Jokowi’s U.S Visits Brings $ 2.4 Billion Investment Plans in Indonesia The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) noted that the United States’ investment plans in Indonesia amount to US$2.4 billion (Rp32.7 trillion); the result of President Joko Widodo’s visit to the United State of America. According to BKPM chief Franky Sibarani,, the investment plan comprises US$1 billion in the food, beverage and tobacco sector; US$600 million in the electricity sector; US$750 million in the agribusiness sector; US$12 million in heavy equipment/machinery; and the remainder goes to the paper and printing industries. Franky said that each of those allocations are in the form of statements of investment. “The investment plan identified by BKPM is part of an Indonesia-US business deal worth US$20 billion,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (10/27/2015). The BKPM’s records show that since 2010 until the third quarter of 2015, America’s investment in Indonesia totaled at US$8 billion. The investment is spread across Indonesia’s top five sectors: mining (US$7.2 billion), trade/repair (US$258 million), food industry (US$167 million), transportation tools (US$142 million), and chemicals/pharmaceuticals (US$56 million).

The US is among Indonesia’s top 10 investors. From January to September this year, the Americans have realized US$854 million of their investments in Indonesia. Jokowi Urges Obama To Corporate on Digital Economy Visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged his United States counterpart Barack Obama to cooperate in the field of digital economy. In a joint press statement with Obama at the Oval Office of the White House in Washington D.C. on Monday (10/26/2015) local time, President Jokowi remarked that the two countries can cooperate in developing digital economy as Indonesia offers huge potential in this field. President Jokowi noted that Indonesia is currently one of the largest countries in the field of digital economy. “Digital technology is Indonesias priority, and therefore, I invite the United States to cooperate with Indonesia in the field of digital economy,” Jokowi noted. The Indonesian head of state remarked that digital economy was the third issue discussed with Obama during the bilateral meeting that lasted an hour and ten minutes. On the occasion,

Jokowi thanked President Obama for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation. “Indonesia welcomes the partnership strategy with the United States as it is a symbol of

Indonesia will continue to improve its business climate by deregulating various trade and investment regulations, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated. “As a concrete step, we have issued or revised several regulations that have so far hindered business, simplified licensing procedures, and wiped out unimportant hindrances in the licensing process,” he stated at a

meeting with fund managers from across the United States at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington D.C. on Tuesday evening or Wednesday (10/28/2015) morning Jakarta time. He said red tapes that have hindered business must indeed be eliminated, while ease in conducting business in Indonesia has now become a priority. President Jokowi said that

“We will continue improving the business climate, which has been given priority in the recently launched economic policy packages, including the simplification of procedures and revocation of uncertainties,” he remarked. President Jokowi said one of the issues he had discussed with President Barack Obama a day earlier was Indonesia’s intent to be part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. “This demonstrates Indonesia’s seriousness in making changes and modernizing its economy,” he pointed out. He said Indonesia no longer only maintained its fiscal deficit, so that it would not surpass three

However, it had now begun paying greater attention to domestic and foreign businesses operating in the private sector that had contributed around 40-50 percent of the GDP. He admitted to an increased awareness that businesses and industries in Indonesia must be integrated in the regional and global supply chain. In view of this, besides deregulations, Indonesia also needs to improve its infrastructure, including ports and warehouses, which are currently being intensively developed. Indonesia is part of a market economy as proven by its currency rate, which is determined by the market, and to this end, Indonesia must be heedful to what the market says, he noted. “And I am here to tell you that we listen to it clearly,” he affirmed. “Focus is important, and no problem is unsolvable,” he stated while emphasizing its importance.(qoi)

President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reiterated that during the first year of his leadership, along with Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK), the government prioritized food production and infrastructure development. “This year we are focusing on infrastructure and food production,” President Jokowi said in Jakarta on Monday (10/19/2015). As the government completes its first year on 20 October, President Joko Widodo said the national sectors foundations will be fully strengthened to support policies that Indonesia plans to adopt in the future. One of the fundamental policy shifts that

the government has decided on is to reduce the subsidy on fuel oil, and instead divert it towards infrastructure projects that support the food sector. This way, the funds would be utilized more productively. “Nearly 65-70 percent of the fuel subsidy is being diverted. These funds are being diverted to finance infrastructure projects related to inter-island, inter-city and inter-provincial connectivity with the aim to facilitate food distribution,” he said. Another government policy related to strengthening the national food development sector is to build reservoirs and

irrigation facilities nationwide. “In order to ensure food development, construction of 49 reservoirs is being undertaken. This year we are building 13 dams plus irrigation facilities, and boosting food self-sufficiency program,” the President noted. He hoped that the infrastructure projects, especially those related to the food sector, would lower the prices of primary goods as the cost of transportation would be cheaper. “We hope that the infrastructure development will bring down logistical transportation costs and thus lower the basic goods prices,” the President said.(avn)

