Cheques are payable to the Town of Grimsby and must be dated the day of registration. NSF Cheques are subject to a $25 administrative fee and require immediate correction for the space to be held.

This daycamp is intended for our younger campers. It offers a space suited to children 4-6 years old. Each day campers will participate in a variety of activities including outdoor games, craft time and special theme activities.

DAY CAMP MIKINAWK (MIK-IN-AWK)

An outdoor based daycamp program that includes outdoor games, crafts and adventures. Camp also includes swimming 3 times per week at the Grimsby Lions Pool and camp favourites include scavenger hunts, boondoggle and much more! Each week will include special theme activities and campers will be grouped by age with one of our qualified and trained camp leaders who provide a fantastic week of fun for the campers.

SPORTS CAMP For children who love sports and being active - this is the place to be. Each week of sports camp will include a mix of favourite sports along with some unique twists. Sports played week to week depends upon weather, and also camper interest, but will include games such as baseball, floor hockey, dodgeball, soccer, keriball and more!

Campers go swimming 3 times per week at the Grimsby Lions Pool.

The program is based out of Smith Public School offering indoor play space, outdoor green space, and fields for other sports and games. Sports camp emphasizes active play, good sportsmanship, teamwork and creating opportunities for new experiences. See you there! *Drop off and pick-up daily is at Smith Public School.

SPECIALTY CAMPS Tennis Lessons (8 weeks to choose from) Join Niagara Academy of Tennis for a week of tennis lessons this summer. This program will teach you the game of tennis starting with the basics, and it will also teach you skills and techniques to improve your game. Participants will learn sport skills, play tennis matches and meet new friends. All skill levels are welcome.

Lessons are held at the Grimsby Tennis Club, located between Sobeys and Central School, behind the Shoppers Drug Mart. Program is rain or shine. Indoor activities take place in the club house on rain days.

Soccer Camp Join the Town of Grimsby for an action-packed week of recreational soccer fun! Our summer camp offers a perfect blend of skill building drills and friendly competition and other game based activities for kids ages 7-12. Swim 3 times this week at the Grimsby Lions Pool, make new friends and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Don't miss out on this opportunity to kickstart your summer!

Firefighter Camp The Summer camp staff are teaming up with the Niagara West Fire & Emergency Services team to host a Firefighter Camp once again. Join us for a week full of activities that are all about firefighting, rescue and fire prevention and get a glimpse at what it might be like to be a firefighter. The Camp will spend the morning at the Grimsby Regional Training Centre, located on Mountain Road. During the afternoon campers will go to the Grimsby Lions Pool for a swim 3 times per week and then to Smith Public School for the remainder of the afternoon. This Program is a unique experience that is fun, educational and active.

Aqua Camp For those that love to swim and love the water - this week will have lots of pool time and aquatic fun.

Campers will do a variety of swimming activities including swimming challenges, fun pool games, water safety and more. Campers will spend approximately 3 hours in the water each day, weather permitting. Campers will also spend time in the area parks and doing other dryland activities. This program is not swimming lessons, but it does contain some safe water messages and activities. This camp combines camp staff and swimming staff together, and all pool time is lifeguarded.

JUNIOR SPECIALTY CAMPS Junior Specialty Camps offer the same great day camp experience, but with a variety of camp options that follow their interests. All camps are supervised and lead by trained Town of Grimsby Staff. Camp now offers extended care.

with the Grimsby Museum and the Grimsby Public Art Gallery The Grimsby Recreation Department has teamed up again with the GPAG and the Grimsby Museum for full day camps that balance culture and activity for all day fun. Supervisors and leaders are trained by Town of Grimsby staff. These on location programs will engage children's senses in open-ended play and support the development of cognitive, social-emotional and multi-sensory skills.

Campers will walk from the morning site to the pool 3 times per week. A camp supervisor will be with the group all day to ensure consistency and familiarity.

July 28 - Aug. 1 Creative Crafters with GPAG Handmade heaven! Make your own products like buttons, magnets, zines, posters, and more in this camp where your ideas lead the way. You'll learn how to make multiples by experimenting with different printmaking techniques along with drawing, painting and much more!

