The Who’sWho
If I’ve learned one key thing in recent months, it’s that the most important person in the room when producing a magazine is YOU, dear reader. Without you, none of the rest means much.

Thanks to you, the July 15 debut of our first issue of the *new* Attention SL was an unqualified triumph. Your enthusiastic praise and compliments made our efforts feel worthwhile and encouraged us to forge ahead.
Can we talk about the Relaunch Party? Uff. What a brilliant explosion of fun and glamor. Even though lag crippled yours truly for much of it, relegating us to a bar stool in the back quarter, knocking back overpriced cocktails, the glory of it all was a headshaking wonder.
That said, some specific acknowledgements are in order.
Event Planner deluxe, Kacee Popstar, deserves the lion’s share of the credit for the party’s success. She oversaw every detail with panache and finesse. We are also deeply in awe of Pippa Creative’s stunning venue design. She took our humble requests and turned them into a glittering dream. Three A-List DJs kept the room in a nonstop party groove - Fang PalazzøGunner, Lichi Moonwall and Goddess Lola VonTease Locke. Special thanks to House of Legends proprietor, Wyatt Frost, for his lastminute procurement of professional staff (he personally stood in as Door Greeter alongside his partner Criss Reyes).
But enough about past glories!
In this issue you’ll find brilliant contributions from our incredible home team (see pg. 9!). Our fabulous new, returning and guest contributors include Jamie Dakota, Lord Wasabi, Manu Coulibaly, Moon Poulter Able, Nino Heartsdale, and Sunset Theas.
I can never find the words to properly express my gratitude to the ‘kids in the backroom’, who keep me focused and relatively sane – Kere Delcon (Assistant Editor), Eli Hunter (Social Media Director), Nonge Koolhaas (Promotions Director) and Bellisima Benelli (Marketing Manager).
Finally, as we were going to press, we heard about the passing of a legend, beloved by so many – Marcus Lefevre-Enimo. Again, we thank Wyatt Frost, who stepped up and wrote a heartfelt tribute to this icon. The Base Of Bad Ideas generously shared his recent portrait of Marcus with longtime partner, Hikaru.
Wishing you a loving, nurturing Autumn! g

Arcadia Golightly shares her love of tea, music, magic, and the Tarot with those who visit her Spellbound Tea and Magicks
BY MOON POULTER ABLEBY VERANDI

Attentionistas / Opening Act
Arcadia Golightly is creating a buzz with her insightful, thought-provoking Tarot card readings at Spellbound Tea and Magicks. Moon Poulter Abel, our intrepid reporter, decided to investigate.
AS I MADE my way down the wooded path, the Northern Lights danced across the sky in fiery waves of orange and yellow. Comfortably tucked amongst the trees, a small structure appeared. The seasons had changed, autumn had arrived, and so had I.

Welcome to Spellbound Tea and Magicks. A warm glow of mystery and magic shone from the windows, teasing, and arousing my desire for more.
Arcadia Golightly, the heart of Spellbound, greeted me as I entered. She offered a warm cup of tea and a place to settle. I
gladly accepted. Delight and curiosities filled the dark, moody space as my eyes wandered, taking it all in.
Arcadia discovered Tarot card reading a few years ago during the first COVID shutdown. By chance, she found herself at an exhibition focusing on alchemy as a society. The arcana cards’ imagery and symbolism inspired her to dig deeper, and she fell in love with the Tarot. She’d always embraced, “that kind of romantic view of nature”, and a recent move from San Francisco to Colorado had helped her realize how out of touch she was with the nature around her.
Her original intent with Spellbound was to share her love of nature and magic with visitors, but what she
created in this cozy space is so much more.
What Arcadia had not anticipated was that through her card readings, the Tarot “became a bridge” connecting her with individuals on the other side of the screen.
Arcadia prepared my cards and invited me to breathe in deep, to focus on myself and my place in this world. The aroma of sage and rose petals filled the room. Pulling three cards from her deck, representing my recent past, my present, and my future, she placed them facedown between us.
Lightly tapping on the first card, my recent past, she said that the Magician reversed revealed “a sense of stagnation or difficulty in seeing progress. You feel ready to begin a new direction but are unsure of
the direction to take.”
She continued, “To put the Magician back upright, take that first step off into the unknown, have confidence in your direction. The universe often has a way of showing you the path once you’re on it. The past is a teacher, not a prison. Learn from it and use that knowledge to empower yourself as you move forward on your journey.”
As the candlelight flickered, Arcadia revealed the message of the second card, my present - the Two of Pentacles. “The graceful juggler,” she mused. “It seems you’ve been juggling many things, and perhaps this is why the energy of the Magician is in reverse. The Two of Pentacles reminds us that busy work isn’t necessarily productive.
You are graceful in this act, but I get the distinct feeling this Lady wishes to help you upright the Magician.”
I listened carefully to the message and how it would relate to my present. Arcadia continued, “There is power in the Pentacles. Balance. Take it and you will have a powerful ally in the days ahead.”
She placed her finger on the third card, the Five of Cups reversed.
“Your future,” she said, and then paused. “This card reminds us that the road to success is not always easy. The Five of Cups cannot lift his head; he fears he is a failure and has fallen short of his goals. He has forgotten to forgive and love himself.”
Reflecting on all three cards, she shared their message.
“I believe these three are all working towards one goal: there is something you have set yourself to, something worthy of you and truly a new direction.”
She was generous with her sincerity. Having learned from her interactions with the occasional visitor who has found their way to Spellbound, her original vision for Spellbound has transformed.
“I want it to be a place where we stop and say to the person next to us, ‘You are cherished, and I am so very glad you’re here’.” g

