Foreigners Allowed to Own Property in Indonesia Enhance Trust to Invest As the foreign direct investments keep increasing to come to Indonesia, one of the sectors benefited from it is the property. This is evidenced by the increasing number of foreign citizens who are interested in having their own houses in Indonesia. Bhima Yudhistira, an observer from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef), said that the more the number of foreign citizens who want to invest in property products the more benefits will be reaped by Indonesia.

“In 1977 the 50-kilometer Jagorawi toll road became a model. Other countries came here. China and Malaysia came to see. From the year 77 to right now, how many years?

“The government’s decision to open the opportunities for the foreigners to invest in the property sector, I think it is profitable,” he said on Sunday (5/28) Bhima further said that foreign citizens started to be allowed to own the property products in Indonesia after the issuance of Government Regulation (PP) No. 103 Year 2015. The PP regulates the Ownership of Housing or Residence by Foreigners Living in Indonesia. “One of the main points is regulated by the PP is the price of the house or apartment allowed to be bought and owned by foreigners, which is it must be more than Rp10 billion for a landed house and Rp 5 billion for an apartment,” he added. Quote Of The Day

“Each of us must take part in the efforts to make the world peaceful.” President Joko Widodo

President Jokowi: Time to Push Investments to Indonesia JAKARTA (TPP) – President Joko Widodo has been quite firm in manner, hard in speaking lately. In two and a half years the president has laid the foundations of the state, the acceleration of development, as well as the deregulation and de-bureaucratization. Now it is time to invite the world’s financiers to invest in Indonesia. Incidentally, the rating agency Standard and Poor’s (S & P) has upgraded the Indonesia status to the country with a predicate worth of investment! This is a strong momentum to encourage the investors to invest in Indonesia. “Right now the golden opportunity is in front of us. Getting WTP (unqualified opinion) means our management is good, 84 percent get the WTP. Last Friday we also gained the international investment grade. It’s an

opportunity that we should use. Do not trap into the ‘framing’ of blaspheming each other, vilifying each other, blaming each other, and arguing endlessly,” the president said. Getting the unqualified opinion (WTP) for the Central Government Financial Report of 2016, as well as for 84 percent of the Financial Reports of State Ministries/Institutions (LKKL) also becomes the right moment for Indonesian nation to return to work hard.

The president again reminded the purpose of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), clearly embodied in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution. He said that in his speech at the delivery of Report of the Ins pection Result of Central Govern ment Financial Report (LHP LKPP) Year 2016 in the Bogor Palace, West Java, on Tuesday (5/23). “I want to remind to all of us about our focus, our main goal, nation and state, that the forma-

tion of the Republic of Indonesia is not to fight each other, but our main purpose is clear that we want to create common prosperity, we want our nation to be educated,” said the president. According to him, for the next 6 to 8 months, the energy of this nation will be depleted only to focus on the things that he called unproductive. Therefore, he again reminded to all parties about the purpose of the formation of NKRI. Looking back, Indonesia actu-

ally was once successful and became the model for the neighboring countries. Take the example of Jagorawi toll road which was used by other countries to learn. But now, Indonesia is recognized as being lagged behind by the neighboring countries. “In 1977 the 50-kilometer Jagorawi toll road became a model. Other countries came here. China and Malaysia came to see. From the year 77 to right now, how many years? Almost 40 years we can only build 780 kilometer of toll roads, while the countries that learned from us, China is already 280,000 kilometers. How far we are left behind?” he asked. The president said he does not want Indonesia to continue to fall behind. He also does not want Indonesia continuously stuck in negative thoughts. He wants the nation of Indonesia can re-unite to jointly build the nation. “I invite you, brothers and sisters, get such negative thoughts out of all of us. Propel yourself to the positive thoughts to move forward together, working together for this nation,” he concluded. (lpt6/tpp)

President Jokowi Offers Investment Opportunities in Mega Projects to China President Joko Widodo offered cooperation for three mega pro jects to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a meeting of modern silk roads or belt and road initiated by China in Beijing on Sunday (5/14). The three megaprojects, according to President Jokowi as reported by Antara news agency, will be carried out in North Sumatra, North Sulawesi, and North Kalimantan. In North Sumatera, President Jokowi offers the opportunity to invest in the construction of Kuala Tanjung Port and roads from Medan to Sibolga. The North Sulawesi plans to develop its infrastructure especially in the area of Bitung-Ma-

nado-Gorontalo by building access roads, a railway, a port, and an airport. In North Kalimantan, President Jokowi offers cooperation for investment in energy infrastructure projects and power plant development. The president also said he wanted to create fresh momentum especially for China-Indonesia cooperation in the framework of one belt one road. Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi told the reporters after the meeting that some projects may be cooperated in the context of the belt and road initiative. “But President Jokowi said that Indonesia is open to coo-

