Police said a woman came into the restaurant on Dec. 1 around 6:30 p.m. asking for help. A man then came into the restaurant after her and started pushing her. meeting, endorsed bipartisan legislation pending in the New Jersey Senate (S-1200) that limits emergency declarations by the Governor, and called for the checks and balances established in the Constitution to be restored in Trenton. Board Director John E. Lanza said, “The state Constitution establishes a system of checks and balances that has been disregarded by the Governor’s declarations going on two years now.” S-1200 corrects that situation. “S-1200 does not take away the Governor’s ability to declare an emergency when there are floods, hurricanes, blizzards or even pandemics. What it does is set an appropriate time limit on that authority...” Lanza said.

Class 2 – Cannabis Manufacturer

Class 4 – Cannabis Distributor

The current cannabis grow facility being operated by Verano Holdings on Route 22 will be the only location in Readington approved to operate under Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 and Class 4. There is no ability or permission within any ordinance to open a retail establishment to allow for medical or recreational use cannabis sales in Readington Township. At the Township Committee meeting, the Committee unanimously approved ordinances to allow for one operator (Verano Holdings) within the Township and the location is limited to the Verano property only, for all four of the Classes. The Committee approved an ordinance to tax the adult, recreational use cannabis generated at Verano. The proposed tax ordinance under the State statute is 1% on transfer of product to another facility (retail or wholesale) and 2% at point-ofsale for that product. Verano Holdings can now proceed with the licensing application process with the State of New Jersey.

Illegal Apartments / Rentals A Message from Township Fire Official, Sean Smith

There has been a surge of illegal apartments and rentals being found across New Jersey including Readington Township. Fire inspections are required for all residential properties in New Jersey every time the home or unit is sold, leased, or otherwise goes under a change of occupancy. This includes rentals that may be annual, seasonal, monthly, or daily. These inspections are also mandatory for bed and breakfasts such as VRBO rentals. If you or someone you know stays at a place like this, be sure to check if they obtained a fire inspection. By law, they are required to furnish an inspection certificate prior to anyone moving in. The certificate should coincide with the date of closure or rental. The office of Fire Prevention can be contacted to ensure that they comply.

2022 Memorial Day Parade It’s back! The Readington Township Memorial Day Parade will return this year after a two-year COVID19 hiatus. So polish your marching shoes and get ready to join in on Monday, May 30th, 2022. The Parade route will be the same—from King’s Plaza Shopping Center to the Municipal Building. All clubs, scout organizations, sports teams, music and dance groups, antique cars, Emergency Services etc. are welcome to join in paying tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country. We are not holding Community Day at Pickell Park right after the parade, but are working to organize some other kind of activity at the park following the parade. If your group is interested, or if you have questions, the parade email is ReadingtonParade@comcast.net. We’re looking forward to a great parade and lots of spectators!! Knights Deliver Coats for Starfish Families

The Mother Seton Council #15540 (www.kofc15540.org) of the Knights of Columbus donated two dozen new winter coats to the Readington Township Starfish program recently. The knights have supported the winter coat drive for more than five years. The council was chartered in 2012 and meets regularly at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Three Bridges. Since its founding, the council has raised and donated more than $70,000 to various charitable organizations. The Council holds fundraising events throughout the year. These include a fall golf outing, yearly Comedy Night and quarterly pancake breakfasts. Additionally, the council coordinates the numerous blood drives held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. - Submitted by Ronald Foster, trustee, Mother Seton Council #15540
