HEYYYY! It’s so sad that the summer is almost over now, school is almost starting :( Anyways, since school is starting it means key club is going to start our meetings very soon! The new freshmen and incoming sophomores are coming to our school so that also means club fair is starting meaning we will get many new members!

Hopefully, many guys decide to keep staying in key club to do more volunteering events. With all the events that have happened over the summer, hopefully you all enjoyed your summer and volunteered a lot before the school year starts! Disability Pride March July 14, 2019

The Disability Pride March was a very unique experience for me. The people there although they all had their own situations they were all willing to come out and stand up for what they believed in. I had a lot of fun at this event I was able to see different people come out about their opinions and choose not to be stopped by anything. In all, I can’t wait to go to this event again next year! ~ Esther Dai

Following the Pride March, this event promotes the idea of free belief and giving everyone a choice of who and what they want to be. Additionally, this event allows the disabled to take part in promoting an idea they may support as well.

Jimmy Fu

July 12-

The Jimmy Fund was a fundraiser that raised donations in movie theaters cancer research. Throughout this experience, it was inspiring to see th short videos playing in theaters that would discuss the goals this organization had and the people they’ve helped along the way. Despite being a new experience, there were many people who donated to the ca and we were able to collect hundreds of dollars. Being able to end a lon shift with the sound and weight of a heavy can was rewarding in knowin what all the money goes towards in the end and overall, I would love to volunteer here again :) ~ Rachel Ngo

The purpose of the Jimmy Fund event was raise awareness and donation for cancer research. At this event, volunteers stayed at a movie theater and learned about cancer. They also helped to promote this fundraiser and helped to collect donations.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH Members: Christine, Farhin and Rachel July 27,2019

the Community outreach event we had a lot of fun acting with different schools in our division. We got to paint all the bridges in the park, which I personally ed very much. The organizers of the event were super and they kept checking in with us to make sure we eren’t too tired. They even provided us with pizza, hments, and a cute volunteer shirt afterwards. Overall, vent was fun and I would definitely come back again. ~ Christine

DRAGON BOAT August 03-04, 2019

Working at the docks to handle the boats was a tiring but really gratifying experience. I got to know a lot of great people while loading them onto the boats and getting to see their excitement and joy about the race as well as their gratitude for reeling them in and out was very satisfying. With your friends and the amazing atmosphere of the festival all around you, time passes in an instant. It's a great way to help out the community and feel rewarded for doing so at the same time. I'll definitely be volunteering at the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival again!

When I got to the park, I saw hundreds of people gathered together This was my first time attending an event like this. And most importantly, it a celebration for the entertainment of hundreds of people, possibly even were volunteering at the water side, so that meant we had to help all the were safe. There was a feeling of accomplishment afterwards, helping so this race. As volunteers, we were entertained as well for what happened king part in this race and possibly even join a team. Astoria Park Clean Up August 10, 2019

The purpose of this event was to help clean our environment and make it a better place. At this event volunteers went to the Astoria Park and they helped clean up. They helped pick up garbage clean up leaves and recycle items.

Veteran's Picnic August 10, 2019

Members: Christine, Farhin, Nikki, Rachel and Sharon The St. Albans Veterans Picnic was an amazing opportunity to show thanks to past soldiers. The experience gave us a chance to give back to those who have served with honor and selflessly protected us. We served a variety of food such as hamburgers and hot dogs.

In addition, we helped set up tables and assist veterans that were on a wheelchair. The weather was also perfect for an outdoor event like this. Many veterans were also kind enough to talk to us about their past experiences, and it was a thrill to listen to. I also got to meet lots of other members and had an amazing time. ~ Rachel Lin

The Chinatown beautification event was an interesting experience because prior to this, I never knew how much garbage and litter were actually on the streets. there is a tremendous amount of trash and the people cleaning the streets are really dedicated to making sure the streets are garbagefree. I appreciate these hardworking people even more from this experience. ~ Sheron Xu The purpose of this event was to allow more people to learn about Chinese culture. At this event volunteers went to chinatown and helped clean up an area. The event also had many activities that allowed people to further undertand the culture.

The Battery Dance Festival is New York City's longest-running people. This year was the 38th year of the Battery Dance Festiv from 7-9pm. Summer streets was such a fun, diverse event that I was happy to be part of. Every volunteer, adult or teenager, seemed to be enjoying themselves and were glad to help out all the people attending the eve There were numerous activities to take part in, such as rollerblading, t station that my friend and I volunteered at. We helped sort buckets o skates, knee pads, elbow pads, helmets, etc, and helped people get of their equipment on in order to skate. It was a very fun and interesti experience, and it was really enjoyable to see people learning and try something new. It was a lot of work, but I am super glad that I was ab to contribute to such a great event. ~ Natalie Villacres

Flushing Night Out August 24, 2019

For the Flushing Night Out event, we were required to attend a mandatory orienta where they explained how it would go down on the day of and the objective of th event. As well as what to do in the case of emergencies and introduced us to the s in charge of certain sections. This gave me a feeling that it was going to be organi and they knew what they were doing. The event itself was pretty fun and it was sim to the Queens Night Market. We set up the tents and I was in charge of the money were given walkie talkies to communicate with each other and that was pretty co Additionally, since the neighborhood is mainly populated with Mandarin speakin people, I had to communicate and translate in Mandarin which is something I usu don’t do often. Hands down the best part of this was definitely getting free food fr the vendors who were super generous and being able to connect with other key clubbers but as well as the staff who organized this amazing event. I hope that th event continues to occur next year because it was successful in its goal to promote culture of Flushing and if given the opportunity, I would most definitely volunteer ag ~Sharon Li

La Jornada Food Pantry August 30, 2019

Volunteers: Elsa

At the food pantry we helped prepare bags of fruits and vegetables that would be served the following day. We were able to fill up various bags with several different foods from carrots to peaches to corn. The event took place inside the St. George’s church in Flushing. Many different people of different backgrounds came to help at the event. While packaging the food, we were able to talk to other volunteers and learn more about the food pantry itself. It was a fun event to volunteer at especially because we got to meet key club members from different schools. ~ Elsa Oreen