perate with any parties with principles that are mutually beneficial and useful for to the people, as well as prioritizing the cooperation of the Public Private Partnership,” said Retno. Belt and Road Initiative, according to the Chinese govern-

ment is an economic corridor linking China with various regions of the world. Like the silk roads, the ‘belt’ is a series of land routes from China to Europe through the Central Asia and the Middle East. The ‘road’ is a route across the sea connecting the southern seas of China to the waters in the east of Africa and the Medi terranean. To realize various infrastructure projects along the corridor of modern silk roads, President Xi Jinping said the Chinese govern ment will invest US$124 billion. “The struggle for influence is taking place, but not in a frontal sense. The China’s strength

is increasing dramatically. China offers an alternative to linking the country under the pretext that it is a partnership that benefits all parties,” said Tirta Mursitama, chairman of the department International relations of Bina Nusantara University, Jakarta, to BBC Indonesia. Before China confirmed to invest in Indonesia, Tirta warned that the Indonesian government should be smart and persistent in the negotiations given China would take a big profit in both business and political contexts. “We may get something, but not at a cheap price. They must ask for trade off. The problem is, how much can we offer?” said Tirta. (bbc/tpp)

the president during the groundbreaking of Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) with a capacity of 50 MW in Muara Tani District, Jayapura City, on Tuesday (5/9). The construction of the power plant is one of the government’s preparations in organizing the National Sports Week (PON) there in 2020. Besides electri city, other supporting infrastructure, such as venues for matches are also being worked on.

“The venues are being built by governors and the municipalities, while some by the central government. This power plant is expected to make the electricity supply enough for the PON 2020,” said the president. The data shows the electricity supply in Papua and West Papua is currently at 280 MW and the government targets to have 730 MW in 2019. The president instructed the ESDM Minister to prioritize the use of gas fuel for power plants, given it’s more environmentally friendly. He also encouraged the finding and usage of more new renewable energy sources. “We prioritize to use the gas, not coal. There are a number of power plants which already use more environmentally friendly

fuel such as gas, microhydro, solar, and even ocean currents in East Nusatenggara (NTT).” said the president. The government has targeted to supply 600 villages with electricity from solar power plants in the next three years. “Today in Papua there are 22 villages and in North Maluku there are 13 villages already got the electricity,” the president added. Some other power plants have been inaugurated recently, namely the Steam Power Plant (PLTU) in Tidore with a capacity of 2 × 7 MW, Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) in Lanny Jaya with a capacity of 74 KW, PLTMH in Tolikara with 136 KW capacity, and Solar Power Plants (PLTS) centered in Papua and West Papua. Major changes are needed in the national manufacturing sector to embrace the fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0, especially on the innovation and sustainable production system.

When a country is entering the Industry 4.0, a tho rough and sustainable industrial growth will occur. Therefore, we have prepared four strategic steps for Indonesia to implement the Industry 4.0, “said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto while attending the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2017 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Friday (5/12). The first step, according to Airlangga, is encouraging the workforce in Indonesia to upskill and to keep updating their knowledge on informa-

tion technology and its application in the production lines. “One way to do that is by linking and matching the curriculum of the vocational schools with the needs of industry,” he said. The program to prepare ready-to-use workers for the industry has set the target of one million skilled labors by 2019. The second step, Airlangga said, is using the digital technology to boost productivity and competitiveness, especially in small and medium scale industries (SMIs) so as to penetrate the export market through SMIs e-smart program.

Enggartiasto’s Strategy to Fights against Sugar ‘Samurai’ bp.blogspot.com

Considering the pricing of staple foods unfair, Trade Minis ter Enggartiasto Lukita has taken the hard way. He tied up the producers and distributors with a pricing agreement and whoever broke it will be punished. “I had enough,” he told a press conference at his office in Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (5/18). “Therefore, I take this risk.” Enggartiasto, a Democratic National Party politician, said the commitment of all parties to stabilize the prices of staple foods is very important, espe-

cially before Ramadhan and Lebaran festivities. “It seems to be a must for the prices to rise right before Lebaran. Now with the agreement, that should not happen.” He urged the media to not raise the issue of sporadic price increases, which could trigger the psychological effects to the markets and would make the government’s efforts to stabilize the prices become futile. “It is the consumers, especially the poor ones who will suffer.” Enggartiasto considered four staple foods were tempered with in pricing, namely sugar, cooking

oil, meat and garlic. For sugar, he said he knew about the sugar cartel of seven companies nicknamed the ‘Seven Samurai’ who allegedly control the sugar pri ces. In April the minister invited the key players of the four staple foods, both producers and distributor to have an agreement on the fair price of each commodity. Through the tough debates, finally at 01.30 early in the mor ning they reached the agreement. The highest retail price (HET) of sugar was agreed at Rp12,500 per kilogram, while the HET of cooking oil was agreed at Rp11,000 per liter, and for meat was at Rp80,000 per kilogram. The standard prices were sealed in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Association of Indonesian Retailers (Aprindo) and distributors of sugar, cooking oil and meat. The MoU was signed on April 4, 2017 at the Trade Ministry. According to Enggartiasto, especially for sugar, about Rp10 trillion would be saved per year by setting the HET. That is because the consumers would save Rp3,000 per kilogram of their sugar purchase, while the sales of sugar reach 3.3 million ton per year. (KTDT/TPP)