Rock Your Rack
By Bellisima BenelliNuking
Beating
Amazing Second LifeTM shopping events are

ubiquitous. So, it seems, are the instances of breast cancer that have touched the lives of so many people we know. A mathematician might look at these disparate facts and call them ‘constants’ in an equation, looking for a variable or, ultimately, a result.
11 years ago, Jamee Sandalwood, CEO of charitable organization
Models Giving Back, did the math and came up with a unique solution.
Rock Your Rack (of which she is also CEO) has since become a premier event, one of the most important in Second LifeTM. Showcasing a bounty of shopping, music, and art offerings, Rock Your Rack supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation as an official fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. Having raised thousands of dollars for the cause, it
is an ongoing powerhouse inspiration.
Ms. Sandalwood is clear that her own experience with breast cancer motivated her decision to create Rock Your Rack. American insurance companies do not cover mammograms for women until they reach the age of 40. Jamee was only 38 when doctors diagnosed her with a triple negative, stage 2 tumor. Thanks to early detection and the right medical team, she survived.
the Beast
breast cancer is the objective of this passion-provoking event
The National Breast Cancer Foundation, as Jamee states, “is all about early detection and treatment. This organization is about funding mammograms for all in need whether they have insurance or not, to make sure they get the early detection that saves lives, like it did for me.”
Fortified with this experience, information and her Fashion Industry connections, Sandalwood founded Rock Your Rack.
Why do I personally consider it one of the most important events of the year? Well, simply put, it hits closer to home for me than anything else in SLTM. You see, I lost my father to breast cancer eight years ago. That was when I decided to do something about fighting this beast we call “Cancer”. This event is near and dear to me, as are others that support cancer research and cures.
Because breast cancer is so intrinsically associated with women, most do not realize it can also affect men. While male breast cancer accounts for less than one percent of all breast cancer diagnoses (approximately 1 in 833 men will develop breast cancer in their lifetime), it is at best life-changing for those impacted, and all too often, proves fatal.
Fundraising for the National Breast Cancer Foundation is a crucial priority. More money increases their ability to further and expand their essential efforts.
That’s where Rock Your Rack excels, and this year it isn’t holding anything back. The 2023 edition features 82 (eighty-two!) designers offering exclusive new creations as well as limited-edition items, with proceeds going to the cause. 34 artists are sharing their work at exhibitions and/ or galleries. Additionally, a L$10 Hanger Hunt will be active throughout the entire event with items from participating stores.
The 2023 edition features 82 (eightytwo!)designers offering exclusive new creations as well as limited-editionitems, with proceeds going to the cause.
If that’s not enough, there’s entertainment! Multiple stages will feature fashion shows, DJs, live musicians, and dance groups going pretty much nonstop.
Rock Your Rack is truly a fantastic way to have fun, enjoy music and art and, of course, shop till you drop - all while supporting an important cause. g

The SONG of
Colleen’s an optimist with texture skills.
Lo’s a model whiz who struggles with life/work balance but isn’t afraid of a challenge and loves “freshness.”

