We're targeting discrimination in football. Can you help?

We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination in football. We’re calling on clubs and leagues like your own to report hate, prejudice or discrimination whenever you see it or hear it. For those people who behave in a racist, sexist or homophobic way, the message is clear. Enough is Enough. When we know it has happened, we can take the actions needed to remove discriminatory behaviour. We'll be doing so through a range of punishments: • Players will be removed from play and suspended. • Teams can have points deducted. • Grounds can be closed for repeat offenders. Together we can end hate in football. Spread the word that discrimination of all forms will be punished. Share with your welfare officers, league and club officials, and everyone across your league and clubs. We want everyone across grassroots football to know...

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. TELL US, WE’LL TACKLE IT.

Chairmans report – Christmas 2023 Season 23/24 seemed to start in a flash this year after finishing the previous quite late due to our success in the St Mary’s Cup. The first half of this season has been very difficult off the pitch but, on the pitch, we have been lucky to witness some great football. Before I talk about football, I must mention the tough start to September that everyone at the club had to go through. The worst thing happened when we sadly lost Dean Bradford, our club Secretary, very suddenly. Whilst arriving at an away game in Shefford, I was told the devastating news about Dean, and this turned out to be one of the hardest days as my role as Chairman but also as Dean’s friend. The club came together during this tough time for each other but also for Dean’s family. Dean we will remember you fondly and you will always be in our hearts.

On the Pitch For the first time in 7/8 seasons the club decided to run a Development side for this season, allowing players to take the step from the Under 18s into the men’s game and then into the first team. This was a new venture for many of us but was going to be exciting as we started the new season. The first team started training early as normal and pushed on into Pre-Season games. A lot of old faces were back, and we welcomed a few new ones also. Pre-season went well with 5 out of 7 wins and scoring quite a few goals made us look very much forward to the start of the season. The lads had a mix bag from August to October, winning just as many games as we lost, with a little visit to Walthamstow in the FA where we were very unlucky not to win, although the scoreline would suggest different. Middle of October rolls round and we push on with 6 games unbeaten only to fall at the hurdle against Harpenden. Next up we faced a difficult couple of games against a very good MK Irish and a hardworking physical FC Romania, coming out with 4 points out of the 6 available. The weather has since got the better of us but as Christmas rolls around, we have some very local games to look out including Dunstable, Colney Heath, Crawley Green and Tring Athletic. The First team are currently sitting in a very respectable 4th place for the first half of the season which keeps us all very excited for the next 4 months ahead. The Development Team stepped straight into the Herts County league Premier Division for their first season at Leverstock. A big step but one we all grabbed with both hands. It’s been a very up and down start to the season for the lads and the management team, as we unfortunately had to make a change in management mid-way through as we bought in the new management team of Andy Murray and Steve Newing. The Development teams’ results have been varied over the first half of the season, but they have been able to show their abilities. We’ve played very well against some of the top sides, just narrowly losing out to Belstone just before Christmas in a 2-1 defeat and winning important games to hopefully keep pushing us above that line. I’m excited to see what this team builds on for the remainder of the season. The Under 18’s have also had a very varied start to the season with results not showing the effort and abilities that this group of players have between them. We started this season with a new Management team in Aaron, Dan Renton and Dan Sadler which introduced players from last season’s EJA U16 team and some remaining players from the season before. A highlight for all the lads I’m sure was the brilliant away win at Barnet which was so well deserved with the performance of the season so far. They are such a great bunch of players and I’m very much looking forward to seeing the second half of the season and seeing where these lads will end up.

Off the Pitch Off the pitch work is never ending as normal and this year was no different. We worked hard to finish some summer jobs around the club and the grounds team worked incredibly hard to get the pitch ready in a very short space of time. We started off the season in the same way as we left last with regards to the Officers and welcomed a few new faces to the committee, making the committee the largest it has been in about 7 years. It’s a pleasure to welcome new committee members and allow them to see why we all do what we do. A thank you to Lords again for signing up for another season with us as our main club Sponsor, providing all the kits for the first team and under 18s. We also welcomed Condell’s who come on as the Sponsors for the Development Team, thank you again for all your support. A huge thank you to all the sponsors that have come on board this year with board signs, donations, and package deals, we are so grateful for your support. A massive thank you to the Management teams, Players, Officers and Committee members for their hard work and effort as always, allowing the club to push forward in the way we all believe it can. The Supporters for watching us in the sunshine, cold, wind and rain and supporting all the teams equally. The Bar and Tea Bar staff for all your hard work and to the backroom staff, I thank you. I’m very excited to see the remainder of this season with opportunities for Leverstock to progress further than before, changes going on to the facilities and changes in the backroom staff, stay with us as we all go through these exciting times. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Your Chairman Emma