The third step, Airlangga continued, the national industry has to use the digital technology such as the Big Data, Autonomous Robots, Cybersecurity, Cloud, and Augmented Reality. “The System Industry 4.0 will provide benefits for the industry, such as raising efficiency and reduce costs by about 12-15 percent,” he said. According to him, a number of national industrial sectors have entered the era of Industry 4.0, including food and beverage, cement, petroche mical, and automotive. “The automotive industry, for example, in the

production process, they already use the robotic systems and the internet of things in their infrastructure,” he said. Meantime the fourth step is innovation through the startup development by facilitating business incubation sites. This effort has been done by the Mi nistry of Industry by creating the techno logy based entrepreneurs through several technoparks built in several regions in Indonesia, such as in Bandung (Bandung Techno Park), Denpasar (TohpaTI Center), Semarang (Incubator Business Center Semarang), Makassar (Makassar

Techno Park - Home Software Indonesia, and Batam (Mobile Design Center). “The innovation development centers will be added with the Apple’s Innovation Center. So from all of these ecosystems, we want to find the strategic policy to spur the growth and competitiveness of the national industry, including preparing the incentives,” the minister said. Regarding the competition among ASEAN countries, Airlangga said that each country has a comparative and competitive advantage. “Specialization is the key,” he added. (TPP)

Head of BKPM Ensures Loan for Rapid Train Project Disbursed Soon Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Thomas Lembong, has affirmed that the China’s loan for the Jakarta-Bandung rapid train project will be disbursed in the near future. The disbursement will take place in Beijing, China. According to Thomas, the financial closing of the project worth US$5.9 billion has not occurred yet. However he made sure the process will be done soon so that fund can be disbursed immediately afterward. “The financial closing will be done soon in Beijing,” he said at the BKPM Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday (5/10). He added the rapid train funding is part of the China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) program. For the initial phase, US$1 billion of the fund will be disbursed. Thomas said that the government is finalizing all the requirements to get the fund. Earlier, SOEs Minister Rini Soemarno also stated that the government was finalizing the loan disbursement requirements for the Jakarta-Bandung rapid train project. The Jakarta-Bandung rapid train project is a partnership

with the Chinese government, where the Chinese government facilitates the loan through the China Development Bank. Rini confirmed that the value of the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train project has increased from US$5.5 billion to US$5.9 billion or around Rp78.6 trillion (with

the exchange rate at Rp13,329 per US dollar). “We are currently finalizing. Yes, there is a slight increase in the value of the project due to some changes on the ground plan. So the project is worth at US$5.9 billion now,” she said. (LPT6/TPP)

“Welcome to Way Kambas, Sumatra.” This is written on the gateway of the Sumatran Tiger at Taronga Wildlife Park (TM). On the morning of May 16, 2017, accompanied by the cold air of the Sydney bay, Consul General Yayan GH Mulyana and Taronga Wildlife Park Director Cameron Kerr together with other special invitees entered the Sumatran Tiger theme park to gain prelaunching experience. The situation in the theme

park is exactly like Way Kambas in Sumatra, including the colors of vegetations and the buildings with typical Lampung architectures. The new theme park is truly a miniature of Way Kambas Natio nal Park. “This Sumatran Tiger will be evidence to the greater presence of Indonesia in Sydney, as well as a concrete step of cooperation between the state of New South Wales (NSW) and Jakarta through the Sister Province partner-

ship,” Consul General Yayan said to Director Cemeron Kerr and the guests at present. The development of the Sumatran Tiger is also supported by the Government of NSW pol icy related to the revitalization of the Taronga Zoo Experience Progr am. Through this policy a budget of AU$114.8 million has been allocated. The new theme park has been designed in such a way which makes it immersive, interactive, visual and edu cative. (KML/TPP)

