MIDDLEFIELD — With over 350,000 sunflowers expected to bloom at Lyman Orchards this season, here are 5 things to know about the 12th annual sunflower maze with John Lyman, executive vice president of Lyman Orchards.

Looking for some good family fun? Why not hop on over to the Durham green on Thursdays for Farmers Market Storytime, where Alex Klaus mesmerizes children with her animated readings from 5 to 5:30 p.m.
“Usually the ages are from 3 to 6. Sometimes older, sometimes babies,” said Klaus, the children’s librarian at the Durham Public Library. “This is for everyone, and I bring two fun books for every age bracket. I love that I get to set the activities and to share my favorite things with them.”

pants waving their hands, tapping their feet, tugging their ears, shrugging their shoulders, touching their noses, blinking their eyes and blowing kisses. “If You’re Happy and You Know It” had the youngsters on their feet, stomping their feet, giving a roar, beating their chests and jumping up high. At a recent Storytime, Klaus pulled out transparent mul-
ti-colored scarves from her “bag of tricks” and had the children play peek-a-boo with them. Then, she encouraged the youngsters to bunch them up and pretend there were kernels of corn inside. They shook them until they made “popcorn,” then the scarves were tossed into the air. Later, out came the bubbles. Klaus blew them into the air while the children chased them.
Sarah Turner, of Middletown, the mother of 3-yearold Emma and 4-month-old Abigail, was impressed with Farmers Market Storytime, and the market in general. “I love that it’s part of the farmers market because it allows us to get our vegetables, and it allows the kids to listen to stories,” Turner said. “I love the learning experience all around; buying local, buying fresh, eating See Market, A9