Together, they’re helping to beautify the grid
By Divos TitaniumLOFT & ARIA

I always love the subtle shift in seasons. It’s like an anticipated visitor that you know is going to show up on your front doorstep, and you cannot wait for their arrival. After months of long, lazy (and hot!) summer days, the crisp autumn air invigorates and awes with its color and majestic splendor.
As a longtime resident of Second LifeTM, I always keep my eyes peeled to Flickr to see when the first fall photographs start appearing in everyone’s feed, heralding the unofficial arrival of the season. Our beloved virtual world allows us the luxury of starting the seasonal transition as soon as we are so inclined. I realize I am not alone in my autumnal love as I see so many creative works carefully crafted to capture this special time of year. It’s a time where many start thinking of their virtual homes and how they would like to decorate for the
season, each home a canvas where residents can create their own special place that reflects their personality and brings them a place of enjoyment.
One store that is almost synonymous with home decor in Second LifeTM is Loft & Aria. A staple on the grid in all things home-andgarden, its creators have been with Second LifeTM since almost the beginning. What is interesting is that while most residents flock to this store as soon as they start building their own personal home, not everyone remembers that it used to be separate stores. Colleen Desmoulins started The Loft in 2006, and Yelo Uriza started Aria not long after, in 2007.
Another incredible fact is that both women joined Second LifeTM with no prior experience in creating for virtual platforms. Back then, no one had imagined mesh, so these designers made a go of it learning prims and sculpts. These self-taught, dedicated ladies meticulously learned, honed their craft, and created items that soon became sought-after by residents.
I most love a particular aspect of the story Colleen and Yelo (a.k.a. Lo) shared with me - to bring highquality items to the grid, they have both continued to learn. With all the updates Second LifeTM has brought, including mesh, these two
hard-working individuals have managed to stay at the top of the home-and-garden game for the past 16+ years.
When they met and got to know each other as fellow store owners,
Colleen and Lo had a huge respect for each other’s work-ethic, process, and ultimate product. In 2016 the two decided to merge their stores, to become Loft & Aria. While this required an intense amount of trust, the combination has proven to be a success. Both have refined their work process and now collaborate on ideas and creations. While you would think they spend a significant amount of time together, they have their communication down to such a science that they can work individually at different times. They only really see each other when it is time to put the item out at the store or at an event. Their admiration for each other is evident; these two are not just business partners, but great friends.
I love the fact that one of Second LifeTM’s most successful stores is owned by two talented females. It’s not often you see a collaborative effort by two such talented people, especially one that has been so successful for so long.
Walking through Loft & Aria allows you to truly see
COLLEEN DESMOULINS

creativity and artistry in virtual form. Colleen and Lo have created amazing collections for every space one can think of in a resident’s virtual home. This iconic brand has left no stone unturned in helping residents create their own personal masterpiece: from bedrooms to kitchens to baths - it is all there!
Still, it is interesting how humble they are with each other and complimentary of the other’s skills. I’m excited to share some of our conversation with Attention SL readers - this is a collaboration that helps bring us all home!
THE VIEW

DIVOS: Colleen and Lo, thank you so much for allowing us to feature Loft & Aria in this issue. Your collaboration is special and has impacted so many in Second LifeTM.
One thing I love about home-and-garden/furniture creators is that they get to create something that appeals to the masses; they do not necessarily have to cater to one gender, interest, or age. Did this factor into your decision on what to create in this virtual world? What made you decide to get into creating something for the home in Second LifeTM versus other items such as clothing?
COLLEEN: Thank you and Attention SL for thinking of us, Divos! I have always had a passion for home decor and interior designing, so it was a natural fit for me to pursue this field in Second LifeTM. I dabbled in clothing design a long time ago, back when it was all shading and drawing with no complex modeling or prim attachments, but I quickly realized it wasn’t
my cup of tea. It just didn’t motivate me in the same way that furniture does.
YELO: Thanks, Divos! I came to Second LifeTM from the Sims, and the parts of that game that always spoke most to me were housebuilding and decorating. So, when my then-boyfriend (now husband) told me about Second LifeTM, that’s what I set out to do here too.

DIVOS: Both of you have been creators for quite some time. Have you seen a lot of changes with home-andgarden/furniture over the years? How do you stay current on the latest design options or offerings for customers?
COLLEEN: It’s incredible how many options are available now. In the past, designers would say things like, “I
understand your style is very Baroque, but trust me, this Barcelona chair will work. Oh, you mentioned you were leaning towards American Craftsman. Well, can I interest you in this exquisite Shabby Chic set?”. Nowadays, there are so many different design styles to choose from.
YELO: I joined Second LifeTM when the only building
option was prims, so yeah, I got both the beginning of sculpties and then mesh. We keep current by staying updated about changes and always trying to improve on the well-established base we’ve built over the years.
DIVOS: Your store, Loft & Aria, is one of the most celebrated on the grid. Those of us who have been around
for a while remember when your stores were separate businesses. What made you two decide to work together and develop one of the most successful collaborations in Second LifeTM?

YELO: We were already friends for a long time at that point and it was a natural progression for us.
COLLEEN: Yes, we were friends before we collaborated on a
few projects, and we quickly realized that we made a great team.
Managing a big store on your own in Second LifeTM can be challenging, so we started working together more often until we decided just to make it official.
DIVOS: From a collaboration perspective, do you each have certain roles? When it

comes to deciding what to create and how - do you split the tasks, or do you each have certain assignments?
COLLEEN: It became apparent quite early on in our first few collaborative efforts that we each have our unique strengths and weaknesses. Yelo is great at modeling, while I prefer working with textures and developing the overall
theme.
However, when there is a time crunch or some unexpected situation, we are flexible and can switch roles to pick up the slack.
YELO: Yes, each of us has a role for the most part. I model and set the animations and Colleen textures and take the pictures for our ads. We both do the scripting of the products depending on
who is free at the time. We can also do each other’s part if needed. We pick what to do together and divide the work as per our preestablished roles.
DIVOS: Both of you are so incredibly talented. How did you develop your abilities, and what made you decide to bring those skills to Second LifeTM?
COLLEEN: Hmm, let’s see. I’m self-taught: late nights with YouTube, some classes at school, Yelo, other creators like my friend Nardya, in-world classes (Xenius Revere - remember Xeniversity?)