Jokowi Administration Builds Rail Station in Front of Borobudur Temple

Transportation Ministry Targets LRT Financing Scheme Done in 2 Weeks The Presidential Regulation related to the acceleration of the implementation of Light Rail Transit (LRT) has been signed by the president. To follow up the Presidential Regulation No. 49 of 2017, the government will start discussing the financing scheme. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that his ministry has targeted the financing scheme will be finished in the upcoming two weeks. He said the funding would not merely rely on the state budget, but also opens the opportunities of multilateral lending. “I think in two weeks it will be done. I’ve talked with domestic and foreign financial institutions and they seem very enthusiastic,” he added. The financing so far has come from PT Adhi Karya as the LRT contractor, reaching Rp 3.3 trillion. President Director of PT Adhi Karya, Budi Harto, said that out of the Rp 3.3 trillion, from Adhi Karya’s own pocket was Rp 1.4 trillion. “The total cost of construction to date is Rp 3.3 trillion, but from our treasury is Rp 1.4 trillion, the rest is from the banking loans,” Budi said on Sunday (5/21). He added he, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of SOEs and PT KAI met to discuss the financing scheme on Friday (5/19). However, Budi said it has not yet decided what kind of scheme will be used by the government to cover the shortage of LRT construction cost of Rp 23.3 trillion. “All parties will work on to get the funding, for example the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises will prepare the state equity participation for KAI,” Budi said. The Presidential Regulation No. 49 of 2017 Article 8B states that the funding for LRT by PT KAI consists of several components. These components include State Equity Participation or PMN, loan forwarding from government from abroad and/or domestic. Issuance of bonds by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). The government through the Ministry of Transportation will reopen the railway line connecting Yogyakarta and Magelang. The railway line will support the tourist visits to Borobudur Temple. Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, Prasetyo Boeditjahjono, said that he will create a new line instead of utilizing the old Dutch one given on both sides of it has been already too crowded with human settlements. In some locations, the iron rail and the cushion have gone. “We want to reopen the Yogyakarta-Magelang railway by using the existing line. But after we found out that the railway line has become human settlements, even some of the rail is in the houses, and it is difficult to clear the human settlements although we have coordinated with the local governments, so finally we decided to build a new one,” he said. The new train station, according to Prasetyo, would be located not far from the entrance gate of Borobudur Temple. The construction of the railway line is intended to increase the tourist

arrivals. In the Dutch colonial era, the train serving MagelangYogyakarta was always full. “If the tollgate is built as close as possible to the Borobudur, the train station is also close to the door of Borobudur, because the goal is indeed Borobudur,

not Magelang,” Prasetyo said. Some segments of the new railway line will be built side by side with the Yogyakarta-Solo toll road built by the Ministry of Public Works and People’s Housing (PUPR). By this way the land acquisition can be done at once

with the toll road. “We will not use the old railway line, but we will create a new one to connect Yogyakarta-Magelang. Hopefully the land acquisition can be done at once with the toll road,” said Prasetyo. (DTK/TPP)

The port is expected to be able to open the access to the island of Lengkuas. That was conveyed by a member of Working Visit Team of Commission V Yoseph Umarhadi after visiting the Tanjung Batu Port, Belitung, recently to learn the problems on infrastructure and transportation in the province. “This port is very important, so a development is a must by constructing adequate piers. The preparation is ready, starting with the location, the water

depth, current to the water traffics and signs,” said Yoseph. Related to the port development plan, this PDI-P politician urged the local government to prepare the land for the development of the port. Meanwhile the Commission V will support the development in terms of budget provision. “The local government should immediately prepare the land for the development. The commission V will support from the budget side. The budget can only be provided if the port master plan is ready,” he said. The politician from West Java said Bangka Belitung province

has enough prospects, so the infrastructure should be improved in order to accelerate the economic growth in the region. However it needs a synergy between the central government and the provincial government so that the development targets in Bangka Belitung can be achieved. “Belitung becomes a very promising area. It is up to the regent, governor to provide the land. I want to urge the local go vernments to set up a task force, consolidate the program and concept with the central government,” said Yoseph. Meanwhile, Belitung Regent

Sahani Saleh said he will try to provide the land plots available at 70 hectares in the area. “The land plots there have been certified and they are 70 hectares in the port area. However, they should be equipped with various documents referring to the existing regulations,” said Sahani. Under the Regulation No. 6 of 2016, Belitung is one of the areas set by the Government as a Special Economic Zone (KEK). It is expected to become a strategic area of national tourism. Therefore, the Commission V encourages the development of infrastructure in Belitung, one of which is the port. (TRBN/TPP)

In his speech, President Joko Widodo said the achievement of WTP opinion from BPK on the financial statements should not the main objective, although it was an important indicator of local government financial management. “The quality of good local government budget management, effectiveness and efficiency that continue to get public trust is the more important,” said the president. He added the preparation of financial statements should not be just a routine, since high quality government financial statements will show the financial management highly accountable. (TPP)

Chairman of the Judicial Commission Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, S.H., M.Hum,

