Alan Lee Reporting Hemel Hempstead Town 6 VS Leverstock Green 1 Leverstock Green exited the Herts Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage with a heavy defeat to a strong Hemel Hempstead Town on Tuesday night.

There were plenty of first team regulars in the Hemel side, and having already had a couple of chances they opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Oliver Hamstead put Oliver Lynch through to shoot home from the edge of the box. A second goal was added in the 20th minute as Leverstock keeper Ryan North neemed to have the ball in his hands, but Mazeed Ogungbo came in to force the ball home from close range. A foul from Kyle Connolly resulted in a Hemel penalty in the 33rd minute, which Lynch put away for his second and Hemel’s third goal of the match.

Hemel were awarded another penalty in the 53rd minute which was again converted by Lynch to complete his hat-trick, and it was 5-0 in the 62nd minute as Ethan Light came in at the far post to score with a header. Eoin McKeown added the sixth goal in the 71st minute. Leverstock had created few chances during the game, but in the 82nd minute they got a consolation goal as Marcus Warren curled home a shot from the edge of the box to score his first goal for the club.

Leverstock now have just the league to concentrate on, with 11 games to play from which they need plenty of points to save their Southern League status.

Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green Reserves 2 VS Everett Rovers 1 Leverstock Green Reserves finally won their first game of 2025 as they came from behind to beat promotion rivals Everett Rovers on Tuesday night. The visitors took the lead in the first half, but two red cards saw them reduced to nine men in the second half, and goals from Callum Moore and Kaashan Darr turned the game in Leverstock’s favour.

Northleigh Club History North Leigh were formed in 1908, but it was only following the Second World War that the club start- ed to make its mark in Witney and District League. The club won the Witney and District League Premier Division title seven times in the 1950’s and also enjoyed success in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup. In the 1980s the club resumed its trophy winning habits with five successive Witney and District League titles earning it a place in the Hellenic League Division 1 for the season 1990/91.

The club enjoyed a good first season in the Hellenic League, finishing in 4th position and being the Division’s highest goal scorers apart from Champions Cinderford Town. In the club’s second season it again achieved 4th position averaging two points per game, scoring 84 goals in the process. In the third season, the club finished runners up to Tuffley Rovers in Division 1 and so took its place in the Hellenic League Premier Division along with the champions.

In 1997/98 the club reached the second round of the FA Vase for the third time before losing to Elmore. They finished the season in 4th place in the Hellenic League Premier Division, and capped their season off by reaching the final in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup where they were only narrowly beaten by their Oxfordshire rivals Witney Town 1-0 after extra time.

The season 2001/02 was without doubt been the most successful in the club’s history to date.

After a superb season of consistently high performances and an epic struggle with both Gloucester United and Yate Town throughout the season to occupy top spot, the club eventually succeeded in winning for the very first time, the Premier Division title. The club also reached the final of both the Oxfordshire Senior Cup and the Hellenic League Challenge Cup. In season 2002/03 the club went one better and with smaller squad than the previous year and arguably stronger league opposition, retained the title with a winning margin of 10points over Yate Town (the team pipped the previous year) and local rivals Carterton. Unfortunately the ground at this stage was not up to required standard for the team to take promotion to the next level. In season 2003/04 a disappointing eighth place in the league was offset by a tremendous run in the FA Vase where club reached the last 32 and with reasonable luck would have progressed further.

In 2004/05 the club finished in seventh place in the league but the highlight was the truly memorable run in the FA Cup as the last Hellenic team left in the competition defeating Deal Town, Walton Casuals and Edgware Town and only losing out to Conference South outfit Newport County in Wales after holding them to a draw at Eynsham Park.

In season 2005/06 after an excellent start and leading the table during the early part of the season the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Southern League finishing in fourth place after a disappointing late run.

In season 2006/07 after a head to head contest with Slimbridge and narrowly finishing

behind them after an epic struggle and a particularly strong finish to the season including a double win home & away against them, the club were severely disappointed to learn of their withdrawal from promotion to the Southern League at a stage too late for them to be replaced them even though North Leigh’s home ground had by now received the necessary FA approval to play at the higher level.