https://kitaid.net A few words about KitAid KitAid is a charity set up by, Derrick Williams MBE, who visited Tanzania on a WaterAid supporters’ trip in 1998. Derrick, being a mad footie fan, was amazed at the reception he received from children and adults in remote villages just because he was wearing one of his favourite football shirts (he follows Watford, Liverpool and Chesham Utd). After two weeks in Tanzania, a flame was lit in Derrick’s heart, and he was on a mission to provide kit and equipment to the bare-footed children playing with footballs made of tied string and plastic bags. Twenty-one years on, KitAid has lots of volunteers and to date we’ve sent out 900,000+ kits to children and adults in 55 different countries across the world.

How to donate

If you’d like to support the KitAid cause, the easiest way to donate your unwanted football kit, in order for us to find it a new home. Alternatively, if you don’t have any unwanted kit, but would still like to support us, we’re very grateful for any donations which will help to fund our annual costs as well as support other partnership charities where possible. We thank you for all your support.

In working in some of the most under-privileged countries around the world, The Football Association is no stranger to seeing the impact the donation of something as simple as a shirt or a pair of shorts can make. KitAid has brought an enormous amount of pleasure and enjoyment to young and old alike through the gift of football kit and has shared the spirit of British clubs and the England team with communities in all corners of the globe. We are proud to be associated with KitAid and wish them all the best in their endeavours for the years to come. Jane Bateman, Head of International Relations, The Football Association

Crawley Green History

Crawley Green Sports & Social Club was formed in November 1989 after arsonists caused the virtual destruction of the present building. Members of Stopsley Harriers, The Wyvern and Ramridge Rangers Sunday Football Clubs amalgamated to form the present club and were successful in securing a 99-year lease from the Council. The New Club house was formally open on 19th June, 1992 by then Luton Town manager, David Pleat. The badge incorporates all the elements of the three founding clubs but also local history. The club badge was adopted in 1996 after many years of discussion. Maroon was the colour of the largest single club Ramridge Rangers, and it was adopted as the club colour. It is incorporated in the Club badge as the bar across the middle. Stopsley Harriers were well known for their red and blue quarters, whilst Wyvern Members were predominantly blue since their foundation. Both these colours are reflected in the badge. Crawley Green FC Saturday side was formed in 1993 after another local team, Somerset Tavern came under the Crawley Green umbrella. The club colour of maroon was adopted by the team. In 2018 Luton Town FC and Crawley Green FC further enhanced their club partnership with the announcement that Crawley Green FC will play their home games at The Brache training ground from season 2018-2019. Crawley Green, who are the only Luton based team to play at step 5 or above of the National League System, have been trying since 2008 to get permission to build a suitable stadium. Unfortunately, in that time they have failed to receive the support needed from Luton Borough Council, despite there being no cost involved for the Council. This decision has meant that they have had to ground share with Barton Rovers FC for 11 years now, to enable the team to continue to play at that level. This is a poor indictment of the Council’s attitude to football in Luton, considering that other major towns in Bedfordshire have at least one team each playing step 6 or above. Their lack of support in comparison to the likes of Biggleswade (3 teams), Bedford (2 teams), Dunstable (2 teams), Leighton Buzzard (1 team) and Kempston (1 team), means that even our local leagues have the ignominy of having to travel to local villages to host their cup finals. Luton recently installed a brand-new all-weather surface down at the training ground and to comply with national ground grading criteria Crawley Green will complete the remaining requirements. This will include new changing rooms, dugouts, turnstile, and spectator

