“I want to tell the story first of why we made the Student Affairs Office,” said the Head of Student Affairs of President University. “The first time I came here, there was no Student Affairs Office. We were bringing many students from different regions from all over Indonesia to come to President University. We thought that the Student Affairs Office would be good as a consulting body for students to develop their skills, interests, and hobbies. At that time, before the Student Affairs Office was formed, there was a body to organize student activities. However, since there were many activities, the Student Affairs Office was established in 2008 to deal with the student activities and channel students’
skills and hobbies to positive activities, achievements, and also self-development. In order to advise, control, and develop university students, the Student Affairs Office is divided into three divisions. The first one is sports activities. For sports activities, we support student activities to be more active in sports events or activities. The second one is arts. In this division, we support students’ development and encourage them to be involved in arts, such as dancing, singing, and cultural activities. Another achievement we got is an award for National Karate in the 80 kg class. Related with student orientation, the Student Affairs Office is a university unit which makes the student orientation program. In the student orientation, we facilitate the new students to know more about the university’s environment and inform them about how to have good achievements and track records. We also help them adapt to their new environment. For the student activity development, we help the students
process proposals. So don’t hesitate to come to the Student Affairs Office. During my period, the obstacles are just related to sports achievements, because we only have about 2.7 months to study per semester. Besides that, the university students do their internships and theses. Despite that, we have to increase our sports track record outside the university. The new policy of the Ministry of Education and Culture states that the orientation program should be conducted by all schools and universities in Indonesia. It should be conducted to make the school environment free from bullying and unhealthy activities. The teachers and Student Affairs Office of the uni-
versity should be more engaged to organize the orientation with students just helping them. In responding to the new policy of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Head of Student Affairs said, “The reform of the whole concept that the Student Affairs Office should be more engaged in organizing the orientation program and is fully supported by us and President University. In the student orientation program, we execute, control, and evaluate the activities. We fully support the orientation program in order to help students adapt to the new environment of President University. We give them knowledge about the national philosophy, civics, and character building, as well as emphasize no drug use or
legal violations. Engaging the alumni is one of the activities of the Student Affairs Office. Now the Alumni Association is formed. As a result, many alumni of President University come back and contribute to the university to become lecturers, marketers, etc. That is why it is easy to encourage alumni through coordination and communication. My last message to all of you at President University is “Don’t hesitate to come to the Student Affairs Office to share your interests, hobbies, and capabilities. Be more engaged in activities and achievements, whether inside or outside the university, and develop your skills for a bright future.

My role is to connect between campus and alumni association through programs that can contribute to the alma mater. There are 4,200 PresUniv alumni currently contributing to the world. Most of the alumni are working in reputable multinational companies. Some of them are pursuing master degree in respectable university in some countries such as, England, Japan, Australia, China and The U.S. Some of them have already
successfully run their own businesses from fashion industry, I.T, professional make up artist, and culinary, among others. We have annual gathering called alumni day, which connects alumni from different batches in one event. Alumni also participate in President University anniversary event. Alumni form an association called President University Alumni Association (PUAA), to gather and collect alumni’s aspirations. All
of the alumni programs are integrated under the “student body and alumni division” of President University. Some of the programs are alumni guest lecture in campus, social event to the community, and campus recruitment by the company where the alumni currently working at. Student Orientation “Bridge Student To the Campus Management As The PUSC’s Role”