In season 2007/08 in the club’s centenary year it looked to be a minor image of the previous year with the team vying for the top spot throughout the season and just losing out in the final push for promotion. However in a truly magnificent finish to the season the team overhauled the long term leaders of the division, Almondsbury Town in their very last league game, winning the league title and promotion on goal differences. In addition and a few weeks later prior to winning the league title, the club won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup for the first time in history defeating on Oxford United team in the QF and Banbury United (Southern League Premier in the final. So the club climbed to its highest ever position in the non-league pyramid by joining the Southern League S&W in 2008 and during its membership over the past eleven years has been a model of consistency finishing in a top ten position in every season until last. Major changes occurred in 2016 with the departure of long serving Manager Mark Gee and the appointment of John Brough who had just won the league with Cinderford Town. 2018/19 saw North Leigh fighting for their survival both in the Southern League and as a club with financial struggles impacting every decision made on and off the pitch. With the departure of John Brough, joint Managers Craig Dore and Darren James took the helm with an almost impossible task ahead. Arriving from years working in the Oxford City youth program, they had a strong desire to play young attacking football but a very limited playing budget meant a lot of hard results to swallow including an 8-1 home defeat to Corby Town.

Despite occupying a relegation zone spot for most of the season and being 8 points from safety with 6 games to go, the Millers completed the great escape with a final day draw against league champions Peterborough Sports.

Following a season of restructuring and consolidation, the Millers started the 19/20 season in a much-improved position. A number of familiar faces returned to the first team fold, following spells playing elsewhere and these were joined by a couple of

standout additions. The first team were clearly much stronger as the team hovered around mid-table and looked well positioned to make a late push towards the playoffs as the season came to a conclusion. However, nobody would have foreseen in August of 2019 how the 19/20 season would be curtailed and in what manner. The season still deemed a success by the club; highlights included reaching the Second Qualifying round of the FA Cup and a trip to local rivals Oxford City and young starlet Henry Landers notching all 5 goals in an away victory at Bedford Town Only a handful of matches were completed during the 20/21 season, with the club sitting second bottom of the league when proceedings were halted in November 2020. It had been a difficult start to the season for the Millers, exiting the FA Cup in the first competitive match of the season at Marlow and only registering a single victory in the seven completed league matches. The undoubted highlight was an FA Trophy run to the First- Round proper, equalling the club’s best run in the competition.

Much of 2020 and 2021 has seen North Leigh consolidate and safeguard the club’s future during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has worked hard to ensure the club remains on a sound financial footing, whilst where possible working hard to continue modernising and ensuring the club is in a positive position for the resumption of competitive football for the 2021/22 season. There is an optimistic and confident feeling around the club, and everyone associated is extremely excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, both on and off the field.

Season 2021/22 was a historic season for the Millers; Manager Eddie Odhiambo, in his first season of football management, lead his side to promotion via the play-offs and brought Step 3 football to Eynsham Park for the first time in the club’s history. The club’s play-off place secured despite finishing 6th and only confirmed after the last game of the season as Welwyn Garden City were excluding as a result of ground grading complications. Semi-Final victory on the road at Berkhamsted and victory at Ware in the final thanks to two injury time goals from journeyman striker Jefferson Louis. What a season!! Unbeaten in Oxfordshire derby matches, 2 defeats on the road all season, Oxon Senior Cup Semi-Finalists; all that was missing was a cup run in the FA Competitions!!

Thomas Taylor: Tom has endless energy and will sign as part of a dual registration for the season.

George Rushton: George was introduced to the first team in the 23/24 campaign playing in both defensive and midfield roles.

Riley Cotter: Riley was a regular at the end of the 23/24 season. A real technician of the game who has shown real responsibility and quality on the pitch during pre-season.

Louis Mathias: A new signing for the 24/25 campaign. Louis has had an impressive pre-season showing his huge potential and natural ability. A great passer who likes to get forward.

Andre Bromfield: Andre established himself in the 23/24 campaign where he impressed with his physicality and communication skills.

Mekhi Thomas: Mekhi is a further new addition for the 24/25 campaign after impressing in pre-season. Mekhi has raw speed and quality to match.

