Krew and his family endured 4 separate stays, accumulating to a total of 4 months, at Children's Hospital, living each day shrouded in uncertainty and worry as to what the future would bring for their child. Several months later, on July 25th, 2018, Krew and his family were finally able to leave the hospital - Krew was officially in remission. Today, Krew and his family live every day to the fullest and have made making memories their highest priority. Krew, now a full-blown toddler, loves to explore the world around him with the energy and enthusiasm innate to a 2year-old. Although their journey has been rough, Krew and his family are forever grateful for where they are today!

The event was really fun and engaging and although it started off slow we all had fun in the end. I met a lot of new people that event and was fun organizing it. Glad we also got to make over $100 from that fundraiser!!

I thought the note of hope event was really nice honestly. W notes felt very personal because I really wanted to be genuin hope, and everyone deserved that. I really liked being able to someone a sense of hope or make them feel like they aren’t thing that I “disliked” (more that it was more difficult was th multiple notes got hard because I I didn’t want to repeat w written in past notes, but there is only so much you can say t you don’t know while still remaining genuine and sensitive would definitely do it again and I think it’s a super great organ connects people in such a personal way.

The Send a Note of Hope event immediately stood out to me as a good idea when I heard about it. The fact that the March of Dimes program provided an easy way to virtually encourage or comfort those in need, specifically mothers with babies in the NICU or Healthcare workers on the front lines, was really heartwarming for me. I sent 10 notes in total, where I tried to be as comforting as I could. I hope that the program continues and grows bigger, because it seems like these people really need it right now. I would probably do this again or find a similar way to help out in the future.

Participating in the smithsonian event made me realize just how important it is for the current generation to get involved to preserve the letters and personal memories of the past. In the same way that I was able to learn so much simply by reading and translating the short written works of past scientists and authors, I hope that in the future, all the generations of students proceeding me will have the opportunity to access and learn through this incredibly diverse database. Although I found it difficult at first to decipher the handwriting and cursive of several writers, it was an extremely rewarding experience overall.

Bonnie Chen I really liked how easy the website was to navigate. It was simple and helpful in getting to what I wanted to do. The notes section was also a nice addition as well, since past volunteers could communicate what they had issues with and what needed to be fixed. However, it was rather difficult at times to read the script, or translate something in a completely different language, but this is more of a personal issue than one of the event itself. Overall, the experience was an educational experience as I got to take part in solving the unknowns of history.

Although the concept of transcribing historical documents didn’t seem that interesting to me, once i actually started transcribing, i found it quite entertaining—fun even. I even ended up transcribing up to 100 documents. Would totally do it again and recommends it to anyone who needs hours or someone with a lot of free time time Jasmine Si