July 7 - 11 Art Attack with GPAG Attack with this description: Are you ready to take on art in all its forms? Dive into a week of new artistic challenges every day, from sculpture and drawing to printmaking and painting. Perfect for the pickiest of campers, this week will have a little something for everyone.

Aug. 5 - 8 Celebrate Good Times Festivals with Grimsby Museum Join us at the Museum to learn about some of the great festivals that happen around the world.

Learn about the colourful Carnival, the music of Mardi Gras, the sugar masks of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), The Irish Culture of the St Patrick’s Festival, and the Traditions of Octoberfest. It is guaranteed to be a party!

July 21 - 25 Museum Detective The Great Grimsby Mystery with Grimsby Museum Follow and examine the clues to solve the great Grimsby Mystery.

This programme will send you on a treasure hunt through the Grimsby Museum and you will help to unravel the mysteries hidden within.

Aug. 18 - 22 Pull Out The Paint with GPAG Paint can be poured, splattered, sponged and so much more!

Campers will get to discover the versatility of paint as a medium and explore a variety of techniques and styles. Step be step, campers will take part in a variety of exciting traditional and unorthodox projects.

MAD SCIENCE CAMPS The Mad Science Team will be offering 6 weeks of camp in Grimsby this summer. Try one out for a week of creative and unique activities that are both educational and fun. These camps are held in partnership with the Mad Science company at that Town of Grimsby. Program instruction is led by the Mad Science Team.

A week of sleuthing, investigation and discovery await campers. Secret code wheels, Morse code and hidden messages will be decoded. We will hunt down animal tracks and follow scent trails during a day of nature discoveries. The wonders of gravity, balance and the science behind the elusive sweet spot will be investigated. Everyone will be challenged not to break an egg during our crazy egg toss. A renewed appreciation for the earth and the role science can play in preserving our planet will emerge. The marvels of astronomy will be revealed when we make a telescope.

The week will fly by as we travel through time looking at the earliest flying machines right up to modern day rocket launches. Become a Junior Aviator and discover the principals of flight and aerodynamics. Zip up your space suit for a planetary tour while we investigate the wonders of our very own Milky Way. Join your fellow astronauts as we send an awesome Mad Science rocket to the moon… well at least into the sky! As Mad Science Technicians, you will build sundials, telescopes, parachutes and an incredible wind tunnel simulator.

It will be a blast!

Children will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and the most important of all – their mind. With a little bit of ingenuity children will create catapults and forts, construct working light sticks to take home and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs. While Thomas Edison said "invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration", this is 100% FUN!

Yes we are Rocket Scientists! And you can be too! Blast to the top of the class with an in depth look at all things ROCKET! This action packed week focuses on the physics, parts of a rocket and rocket launches. You will experience every aspect of rocket launching as you join a different crew each day. Prepare for launch, send your rockets into the sky and track their altitudes as we launch 10 different rockets each week! You are certain to have a blast exploring, building and launching many varieties of rockets.

Campers will use forensic science to solve a crime. A visit to Cell City will reveal the inner workings of DNA while a trip down the Organ Trail will provide a Body Portrait. Explore the wonders of gravity, balance and the science behind the illusive sweet spot. Build the strongest helmet for our friend Eggbert in our safe egg challenge. We will discover how to get a rainbow in a test tube and build a Potato Power Plant during a day of radical chemical reactions.

Join us for a week full of creations, chemistry and cameras! Work together with your fellow engineers to build the best bridge in our shake, rattle and roll challenge. Turn your daily newspaper into a four foot high Geodesic Dome that you can sit in with your friends. Explore the world of birds and beasts with bird house building and our super bug investigation. Mix, mash and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers during a day in the chemistry lab. Discover the wonders of photography as you study cameras, light and colours.

Parents are welcome at the end of each class to see the animated story, cartoon, game or project their child has created.

Join us as we transform coding into a playful and educational experience, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun and supportive environment. While no experience in Python is required, we recommend this class for students who already have some familiarity with coding (in Scratch or similar platforms).

Creative Bug Presents: A Walk in the Garden! We are excited to share with you 8 weeks of art ending with an art show on May 28th 5:30-6:30pm!

We cannot wait to share our garden of art with you including croaking frogs, puddle splashes, flowers and all of the things we love about spring! We will enjoy a variety of mediums including acrylic paint, watercolours, clay and more!