The keynote speaker at the inauguration ceremony was Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, S.H., M.Hum, Chairman of the Judicial Commission, who delivered a speech titled “Realizing Indonesia as Rechstaat: Law as Commander”. In his speech Aidul told the history of the concept of Rechstaat, of which the one formulated by the founders of the In-

donesian state is different from the Rechstaat concept prevailing in the Dutch East Indies. Indeed the concept of Rechstaat has been in force in the Netherlands Indies or Indonesia since 1848, at the time of the Law of the Netherlands Indies set in Indonesia. Then the principle of legality began to apply, “That the actions of the government should be based on the Law,” he said. “In the 1945 Constitution, what was desired is a system of deliberative democracy. Mohamad Yamin formulated it as a rational negotiation, or conferred with common sense and not by hating each other. “Aidul added unfortunately the formula is converted into electoral democracy which relies more on majority-minority relation, not representation. “This representative deli beration is deliberation by representatives. Therefore there was the Representative Group and they were deliberating, not based on majority-minority,” he said. “In the last regional election case, we lost the representa-

seats is 50,210 seats for domestic routes and 11,114 seats for international flights. “With the a d d i t i o n a l seats, Garuda Indonesia during the peak season of Lebaran 2017 will operate as many as 348 additional flight frequencies consisting of 188 extra flights and 160 flights using bigger aircraft,” said Benny on Monday (15/5). The domestic routes expected to have increasing number of passengers are Jakarta - Yog yakarta, Jakarta - Padang, Jakarta - Solo, Jakarta - Denpasar, Surabaya - Balikpapan, Bandung - Denpasar, and Makassar - Balikpapan. Meanwhile for the international routes include Jakarta - Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta - Singapore, and Jakarta - Bangkok. “The additional seats for the peak season of Lebaran this year

increase 87.24 percent from the total extra flight capacity in the same period last year,” Benny added. The increase in flight capacity is also part of the company’s commitment to accommodate the public’s needs for access to flight services during the Leba ran holiday season in 2017. In this year’s Lebaran peak season period, Garuda Indonesia will operate a number of narrow body aircrafts and wide body aircrafts to maximize the flight capacity on each route. The types of aircraft to be operated are B737-800 (162 passengers), A330-200 (222 passengers), A330-300 (287 passengers), and A330-300 all economy class (360 passengers). For the convenience and security for the passengers during hectic Lebaran, Garuda Indonesia called on its customers to plan their trips as early as possible. The customers are also encouraged to use the “City Checkin” facility at Garuda Indonesia sales offices or “Web Check-in” and “Phone Check-in” facilities to avoid long queues at the airport check-in counters. CKB Allocates Rp25 Billion for Bonded Logistics Center presidentpostindonesia.com

PT Cipta Krida Bahari (CKB Logistics) is preparing Rp25 billion to build and operate bonded logistic centers (PLB) in five provinces.

Imam Sjafei, Chief Executive Officer of CKB Logistics, said this year the company will ope-rate its PLB in Sorong (West Papua), Surabaya (East Java), Semarang (Central Java), Karawang (West Java) and Marunda (North Jakarta). “The PLB in Sorong is for the oil and gas industry or the energ y sector, possibly in July,” Imam said in Jakarta on Thursday (5/18). According to him, the investment needed was not too big because the company has cooperated with the land owners. The

investment of Rp25 billion is needed for the racking system of PLB. He said the company has been managing a PLB for one year and its contribution to the total revenue was not much. Last PLB contributed 5% to the company’s revenue. Imam added that besides the oil and gas industry, CKB Logistics will also operate PLB for iron and steel industry, as well as for the storage of raw materials of contractors for their infrastructure development pro-jects. “This business can grow 50%

once the other PLBs start operating,” he said. So far, CKB Logistics has been providing PLB services in on-off concept, only storing materials during a project and not many customers know about it. A number of companies have complained about unsmooth flows of materials for construction works due to the lack of PLBs which are able to accommodate the storage of the materials. In fact, the government is currently intensively conducting infrastructure and transportation development projects.

Imam said CKB Logistics may operate a PLB or more for multipurpose with multitenant. “Currently it is only for the energy sector, later it will be for the iron and steel industry, then for construction goods.” Ety Puspitasari, Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian Bonded Logistics Centers (PPLBI), said that some PLBs

have used the on-off working mechanism with their customers. She reminded there should be a special strategy to manage PLB in Sorong, given the infrastructure development in eastern Indonesia is not evenly distributed. “For efficiency, it should use bulk shipments”. (INDST/TPP)

Cikarang Dry Port, an inland port managed by PT Cikarang Inland Port has been developing the concept of smart port to accelerate and simplify the distribution of goods in order to support the smooth flows of the national logistics system. The early stage of smart port development was started early May 2017, when Cikarang Dry Port implemented the auto gate system, e-DO, e-Biling and ePayment in one roof connected to the port service system, Customs, Quarantine and banks. This effort is considered a first step towards a paperless system. Benny Woenardi, Managing Director of PT Cikarang Inland Port, said that the Cikarang Dry Port will continue to deve-lop the concept of smart port to improve its services to the customers. “We continue to improve the services and provide more benefits for the customers. For us, that is the key to run the business sustainably,” he said in a written statement on Sunday (5/7). According to him, in the first

quarter of 2017, the development of smart port in Cikarang Dry Port began to take shape. This concept will further facilitate the customers in performing their activities in Cikarang Dry Port. In the process of taking out the goods later, the unloading and data verification will be done through a network that connects various systems including the Customs Office and Indonesia National Single Window. The process will become easier and faster. In addition, Cikarang Dry Port has implemented an electronic delivery order (e-DO) system with several shipping services in this inland port. This system, Benny said, can directly identify when the importer has completed the admi nistration with the shipping company without the need to submit the e-DO documents physically. Combined with the auto gate system, this will greatly simplify and speed up the process of unloading of the goods. To support the concept of this smart port, he added, in the near future Cikarang Dry

