m Fro Ed... the This month it’s a triple-whammy celebration. It starts off with Mother’s Day on Sunday March 6th. Since a little girl I’ve always said that my mummy is the best mummy in the whole wide world. And I still do think that (really mum!), although maybe I can hold equal position now that I’m a mummy too. Of course Kami is also a fab mummy to Charli and Leoni, so I’m thinking that perhaps all mummies are the best in the world, to their children! Take advantage of Mother’s Day by showing your mum how much you love her. Maybe take her out for a nice lunch and present her with a bouquet of her favourite flowers? Because beginning with the nine months of pregnancy, I now see more than ever before how downright special all mothers are :) Next up, on March 17th, it’s St Patrick’s Day – any excuse for a good booze up, this is the day to don your green clothes and visit your local for a pint (or more) of Guinness. And last but by no means least (especially as there’s chocolate involved – yet not forgetting the true meaning of the day, of course), it’s Easter Sunday on March 27th. Especially fun if you have kiddies as you can set up an amazing Easter egg hunt. So there you have it for a fun-packed February!

Treasure Trove London transport bosses have opened the doors of their vast lost property office - revealing a weird and wonderful world of missing items. A prosthetic leg, drum kits and an urn containing ashes were stored last year - as Transport for London received a record haul of more than 300,000 lost items. The three-storey building next to Baker Street station contains thousands of phones, wallets and umbrellas alongside more bizarre offerings, and has been described as a "wonder emporium" by manager Paul Cowan. Last year 22% of 302,714 items handed in were returned to their rightful owners – including the urn, which had been held for almost seven years, and a brown envelope containing £15,000. Mr Cowan said: "The number of properties lost is fascinating, every day we're getting well over 1,200 items of property found across the network, it's staggering. "Every item that comes in here has a definite story behind it. There are the usual suspects – umbrellas, hundreds of books and documents and travel passes – but also things that make you scratch your head. "We've had urns of ashes come through, bundles of notes, we've got enough musical instruments, guitars and trumpets and flutes and clarinets, even drum kits to start our own band." Lost property is stored for three months in most cases before being donated to charity, sent to auction or recycled.

Selfie Scare A holidaymaker was rescued by passers-by after falling 30ft down a well as she tried to take a selfie at a tourist spot in India. It happened while the woman - from Austria - was touring the Junagadh fort in the state of Gujarat. Locals who heard her screams made a long rope from their shirts and lowered it down the well. The woman grabbed hold of it and they pulled her to safety. She suffered an injury to her left leg and appeared exhausted. When asked if she wanted anything, she apparently replied: "Water."

De Cotta Law The Junta de Andalucía has now published the new law on short term or holiday rentals of less than two months. The new law will apply to all individual rental properties and not solely to those owners who have three or more properties. The law will come into effect on 12th May 2016. There will be a grace period of one year before inspections commence and sanctions can be imposed on those who have not fulfilled the requirements. The aim is to improve the quality of service in the holiday and rental market with minimum standards for accommodation. Each property owner will have to register their property with the tourist department of the Junta de Andalucía. This will be an online registration and a number will be issued to each owner. This number will have to be displayed when advertising and taking bookings. The law applies to properties in residential areas which are offered to tourists for rental and where the whole property comprises 15 places or, if partially rented, offers up to six places for rental ie. a B&B with three double rooms. The minimum requirements include but are not limited to: • A licence of occupation or similar – Town Halls requirements will vary (contact us for more information). • Complying with technical requirements for construction and residential property. • Ventilation to the outside and window blinds, curtains or similar and suitable furnishings. • Air conditioning and heating and mains services contracts. • To have tourist and leisure information for the local area. • Complaints forms for consumers. • Cleaning services, bedlinen, instructions manuals, contact number to resolve any problems and local community norms and information. • The rental contract for consumers must have certain minimum information. The details of the user must be supported by an identity docu-

ment and this must be retained for one year from the time of use. Compensation rights and the right to retain deposits must be quoted. • The price per night must include water, electricity, heating, air conditioning, cleaning and bedlinen, towels etc. It will be obligatory to register with the Tourist registry of Andalucía before publishing any marketing for the property and taking rental bookings after 12th May 2016. There will be a Declaration for the owner to complete identifying the property, the catastral reference and the licence of occupation or similar and the identity of any company or individual who is carrying out the business on behalf of the owner. Once the registration number has been received this must be included in the publicity and contract. For more information on our Rental property services contact us on or call on 952 527014

