial independence, applying it to people who have built up enough assets or income stream to work when they want, vacation where they want, and buy what they want. I’ve observed, however, that a person can be financially independent

without being content. Conversely, a person can be content without being financially independent. Besides avoiding the potential confusion between financial freedom and financial independence, I prefer focusing on contentment because that is the word the Bible uses. Here are a few notable examples: But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. (1 Timothy 6:6-8) Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) Taken from Faith-Based Family Finances, published by Tyndale House Publishers. CONQUERING FEAR IN THE FACE OF CRISIS

By PastorNikki Clarke

His pleasure through a relationship with Him. The Bible shows us in Psalms 55: 22,” Cast your burden upon the Lord and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” Our hope is built upon nothing less than the Lord Jesus and we lift our voices to heaven with faith. It makes a difference. So we must seek God’s intervention. God instructs us in Psalms 50:15 “Call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will glorify me.” God wants to empower you with His grace. God not only helps you in your weaknesses but he also gives as a fresh start when you turn to him in faith and prayer. Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

S

halom, beloved. The COVID-19 virus has spread rapidly throughout the world bringing with it levels of fear and anxiety. Out of 7.8 billion people in the world, only God will know exactly how many people will be affected by this virus and to what extent. How should we as people of faith respond in these unusual times? We should absolutely follow every precaution of physical distancing, hand washing, and wearing protective masks. We can practice giving from our hearts through acts of kindness, empathy, and praying for others. Staying home and self-isolating is a temporary sacrifice by being away from family and friends. It is a display of love to others. In a complicated world, we can make best use of these days of silence and solitude, shifting to what matters most. As much as you are wired to socialize, you are also wired for quiet meditation. You may be lonely for friends or family, but you are never alone. God will never leave or forsake you. In Deuteronomy 31:8 it says, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” We are assured that God will always be there for us and love us. Take a look at 1 John 4:16,” And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love, lives in God and God in them.” In order to tap into God’s unconditional love and peace, you need to have an active relationship with him. God created us for

We may be lonely for friends or family, but we are never alone.

Let us examine the definition of fear. Some would say that fear is an acronym for false evidence appearing real. Fear is one of the enemy’s most popular weapons that he uses against you. Fear can overwhelm you with a thick shadow of darkness, controlling your every move and decision. How often does fear keep you from people and opportunities stealing your blessings, joy and peace. In Isaiah 35:4, “Tell everyone who is discouraged. Be strong and don’t be afraid.” As a matter of fact, the Bible mentions “do not fear” hundreds upon hundreds of times. So why do we fear? Who do you lean on during these unusual times? Lean on God and not on your own understanding. By trusting God, you de-stabilize fear and by acting in faith, you become victors and not victims. Do your best and God will do the rest. In this season of rest and refreshment, when you are separated from noises and human voices, you have a wonderful opportunity to have a relationship with God. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you,” James 4:8. Beloved, do not fear. God is near.

ne of the biggest challenges that people face in this economy is financial. Even before the outbreak of the coronavirus, many people struggled with paying bills and meeting their basic needs. I have read and heard of numerous accounts of people in the Greater Toronto Area who are unable to pay their rent or mortgage, and if they could pay, they had to get food from the food bank because there wasn’t enough money left over for groceries. How could this be, you ask? When it comes to quality of life and affordability, Canada is ranked at the top. So what caused this imbalance in the monetary affairs of Ontario’s population? A lack of government-regulated housing coupled with low income for more than half of the renter populace is to be blamed. The COVID-19 crisis further exacerbates the vast disparity between renter and home owner income. Numerous residents find it impossible to stay home and quarantine safely with their families due to financial constraints. God’s people are not exempt from these fiscal woes, but we have an advantage; that is our faith.