YELO: I am mostly selftaught and there are parts that I learned from Colleen as well as other Second LifeTM creators.
DIVOS: When you think about all the items you have created over the years, which stands out as something special or one that you are most proud of? What about one that you look back on and wish you either never made or done completely differently?
YELO: I don’t think I can pick one. I’m proud of everything we do!
COLLEEN: I have a bunch of things in my inventory that I really wish we’d never made. They are buried deep,
never to see the light of day, and I hope nobody ever finds them! My worst nightmare is somebody stumbling across
one of these monstrosities and reminding me about it. That keeps me up at night, I tell you! As far as pride goes, I am proud of our progression. I just never get used to the fact that people like what we create and now even after all this time they are still supportive. I am super grateful for that.
DIVOS: I’m always

interested
...you have to wear so many hats. You are basically the chief-cook-and-bottle-washer.
in the thought process that goes behind creating a store name. What made you decide on the store names of Loft & Aria?
COLLEEN: Loft & Aria: super creative, I know! You would think we would step one toe outside the box (lol). Anyway, my store started as the Loft because it’s my favorite spot in my real-life home. It’s where my family

and I would gather to play games or watch television together. We used to have a massive 20-foot bean bag in there, and my kids would jump and flip on it all the time and just have a blast.
YELO: Colleen’s store before we merged was called The Loft and mine was called Aria, so we just combined them together et voila. I called my store Aria because
it means ‘air’ in Italian, and I felt like it was the spirit I wanted my items to give to people - a sort of lightness and freshness.
DIVOS: What is the most challenging part about being store owners in Second LifeTM?
YELO: I think for me, it is the fact that this is a pretty demanding job and working
from home, doing this fulltime, it was hard to set limits. Like, saying that, “This is it, work is done for the day.” It can and does lead to burnout, and it does take a physical toil.
COLLEEN: Being a Second LifeTM store owner can be overwhelming because you have to wear so many hats. You are basically the chief-cook-and-bottle-
washer. Although you can hire someone to assist you, their role is limited due to the permission system, etc. As Yelo pointed out it’s still a challenging task to set boundaries and avoid burnout.
DIVOS: For those that are thinking of working with a partner in Second LifeTM, what advice would you give
them to be successful when it comes to working with someone else?
COLLEEN: In Second LifeTM, it’s important to have respect and trust for others, as well as to be responsible. It’s easy to forget that there are real people behind the avatars. Yelo and I have a good working relationship, because we understand that we do not mean to be

hurtful with any criticism we give each other. We are in this together and always strive to help each other do better.
YELO: Mutual respect and understanding is always a good foundation.
DIVOS: What keeps you excited and motivated to continue working on your store and new releases?
YELO: I very much enjoy my work so that keeps me going.
COLLEEN: Agreed. I really
enjoy what we do here. I cannot break out of the habit of envisioning how I could recreate something

Not only is it something I enjoy, but it’s also something that lets me use my creativity
I see in real life or in a magazine.
DIVOS: What do you do for fun in Second LifeTM besides creating items for your store? Any favorite pastimes?

COLLEEN: Wandering residential sims has me in a chokehold. I don’t have a lot of time to do it, but any spare time I can find in Second LifeTM, it’s what I
do. I love collecting games too.
YELO: I rarely have time to do other things in SL nowadays, unfortunately.
DIVOS: While we know and love your store, most of us do not get a chance to interact with you. Can you share one thing about yourself that maybe most of us do not know?
COLLEEN: Yeah, I friggin’ hate beets!
YELO: I was born in a country that no longer exists.
DIVOS: How has opening a virtual store impacted your real life? Has anything changed for you because of Loft & Aria?
YELO: I’ll take this one. I started creating while I was still a university student
and since then I have been able to turn this into my full-time job. Not only is it something I enjoy, but it’s also something that lets me use my creativity and saves me from moving furniture around my apartment all the time.
DIVOS: Do you find a certain time of year and the homeand-garden items that go
with it most appealing? Do you have a favorite time of year to create for?
YELO: I think I prefer to create items that you can use year-round, not just for that once-a-year occasion.
COLLEEN: I love Fall and its color palette, but, like Yelo said, we prefer creating items to use year-round.
I love Christmas but I do not enjoy creating Holiday-
themed items.
DIVOS: Thank you both so much for your time!
Your store is like an old friend we have invited into our homes, so it is so nice to get a chance to know the creators behind some of our favorite pieces. We really appreciate you making our virtual world a more beautiful place! g