Make a rainbow connection with the Creative Bug team this summer! We will enjoy all of our favourite rainbow arts including painting, sculpting and creating in all the colours! Exploring the Arts: Let’s Paint!

Dates: Wednesdays April 16 - May 28 (7 weeks) Location: Carnegie Building Ages: 7 - 14 years Time: 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm Cost: $130 Does your artist LOVE to paint? We do! Not only are we going to spend 6 weeks painting our hearts out but we are also going to work on technique including brush strokes, colour mixing and planning a custom painting.

This program will end with an art show on May 28th 5:30-6:30pm so artists can share their work with friends and family!

YOUTH PROGRAMS Leader in training The Leaders in Training program is a great opportunity for youth to gain volunteer experience that encourages their leadership development, provides opportunities for teamwork and provides a great experience relevant to the working world. Maximum enrollment: 2 weeks per participant.

YOUTH SAFETY COURSES Virtual children’s safety classes are taught over one day through Zoom Meeting technology. Classes are led by a live instructor and each program includes interactive digital media to help learn key messages. Participants will need a device with camera & microphone (laptop, tablet, smart phone) as well as high-speed internet connection. In-person one day classes are also available – see schedule below.

This program helps to empower children when they are dealing with untrustworthy adults, teens and peers with an easy to remember plan to get away and tell a trusted adult.

We focus on People Safety (including tricky people, getting help from a safer adult and bullying), Online Safety, Fire Safety, Travel Safety and basic first aid – including practice sessions on calling 911. All participants will receive a copy of the My Safe Life – Personal Safety for Kids manual along with their certificate by regular mail after the course has been completed.

This program helps families decide if their child is ready for the next steps of independence and arms them with strategies for staying safe when walking home from school and when home alone. Topics include Street Smarts, People Safety, At Home Safety, Online Safety, Fire Safety and First Aid with Accident Prevention. All participants will receive a copy of the Home Alone Safety for Kids manual along with their certificate by regular mail after the course has been completed.

In-Person Home Along course will be held at Southward Park in the Community Room, 84 Mud Street, Grimsby.

This program helps participants learn how to care for other children. THE GRIMSBY SENIORS CLUB The Grimsby Seniors Club has been in operation for over 50 years, and has approximately 450 members. The club is run out of the Livingston Activity Centre, The club offers a wide variety of activities, events and social opportunities for community members who are 55 years +. Annual membership is required for participation in club activities.

This program has everything you need to help improve your cardio and strength. This program is now expanding to include not just those recovering from a cardiac event, but also those who may have significant and identified risk factors and my benefit from: PREVENTATIVE EXERCISE INTERVENTION Before participating, cardiac patients are required to fill out our intake, waiver and a doctor’s referral form.

Your doctor may have this form, or the referral can be picked up at the Livingston Activity Centre Recreation Services office.

The program runs: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 - 10:20am and the Spring start date is Tuesday, April 15th.

GRIMSBY LIONS COMMUNITY POOL Supervised Ages & Ratios ALL patrons age 5 and under MUST be directly supervised by a parent or guardian 12 years of age or older, with a ratio of 2 swimmers for each parent or guardian.

Outdoor Pool Heated Accessible

All patrons of ages 6 - 9 who do not pass the facility swim test MUST be directly supervised by a parent or guardian 12 years of age or older, with a ratio of 4 swimmers for each parent or guardian.

Note: Direct supervision means remaining in the water within arm's reach of the child and able to render immediate assistance.

Swim Test Criteria & Wristbands Each patron is permitted only ONE swim test per visit. Passing the swim test is at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty.

All patrons under the age of 10 will be given an orange wristband and are required to pass a facility swim test before being permitted in the deep area.

Patrons under the age of 10 who do not pass the facility swim test will be given a yellow bracelet and are not permitted in the deep area.

Patrons under the age of 10 who successfully pass the facility swim test will be given a green bracelet and are permitted to swim in the deep area.

Serious Medical Conditions Those with serious medical conditions should be accompanied by an individual knowledgeable of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision.

Special Needs Any caregiver volunteering their time to support a person with special needs is admitted for free (1 caregiver per person).