standing area. Tony Talbot, Chairman of Crawley Green stated: “We would like to thank Gary Sweet and Kevan Platt and everyone at Luton Town FC for firstly affording us this opportunity and then their support in making this happen. “In the past we have seen a number of ex-Crawley Green players go on to play for Luton, but our partnership has really continued to grow in recent years. It’s with great satisfaction for us that we are currently seeing James Justin starring for the first team. In addition, the recently transferred Tyreeq Bakinson and four of the current U18s team, Josh Neufville, Joe Mead, Ciaren Jones and Michael Shamalo all came through our youth system. “A town the size of Luton needs a successful professional club, as well as teams playing in the national league pyramid”. This gives our talented youngsters a pathway to development, without having to go outside the borough to develop. “In addition, underneath these clubs is a large community hub, which affords lots of youngsters the opportunity to play football. These community hubs ensure all young people have the opportunity to participate in football in a safe supportive environment, which preserves the dignity and respect of the individual regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religion, disability, income, and any other social deprivation. With Government statistics showing a concerning rise in childhood obesity throughout the UK, these community hubs encourage our children to stay active and engage in physical activity. This all helps promote health, self-confidence, and importantly social cohesion, and hopefully leads to the wider benefits in raising standards.” Hatters’ chief executive Gary Sweet said: “We see ourselves as guardians of elite football in our region and part of that responsibility is to help – wherever possible – other local, aspirational clubs develop and thrive, staying at the core of their roots. “The challenges faced at Crawley Green were difficult and, with the great relationship we’ve had over the years, having recruited numerous young players from their excellent development structure, we’re proud to help Crawley Green retain a local home for their competitive games, just as we are happy to utilise our existing training facility at perhaps the only time when it won’t get used.” In recognition of his services to the community and sport, Crawley Green Sports & Social Club Chairman, Tony Talbot was awarded a BEM – British Empire Medal - in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List. Finally, Crawley Green would like to sincerely thank all their programme advertisers, match ball and match day sponsors for their generous support throughout the season.