Cool For Cats Cat forced to wear sunglasses 24-7 due to rare eye condition A cat born without eyelids has become an internet sensation - after her medical condition means she has to wear sunglasses . Two-year-old grey moggy Bagel - known to her thousands of fans as Sunglass Cat - is unable to develop tears and requires eye drops several times a day. She is also unable to regulate her body temperature, which means she sometimes has to wear clothes. All of which of course makes her one of the coolest-looking cats around - and now Bagel has become a social media celebrity thanks to pictures posted on Instagram by her owner Karen McGill. Karen, 48, made the decision to give Bagel

sunglasses after her vet said it would protect her sensitive eyes. Having the sunglasses which are lined with stick-on jewels - helps stop debris from going in Bagel's eyes, which could damage her cornea and lead to blindness. Bagel has now grown used to the eyewear, associating wearing them with comfort and protection. Every once in a while she will remove the eyewear to allow her to wash, but when out in public, she usually keeps them on, drawing a lot of attention. Karen, from Los Angeles, said: "Bagel is the most loving, gentle, calmest, kindest cat that you'll ever meet. "They want to stop and talk to me about her sunglasses which I always do since it's so rare to see a cat in glasses, and I tell them why she's wearing them as well as her condition. "People are always amazed at how calm she is “She has touched so many people as well as helped numerous people through situations in their lives.

Teenagers A Teenager is... A person who can't remember to walk the dog but never forgets a phone number. A weight watcher who goes on a diet by giving up candy bars before breakfast. A youngster who receives his/her allowance on Monday, spends it on Tuesday, and borrows from his/her best friend on Wednesday. Someone who can hear a song by Madonna played three blocks away but not his mother calling from the next room.

An enthusiast who has the energy to ride a bike for miles, but is usually too tired to dry the dishes. A connoisseur of two kinds of fine music: Loud and Very Loud. A young woman who loves the cat and tolerates her brother. A person who is always late for dinner but always on time for a rock concert. A romantic who never falls in love more than once a week.

A whiz who can operate the latest computer without a lesson but can't make a bed.

A budding beauty who never smiles until her braces come off.

A student who will spend 12 minutes studying for her history exam and 12 hours for her driver's license.

A boy who can sleep until noon on any Saturday when he suspects the lawn needs mowing.

A youngster who is well informed about anything he doesn't have to study.

An original thinker who is positive that her mother was never a teenager.

Asbestos - Have You Been In Contact?

MAkiNg CLAiMS iN ThE Uk – ENSURiNg YOU gET whAT YOU DESERVE We have all seen adverts from solicitors saying that they will deal with claims on a no win no fee basis but what does this really mean? In recent years solicitors have been permitted to agree with their client to take a share of any money awarded in a successful personal injury claim. Consequently even though an advert may say “genuine no win no fee” clients may find that they have agreed to pay their solicitor up to 25% of any damages obtained. I do not do this because I believe that my clients should receive whatever compensation I can obtain for them in full. So if you are making a claim in the UK you should be clear what you are signing up for. The solicitor should explain fully the circumstances in which a client signs away part of the damages. If you are concerned about this, even if you have already settled a claim, please get in touch. I deal with any kind of personal injury claim but I specialise in claims for asbestos. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with an asbestos related condition or has breathing problems and has come into contact with asbestos in the UK you may be able to claim damages or benefits in the UK. Even if you are not sure of the name of the company you were working for and even if it is not trading it may still be possible to bring a claim.

