A Place for You and Your Team

Teams making their way through Edmonton and Calgary might want to schedule a stopover in Banff and check out The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre. In addition to quality ice and hockey amenities, Banff ’s great views, hotels and restaurants provide a setting that players and staff can both relax in and focus on their game. Facility staff has been around for a while and are well versed in hosting NHL teams.

A world-class facility for your team to connect, improve and energize on your way to the top The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre was built in 2010 to reflect the natural grandeur of the surrounding Canadian Rocky Mountains. Indeed, The Fenlands celebrates the nearby fen, forests and mountains with its post and beam construction, and windows that flood the facility with natural light and frame inspiring views of Banff ’s famous peaks. Designed for hockey, skating and curling, the centre features two sheets of ice (one NHL size), spacious team rooms, dedicated training amenities, meeting rooms, social gathering spaces, and food and beverage facilities. The Fenlands is a favourite venue for Canadian and American hockey and other ice sport teams to rent for practices, training camps, exhibition games and tournaments. Banff: an international destination Unsurpassed mountain scenery, pristine lakes and rivers, abundant wildlife and fresh air—Banff National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a magnet for nature lovers. Founded in 1886, Canada’s first national park now attracts over three million visitors annually. Banff offers incredible opportunities for recreation. Outdoor pursuits such as hiking, skiing, cycling, fishing, golfing, river rafting and natural hot spring soaks are complemented by indoor activities such as ice sports at The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre and theatre, dance and concerts at The Banff Centre. While many visit Banff simply to relax and rejuvenate, athletes find the town and its recreation centre ideal places to focus and train for their sport. The town of Banff is the heart of Banff National Park and home to The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre. The town is located off the Trans-Canada Highway, 90 minutes from Calgary International Airport. Users of The Fenlands are close to an extensive array of hotels, shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. COURTESY FAIRMONT BANFF SPRINGS

The new Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre is a far cry from the Banff rink I started playing minor hockey in way back when. The new facility is amazing with its wood and glass finishes, great ice and, of course, the mountain views surrounding the rinks – it still feels like home for me. I encourage you to consider Banff as a training destination – it has lots to offer.

Ryan Smyth, Edmonton Oilers

There are certain things that NHL trainers look for when their teams practice on the road including large dressing rooms, therapy rooms, coach and meeting rooms, and of course, great ice, all of which the new Fenlands has. This would allow an NHL, pro, or any junior league team with a large number of players to enjoy a training camp or break in the long grueling season as teams travel to Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver. I know as a player, those times were a great change of pace and a team bonding opportunity— there is no better place to enjoy that experience than Banff National Park.

“

As a former long-time trainer to the Edmonton Oilers, I am pleased to be able to recommend The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre as a potential training and practice venue for all high-performance teams. This new facility boasts large team rooms with player stalls, physio/ trainer space, coaching and meeting space, with staff experienced in making great ice as well as moving NHL clubs in and out of the building. As a born and bred Banffite, I can tell you that the community is most welcoming, the views are fantastic, and the hotels and restaurants are pretty amazing as well.