Beauty QUEEN of Hearts
Ask anyone in Second LifeTM if they know who Callie Cline is, the chances are a good many will say, “Yes”. Some will even go as far to say that she is a legend. Why, you ask? According to Callie herself, it is because she has been in Second Life for so long! But it could also be that she is one of Second LifeTM’s OG movers and shakers.
Owner of the highly successful KittyCatS (breedables), Callie has dipped her elegantly pedicured toes in lots of different fields. She was the creator of Callie Cline Originals - a very successful clothing brand. As a matter of fact, a Virtual Renaissance Exhibition at the University of Florence, Italy, featured one of her dresses. Callie has been a designer, content creator, logos and branding consultant, a spokes-avatar for Pontiac in SL, and the list goes on. As if that were not enough, Callie was the first-ever avatar to feature in the RL magazine Maxim’s Top 100 hottest women. Who does that, seriously?!! Wait, wait, we are not done. Not many will be aware of this, but Callie is a seriously talented artist and singersongwriter in real life (oops I may have outed her!). Not only that, but she is also an animal lover (which makes her the bestest human in my books - just saying), an empathetic, intuitive person, a loyal friend, and someone who is always questing for the truth and looking to develop herself into a better human being. She’s a visionary, full of innovative concepts. She is a perfectionist. She is a marketing genius.
It is hard to describe this multi-faceted, brilliant person in a few words, but if one was looking for a role model, they wouldn’t have to look much further than Callie. She is an immensely creative, talented, and gifted person. It is not hard to admire her, and I am honored to call her one of my BFFs!

Oh! and she is a Princess... enough said!

SPLENDOR in the SUNSET
His heartfelt goal is to create images that we feel, rather than simply see.
Does
a desire to share help explain the ineffable artistry
of photographer Sunset Theas?
When reading the testimonials on his Flickr stream, it’s easy to see the passion his work stimulates in other artists. They share comments like, “powerful emotions and caring”, “creative images of romance”, “expressivity and deepness”, “captivates all the senses”, “makes time, even for just a moment, stand still”.
While he’s refined his style through the years, its core elements were evident in the first image he posted on Flickr (November 2015) – a depiction of a lone figure rendered in subdued tones posing the existential question, “Where to go…?”.
Theas loves the creative process and while he insists it’s occasionally “just for fun”, he unequivocally feels it as a “need”. His urge to communicate, to share his essence through his images, is constant.
What inspires this artist, whose work evokes such ardent responses from his followers?
Music has stirred him since childhood. For him, it is life-giving, essential as the air he breathes.
There is, however, a factor even more crucial than music. Another artist once said that Sun’s images have “the quality of a powerfully moving dream state”.
That observation was insightful, as Theas himself states that daydreams are his “first inspiration”.
The creativity of other visual artists also motivates him deeply. He describes Flickr as, “a great building with thousands of windows” through which each person shares something of themselves. If no one sees a photograph, does it truly exist? While creating art is its own unique journey, Sun believes that the ultimate destination is in the observation of others.
For Theas, photography is both a game and a necessity, through which he can share with us what he is unable to say with words.
Attention SL thanks him for sharing these exquisite images with our readers –a selection of his work over the past three years. g

INTO THE MYSTIC
“The end of the day was approaching when I was suddenly startled by a loud hum, followed by a crash, as if I were being brutally thrown, losing track of time and space. Everything went cold and dark.”

...Double Toil & Trouble
The trials of the Pendle witches in 1612 are among the most famous in English history, and some of the best recorded of the 17th century. The twelve accused lived in the area surrounding Pendle Hill in Lancashire and were charged with the murders of ten people, using witchcraft.

Pendle Hill, at the end of the 16th century, was regarded by authorities as a wild and lawless region: an area “fabled for its theft, violence and sexual laxity, where the church was honoured without much understanding of its doctrines by the common
people.”
This rich, thoughtprovoking history, plus a healthy dose of imagination, inspired Lauren Bentham when she created the Pendle Hill region. Open yearround, it is an excellent destination for lovers of mystery, horror and those
“It was then that I woke up in a totally unimaginable place. The glare from the headlight covered my face as I tried to look around, to understand the inexplicable. Nothing made sense, but resolutely I struggled to remember something.”
looking for extra thrills this coming Halloween. Our hero, P e d r o, challenged himself to an immersive adventure, explored and reacted to all the dark elements and atmosphere of mystery, until his journey became a nightmare. g

“Pendle Hill isa fictional region created from my imagination, but Pendle Hill is a real place in England, linked to the witch trials of 1612,” saysLaurenBentham .
“Running through the woods, getting lost in tortuous, dark paths, I spotted a village next to a cemetery. I tried to find some sign or someone, but at the same time I was afraid of what I might find. I hid because I felt someone was chasing me. Everything was so sinister and ruined. Exhausted, I no longer knew if the things I saw were real or illusions.”