Melissa’s Story

Melissa used to be a homeowner, but different life events, including a temporary relocation out of province, resulted in her selling her home. After returning to Toronto, she found it difficult to purchase another house because the prices had skyrocketed in the last couple of years. Melissa opted to become a renter until she was able to find a home at a more affordable price point. “Sometimes, when I think about my beautiful home that I had to sell, it makes me feel discouraged and tears come to my eyes, but I know that God is a restorer and he will give me another house,” Melissa said. To make matters worse, Melissa’s life was turned upside down when she came back to Toronto. “The CRA held on to my accounts for almost six months for taxes totalling over thirty thousand dollars,” she explains. “It’s nothing of my own doing. They gave the builders of my home kickbacks in HST, and because I sold the house before it was a year old, they thought I did a flip, which was not the case. I had to 20

hire a lawyer who helped me clear my name and resolved the situation.” Although they resolved the situation in her favour, the extended hold on her account affected her credit rating and left her with debts that she now had to pay back.“I struggled with finding a job when I came back and had to take low-income employment to pay the bills. What I was making was not enough to cover everything, and my credit rating was still being affected as a result. I had to move out of the apartment I was renting, and resorted to renting a room instead. I was doing everything I could to make my life work, but with every step forward, it seemed like I was taking three steps backward. It was very frustrating.” She began to cry out to God about her situation. “I used to have a very lucrative career. All the changes I made were in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit. So I reminded God of His promises to me, that He would restore whatever I lost.” God is faithful and showed up in the middle of her crisis. “I had a dream where I saw myself in the house of a lady that I know. I had never been to her house before, but I saw myself there washing dishes. I thought that maybe God was telling

Satisfy Your Soul me she had an affordable place to rent, or at least could help me to find one. I called her the next morning. I told her about the dream and explained that I was looking for a place.” What happened next shocked Melissa. “She told me that she didn’t have a place to rent, but that she had been praying for the past year for God to send her someone to care for. She believes her calling is in the Ministry of Works, so she told God that she wanted to open her home to someone who needed help and said I could come and stay with her at no cost until I got myself back on my feet. If that’s not God, I don’t know who it is.”

Melissa stayed with Nova for a year and continued looking for work in her field. She found a part-time job where there was so much work that she was working full-time hours. With the rent reprieve that Nova extended to her, she was able to save a bit and start repaying some of her debts. A year later, Nova experienced lifechanging events and Melissa had to move. She subletted a room from a friend only to be informed after three months that she had to move again. “I was angry and I felt hurt. When I took that place, they told me they needed someone who was going to be there for at least a year; then they dropped this bombshell on me. It was around this time that the Coronavirus hit.”

To make matters worse, Melissa thought about her days as a homeowner to where she is now, moving around from place to place. “I keep thinking of my home, but God didn’t promise that things would be easy if we obey Him. I thought of Joseph in the Bible. He was sold out by his brothers, led into slavery, then went to prison before God promoted him. Job lost everything, but God restored to him double. Those are the stories I use to encourage myself in this situation.” Not knowing where she was moving to, Melissa once again packed her things and called some friends to help her move. “The end of February came and I still couldn’t find a place to fit my

budget. Furthermore, my credit rating was an issue and I couldn’t find anyone to co-sign for me. I purposed in my heart that I would put my things in storage and sleep in my car for a while if I had to. I was so set on this course of action that I went to the cleaners to pick up my warm comforter that had been sitting there for months. It was still cold out, but I knew that if I had that comforter, I would be warm as I slept in the car.” The movers arrived and took her things to the storage. Melissa called a friend to drop off the groceries that were already opened that couldn’t be kept in the storage unit. Little did she know that God was about to work in this situation again. “When [my friend] came to get the items from my car, she asked me if I had found a place. When I told her ‘no’ and

