[I love my... nail polish! by lauren madras | photo by charles barnes
Nail polish has been making a bold red carpet statement recently. From bright yellow to almost-black gray, everyone’s been talking about who’s wearing what and when. Every color, finish and style says a little something about the person wearing it. Here are our favorites! Go to our Facebook page and under ‘I Love My nail polish,’ post your own special product and why it works for you!
<< Catherine Klene managing editor Patina Pearl by Borghese Nail Lacquer; Midnight Cami by Essie Despite its frosty look, this iridescent Borghese color goes on incredibly light. My nails shine and look polished, not overdone. Best part: The sheer color means chips don’t show—great for me, since I can’t keep a manicure to save my life! For my toes, it’s no secret that blue is my favorite color. This Essie shade is a fun alternative to summer corals and pinks, and it looks super cute peeking out from my favorite wedges.
<< Wendy Steinbecker Style Coordinator Graphite by Chanel One word to describe this color: sexy. The shimmer is very subtle, appropriate for day and evening, and it lasts about a week. The name itself suggests silver, but I found that this chameleon polish changes and can also read gold at times.
<< Tony Di martino Senior Editor Like Linen by Essie I type all day. I need a neutral polish that doesn’t show chips. This is it.
<< Dorothy Weiner | Editor in Chief Samoan Sand by O.P.I.; seche vite Because I use my fingers so much at work and home (I’m always on kitchen patrol), I go through four steps to ensure I get the hardest, most durable home manicure. Thanks to tips from nail technician Mariel Edwards at Dominic-Michael Salon, I start with CND Stickey, a basecoat that really adheres to the polish. The color I apply over that is Samoan Sand by O.P.I., a shiny, very neutral shade that adds gloss and a little bit of beige tone. My preferred topcoat is Seche Vite ( French for ‘quick dry’), and after waiting at least 15 minutes for nails to dry, the piece de resistance is Daby Nail Hardener, a lacquer that really keeps those nails from chipping.
<< Lauren Madras Lifestyle Editor Glitzerland by O.P.I. Just one coat on my toes is a perfect amount of color and sheen, and it works with any shoes or setting. A second coat is bright and shiny, like gold leaf. I absolutely hate chipped polish, so I almost never paint my fingernails. When I do, I know I’ll take it off the next day, so I go bold, bright or silly.

Style Editor Chinchilly by Essie I love a hip color, and this is a great gray that looks chic with black, navy and pretty much any color clothing I wear!