“I felt an intense headache, and despaired as voices echoed in my ears, whispered incomprehensible words that terrified me. I thought my head would explode. In this anguish I stumbled and fell beside a corpse. Lights were going on and off; I was going insane. It was horrifying, all that pain and those unceasing car horn sounds, an unbearable buzzing reminding me of memories that weren’t mine.”

“I was at war with myself. Incredulous. An “I” from a very distant past. My thoughts accused and scolded me on the floor. I couldn’t stand it and ran away. I screamed for help until I lost my voice.”

“Was I in a nightmare? All my fears were there, and there was no way out.”

“Disturbing memories made me disbelieve who I was. With no strength left to resist, I was paralyzed, faced with a vengeful and cruel past that caught me.”

“I just wanted to wake up from that endless nightmare.”

The
HOTEL INSPECTOR
In an exclusive review of his old haunt, The Ritz, Dirk Vanlager picks up the story of Vlad Korobase, owner/proprietor of the storied hotel. Two years later, Vlad is in the process of a major renovation - but the hotel hasn’t shed its classic charm

CREAMY SUNSET
So many options at The Ritz cake shop

Owner Vlad Korobase has struck a balance between preserving the hotel’s charming, classic European look and feel, and introducing a range of new features, including a branch of fête restaurant.
As a result, whether you’re a returning or firsttime visitor, now is the perfect time to go. With fall here, the grounds now also have an autumn tone, which Aria has captured in these images.

The Ritz remains one of our favourite Second LifeTM hotels and resorts, now even more so thanks to its latest enhancements. Without hesitation, we highly recommend this destination to anyone looking for a virtual getaway.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
1 - This is a self-check-in hotel. You can browse the available rooms via the rental kiosk at reception or via the website. Once in the room, you have a short amount of time to pay the rental box.
2 - Prices start at 800L per night, depending on the room
3 - The hotel largely leaves you to your own devices, but if you are after roleplay services, you can book dinner at fête.
4 - The general grounds have a Moderate rating. Just like in an RL hotel, the establishment expects you to maintain a certain amount of decorum in the public areas. The rooms themselves have adult furniture.
5 - The rooms have privacy settings to avoid anyone just walking in
6 - Most of the resort is sectioned off for guests; you get a group tag when you rent a room. There are a few public areas, such as fête restaurant, Hitchcock’s Bar, and the street in front of the hotel featuring art galleries.
Hotels in Second LifeTM come and they go, but The Ritz SL stands as a beacon of excellence, celebrating its twoyear anniversary with a makeover.

“The Imperial Suite highlight is your own private spa”
WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT THE RITZ
1 - The rooms and suites. We stayed in a brand-new ‘Imperial Suite’, which has space for two couples, with two bedrooms on either side of a common living area. The highlight, however, was the private spa, reached via elevator. At 1400L per night, this is really good value -
especially if you’re going on a double date vacation.
2 - Fête. This is one of our top favourite Second LifeTM dining experiences, and we were really pleased to see them open a branch in The Ritz. Though we didn’t manage to visit this time around, it is on our list of things to do soon.
3 - The Art District. This is open to the public and
curated by Vlad’s partner, Minerva Morningstar, an art aficionado with a long track record of running galleries in Second LifeTMand it really shows.
4 - The scale and size. It’s easy to get lost here, there is a tonne to see and do.
5 - The main spa, which Vlad has completely redecorated, looks great. The hotel hosts events here now.

“Without hesitation, we highly recommend this destination”

FACILITIES
Here are just a few of the things you can do while at The Ritz:

● There are plenty of outdoor games and activities, ranging from a football (soccer) penalty shootout game - which we enjoyed a lot - to a horse-riding enclosure. You can easily spend a full afternoon or morning here, trying everything out.
●
Hitchcock’s Bar is open to the public, as is the Art District and fête restaurant
(though for the latter you’ll need a reservation).
● Vlad is redoing the ballroom. We had a sneak preview, and it looks fantastic. When it opens, the hotel will use it to stage regular live events.
● There is a wedding pavilion, and honeymoon suite.
● The Caves De Clisson is a full underground experience for you to explore, complete with a 14th century backstory of love and betrayal.

THE GROOVE
A nascent Goddess at rest, Ms Lola Von Tease reflects on her ascent to the dizzying heights.