Port will also launch Android and iOS-based mobile application. This application will facilitate the customers to track their containers, check the bill, make order, as well as check the ship and train schedules. “This will make it easier for the customers to manage their logistics activities by using their smart phones, whenever and wherever they want,” Benny said. The development of the smart port concept is also to support the government’s efforts in streamlining the national logistics system and integrate the Indonesia National Single Window program. This is a continuation of the successful development of the concept of dry port that has overcome the problem of dwelling time to become only 1.63 days. Coordinating Minister for Marine Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that currently the dwelling time at major ports in Indonesia, such as Tanjung Priok Port, has dropped. “We will strive to maintain the dwelling time at 3 days,” he said. Approaching Ramadhan, Cikarang Dry Port Ready to Accommodate Increasing Logistics Activities The Cikarang Dry Port (CDP) has made various preparations to support the acceleration of national logistics traffics which usually increase significantly during Ramadhan and Lebaran holiday. This was conveyed by the Managing Director of PT Cikarang Inland Port Benny Woenardi while delivering a presentation in Media Gathering event held at Bebek Bengil restaurant, Ubud Building, Jakarta (5/17). Benny said that container freight train serving the route of CDP and Tanjung Priok Port has been in operation since April 2016. In anticipation of the surge of goods, the frequency will be increased so that the connectivity between Tanjung Priok Port and the industrial areas through the Cikarang Dry Port can be maintained without disturbing the homecoming traffics of people on the highways or toll roads. For the domestic distributions, the container freight train serving the route from CDP to Surabaya and vice versa is also already in operation. He added that the trade has been estimated to grow signi ficantly in 2017, especially the

imports and exports ahead of Ramadhan and Lebaran. Benny said, “The imports will rise considering our trade structure so far is still dominated by imports rather than exports. However, we expect the export performance will be better and no longer rely on exports of raw materials but rather manufactured products.“ loped The CDP has also deve and implemented the concept of smart port of auto gate system, e-DO, e-Billing and e-Payment in one roof connected with port service system, customs, quarantine and banks to accelerate and facilitate the distribution of goods to support the smoothness of the national logistics system. This is the first step towards the paperless system. To support the concept of the smart port, in the near future Cikarang Dry Port will also launch android-based mobile applications and IOS that will facilitate the customers to tracking the containers, checking the bills, placing an order, and checking the ship and train schedules whenever and wherever they want.

In addition, he said CDP had recorded a volume growth of 20% in the first quarter of 2017. He added that he is optimistic the CDP performance this year will reach the target, considering the number of new customers who use the inland port services keeps increasing. The number of new customers reached 500 companies until the first quarter of 2017, whereas at the beginning of the operation of CDP in 2012 there were only three (3) companies. “The exponential growth occurs especially from 2014 up to now,” he explained. Benny added that the increase in number of customers was because Cikarang Dry Port prioritizes various and sufficient facilities while being supported with multimodal distribution resulting in cost and time efficiency. At the CDP, the Bonded Logistics Center (PLB) business for cotton continues to grow and has been serving the international cotton traders who routinely bring in thousands of tons of cotton for dozens of local cotton buyers. (RGP/TPP)

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said he is optimistic that Kertajati Airport or West Java International Airport (BIJB) can be operated in 2018. The airport will become a new icon of West Java. During his visit to the location, Budi appreciated the development of BIJB which he considered very fast and went well. “The West Java residents will only need 2 hours to get to the airport (BIJB) instead of currently 10 hours (to Soekarno Hatta),” he said on Monday (5/22). Budi said that besides BIJB, West Java will have another icon, which is Patimban Port, expected to start

operation in 2019. The Patimban Port is designed to be able to accommodate heavy goods for exports. “The government simultaneously builds the two strategic facilities to facilitate exports from West Java especially in the north and west areas,” he added. “People of West Java will get the benefits from the lower cost of logistics and save the cost to go to the airport,” said the former managing director of Angkasa Pura II. Meantime West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan or commonly called Aher said the development of West Java International Airport became the pride of the people of West Java. “With the size of 1,800 hec-

tares it becomes the second largest airport after Soekarno Hatta Airport,” said Aher. According to him, the Government of West Java will soon build a toll road to the BIJB Airport. “A toll road will be built soon, starting about three kilometers after the Cipali tollgate. For people from Bandung Raya area, they can pass through the toll road of Cisendawu (Cileunyi, Sumedang, Dawuan, Kertajati) which is under construction,” Aher added. Also attending the event were Director General of Air Transportation Agus Santoso, Director of BIJB Virda Dimas Ekaputra, and Head of West Java Transportation Department Dedi Taufik. (LPT6/TPP)