Viktor Alivizu Hernandez: Viktor became a regular in the 23/24 season playing in all attacking positions. Viktor is powerful, an excellent dribbler and a real attacking threat.

Calvin Njoroge: Calvin is a new addition for the 24/24 season. Calvin has been hugely impressive in pre-season showing his running, dribbling and shooting capabilities.

Ed Odley: Joined from Buckingham. An exciting energetic young midfielder who covers the pitch well and can unlock defences.

Pelumi Maxwell: A talented defender, comfortable across the back line, can take charge of the back line and sets a fantastic example.

Joe Smart: An exciting young defender, another player with links to Oxford city. Tall powerful and physical player.

Luke Thompson: Fast becoming a vital player in the first team, Luke is a commanding figure with a calm head, good footballing brain and respected by all.

Tobi Shoyoye: A powerful and experienced forward with a great presence in the box, Tobi is a handful for any defence to handle.

Brendan Neale, Started the season with our reserves, Brendan has taken the big step forward in his stride, growing with every start, a strong and physical full back who will compete for everything.

Denzel Tengwana, A young full back who has just signed, looks very capable and confident on the ball, can become a vital player.

By Jon Couch AMIDST the serious stuff confined behind the closed doors of a football club boardroom, a level of humility is so important.

Football is a different animal these days – especially at elite level – with the Beautiful Game now almost a subsidiary to a ruthless, cut-throat business enterprise.

But Non-League football, where the game is at its purest, still proudly holds its traditional values and there’s one day a year in particular where that humility comes to the fore; April Fool’s Day. Fueled largely these days by their social media presence, football clubs simply can’t resist playing a light-hearted seasonal prank on their supporter base and, let’s face it, it gets us every time!

Take Ebbsfleet United’s Liam Daish being pictured holding aloft a Usain Bolt shirt with his 100m record 9.58 emblazed on the back after the club announced they had clinched the signing of the Jamaican sprinter.

Or, how about when the United Counties League announced they were to trial VAR – a reveal so convincing that it even

fooled some FA chiefs into questioning the move around the boardroom table.

This week, of course, the tricksters were out in force again – and your Non-League clubs didn’t disappoint.

Many pranks involved aspects of stadia with Tiverton Town revealing their intention to paint their pitch in the club’s yellow and black colours in a spirited attempt to rally the team for the final stretch of the season.

Farnborough FC announced that their pitch was to double up as a heliport, as an extension of Farnborough Airport, while neighbours Aldershot Town revealed, Del Boy style, that they had discovered a natural spring at their EBB Stadium and would be offering Aldershot Natural Spring Water in the near future. Water cheek!

Crowborough Athletic went a step further by announcing plans to move into a ‘world-class’ all-seater stadium dubbed “Wembley of the Weald”, while Radstock Town also unveiled plans to build a brand-new stadium on the site of an old CoOp supermarket.

Ashington continued the theme by announcing the club were being forced to move into the grounds of the nearby Ashington Hirst Castle by the Coal Authority after a small hole was found in one of the penalty areas, caused by a collapsed seam from the former Woodhorn Colliery.

Several clubs revealed they had signed former star players – with two, ironically, snapping up the same one! Former Fulham, Wigan and Ipswich midfielder Jimmy Bullard was

introduced by both SC Thamesmead and Boston Town, while ex-Tottenham favourite and TV pundit Garth Crooks was unveiled by Leighton Town.

Elsewhere, Chorley FC announced the exclusive launch of their club collectables, including a figurine of manager Andy Preece, while Tamworth confirmed that their Lamb Ground will to host competitive lamb racing on a matchday as part of their half-time entertainment. That’s baa-rly believable!

And in a bold step for international relations, Dover Athletic revealed how they will play their next home game across the Channel in Calais with fans invited to attend the match aboard the new club ferry.

Bishops Cleeve unveiled a new slick oil colour shirt (which actually looked quite nice) in conjunction with a sponsorship deal with petrochemical giants INEOS, while Welsh club Colwyn Bay announced that, as from next season, the club will be known as the Turtles rather than the Seagulls, as part of our new partnership with The Blue Turtle Group, with the team running out to the song ‘Turtle Power’.