WITH THEIR FLY SWAGGERING ENERGY AND 24/7 ALPHA STRUT, MEN HAVE LONG BEEN THE UNDISPUTED GODS OF THE WORLD’S PARTY DJ SCENE. THEN LOLA VON TEASE SHOWED UP

BIG HEIST
Unlike Athena who sprang, fully formed, from the forehead of her father, Zeus, Goddess Lola Von Tease was not, in fact, born a Goddess. Like other Second LifeTM ‘noobs’, learning to walk, dress and voice were key moments when she arrived, migrating along with her family from IMVU. Even in those first days, however, role-playing as a teen under the safety blanket of her parents, she had a mission.
POSSIBILITIES
You can literally do and/ or be anything in Second LifeTM!
In real life, having trained in a wide range of dance since childhood, I enjoy all things artsy from visual to performing to anything to do with music.
I found there was a choreographic element to Second LifeTM, and I felt at home. I began to learn the Spot-On (dance) system; from there it kind of took on a life of its own. Videography came soon after, as I needed a platform to showcase my choreographic and DJing creative concepts
I am also a proud mother, a daughter, and a sister.
THE MISSION
Starting in Second LifeTM, I realized that while you can live and function here for free, to really enjoy it, you
need money. I was a student in RL, so my mission became to make Second LifeTM pay for itself and ultimately become a revenue source.
My first real job in Second LifeTM was Host, which a family friend recommended.
Hosting duties will vary, depending on the venue, but universally, a club’s host is the life of the party. It is also her job is to make sure that the entertainment has everything they need to successfully execute their job, as well as handle crowd control.

I discovered the DJing concept while hosting, and it intrigued me heavily. There was a DJ for whom I hosted frequently. During sets, I would ask him to mix certain songs that I heard in my head to see how they would sound.
One day, he sent me
Virtual DJ and said, “Mix it yourself.” He taught me the basic mechanics, and the rest is history.
DJ PRIORITIES
It all depends on what you want out of it. Not everybody is a mixologist when it comes to DJing in Second LifeTM. Some just want to share their love of music with others, some love the technique and artistry of the mix, some want to make money, and some want Second LifeTM clout. It’s all about why you’re in it.
If you want to mix the way I do, it takes an ear for music, passion, practice, and a love of the craft. There is a lot of skill involved in my technique, but everyone can’t be like me nor are they meant to be.
I just love music. It’s my biggest inspiration. Music is life to me.
I know it sounds a bit cliché, but music has saved my life in RL. It has gotten
to use Second LifeTM as a platform for self-expression, it just happened in that way. I chose DJing to share that love of music and that part of myself with the world. I love the entertainment aspect, seeing people enjoy

me through some of my darkest times. My best and worst moments in life all have music attached to them in some way, shape or form. My memories have songs connected to them. It’s like music is breath to life.
It was never in the plan
my music, my mixes, and my personality at an event. I love getting the perfect mix and challenging myself daily to elevate my craft. The satisfaction of knowing that I have, through my craft, touched someone with my love of music - I don’t
“My best and worst moments in life all have music attached to them in some way, shape or form.”
think drugs could produce a better high than that moment. The endorphins get to racing, the adrenaline kicks in and it’s just an amazing feeling. I have no regrets.
I also love being a female in this male dominated industry who can keep up with and even surpass her male counterparts. It’s quite riveting.
ABOUT THAT MALE-DOMINATED ENVIRONMENT
Ha! I knew this question was coming. It’s often difficult, especially mixing live in Second LifeTM, to DJ on the same level as men without selling sex to remain in the conversation. As the “Mixin
Vixen” I do have some sex appeal, but there is actual, tangible talent at the tips of these fingers.
Honestly, it may seem a little petty, but I love it when men underestimate me. I love that feeling of knowing I am about to rock someone’s world once I hit broadcast. I love being a female and empowering other females in my field to really elevate their craft and let these boys know who runs the world.
I don’t like to talk a lot on mic while I am DJing because I like to let my mixes do the talking. I often get so lost in the mixing that I have to remind myself to speak and interact with the crowd. Often, in Second LifeTM especially, DJs are booked for their personality, not necessarily their musical talents. It’s taken a while for me to find that balance.

“I’ve had to learn to be my own number one fan.”
I am also a person who feeds off crowd energy, but sometimes you can be in a space with a hundred people and only a few are voicing their enjoyment in Local Chat. It doesn’t mean you’re not doing a great job, just because you can’t see the accolades. I’ve had to learn to be my own number one fan.
Also, back to the point of being underestimated as a female DJ, I don’t let it discourage me, because it’s not a lack of talent on my end so much as a fight against an industry-wide stigma.
UPSIDE
Just being a woman in this industry who hasn’t allowed
herself to be objectified for the sake of being booked or remaining in the conversation. Showcasing natural talent, getting lost in the mix, sharing the music with the world and, in doing so, sharing a genuine part of myself. I love entertaining and I love money, and I’ve found a way to combine both of those with something that I love. Not many get that luxury.
ANGELS
I get a lot of support from family and friends and, of course, my team at Sneaky Link Entertainment - a collective of DJs, Artists, Hosts, and a Hype team that strives to bring entertainment to the Second

LifeTM grid. We currently have 7 DJs, 2 artists, one official host, a 20+ person hype team, and we are still growing. We provide everything needed to make an event great, ranging from flyer services, entertainment, bottle service, videography services etc.
As a team we really push each other to be our best selves in this industry and beyond.
DEVILS
You’re going to have haters everywhere, so you have to make it your mission to keep them employed. Meaning - their job is to hate, so to give them something to hate on.

