2026 Summer Camps Guide

Page 1

Message from the General Manager of Parks, Recreation and Culture

We’re excited to launch the 2026 Summer Camp Guide and help you plan another memorable summer in East Gwillimbury (EG). This year’s guide introduces a fresh, resident-friendly format that showcases our camps in an engaging way, making it easier than ever to plan your summer. This season is especially meaningful as we celebrate our first summer at the Health and Active Living Plaza (HALP). While construction of the facility is now complete, work continues outdoors, and we can’t wait to open the surrounding park features this summer and welcome our campers to enjoy all the amenities, both inside with pool time and outside with our new park space.

Designed with placemaking at its heart, our new HALP park will be a vibrant hub for fun, connection, and outdoor adventure. Visitors will be able to explore a variety of thoughtfully designed spaces, including an events space for future celebrations, reading and teaching gardens for learning and relaxation, an outdoor cooking area with a pizza oven and BBQs, and an accessible playground for all ages and abilities. The space will also feature many active amenities such as a splash pad, skate park, pump track, multi-use sports courts, pickleball and beach volleyball courts.

Together, these new outdoor amenities will enhance how residents of all ages gather, play, and learn - creating seamless connections between recreation, programming, and community life. As the park comes to life around the HALP, it will support expanded opportunities for camps, events, and seasonal activities that make summer in EG truly special. We can’t wait to welcome everyone, including our summer campers, to experience everything this park has to offer.

Our campers will also be able to enjoy a wide variety of camps across EG in addition to camps at the HALP. Camp themes include nature sprouts, superhero, adventure, art attack, outdoor multisport, little chefs, wild wonders, and so much more. We’re also excited to share a refreshed lineup of summer events with you, including a new music and market experience that will bring the community together to enjoy live entertainment, local vendors, and summer fun. More details will be shared in the spring. Please stay tuned to our website and social media channels for updates.

We hope you enjoy EG’s 2026 Summer Camp Guide, register early for your favourite camps, and join us for an unforgettable summer. We can’t wait to see you at camp, at our community events, and at the HALP.

Enjoy your summer,

2

INCLUSION SUPPORT

All About Me

The Town of East Gwillimbury is dedicated to ensuring all campers have a successful camp experience. There may be times when a child requires more support than our camper-to-staff ratios are able to provide. In these cases, we strongly recommend consulting with us about our support options.

How do I know if additional support is required?

Additional support is required if:

• Extra support is required at school or the child has a safety plan with their educational institution

• A disability exists that could affect the safety of the participant or other participants

• Extra support is required at home for basic care

• Participant is associated with support agency and/or program

• There are behaviours to be assisted with (ie. biting, scratching, pinching, slapping, etc.)

All About Me Package

Families are required to complete an All About Me Package and provide a Safety Plan, if the participant has one, to help camp staff with any program adaptations. When considering a recreation experience, please consider the individuals needs, and that the recreation inclusive setting may not be suitable for all persons. The health and safety of participants and staff is paramount, which could result in participants being denied access to the camp.

Are staff available to provide support?

Yes, in most cases arrangements for one-on-one support can be made. The Town of East Gwillimbury attempts to accommodate requests for additional support for children with special needs. However, due to the number of requests or level of care provided, support cannot be guaranteed. Accommodations can be made and are subject to health, safety and cost considerations. If we are able to provide your family with support it may only be for up to two weeks at this time.

Can I provide my own inclusion

support?

Yes, you may provide your own support (family member, friend, trained support worker or social worker). We require a Vulnerable Sector Screening and a signed release of liability form for these individuals. The support person is required to participate in all activities as a positive role model for the participants and adhere to the Town of East Gwillimbury Policies and Procedures.

How to request one-on-one Inclusion Support

Inclusion one-on-one support is NOT a camp, it is a support service.

1. Register for a Summer Camp program that meets the needs, hobbies, age and interests of the participant.

2. Please also remember to register for Extended Care if needed.

3. Complete the All About Me Package online at eastgwillimbury.ca/ SummerCamp.

4. Once you complete the online package, it will be submitted to a Recreation Coordinator who may contact you for additional information.

Questions?

Contact our Recreation Coordinator at cmcdougall@eastgwillimbury.ca

The deadline to request one-on-one support is May 1, 2026. Once the deadline has passed, we will do our best to accommodate support requests but it is not guaranteed.

Camps located at the HALP for ages 7+ will have the option to swim throughout the week. Campers will be reminded to bring necessary swim items when required.

LEADERSHIP CAMPS

Leader in Training (LIT)

AGES 12-15 YEARS

$260

Our LIT program is the first step in becoming a summer camp counsellor. This two-week program allows LIT’s to participant in all their favourite camp activities, while taking on a bigger role to learn how to effectively run the activity. In LIT we introduce concepts such as positive community with youth and proper counsellor behaviour. Week two gives participants the opportunity to be in a camp, supporting EG Camp staff with games and activities, and gain experience working with campers. LIT’s will be evaluated and given feedback.

Counsellor in Training (CIT)

AGES 13-16 YEARS

$310

CIT aims to continue expanding and growing the knowledge and experience learned in LIT and take training to the next level. The one-week in class program will consist of learning EG specific camp policies and procedures, conflict resolution training, goal setting, resume building, and High Five certification. Following the one-week of in class training, CIT’s will be placed into camp for a minimum of one week for in-camp experience. CIT’s will be responsible for leading activities, games, and crafts. They will assist the staff with camper supervision. CIT’s will be evaluated and given feedback.