So, once again for April Fool’s Day, our Non-League clubs have done us proud while reminding us that amidst all our airs and graces as football fans, there is always room for a lighter side.

A few words about KitAid KitAid is a charity set up by, Derrick Williams MBE, who visited Tanzania on a WaterAid supporters’ trip in 1998. Derrick, being a mad footie fan, was amazed at the reception he received from children and adults in remote villages just because he was wearing one of his favourite football shirts (he follows Watford, Liverpool and Chesham Utd).

After two weeks in Tanzania, a flame was lit in Derrick’s heart, and he was on a mission to provide kit and equipment to the bare-footed children playing with footballs made of tied string and plastic bags. Twenty-one years on, KitAid has lots of volunteers and to date we’ve sent out 900,000+ kits to children and adults in 55 different countries across the world.

Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green 0 VS Berkhamsted 3 Leverstock Green suffered another defeat as promotion-chasing neighbours Berkhamsted visited for a local derby in the Southern League Division One Central, and came away with a comfortable win.

Two early goals put the visitors in a position of control that they never looked like relinquishing. In the 6th minute Louie Collier crossed for BJ Christie to open the scoring with a simple close-range header. Leverstock could have replied within two minutes. Dan Pett won the ball in midfield and suddenly it was two on one as Pett found Luke Beckwith in front of goal, but Beckwith took an extra touch which allowed Jack Tompkins to come in from behind with a challenge which the referee deemed fair.

In the 15th minute Christie added the second Berko goal, beating Dan Weeks on the edge of the box before curling a superb finish past Ryan North. Again Leverstock had the chance to get a goal back in the 23rd minute. Rawn Seale had a sight of goal, but chose to square for Guiseppe Delgaudio, who was in a better position, but again took an extra touch which allowed a challenge to come in. Delgaudio was injured in the challenge and had to leave the game in the 34th minute.

Leverstock had another couple of chances, but were denied twice by Josh Bowler, the goalkeeper of their promotion-winning side last season. In the 54th minute Seale made a powerful run through the Berko defence, but his eventual shot was kept out by Bowler, and two minutes later Bowler did well to turn a superb long-range effort from Beckwith round the post.

Berko were in cruise control for most of the second half, but added a third goal in the 78th minute. Rayan Clarke was brought down by a challenge inside the box, and another former Leverstock player Jonathan Lacey scored from the penalty spot.

Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green 1 VS Northwood 0 It was a must-win game for Leverstock Green against relegation rivals Northwood, and Callum Neal’s second half goal ensured that the three points were duly taken. The win moves Leverstock out of the Southern League Division One Central relegation zone on goal difference, with five games to play.

The whole Leverstock team put in a tremendous shift with a strong, disciplined performance against a dangerous Northwood side that had scored five goals in their previous game. There were some early chances for the Green side. In the 4th minute Jeffrey Sekyere won a header in the box to set up Luke Beckwith with a chance, but he shot into the side netting. Three minutes later Beckwith was in on goal again from an Ademide Baruwa pass, but visiting keeper Dan Hosier turned his shot wide. In the 10th minute Sekyere had a shooting chance from close range but it took a deflection off a defender and went just over the bar. In the 35th minute Callum Neal connected with a volley from the edge of the box that went across goal and wide.

The second half saw Northwood attacking down the slope, and in the 53rd minute Samuel Folarin had a run at goal but his shot was saved

by Ryan North. Two minutes later came the crucial moment as Leverstock were awarded a free kick midway inside the Northwood half. Kyle Connolly floated in a perfect delivery which Neal met on the edge of the area with a thumping header that beat Hosier to open the scoring.

There were chances for Leverstock to extend their lead. In the 67th minute a long-range shot from Dan Pett was turned wide by Hosier.

Three minutes later Rawn Seale hit the bar with a header from a corner. In the 73rd minute a quick break saw Pett feed the ball out wide to Seale, who ran on to put over a cross which found Sekyere with a header that went wide.

There was still only a single goal in it as the game went into stoppage time, which made for a very tense finish. There was a heart-stopping moment when Omar Rowe had a shooting chance from the edge of the box, but North pulled off a great save to keep it out, and eventually the referee blew for time and Leverstock had their three points.

Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green 1 VS Biggleswade FC 1 Leverstock Green were within sight of another precious win, but again they were unable to hold onto the lead they had held for much of the game against Biggleswade F.C., having to settle for their tenth draw of the season in the Southern League Division One Central.

There were a number of changes from the midweek defeat at Kings Langley, with starts in the back four for youngsters Lucas Georgiou and Oliwier Fusiek, and Ryan North playing his second game of the season in place of the injured Reuben Rabstein. After a quiet start to the game, Leverstock went close in the 22nd minute when Georgiou delivered a great cross which found the head of Guiseppe Delgaudio, but his glancing touch wasn’t enough to divert the ball inside the post.

Five minutes later a superb pass from Dan Pett allowed Luke Beckwith to run through the middle of the Biggleswade defence, and go clean through. Visiting keeper Jasper Briggs slipped as Beckwith approached, allowing Beckwith to go round him and slot into the empty net to put Leverstock into a 1-0 lead.

The visitors had a chance to equalise in the 38th minute with Luke Oswick having a clear shooting chance, but North did very well to keep out Oswick’s shot with his legs and Leverstock held their slender lead until the break.

Leverstock had a chance to extend their lead in the 50th minute when a pass from Pett gave Ademide Baruwa a run at goal, but Baruwa’s attempted square ball to Delgaudio was cut out by a defender. Three minutes later there was a golden opportunity for Biggleswade to equalise when Fusiek was adjudged to have brought down an opponent inside the box and a penalty was awarded. Dan Bond stepped up to take it, but it wasn’t the best penalty and North pulled off the save to keep Leverstock in front.

North saved again in the 61st minute, turning a header from Lawrie Marsh round the post. The pressure from the visitors was building up, though, and in the 78th minute Biggleswade won two corners in quick succession. From the second of those Dan Carey-Evans got up highest to head the ball past North for the equaliser.

The best chance Leverstock had to go back in front came in the 84th minute when Rawn Seale set up a clear shooting opportunity for Kyle Connolly, but his effort went wide. The win wasn’t to be, but Leverstock held out to claim another point.

Alan Lee Reporting Dunstable Town U18 4 VS Leverstock Green U18 1 Leverstock Green’s under-18s were beaten 4-1 at Dunstable Town on Thursday night in the SCFYL Delphian Division.

After the hosts had taken a two goal lead, George Eldridge pulled a goal back, but it was 3-1 at half time and Dunstable added a further goal in the second half.

Alan Lee Reporting Leighton Town 0 VS Leverstock Green 0 Leverstock Green continue to make progress a point at a time in the Southern League Division One Central. Saturday’s goalless draw at Leighton Town was their fourth draw in the last six games, and their 11th overall in 26 league games. This was a well-earned point, with a determined and disciplined team performance throughout, and for the second game running goalkeeper Ryan North earned the MOM award for a series of superb saves that kept his side in the game.

Leverstock are still suffering an injury crisis, with several key players missing, but there was a return to the side today for Jamie Breen, who gave an impressive display down the left and caused a lot of problems for the Leighton defence before being withdrawn after an hour.

North had to make his first save just ten seconds into the game, going down low to block a shot on the goalline. There was a good chance for Leighton in the 19th minute when Godlove Oppong was put through, but hit his shot across goal and wide. There was a flurry of chances towards the end of the first half. In the 35th minute Ademide Baruwa got on the end of a cross from Luke Beckwith but couldn’t keep his header on target. Two minutes later Leighton had a corner, and Tolu Ikuyinminu hit the near post direct from the corner. There was another chance for Baruwa in the 38th minute was a pass from Kyle Connolly put him through, but his shot went into the side netting.

In the 42nd minute there was another good chance for Leighton when a cross found Charlie Pattison at the far post, but he headed wide. Leverstock had their best chance of the game in the last minute of the half. Neither Lucas Georgiou nor Kyle Connolly were able to get a shot away from a good

position inside the box, but the ball went back to Dan Pett, whose shot towards the top corner veered away at the last moment and skimmed the outside of the post.