that I planned to just sleep in my car for a while, without saying a word, she handed the groceries to her son, who had accompanied her to the car, grabbed my suitcase out of the back and said she was not having it. She has a large family and a tiny apartment, but she said they’d make room, and they did.” During my first week with them, the government implemented the lockdown. “I was still working as an essential worker, while everyone else in the house was quarantining. My going out and in made them uncomfortable, and again I had to move. I called other friends and asked for help, but everyone was afraid of the fact that I was still working, so I was back to square one. No place to go.” Melissa lived in hotels for a couple of weeks until a text from a friend changed her situation. “She told me that due to the travel restrictions, her international student was no longer coming to Canada, so she could now rent that room to me. I didn’t have to provide first and last month’s rent, nor did a credit report. We agreed that I would pay on a month to month basis. This is where I’m staying today and using this as a base to really save and move my life forward.” Melissa explains that she works even more now than before the Coronavirus. “My income has increased significantly since the virus, and I’ve done things that I’ve wanted to do financially, but couldn’t. My debts are being repaid, bills are paid in full, and I live in a comfortable home with people who are true believers in Christ and are very warm and loving. For the first in a long time, I feel like I can breathe deeply. I’m at peace, and I’m hopeful that the best is yet to come.” Melissa’s story reminds me that God is always faithful. He increases His people in the time of famine. All we have to do is to keep on trusting Him.

Light In Your Soul In our daily interactions with many service providers, go the extra mile, ask their name and instead of “thank you” add a personal comment. To the school bus driver “Thank you for looking after all these children.” To the barista : “Thank you for your service to all who enjoy their cup of java.” To your cleaning lady, leave a note thanking her for making your home a more relaxed place. Send a daily card to a friend “Thinking of You” or weekly call to a long-time friend and have a catch up appreciation chat. Or bring blankets or treats to the animal shelter. By Alexi Bracey

W

e think of gratitude coming from a feeling of contentment, safety and being appreciated in your life. We want to be seen, to be heard and to know that we really matter. There are many health benefits to being grateful, including increased blood flow to the hypothalamus thus improving sleep and digestion, and reducing blood pressure. Gratitude also improves the neuropathways to the brain thus minimizing negative thoughts, complaining, self-pity and victimhood. It also increases the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin all of which help rewire the brain, make us feel good, sleep better and improve overall health. But we are more concerned in the emotions that gratitude generates. Gratitude is most often an inward expression often taken for granted. We are grateful for the family, the job, the career, the house, the cottage, and the finances. But consider being grateful for the body and how it functions, the sun that gives energy to grow our food, excites the birds to sing and bees to pollinate. We focus on the good, but what about being grateful for the notso-good. Be grateful for the job you did not get, because another opportunity showed up. Or the relationship that did not work but as a result you took a course in personal growth and learned more about yourself and found the perfect partner. Even an illness is reason for gratitude because it is your bodies wake-up call to make some changes and to hold in gratitude the body temple you have been given and all its functions that keep you alive. I am grateful for my cancer diagnosis because it changed my career path where I can now inspire, impact and save people’s lives. Go deeper with your gratitude. Be grateful to your parents (not only on special days designated to them). Be grateful to your friend who has held your hand when you cried, giggled with you, shared a holiday and visited you in the hospital. Be grateful to the neighbour who has lost a loved one that you can lessen their grief through an outing, sending a card, or bringing some cookies and being there to listen.

Be grateful that you have the capability and the resources to show your appreciation. Some people are comfortable with journaling, if so, then do this exercise just before bed. If you are not asleep when your head hits the pillow make a list of 3 people you interacted with today and why you are grateful. How did they impact your day and vice versa? I show gratitude by putting “a chuckle in people’s heart,” by telling a joke to strangers: at the gas pump, at the dog park, at the checkout, at the coffee shop whenever and wherever I get the opportunity. Some howl out-loud and I am grateful that I could lighten their day by sharing and showing that someone took the time (you don’t know what kind of day they are having). The “heart chuckle” works both ways. What daily steps are you going to take to express outward gratitude? And always…

Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your prayers. -Maya Angelou

Light In Your Soul for the needs of both the body and the soul. And ARMY suggests a unified effort to combat the injustice in the world. This mission that began in the poverty ridden streets of London, now positively impacts over 125 countries. Structurally the Salvation Army is made up of territories. Each territory consists of multiple divisions. Robb Kerr’s territory is Canada & Bermuda. His division is the Ontario central division. He works based out of Toronto, Ontario.