EDUCATION UB Students Develop Ornamental Plant for Anti-worms Medicine cdns.klimg.com

Worm diseases are common in Indonesian, especially among children. Although it seems insignificant, this disease can lead to the loss of nutrients needed by the body, decrease the immunity, inhibit the physical and mental development, intellectual decline in children, and lower the productivity. Recognizing the problems, 4 students of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) Brawijaya University (UB) conducted a study by developing an ornamental plant to become a tea to cure the worm diseases. The tea made from Miana leaves is called ‘Miantea’ by the four students named Inmas Putri, Della P Arumsari, Savrida Nurahmi, and Ica Raditia. Miana leaves were selected for their abundance in Indonesia so the price is cheap, between Rp2,000 and Rp5,000. This leaf contains ingredients that can cure the worm diseases. “Miana is also known as iler or ingler. Its leaves have a phenolic compound with anthelmintika activity, which is able to inhi-bit the growth and development of parasitic worms in the human body. Miana leaf is also rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins that have the function to prevent degenerative di-seases such as coronary heart disease and stroke,” said Inmas, as leader of the study. The idea to create Miantea drink is praised by lecturer of FTP UB Novita Wijayanti, STP., MP. She said this drink provides a new breakthrough in the prevention and treatment of worm disease and can increase the economic value of Miana leaves. “So far we only know Miana as an ornamental plant. Traditional worm treatment usually uses boiled manggo leaves. However, it tastes bitter so children would refuse to drink it. That is why we create the Miantea,” said Savrida. The study itself was conducted for three months covering various processes ranging from teabag production to testing the content of phytochemical compounds and worm motility tests. The results showed that tea of Miana leaves contain phenol compounds high enough that can inhibit the growth of worms. “On the motility test applied to tapeworm (Taenia solium), Miana tea was proven to cause paralysis and death within 36-96 hours,” said Della P Arumsari. President University Academic Invents ‘Realized Volatility’, Instrument to Protect Investments of Customers thepresidentpost.com

An academic of the President University has successfully invented a market risk measurement method that will provide more accurate results so as to protect the customers’ investments, called “Realized Volatility”. This method was created by Dr. Josep Ginting CFA. He delivered a presentation about this method while becoming a speaker at the 2017 Research & Entrepreneurship on Stage at the campus lobby of the President University, Cikarang, Jababeka, on Wednesday (5/24). In his presentation, he explained that currently the financial industry still uses the market risk measurement tools like the standard deviation, ARCH (Auto-Regressive Conditionally Heteroscedasticity), and GARCH (Generalized Auto-Regressive Conditionally Heteroscedasticity). According to Josep, those methods are no longer effective. It was evident when the crisis of 1998, 2005, and 2008 hit Indonesia, the movement of the average investment instruments, es-

pecially the stocks and bonds, could not be read. “The ARCH is formed from the regression coefficient while the GARCH is formed by the standard deviation of error. So I researched and proposed a replacement formula. Its name is Realized Volatility by measuring the Standard Deviation over Standard Deviation,” he explained. “It turns out after I created the formula then tested it with the mathematical approach, the mean square error is small which means it’s more accurate,” he said. He added that the formulation has been copyrighted for 50 years starting from 2011. Josep said he hoped the banks and companies in the

capital market will apply the formula along with its concept in order to protect the customers’ investments either in the banks or in the capital market. Josep Ginting was graduated with the majors in finance and mathematic. In the past he held leadership ranks in several state-owned and private companies, with the positions ranging from director to president director. The last position he held was the Investment Director of PT Danareksa. Previously, Josep served as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at the President University and Senior Lecturer in the Doctoral Program of Financial Sciences at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Padjadjaran University.

Currently he is a permanent lecturer at the President University for Accounting Program and develops a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and CPA (Certified Public Accountant) program based on the international accounting certification. In addition to being active in the Shariah Economic Community as well as a judge of the national and international sharia investors, Josep also spends time for researching and lecturing the S1 and S3 students. Until now he has been helping develop the educational programs of city planning in order to accelerate the development of Jababeka’s 100 townships in cooperation with the local governments and some ministries in Indonesia. President University Student Reaches Top 15 Miss Internet Indonesia Christy Raina Septiningrum Mamesah, One of the students of Public Relations Study Programme in President University was successfully reached the top 15 finalist of Miss Internet Indonesia held by Asosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet Indonesia (APJII) (30/4). The Grand Final Night took place in Inaya Putri Hotel, Bali and was attended by approximately 200 people. Miss Internet Indonesia was held to search for an ambassador of APJII, expected to be a role model in good and safe Internet usage. This event is also aimed to make women actively involved in campaigning Internet positive. Christy is one of the six successful contestants from Jakarta to compete in the national level, and set aside approximately 60 contestants from Jakarta only. APJII selected 36 contestants from 12 provinces in Indonesia to present their skills and ability in this prestigious event. After being quarantined for a