Leighton were on top for most of the second half, but again the Leverstock side showed great resiliance to keep them out. North made a brilliant save to turn away a header from Kyal Williams in the 51st minute, and kept out a shot from Williams a minute later. In the 70th minute a poor kick from North went straight to Samuel King, who had a run at goal but North redeemed himself by keeping out King’s shot. Two minutes later North saved again to turn away a free kick from Williams. In the 79th minute Marcus Warren headed off the line from a Leighton corner.

Leighton piled on the pressure over the closing minutes with a series of corners, even hitting the bar at one point, but they could not put the ball in the net and the Leverstock side held out to claim a point.

Alan Lee Reporting Real Bedford 3 VS Leverstock Green 1 Leverstock Green put up a spirited display against league leaders Real Bedford, but eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat. Fergus Moore’s side is still plagued by injuries, with Nat Connolly having joined the injured list at the end of Tuesday’s game against Hertford. Mayar Hajousman was drafted into the side on a dual registration with Colney Heath, and Jose Costa stepped up from the reserves to a place on the bench, while Luke Beckwith returned to the bench after a long injury lay-off.

The first half saw very little in the way of notable action, with Leverstock’s disciplined shape keeping the prolific Real Bedford forward line in check, while also getting little change out of the home defence. However, in the 32nd minute a neat passing move put Joey Evans clean through to score the goal for Real Bedford which separated the sides at half time.

The second half was similarly tight, but on the hour mark Leverstock finally made a breakthrough. After a Kyle Connolly corner had been headed away, the ball went back to Connolly, and this time his cross was met by Ryan Carruthers with a glancing header that levelled the scores at 1-1.

However, the scores were only level for three minutes, as Isaac Galliford was allowed too much space in the Leverstock box to turn and lash home a shot to put Real Bedford back in front at 2-1.

There were further injury problems for Leverstock in the 75th minute as keeper Reuben Rabstein came out of his area to make a challenge.

Rabstein was injured in the challenge and received a yellow card.

Despite being in obvious discomfort Rabstein completed the game, and indeed pulled off a superb save in the 82nd minute to prevent a third goal.

Leverstock were still in the game until the 85th minute, when they were swiftly punished for giving the ball away on the halfway line, as Real Bedford broke quickly and Josh Setchell shot home to make it 31 to the home side and seal the points.

Fortunately for Leverstock, all the other teams in the bottom five were beaten as well, so they haven’t lost any ground, but they still need to start picking up points very soon. On Tuesday night they travel to Kings Langley for a local derby, with the injured Rabstein unlikely to feature.

Alan Lee Reporting Kings Langely 4 VS Leverstock Green 0 Leverstock Green’s relegation worries deepened as they crashed to a 4-0 defeat in a local derby at Kings Langley, the first time the two sides had met in a decade. Two goals either side of half time killed off Leverstock’s hopes in a game where they struggled to create any meaningful efforts at goal.

The home side took the lead in the 15th minute with a goal that had an element of controversy.

Leverstock keeper Frankie Beckles went up to claim the ball but lost it under a challenge from Jonathan Lawson that on another day could have been given as a foul against the keeper, but the referee played on and Bentley Assiedu slotted home the loose ball.

Leverstock had some promising moments around the Langley box, but too often there was a reluctance to shoot. Their best chance fell to Lewis Collins, who headed straight at the keeper from a good position.

As the game moved towards half time Leverstock were still in it, but in stoppage time a cross from Assiedu found Lawson in front of goal with a free header to make it 2-0.

That gave Leverstock a mountain to climb in the second half, and little over a minute into the second half it became an even bigger mountain when a ball down the middle put Henry Burt clean through to score the third goal.

Again Leverstock had plenty of the ball around the opposition box, but failed to trouble former Green keeper Adi Connolly in the Langley goal. Assiedu scored a fourth goal from a narrow angle in the 76th minute to put the icing on a big win for the home side.

Alan Lee Reporting Enfield 1 Vs Leverstock Green 4 Leverstock Green gave their survival hopes a big boost as they came from behind to record a convincing 4-1 win away to Enfield, only their third win so far in the Southern League Division One Central.