Knowing more about the differences between PUSC and the Student Senate, the Head of PUSC, Ms. Paulina (majoring in Banking and Finance, batch of 2014) introduced the President University Student Council to the President Post. The President University Student Union is called PUSC. It resembles a student council in another university. However, at President University with a different name, PUSC is an internal student organization with the highest position among other internal organizations, including PUSU (the President University Student Union). PUSU has the role of a facilitator between the students and campus management body. It collects information about the students’ aspirations for the campus, facilities, and academic affairs. It tries to find win-win solutions related to this. PUSC consists of 31 members and 1 secretary. A difference between PUSC and a student council in a state university is that in a state university, the student council is more concerned with the political issues and controlling the government policy. However, the Student Council in President University is concerned with finding a winwin solution between students and campus management in order to improve the campus’ service and the harmony between students and campus management. University Student Council consists of five bodies. The first one is the academic body of PUSC, which has the role to convey the students’ academic aspirations to the campus management as well as facilitate information from the Academic Bureau to the students. The second one is the campus facility body. Similar with the academic body, the campus facility body gathers information about the students’ aspirations. If there are any problems with the campus facilities, they will inform it to the campus management in order to improve the campus facilities. The third one is the dzormitories. In this part, the role of PUSC is to control and collect the students aspirations for the dormitory and the problems related with the dormitory area. The fourth one is the activities body. In this body, the role of PUSC is to supervise the activities and the work record of the President University Student Union. The last one is about public relations and multimedia. This body of PUSC organizes the external relations as the representative of PUSC to disseminate information and conduct PUSC with external organizations, students, and multimedia as a publication of PUSC, such as reveal information about big celebration days to the students. In the student orientation program at the end of August 2016, the role of the President University Student Union is
“This year there is something new. The student orientation program has a new concept and is reformed to be better,” said a committee representative (student orientation project manager). Why is it different? Okay before explaining, it is important to know the goals of an orientation. The student orientation program is a place to facilitate new university students to adapt with their new environment and bridge them in the adaptation process from their previous behavior to the new student university behavior. The concept of the student orientation this year is
to supervise the organizers from the President University Student Union. As the supervisor and conductor, PUSC consists of two advisors in the student orientation. The first one supervises events. In this part, PUSC communicates with the organizer/committee of the student orientation under the President University Student Orientation about events in the student orientation and helps the committee if there are any problems and gives advice. The second one is the dormitory supervisor. In this role, PUSC supervises in helping the student orientation committee to make the student orientation run well in the dormitory area, conducts the student orientation committee in the dormitory office in order to borrow the belongings that will be needed by the committee or helps in the logistics, and controls the events in the dormitory. After explaining to the President Post, the Head of PUSC, Ms. Paulina, had a message for the new students. “Welcome new President University students. As new students, you have to be active in and outside of class. You should take advantage of any opportunities to join competitions, organizations, campus activities, and internal events at President University, because the soft skills are very important for your future and self-development. You will get it if you become active students with rich activities and good time management. You should always have a high spirit to be active and love because the tagline of PUSC this year is “Go Beyond the Limit of Love”. Strive to support and support to innovate

“The President University Student Union is called PUSU, because President University adopted a Western student union structure and name,” said the Head of PUSU, Anthony Nicolas IRE, batch of 2014. PUSU is the center of student activities and a place for students to develop themselves, enrich their study time at President University, and gain experiences through their activities. The activities at President University are divided into two parts. The first one is the activities/events from PUSU itself; and the second one is the events from the clubs under PUSU. Currently, there are 30 clubs consisting of sports clubs, art clubs, and social clubs. In discussing the structure of PUSU, it has a President and Vice President as the leaders of the organization. PUSU has 5 ministries. The first ministry is the Ministry of the Secretary Cabinet. The role of the Ministry Secretary is to organize and arrange administrative matters related with the events from PUSU. It is divided into two parts. The first one is the General Secretary. The second one is the Secretary of the Clubs. This body arranges and organizes 30 clubs. The next one
is the Ministry of Finance, consisting of three parts. The first one is the Treasurer. The second one is the Accountant, and the third one is Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is divided again into three parts (PPP (President University Partnership Program), President Store in order to help with the funding needed by PUSU, and Presunique in the program of fun entrepreneurship). Then there is the Ministry of Self Development. This ministry consists of three parts. The first one is character building. This division has the role to help and form the character building of university students. The next is skills and knowledge division, as well as Research and Development. From the three divisions, the ministry will conduct the events next month, like the President Youth Leadership Camp and Interact in September 2016. Besides the Ministry of Self-Development, there is also the Ministry of Student Activities, which consists of four parts. These are the sports division, social division, arts division, and regular night division. The regular night division is needed to encourage the regular night students to be more active in PUSU events and
stakeholders, we need harmony, leadership, and other skills. The uniqueness of the student orientation this year is that we do not condone bullying or negative activities during the student orientation activities. At President University, we completely ensure that we use a positive way. We have 14 activity concepts this year, including introducing the organizations and clubs at President University, and discussing the seminars in order to increase a sense of spirit to study. We also conduct social projects for new students, such as by making ba-
tik. This is important because we have to know about our cultural heritage like batik, because batik is already recognized as an Indonesian heritage from UNESCO. We have to keep our cultural heritage. This is the time for the young generation to know more in-depth than the previous one, make a bag from cloth (fabric) in order to campaign and decrease the use of plastic), and also make compost. Another unique thing and the first time this year is “One Day Teacher”. In that program, we ask the new students to teach in a school in Cikarang, like teaching fun English in order

This is the last stage before you face the real world. You should always strive for knowledge. Besides studying, you have to improve your selfdevelopment. Good scores only bridge you to the interview room. The message from me is that you have to be independent, be active, and contribute through activities. Then you will succeed one day. The last thought from me is the tagline of PUSU this year is “Strive to support, support to innovate”. The word ‘support’ is used, because if you get support, you can run the programs and have synergy together to become victorious.