“‘Goddess’ is a lifestyle honorific”
The “Goddess” aspect is strictly a lifestyle honorific, as I practice financial domination in both real and Second Life. That is a conversation for another day (ha-ha!). My DJing brand is more the “Mixin Vixen”, which is the female DJ who can burn up the turntables and keep her sexiness.
THE FOOD OF LOVE
I listen to literally EVERYTHING! I don’t even have playlists because my musical mood is so bipolar. I love looking for new genres to explore, and you’re liable to hear anything when it comes to my sets. This adds to the excitement of my craft because I am constantly finding ways to mix in fresh and different things, and still make it appeal to any and every crowd. Because of my extensive knowledge and love for music, I can play to various crowds. However, I find my bookings predominantly on the “urban” side of Second Life, and their musical preferences are often limited to specific genres. I love to integrate new/different music into the mix of their preconceived preferences.
PAYING IT FORWARD
I teach DJ classes in SL, and I love seeing my students go
out into the world, take off and enjoy DJing as much as I do.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I want to keep elevating in my craft, to continue to get better and share my gift with the world. I have already taken my DJing outside of SL and I do it in RL as well. There are a lot of differences with DJing in RL versus SL. One of those is the amount of money people feel they are willing to pay for your services. In Second Life, I find that a lot of work gets devalued. That’s not just DJing but content creation, sex work, etc.
For example, the typical DJ set in SL is two hours. For two hours of DJing in RL, a DJ can make about $300 USD. In Second Life, I charge $4500L + tips per hour which equates to about $40 USD for a two-hour set. Some people consider that “too expensive” when, in fact, we do the exact same thing in both worlds. Also, in RL you do not have hosts; typically, that responsibility falls on the DJ as they are the entertainment. There are just so many things… I could write a book!
THE GOATS
Gosh there are so many! Of course, the OG big 3 – the original three fathers of
the art form: Grandmaster Flash, Cool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa paved the way for DJing to even become a thing. I love Deadmau5, David Guetta, and so many more. I honestly love anyone who has taken this craft and made it their own.
GOALS
I don’t know what the future holds, but I am always looking for new ways to make SL fun and interesting, considering I’ve been here for so long.
I would love to do a major festival like Coachella or SXSW or Burning Man or Rolling Loud or something like that. A girl can dream right?
You’ll have to follow me to see what I do next!

MARCUS LEFEVRE-ENIMO Remembering
A few weeks ago, I married the one person with whom I really connect in Second Life. As with most weddings, several invitations were sent, including one to Marcus and Hikaru.
For, me, it was a surprise when Marcus showed up to the ceremony. I knew of his health situation and didn’t expect him to come. I was glad he was able to attend. As were talking after the ceremony, he said, “You know Wyatt, it really makes me happy to see you happy.” That is who Marcus was, he liked to see people happy and successful, whether in Second Life or in our other life (the real one).
Marcus leaves an incomparable legacy. As owner and founder of the MS SL Organization, he brought the Second Life fashion community together with competitions like MS SL, MR SL and Avistars. Through his agency, he also provided models to fashion shows like L’Homme Magazine, Neo-Japan, and others.
As for me, I don’t really know the history of how it all began, but I can say this: I am glad I participated in the competitions. As other models will tell you, many of us had no clue how the Second Life fashion world works, or what to expect. But that didn’t matter to Marcus; he welcomed all, hoped he would, in some way, make another’s Second Life fun and memorable. He enjoyed watching people blossom, grow, and create. Many of us still model, others own clothing lines or other businesses in Second Life. Those sparks of creativity started with a person named Marcus, who gave every one of us a chance. Friendships grew out of the opportunity. I personally have close friends now, with whom I was on that runway, stressing out the first time we walked the big stage.
I can never thank him enough.
I know that Marcus will be watching us from above. My personal goal is to do my best to help keep his legacy alive, and I know others feel the same way. Of course, I will be expecting a table or chair to be thrown from up above (inside joke).
Rest, my dear friend. You have left us something that we can only build upon, and you will always be there when we walk that MS SL Stage.
To my dear friend, Hikaru: Stay strong and know he will always be with you. You have amazing family and friends that are here to support you in whatever you need. We love you! -
