1 CORINTHIANS
13.11-14.5
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now, we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue a does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, b but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, c unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried
by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.

EVE OF THE FAST OF ASSUMPTION
According to the Armenian Liturgical Calendar this Sunday August 10 is the Eve of the Fast of Assumption of Holy Mother of God. This fast starts on Monday and ends on Saturday. The Saturday is Navagadik, which is the mildest day of the fast. On this day only meat products are not permitted. As the Paregentan օf the Feast of Assumption concludes, on that same Saturday, the Armenian Church also commemorates the Feast of the Apparition of Holy Etchmiadzin or the Feast of Shoghagat of Holy Echmiadzin. This feast commemorates the vision of St. Gregory the Illuminator, where Jesus Christ descended from heavens as a ray of light and showed the site for the foundation of the new cathedral.

FEAST OF THE APPARITION “SHOGHAKAT” OF HOLY ETCHMIADZIN
The Feast of “Shoghakat” of Holy Etchmiadzin commemorates the inauguration of the Cathedral of the Mother See. According to the fifth century Greek historian Agathangelos, St. Gregory had a divine vision, wherein our Lord Jesus Christ descended from Heaven and stroke the ground with His golden hammer.
The vision of Gregory became known as “Shoghakat”, as the Saint saw a ray of light descending from heavens. The Armenian church has 2 feasts
dedicated to Holy Etchmiadzin:
• the feast of Etchmiadzin, dedicated to the vision where Christ decended from heaven and showed the place of the cathedral (2 weeks after Pentecost)
• the feast of Shoghakat, dedicated to the inauguration of the cathedral based on the same vision.