M

ajor Rob Kerr is an ordained Pastor, Executive Director and Public Relations Director within the non-for-profit sector. He is the Divisional Secretary of Public Relations for Salvation Army Toronto. With a heart for people, and a mission to serve, Major Robb Kerr has led many outreach initiatives for the people of Toronto with the aim to end some of the problems we face on a day to day basis. Today’s global reach of the Salvation Army began 150 years ago on the streets of London England. They began in London’s east side in 1965 through the work of William and Catherine Booth. Powerfully impacted by the injustices and homelessness, addiction and poverty all around them in the streets as well as in their own church, they stepped out in faith to do something about it; beginning a movement that now spans the globe. The word SALVATION speaks of caring

All territories and divisions have churches called Core as well as providing various services through various dedicated agencies. All Salvation Army officers are ordained Christian ministers with ranks that include either Captain or Major. The officers’ head up their core as well as many of the social services they

provide. The Salvation Army in the greater Toronto area attempts to carry on the Booths’ legacy by responding to the ongoing injustices around us. Their territorial mission statement reads;

The salvation army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. They view everyone who comes to them for help as a being created in the image of God therefore without prejudice or judgement, they are best to respond to everyone with the dignity and respect we all deserve. They believe this shows the kind of love Jesus demonstrated and that this love is transformational for individuals as well as communities. Soulful Image Magazine had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with Major Rob Kerr in November last year to

speak about his heart for the community and some of the major on-going initiatives the Salvation Army leads. While government grants and donations are always the leading funding sources of SA, community events, outreach services and community support are the heart and soul of this organization. Services like food banks, thrift stores, shelters, holiday hampers, Toy Mountain, and more are some of the ongoing initiatives that Major Robb Kerr oversees every year. As the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army provides unprecedented support to society’s most vulnerable.

1.Social and community service programs focus on nurturing the capacities, skills and strengths of individuals rather than just meeting their needs. 2.With the public’s generosity in 2019 in Canada: •The Salvation Army provided 5,500 shelter, addictions, detox and mental health beds for vulnerable men, women and families in Canada

•The Salvation Army served 3.3 million free meals

•The Salvation Army assisted 1,320,000 persons with food, clothing or practical assistance The Salvation Army has been helping communities in Canada since 1882, giving hope and support to the most vulnerable in 400 communities across Canada. In these unsettling times our most vulnerable are hit the hardest. The Salvation Army is maintaining its operations and delivery of services such as Food banks and shelter beds to those struggling. “Donations of food and hygiene products are going down as demand goes up.” says Major Rob Kerr – Divisional Secretary for Public Relations. “Please don’t make an extra trip to the grocery store, but when you go, if you could pick up some of the items urgently needed and drop them off at our site, we will make sure those families in need receive them.

The Williams Family Gospel Group: By Allister Thomas

A

lot of musical bands and groups have interesting beginnings and origin stories of how they met and decided to make music to bless and inspire the world. And then you have the other musical acts that were formed from since they were singing in the living room in front of their parents. Which brings me to W10, a fast up and coming mega gospel singing group comprising of 10 biological brothers and sisters from Toronto, Canada. Born under the Williams family name, this ensemble of talented siblings was raised under the loving care and Godly guidance of their two parents, Bishop Dennis L. Williams and their late mother, First Lady Hyacinth Williams of The Abiezer Pentecostal Church in Toronto. Aside from each of them having beautiful powerful voices, the Williams are also talented musicians and can play multiple instruments that surprises many who have the pleasure of watching them perform for the Lord. “It might sound cliche, but our philosophy and belief is the family that prays together, stays together” says Clive

26

Williams, the groups brother and manager. “As a big family, we were taught to SHARE. We share among ourselves, share our love for the Lord, and share our music to others.” The drive to create their music project stemmed from the passing of their eldest sister and their beloved mother within a 13-month span of each other, between May 2017 and June 2018. The group endeavours to honour their dear mother and sister’s memory by completing their debut Album that consists of 2 of their beloved singles, “A Family That Prays” and “Psalms 63,” which was released June 6th, 2020. Today the group consists of not just the siblings but also the next generation of nieces and nephews, whose roles range from vocalists to musicians to musical director and producer. W10 is a big army for the Lord and you should be present to help them share their ministry in concert throughout North America. You would not only be incredibly blessed, but you would be incredibly impressed and entertained. Go to W10-music.ca for upcoming tour dates and releases.