The day before the game the Leverstock squad was strengthened by the loan signing of Jeffrey Sekyere from Wealdstone, and the 21 year old striker made a big impression on his debut with a goal and two assists.

Leverstock started the game strongly. In the 6th minute Jamie Breen made a mazy run into the Enfield half and exchanged passes with Kyle Connolly to go through on goal, but his shot was well saved by home keeper George Edgeworth, who also saved the follow-up effort from Rawn Seale. In the 15th minute Sekyere had his first sight of goal when a pass from Marcus Warren put him through, but Edgeworth saved again.

Enfield didn’t get going until half an hour into the game, and Ryan North had to pull off two quick saves in succession to keep the scores level. Sekyere was denied again

by Edgeworth in the 36th minute, but two minutes later it was Enfield who took the lead somewhat against the run of play, as Kieran Southgate shot home in a scramble following a corner.

Just before half time a bad tackle on Breen saw him leave the game injured, replaced

by Rio Beach, making a welcome return to the side after a long injury layoff.

Leverstock continued to impress in the second half, and they got their deserved equaliser in the 59th minute as a pass from Kyle Connolly put Warren through on goal to calmly slot the ball past Edgeworth. Within two minutes the turnaround was complete. Sekyere won the ball from a defender in the box and squared for Luke Beckwith, who had a defender in front of him but worked the space to get in a shot past Edgeworth and put Leverstock 2-1 up.

The game blew up in the 77th minute. Dan Pett received a yellow card for a heavy challenge on Enfield defender Luke Clark, which saw Clark eventually stretchered off, but the reaction of goalkeeper Edgeworth, who came out of his goal and threw Pett to the ground, earned him a straight red card. After a lengthy stoppage for the treatment to Clark, the game restarted with Enfield down to ten men and defender Joni Vukaj taking over in goal.

Leverstock kept their heads, continued to push forward, and eventually added further goals to cement their win. In the 86th minute Kyle Connolly got his second assist, threading a pass to Sekyere, who neatly slotted past Vukaj for the third goal. Connolly should have scored himself two minutes later when clean through, but Vukaj saved with his legs. Seale also missed a chance in stoppage time, shooting over the bar from Sekyere’s pass, but the fourth goal eventually arrived when Sekyere put Beckwith through to score his second of the game.

With Kidlington and Northwood both dropping points, the win moves Leverstock to within two points of safety, but they still have a lot of work to do, starting with a home match against playoff-chasing Hadley on Tuesday night.

Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green 0 VS Hadley 1 Leverstock Green were unable to follow up Saturday’s win at Enfield as they fell to a narrow home defeat to Hadley in a frustrating game of few chances.

Leverstock made a good start to the game and had some early chances, but neither Luke Beckwith nor Rawn Seale could get their efforts from close range on target in the opening two minutes of the game. In the 10th minute Jeffrey Sekyere had a run at goal and was brought down just outside the box. Kyle Connolly’s free kick brought a good save out of the Hadley keeper, and Beckwith’s effort from the rebound went across goal.

Solomon Sambou had Hadley’s first chance of the game in the 20th minute, but his shot went across goal and wide. Four minutes later Sekyere hit a fierce shot from the edge of the box which went just wide. Five minutes before the break Ryan North made a good save at his far post to keep the scores level at the break.

The second half saw fewer chances than the first. Early in the half Hadley had a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the box, but Finley Aldridge’s shot was comfortably saved by North. The deadlock was eventuall broken in the 72nd minute. Leverstock were unable to clear the ball out of their box following a corner, and former Leverstock player Richard Ennin pounced to shoot home from six yards just five minutes after coming off the bench.

Leverstock rarely looked like getting back into the game, as the Hadley defence kept their front line in check, with Sekyere unable to make the same kind of impact he had made on Saturday.

With Northwood also losing tonight, Leverstock remain two points from safety with eight games left to play.

Alan Lee Reporting Leverstock Green 3 Vs Kings Langley 0 Leverstock Green boosted their survival hopes with a convincing win over neighbours Kings Langley in front of a season’s best crowd of 273 at the Lords Builders Merchants Stadium on Saturday.

