Erie Parks & Recreation | Fall 2025 Program Guide

Connecting you to FUN!

Town of Erie | Parks & Recreation

Our mission is to build community through the delivery of exceptional parks, open spaces, trails, facilities, programs and services.

As I sit here in mid-June writing this letter for our fall program guide, I can’t help but reflect on how quickly summer comes and goes. While many are out enjoying the sunshine, our team has been hard at work finalizing our Connecting You to Fun Playbook - the strategic vision that will guide how we continue to deliver exceptional parks, recreation, open space, and trails services to the Erie community.

A major focus of the Playbook is long-term planning. We’re taking a close look at our Capital Improvement Project (CIP) plan and facility needs to ensure we’re not just keeping up with growth - we’re staying ahead of it.

A letter from our Director of Parks & Recreation, Luke Bolinger: Luke Bolinger

That means making smart, fiscally responsible decisions while listening closely to what our residents need and want. We’re actively pursuing partnerships, grants, and creative funding solutions to stretch every dollar further.

You’re probably already seeing the results of this work – whether it’s refreshed playgrounds, new trail connections, or other enhancements popping up in neighborhoods across Erie. We’re excited about where we’re headed and proud to be building a future that keeps Erie active, connected, and thriving.

She is always positive and works so hard to help me achieve my goals. She has a wealth of knowledge and really knows her stuff. I know almost all the trainers at Erie Rec. Youth Sports Our Story

Erie Parks & Recreation strives to provide a positive, safe, and fun environment to allow children of all skill levels the opportunity to play.

We hope to create an environment that balances teamwork, commitment, hard work, sportsmanship and competition. We provide 2-3 contacts per week with enthusiastic parent volunteer coaches, and hope that at the conclusion of the season your child learned about the game, improved skills, and wants to play again!

-Recreational Sports Philosophy

Coaching with Erie Rec Sports has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as a parent and community member. I’ve been coaching my son and other young kids in the 7U age group for basketball and a few other sports over the past few years, and I genuinely look forward to every season. I love watching the kids grownot just as athletes, but as teammates and individuals. Erie has a strong community feel, and coaching gives me the chance to be part of that, helping build confidence, sportsmanship, and a love for the game in each player.

“U” after the age number stands for “and under” (e.g., 9U stands for ages 9 and under).

Interested in Volunteer Coaching?

All teams are coached by parent volunteers. Please contact volunteer@erieco.gov if you are interested in coaching and we will respond within 5 business days.

Officials

In general (varies depending on sport), leagues for children ages 8 and under are self-officiated by coaches and parent volunteers. Games for ages 9+ are officiated with a game official. Please remember to treat all officials with respect.

It is against Erie Parks & Recreation Youth Sports Leagues policy for players to concurrently participate in/on any same sport competitive league/team during any part of our respective recreational sports season. By registering and participating in any of our youth sports leagues, you acknowledge that you and the participant are abiding by this policy. Canary Loop Public Art Project

Gregory Fields, Erie, CO

Estimated Installation: August 2025

As people walk the “Canary Loop” that wraps around downtown Erie, they are greeted every third of a mile by a steel canary-shaped sculpture inset on both the front and back by colorful ceramic artwork. These bright, playful pieces beckon the walker to come closer and explore themes of abstract design and the natural life of Colorado.

At five feet tall, the six sculptures will feel accessible to both adults and children; the ceramic panels can be reached and explored by both eyes and hands.

The canary shapes can remind people of Erie’s past as a mining town, yet the pieces will feel fresh and enlivening in the here and now. The sculptures over time will serve as identifiers of place along the trail, adding unique elements to the downtown area and encouraging walkers to complete the entire loop.

Public art has the power to make a community truly unique and bring visitors into the town to see the art. The Canary Loop can become both a source of community pride for residents and attract people to visit Erie, get out of their cars, and walk around downtown.