Grammy Award-winning country trio Lady Antebellum announced Thursday that they were changing their name to Lady A due to the word antebellum’s association with slavery in the south. The term “Antebellum South” was birthed in the plantation era. Although the word Antebellum is Latin for before war, the band said their decision to change their name came from the word’s association to slavery in North America. “As a band... Blindspots we didn’t even know existed have been revealed.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣After much personal reflection, band discussion, prayer and many

honest conversations with some of our closest black friends and colleagues, we have decided to drop the word ‘antebellum’ from our name and move forward as Lady A, the nickname our fans gave us almost from the start.⁣⁣⁣” The group took their stance to the next step and have set up LadyAID to make a donation to the Equal Justice Initiative. “Our prayer is that if we lead by example…with humility, love, empathy and action…we can be better allies to those suffering from spoken and unspoken injustices, while influencing our children & generations to come,” they concluded.

With unquestionable candour, she is quick to speak the truth that leaves no doubt about her point of view. Sentiments such as; “Get off your lazy assets. Millionaires don’t leave money to chance. Companies make money...people get taxed. You are here to do something better. Change and engage your relationship with money. Start first by hanging out with people who have it. Entrepreneurs change economies. Entrepreneurs solve problems and needs. What problem do you solve and what needs do you meet, and SAY YES... then figure out how to get it done.” Today, she and her team call smaller players in money matters to take their seats at “The Big Table” as the conversations around money shift perspectives and livelihoods for the better.

“And I am going to be on the cover of that magazine!” Loral said with great confidence. “Yes!” I replied. “Let’s make it happen!” But first, let me tell you a little about Loral. Growing up on her family’s farm in Nebraska, Loral was never content to sit at the little kids table for holidays or special occasions – even as a nine year old. The Big Table was where the important conversations were happening, and she quickly took her place – even if it meant sitting on someone’s lap. Now the CEO and Founder of Live Out Loud, Inc. – a multi-national organization — Loral shares her best advice without hesitation or apology. What sets her apart from other wealth experts is her innate ability to hone in on the skills and talents of everyday people to inspire them to generate wealth. She has created, nurtured, and perfected a 3-5 year strategy to make millions for the “Average Jill and Joe.” To date, the company has served thousands of individuals worldwide and created hundreds of millionaires through wealth building education, keynotes, workshops, products, events, programs, and coaching services. Luminaries including Bob Proctor, John Gray, Jay Conrad Levinson, and Michael Gerber are powerful champions of her work. T. Harv Ecker says, “Loral Langemeier’s investment strategies makes millionaires – and the best thing is that anyone can use them.” Loral’s straight talk electrifies audiences and inspires powerful

Loral is living proof that anyone can have the life of his or her dreams through hard work, persistence, and getting things done in the face of opposition. Loral began her career working with the Chevron Corporation right out of college. It was clear to her early on that there was more to life than cubicles and trading her time for dollars. Despite her own fears and persuasion from friends and family against it, Loral quit her job to become an executive coach. Virtually overnight, Loral quintupled her income while working much less. With her new found freedom of time and accumulation of wealth she founded Live Out Loud Inc. As a single mother of two children, she is redefining the possibility for women to have it all and raise their children in an entrepreneurial and financially literate environment.

It was love that sent Jesus to die on a cross. The Bible says in 1 John 4:9-11, In this love of God has sent His only begotten Son in the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Jesus takes our burdens away and gives us the Holy Spirit that enables us to call on God our loving and gracious Father. We love others from an overflowing love from God.

The Bible says we are to love one another. Is it possible for us to love everyone all the time? How do we make love a dominating characteristic of our lives?

T

he most loving thing we can do for others is love God more. If we love God most, we will love others best. Does that sound confusing? How can you love someone best by loving someone else most? Those who have encountered Jesus understand what I mean. They know the depth of love and grace that flows out from them toward others when they are filled with love for God. The reason we will love others best when we love God most is that love in its truest, purest form, only comes from God, because God is love. The Bible says

in 1 John 4: 7-8, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” We are only able to love God or anyone else because He first loved us. How we love others reveals how we love God. “He who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen” ( 1 John 4:20). Our love for each other is an indicator of the place God is holding in our hearts. The best thing we can do is take an honest examination at the way we love others. What are ways we can show agape love?