All the goals were scored in the first half, as Leverstock capitalised on a strong start to the game. They could have gone ahead in the 3rd minute when a low free kick from Kyle Connolly was kept out by a full-length dive from former Leverstock keeper Adi Connolly in the Kings Langley goal, but they only had to wait another two minutes to take the lead. A corner from the right by Kyle Connolly was met with a thumping header from Rawn Seale to open the scoring.

The visitors went close to an equaliser in the 15th minute when a free kick from Bradley Smith hit the side netting. However, it was Leverstock who struck next with an almost carbon copy of the first goal in the 26th minute.

This time it was Dan Pett swinging in a corner from the left, but again Seale came in to meet it with another emphatic header for his second goal.

Seven minutes later it was 3-0 as a back pass from Declan Phillips was intercepted by Jeffrey Sekyere, who ran on to slot the ball past Connolly and in off the post.

The second half saw the visitors offer more of an attacking threat. They went close to pulling a goal back in the 55th minute when a shot from Edu Toiny-Pendred was parried away by Ryan North. Smith looked certain to score from the rebound but Nat Connolly kept his shot out with a brilliant goalline clearance.

In the 60th minute Sekyere looked set to score his second as he ran onto a

pass from Kyle Connolly and nodded the ball past Adi Connolly, but Connolly then pulled him down, giving the referee no option but to show a straight red card. Kings Langley had a sub keeper on the bench but they were now down to ten men.

Sekyere should have scored again three minutes later when Kyle Connolly set him up with a sitter, but he shot over the bar from close range, while two minutes later at the other end Smith was unlucky again as he hit the bar with a shot. Sub keeper Archie Horsman did well to deny Keanu Fleming from adding a goal just after coming off the bench in the 72nd minute, while North preserved his clean sheet by saving well from the clean through Benjamin Kakembo five minutes later.

Five minutes from time Radu-Mihai Stefanoaica came off the Leverstock bench for his first appearance after five months of injury problems.

Stefanoaica had four good chances in the remaining minutes but his aim was a little off as none of his efforts were on target. However, his return to action is another promising sign for a Leverstock side that is still two points away from safety with seven games to play.

Alan Lee Reporting Flackwell Heath 3 VS Leverstock Green 1 Leverstock Green made a bright start in their visit to playoff-chasing Flackwell Heath on Saturday, but an early red card made the game much tougher and eventually the home side came through to beat Leverstock’s ten men.

There were a few key players missing from the Leverstock side, including Jeffrey Sekyere, who had been recalled by Wealdstone, but deadline day signings Tomasz Siemienczuk and Aaron Burton were both in the starting lineup.

It was Burton, signed on work experience from Watford, who got Leverstock off to a great start with a goal on his debut in the 4th minute. After Dan Pett’s free kick into the box was not cleared, Burton hit a shot from the edge of the box which took a deflection and looped over the keeper into the net.

However, four minutes later Leverstock’s ranks were reduced. Wiktor Makowski took advantage of a short goal kick to go through on goal. Ademide Baruwa’s challenge from behind brought Makowski down just outside the box, and although there were possibly two covering defenders, Baruwa was shown a red card.

Leverstock could have had a penalty shortly afterwards when Siemienczuk appeared to be fouled in the box, but the referee gave a free kick the other way. Leverstock defended well to maintain their lead until the 30th minute, when Jack Shakespeare hit a fierce shot from outside the box which gave Ryan North no chance and levelled the scores.

Flackwell could have gone in front three minutes before the break when Edward Lee was through on goal, but his shot hit the post and the rebound went straight into North’s hands.

The scores were level going into the second half, but two early goals put the home side in the driving seat. In the 50th minute a cross to the far post found Lewis Patrick all alone to shoot Flackwell into the lead, and three minutes later Patrick found the net again, cutting in from the bye-line to hit a shot from a narrow angle which looped over North.

Leverstock had another penalty appeal for a clear handball turned down later in the half, but they were unable to create any chances to get back into the game, while some last-ditch interventions at the other end prevented Flackwell from adding to their score.

Leverstock now face Northwood at home in a crucial game on Tuesday night, with the three clubs competing for the one place of safety now separated by three points after today’s results.