Minister Darmin:Trade Surplus More Ideal If It Supported With Export Performance export financing assistance by LPEI which is included in the economic policy packages issued recently to make small industries to revive again to boost national economy, he explained.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said trade surplus so far would be more ideal if it was supported by more adequate export performance. “So far exports have dropped but imports have dropped even lower creating a surplus. This is a good news but is not enough. It will be enough if surplus happens because exports rise,” he said on Thursday(10/15/2015). Darmin said export performance was not yet optimal because exports so far have been based more on natural resources while prices of the commodities in the

international markets have sharply declined. National exports have weakened because demand in the export destination countries is down making the countrys economic growth in the first semester this year reached only 4.7 percent, he said. In view of that the government is now seeking to diversify exports in terms of products and export destinations so that Indonesia will nolonger be dependent on crude palm oil, rubber or coal exports which are vulnerable to global conditions, he said. One of the initiatives is deregulating licensing procedures and

“In our deregulation this time we do not only simplify licensing procedures but also encouraging investment in the industrial sector as well as helping in the export financing especially for micro, small and medium industries as they what we have,” he said. According to National Statistics Agency Indonesia enjoyed a surplus of $1.02 billion in September 2015 and trade from January to September has always been in surplus for the country.

Minister Tjahjo Kumolo : Government Prioritizes Border Area Development The government will give priority to accelerated the development of border areas in the next three years, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said. “There are 187 sub-districts or points in border areas categorized as priority locations this year,” said Tjahjo. “They are located near the Indonesian borders with Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Malaysia,” he added at a get-together with officials from throughout Southeast Sulawesi province on Friday (10/09/2015). These border areas have served as entry points for smuggling drugs into Indonesia along small paths at the borders, he noted. “Nearly 49 tiny paths along border areas are currently used as entry points for drugs coming into Indonesia. Even foregn

Tourism Minister Optimistic Achieve Targets 20 Million Tourists in 2019

“Indeed trade was in surplus since January to September although export-import performance tended to drop early in the year,” the agency`s chief, Suryamin, said.

Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya optimistic will be able to reach the target given by the President Joko Widodo to bring 20 million tourists to visit Indonesia in 2019. He was optimist the target could be achieved because of the policy of Free Visiting Visa (BVK), which has been applied to a number of regional destinations in Indonesia ,

From January to September 2015 Indonesia enjoyed a surplus of US$7.13 billion up from a deficit of US$1.67 billion in the same period last year.(awp)

''Jokowi Policy, the one that makes us optimistic to pursue the target of 20 million foreign tourists in 2019. The signs were already being felt. Bintan for decades as an exclusive tourist

area, when opened BVK, the increasing is great, even beating the achievements of Batam in September 2015, '' said Minister Arief in Jakarta, Sunday (18/10). Port of Bandar Bintan Telani reveal in September 2015 have achieved up to 48.68 percent of foreign tourists. It managed to beat the combination of Batam Center, 25.57 percent, 10.87 percent Sekupang, and Nongsa 7.6 percent. More proud again, he said, the number of foreign tourists was apparently derived from China's 30.9 percent, 20.9

percent Korean, Japanese 13,37 Percent, UK 10 percent and 6.16 percent from the United States. '' The way to read it is more and more expatriates and tourists in Singapore to Batam-Bintan stopping for a short distance and the price is much cheaper. Great Batam fastest reaction to a certain via free policy, '' he said. Other optimism to achieve the target it is the policy of open access Clearance and Approval for Indonesian Territory (CAIT) for yachts and cabotage for cruise (cruise ships). For yachter, he believes, no longer

need to bother as previously treated as imports of luxury goods, the import tax numbers are not small. So even cabotage for cruise ships. Not just only Indonesian ships, but foreign ships can pick up and drop the passangers. ''Foreign ships are also allowed too. By doing so, foreign tour operators began to sell packages of marine tourism in Indonesia. Of course, this effect is not immediately present, but the future provide a great opportunity for the presence of foreign tourists to cruise, '' he explained.(awp)

The Company’s EBITDA for the period January-September 2015 increased 11% to become Rp 935 billion, compared with Rp 841 billion over the same period in 2014.(tim)