Alan Lee Reporting Sawbridgeworth Town 1 Leverstock Green 3 Leverstock Green consolidated their position of fourth place in the SSML Premier Division as they came back from the trip to bottom side Sawbridgeworth Town with all three points on Saturday. It wasn’t the prettiest of performances, but in a game which saw four penalties awarded Leverstock netted two of their three to complete their first league double of the season. It was a bright start for the Leverstock side as they took the lead in the third minute of the game. Ryan Carruthers made a run from his own half before playing the ball out wide to Rawn Seale, who’s cross found Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica in the box. Stefanoaica had to twist and turn past a defender but eventually got his shot away and fired past keeper Jack Ryan to open the scoring. Stefanoaica had a chance of a second in the 30th minute when he was through on goal, but Ryan saved and the rebound just eluded Luke Beckwith. Three minutes later a great pass from Seale put Stefanoaica through again but he couldn’t get past the last defender to get a shot in. In the 39th minute Stefanoaica turned provider as he squared for Seale, who hit a first time shot but Ryan turned it over the bar with his feet. There had been little threat against the Leverstock goal up to now, but three minutes before half time the home team had a chance with a free kick inches outside the penalty area. However, the Leverstock wall did its job and blocked the shot. Sawbridgeworth had been close to getting a penalty there, and in first half stoppage time they were awarded a penalty which seemed to be very harsh as there appeared to be no contact against the attacking player. Kyron Mitchell netted the spot kick to send the sides into the break level at 1-1. Ten minutes into the second half a pass from Carruthers put Seale through on goal and clear of the last defender. Seale tried to take the ball round Ryan but was brought down by the keeper’s challenge. The referee awarded the second penalty of the game, but Leverstock failed to take advantage as Stefanoaica’s shot came back off the post. In the 63rd minute Seale was on the wrong end of another challenge from Ryan as he was clattered in mid-air while going up for a header inside the box. Ryan was red carded for serious foul play and the referee awarded the third penalty of the game. This time it was Dan Pett who stepped up to take the kick, and Pett made no mistake as he put Leverstock back in front at 2-1. Leverstock continued to enjoy the bulk of possession against the home side who were now reduced to ten men. In the 75th minute Ethan Mooney made a run into the box but was sent sprawling by a late tackle from Wesley Santos, and for the fourth time in the game the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Stefanoaica wanted to make up for his earlier miss, so he took responsibility again, and this time his penalty found the net for his second goal of the game and Leverstock’s third. That was the last meaningful action of the game as Leverstock saw out the win with no late drama and collected another crucial three points. Leverstock Green (1) 3 (Stefanoaica 3, 76 pen, Pett 65 pen) 1. Josh Bowler, 2. Ethan Mooney (16. Dan Weeks 81 mins), 3. Rio Beach, 4. Paul Marks, 5. Callum Neal, 6. Ryan Carruthers (12. Step 4 and Step Flay Offs 2023/24 Season The Clubs finishing in the bottom two places in each of the eight divisions at Step 4 at the end of the Regular Season will be relegated and placed in a feeder pool and placed in the most geographically appropriate division at Step 5 for the following Playing Season. Clubs relegated for finishing in the bottom two places in each of the eight divisions at Step 4 will be replaced by the Clubs finishing in 1st position in each of the sixteen divisions at Step 5 together with a further 16 Clubs (one Club from each of the sixteen divisions at Step 5) determined by a series of Play Off Matches. Where a Club finishes in 1st position but does not meet the minimum criteria for promotion to the next Step (which shall include being awarded a Grade 5 following an independent ground grading inspection), the Club finishing in 2nd position shall be promoted and the Club finishing in 3rd position (and so on) shall be the Club in the next eligible position to take part in the Play Off Matches. Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green 1 Colney Heath 4 It was an afternoon to forget for Leverstock Green, who crashed to a heavy home defeat to in-form neighbours Colney Heath and suffered a serious injury. It was a similar line-up to that which had played the last four games unbeaten, except that Ryan Carruthers was absent through suspension, and George Mitchell-Gears started in place of Luke Beckwith. The visitors opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game, and it was a goal that Green keeper Josh Bowler will be disappointed with, as a long-range shot from Jack Kimber bounced in front of him and found the net. A few minutes later Mitchell-Gears went into an innocuous challenge with an opponent but landed awkwardly. After initially trying to continue, Mitchell-Gears went down in agony and was stretchered off in the 13th minute with what looked like a serious ankle injury. Three minutes later Leverstock were two goals down to another avoidable goal, as Jack Percy ran from his own half through the Green defence with barely a challenge before slotting past Bowler to double his side’s lead. On 24 minutes Leverstock had the chance to pull a goal back when Rio Beach was sent flying by a challenge in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. However, Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica missed for the second Saturday in a row as his kick was comfortably saved by Colney keeper Connor Sansom. The penalty miss was soon forgotten, as four minutes later Dan Pett swung in a free kick from the right, and Stefanoaica connected with a looping header that went in off the post to reduce the arrears to 2-1 and put Leverstock back in the game. However, it was only another three minutes before Colney were two goals back in front, as Kai ThomasFraser got up unchallenged to head home a corner at the far post. In the last minute of first half stoppage time Stefanoaica got on the end of another Pett free kick, but this time his header went into the arms of Sansom, and the scoreline was still 3-1 at half time. Leverstock needed to get a goal back and they very nearly did in the 52nd minute. Ethan Mooney’s cross was headed away, but only as far as Luke Beckwith, who hit a shot that rattled the crossbar. Instead of pulling a goal back, Leverstock found themselves further behind four minutes later, Bowler pulled off a good save to keep out a shot, but the rebound was not cleared, and George Sippetts had an easy chance to shoot home from close range. That put paid to any chance of a comeback, although Beckwith was unlucky again in the 76th minute as he struck the woodwork again, this time with a shot that hit the inside of the post and rebounded across goal, but didn’t go in. It was only Leverstock’s second league defeat since early October, but they will need to turn things around quickly with further home games against Crawley Green and Tring Athletic between Christmas and New Year. Leverstock Green (1) 1 (Stefanoaica 28) 1. Josh Bowler, 2. Ethan Mooney, 3. Rio Beach, 4. Paul Marks (18. Luke Durnin 63 mins), 5. Callum Neal, 6. Nat Connolly (17. Mikey Havill-Tierney 75 mins), 7. Development & U18’s Team News Leverstock Green Development registered their first win since the appointment of Andy Murray as manager as they travelled to Baldock Town Reserves and came away with the three points. Two goals from Jamie McIntosh were enough for a 2-0 win. It was a bad day at the office for Leverstock Green Development, who were 3-1 down at half time and 6-1 down at full time to Oracle Components. Manager Andy Murray described it as “a spanking”. Leverstock Green Development put in a great effort against unbeaten league leaders Belstone in Saturday’s HSCL Premier Division fixture. There were several new signings in the squad, including Evripidis Grigoriou, on loan from Barnet, and his goal had the Leverstock side leading 1-0 at half time. However, Belstone struck back in the second half and eventually won the game 2-1 with a last-minute goal. The Development Team registered their fourth win of the season as they overcame local rivals Colney Heath Reserves at the Lords Builders Merchants Stadium on Saturday. Two goals from Callum Moore midway through the first half, the second from the penalty spot, established a 2-0 lead which was held until Colney pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time at the end of the game.

The under-18s registered their third league win of the season on Thursday night, an impressive 30 result against Aylesbury Vale Dynamos at the Lords Builders Merchants Stadium. Shay Kelly scored the opening goal in first half stoppage time, while Jamie McIntosh (76) and Luc Dischamps (82) added further goals in the second half. The under-18s moved into the last 16 of the Brian Hitchings Cup with a 4-1 win at Crawley Green in Tuesday night’s Second Round tie. Connor McGinty opened the scoring in the 27th minute, and Jamie McIntosh added a second six minutes later. The hosts pulled a goal back after half time, but McIntosh struck again in the 76th and 8th minutes to complete his hat-trick and a 4-1 win.