Preschool 1 (30 minutes at $41): This is the first level where swimmers are enjoying the water without a parent or guardian. These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We'll help them jump into chest deep water. They'll float and glide on their front and back and learn to get their faces wet and blow bubbles underwater.

Preschool 2 (30 minutes at $41): These preschoolers learn to jump into chest-deep water by themselves, and get in and get out wearing a lifejacket.

They'll submerge and exhale underwater. Wearing a lifejacket they'll glide on their front and back.

Preschool 3 (30 minutes at $41): These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a lifejacket. They'll recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They'll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back unassisted.

Preschool 4 (30 minutes at $41): Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves. They'll do sideways entries and open their eyes underwater.

They'll master a short swim on their front wearing a lifejacket and gliding and kicking on their side.

Preschool 5 (30 minutes at $41): These youngsters get more adventuresome with a forward roll entry wearing a lifejacket and treading water for 10 sec. They'll work on front and back crawl swims for 5 m, interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick.

SWIM LESSONS Swimmer (5+ years) Class Swimmer 1 (30 minutes at $41): These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a lifejacket. They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They'll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back.

Swimmer 2 (30 minutes at $41): These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They'll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10 m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x 5 m).

SWIM LESSONS Adult Swimmer (16+) Class Adult 1 (60 mins at $85.00): You'll work towards a 10-15 m swim on your front and back. You'll do jump entries from the side and recover an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with 4 x 9-12 m interval training

July 7 - 11 6:30pm

Adult 2 (60 mins at $85.00): Kick it up a notch working on two interval training workouts of 4 x 25 m kicking and front or back crawl.

You'll be able to perform dive entries and demonstrate breaststroke arms and breathing over 10-15 m. You'll be supporting yourself at the surface for 1-2 minutes, and showing off your handstands in shallow water.

Not offered this season.

Adult 3 (60 mins at $85.00): No sweat (or at least none anyone can see). You'll learn eggbeater, stride entries and compact jumps.

You'll be doing a 300 m workout and sprinting 25-50 m. You'll master your front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Whew!

CANADIAN SWIM PATROL The Canadian Swim Patrol program is the on-ramp to lifeguarding. Ability is the only prerequisite.

The Swim Patrol provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim.

Swim Patrol's three levels - Rookie, Ranger, and Star - continue to develop participants' swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society's Bronze medal awards.

Cost: $97 Weekdays only for 1 hour, 2 week sessions Rookie Patrol: Swimmers continue stroke development with 50 m swims of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving Sport skills include a 25 m obstacle swim and 15 m object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350 m workouts and 100 m timed swims.

Ranger Patrol: Swimmers develop better strokes over 75 m swims of each stroke. They tackle Lifesaving Sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation.

Star Patrol: Swimmers are challenged with 600 m workouts, 300 m timed swims and a 25 m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100 m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defence methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in shallow water.

LEADERSHIP COURSES Bronze Star & Basic First Aid Bronze Star develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport. Basic First Aid includes how to contact emergency medical services, rescue breathing, how to treat choking and minor injuries.

Prerequisite: Canadian Swim Patrol experience is recommended.

Bronze Cross Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Lifesaving Society Emergency or Standard First Aid Certification (need not be current) or EFA or SFA from an agency approved by the Lifesaving Society.

GRIMSBY MARLINS SWIM TEAM Be a part of a fantastic team that emphasizes swimming abilities, teamwork, and new friendships. Swimmers participate in a variety of activities, relays and other challenges that develop fitness and swimming skills. We emphasis individual improvement and a friendly competitive experience. Swimmers will have the opportunity to compete in swim meets against other local teams on Saturday mornings, with a final regional swim meet to take place in August (exact date TBD).

PRIVATE POOL RENTALS Make the Grimsby Lions Pool your destination for a child’s birthday party, corporate gathering, family event or a group of friends. Rental includes the use of some pool toys and equipment, use of the changerooms and full pool supervision by qualified lifeguards. The community room is also available at the pool for cake, presents or lunch afterwards. Or, use Coronation Park for a picnic and also enjoy the playground and splashpad onsite. Pool rentals are available on select weekend dates from 12:00pm-1:00pm. All regular admission standards apply.