week, the 36 finalists presented themselves in the Grand Final night, and 15 finalists were chosen to have Q&A session. Three successful participants went to the next stage before finally one of them crowned as Miss Internet Indonesia. Even though finalists are not required to make a project, but Christy initiated a project named Gerakan In-Post (Gerakan Internet Positif). This project was made to educate people to use Internet positively through online and offline campaign. The online campaign was done by uploading positive content on the Internet while the offline campaign was done through direct counseling to the society. She came to several schools such as Rumah Belajar Be Kind, SDN 1 Mekarmukti, and SMPN 1 Balikpapan campaigning about Internet positive. “This event is different with the other beauty pageant competition. In Miss Internet Indonesia, beauty is not the main indicator, but skills like pub-

lic speaking and a good manner are also strong points. This is because Miss Internet Indonesia is expected to be an agent of change in the Internet usage in Indonesia. I hope I can make

a positive impact to the society through internet, and I also hope that Indonesia could be a developed country supported by smart society in the use of internet,” Said Christy. (PU/TPP) president.ac.id

Natural Beauty of Asu Island in West Nias Have you ever heard of Asu Island? Talking about the name of the island certainly will make many people to think about “Asu” which in the Javanese language means dog.

Likewise in the local langu age of Nias, the word “Asu” is the ever translation for animal. How we are not talking about animal here, but an island located in the District of Hinako Islands, West Nias Regency, North Sumatra Province. Apparently this remote island belongs to the Hinako Islands District and is one of the outermost islands of Indonesia. The island is approximately 18 km wide with permanent residents of about 20 families. This island is the most excellent tourist destination in West Nias with beautiful natural scenery. The natural beauty of Asu Island is so remarkable even though it is far from the luxury, but the foreign tourists feel comfortable and safe to stay longer in this island. To reach this island you can use the plane from Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan to Binaka Airport in Gunung Sitoli. From Gunung Sitoli you con-

tinue the trip to Sirombu City by driving for approximately 2 hours. From Sirombu there are two options to get to the natural attractions of Asu Island. You will not be disappointed once you step your foot on this island, because the Asu Island has very beautiful beach with very clear water and soft sand grains. The scenery of blue sky meeting with the blue seawater at the horizon is spreading to wherever you see. Combined with the coconut palm trees waving in the wind and the rhythm of the waves, all makes the atmosphere feel peaceful and calm. We can do various activities ranging from sunbathing on the beach, swimming, tracking around the island, fishing, and surfing. Despite its unpopularity yet, many tourists have come to Asu Island to surf. Its underwater beauty with various types of coral reefs and various types of fish is also what the visitors seek for. The island provides simple cottages for accommodation with the price that can be bargained for. The Asu Island also has food stalls to satisfy the hungry vi sitors. There is another unique thing about Asu Island. If you walk around Asu Island by following the shoreline, then along the coastline, you will find a plant named Subang (Scaveola tacada), the local people call it raferafe and its leaves are believed to function as an anti diabetic drug. The Pahawang Kecil Island in Pesawaran, Lampung, offers a different beauty. From the island of Mahitam, the Pahawang Kecil Island can be reached by boat for about 20 minutes. We sailed to the small island which has a long coastline. Moreover, when the sea water level receded, we can see the sand arise up into the middle of the sea. Actually there are two Pahawang islands, the big Pahawang and the small Pahawang. However, from the distance the Big Pahawang looked crowded with visitors, so we finally decided to go to Little Pahawang. Although in the Little Pahawang Island turned out to be crowded too but it is okay since it was a weekend. While our boat was approaching the shore, the small island with its white sand beach and blue sea water was so tempting us to quickly set the foot on there. On the edge of the island

a number of villas were on sight with a classic design that people said belonging to a foreigner. Nobody can go there except for the guests of the villas because it is claimed as a private resort. It is okay, for we go to the Little Pahawang Island to enjoy the beauty of the beaches. Here visitors can swim or snorkel, or just sit back while enjoying the young coconut water offered by the vendors there. Many visitors seemed to enjoy the beauty of this island, while taking pictures. Crossing to the right side of the island, the visitors can see the sand arising fairly long to the middle of the sea. Yes, the sea water level was receding that time. The arising sand is usually used as a photo spot for the visitors, but when it’s too crowded we must to wait our turn in a queue. Surely you will get the best pictures ever if you are patient enough to wait. (DTK/TPP)