Father God, you are the Alpha and Omega. I praise your Holy Name. Take all the adoration and glory. I confess that Jesus is Lord of my life. Come into my heart and change me, Father. Almighty God, I repent of all my sins. Cleanse me from every unrighteousness and renew a right spirit within me. I turn away from my sinful ways to ask for your mercy. Thank you, Father, for a clean heart and a fresh start. I seek your face to understand and carry out the plans you have to prosper me. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for your healing, deliverance, and restoration in all areas of my life. In Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.

Soul Therapy Citizen” back in 2006. At the time, another article was submitted explaining First Fruit Giving, from Chris Penrose. Here is an excerpt of that article: In Deuteronomy 18:1-5, we find the origin and the purpose of the first fruits. In this passage, they are described as an offering used to support the priests, who were known as the Levites. This provision came from the first and the best of the annual increase. The Levites were those that God had chosen out of the tribes of Israel to minister to the people of God in His name.

My Revelation of Giving First Fruits

Our first fruits are no longer in the form of spices, corn, wine and oil, nor are they oxen or sheep. Our annual increase now comes from pay cheques, contracts, and businesses; rather than having agricultural wealth, we now accumulate finances. While the form of our provision has changed, the principles remain intact and unchanged. The people of God were dependent on Him for increase in an agricultural society, and we remain dependent upon Him in this postindustrial era. We still receive provision to meet our needs from Him, and we honour God as our source and our provider through many aspects of our relationship with Him, including firstfruits, tithes and offerings.

I

had no idea of the blessings I was preventing by not knowing more about First Fruit Giving. I honestly believed because I planted, God blessed and provided just like he said he would.

Ever since I planted my first fruits for the first time in 2006, after understanding the principal, the results of obedience, doing what is commanded from the Lord, has been a blessing in my life. I have seen the hand of God move in my life in ways that I did not expect. In 2006 I had no clue where I was going to find a job, because the job I was in was being privatized, leaving me to find a job. A blessed encounter in the elevator with a HR lady, with several full-time job openings at her business, offered an interview, and I had a new job.

Increase and promotion are from God: both have a spiritual root and manifest physically.

For the mature believer, the giving of firstfruits is a spiritual act, and keeps the reciprocal circle of God’s order intact. Increase and promotion are from God: both have a spiritual root and manifest physically. When receiving this physical gift that has a spiritual root, we honour the true source through the giving of firstfruits: this sanctifies the initial blossom, and flows down on all that follows it. I encourage you to begin planting First Fruits, you will see doors open in your life! God will do amazing things that will leave you speechless at his goodness and faithfulness.

That blessing started the continual planting of first fruits every year for me. I want the hands of the Lord to rebuke the devourer from, not only my finances, but in every area of my life. I wrote this article for my church’s newsletter “Kingdom

his too shall pass! No matter what you are dealing with during these challenging times, God wants you to prosper. And for some of you it’s hard to think that you can prosper, especially if you have lost people and things that meant something to you in this season. That loss could have been a job, a loved one, income, assets, investments, relationships…. Regardless of what you lost, you can gain more than what you started with. It’s making the decision that you are going to believe that you deserve to be blessed and that God wants to see you blessed.

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. ~Hebrews 11:16 Taking action is the fuel of results and blessings that you want to see. So as long as you create a plan, make intentional actionable steps to accomplish your goals, pray and ask God to bless your efforts, you cannot fail. Failure is doing nothing. Failure is accepting defeat. Failure is staying stuck and not moving forward. So as long as you are doing something to move forward, you are doing something good. My heart says that a lot of people are going to take this time to create incredible, uplifting, and inspiring opportunities for themselves and others to overcome. I believe you will find the finances you need to stabilize your life and businesses and take things to the next level. Once you take this opportunity to create the best changes of