There are time limits for bringing claims so if you have been injured in the UK and are not sure what to do I urge you to get in touch as soon as possible. As indicated in my advert no deductions are made for costs from any award of damages. I am happy to talk to anyone free of charge about their individual situation to see if a claim is possible. i can be contacted on 00 44 1244 340560 at or alternatively you can visit my website at

interesting Facts - The Ivory Coast, also known as Cote d’Ivoire was a French colony until 1960. It was a peaceful and prosperous country for over 40 years thereafter and was hailed as a model of stability, all that changed in 2002 was when it fell into civil war. The trade in ivory which gave the country its name had almost died out by the 18th century. The Ivory Coast produces over 30% of the world’s Cocoa beans and is famous for its chocolate. The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in The Ivory Coast capital of Yamoussoukro is the largest church building in the world covering 323,000 sqft. Ivory Coast has only ever won one Olympic medal: a silver in the men’s 400 metres in 1984. Côte d’Ivoire (which is the country’s preferred name for itself) is an anagram of “erotic video”.

Is probably best known for being home to the noble Galvez family, who completely uplifted the village and the lives of the people who lived there in the 18th century by bringing prosperity to a small town struggling to survive. Joseph Gálvez, who was a doctor became the patron and mayor of Málaga and his statue can be seen in the gardens of the Cathedral. Due to this family the royal factory of playing cards (Fábrica de Naipes) was built in 1766. Following a royal warrant issued by King Charles III the factory was granted the monopoly to trade with the Americas and supplied the whole of the Spanish Indies, producing 30,000 decks a year. These cards were made using paper manufactured in Arroyo de la Miel and were the most expensive in Spain. The knock on effect of this trading raised the living standards in the village, the streets were paved, water was brought in and three public fountains were built, there was an open air theatre, a washhouse and a road built to connect Macharaviaya to Málaga. The older inhabitants of the village started to call it Little Madrid! Today the village shop is called El Pequeño Madrid and sells everything from ceramics to Los Gálvez olive oil. It is impossible to visit the village without notic-

ing the references to the Gálvez family. Another important family member, Miguel Gálvez, became Spanish embassador in Russia and introduced Catherine the Great to the sweet wine produced from the Axarquia´s muscatel grapes, she enjoyed it so much that it became a common feature at her banquets and she approved its exportation to Russia, before long it became popular in all the Royal Courts in Europe. The church of San Jacinto was erected by the archbishop of Seville, Diego de Deza in 1505, shortly after the conquest of Axarquia by the Catholic Monarchs. Neo-Classical elements were added to its original Baroque style in the 17th and 18th centuries. Sadly by the end of 1990 it was almost a ruin however it was renovated completely in 1992 and is now retained by the town hall. Underneath is the cementery garden and mausoleum crypt of the Gálvez family which holds the remains of José de Gálvez in a magnificent tomb. In August every year, during its Cultural Week, the village hosts a festival honouring the patron saint of the village, Bernado. There are exhibitions, musical and dancing performances, cultural events and competitions, traditional verdiales, classical music in the church and street processions. It is picture postcard in its attractiveness, with cobbled streets, houses with wooden blinds hanging over balconies providing shade for the occupants one never sees and a feeling of history so vivid that each new turn provides a flash back to a life never forgotten. Meander, take your time and enjoy this historic place that is Macharaviaya.

Linea Directa hOw TO NEgOTiATE ROUNDABOUTS if you are unsure about the correct way to negotiate roundabouts, here are some simple rules to help you enter and exit roundabouts safely and in the right lane. APPROAChiNg ROUNDABOUTS It’s important to remember to give way to traffic already on the roundabout. If the roundabout is outside urban areas of towns or cities, keep right. If the roundabout is in a built-up area inside a town or city and the lanes are clearly marked, you should use the lane that best corresponds to the exit you need to take. LEAViNg ROUNDABOUTS This causes the most confusion amongst drivers. Which lane to choose? Why do I get beeped at if I’m in the right lane? Drivers must exit roundabouts from the right hand lane, because the only way to leave the roundabout is by turning right. This doesn’t mean we always have to enter the roundabout from the right hand lane. It depends on the exit we need to take. However this simple rule, in practice, can be more complex. Let us see some examples.

1st EXiT RighT Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate and exit roundabout. CONTiNUiNg STRAighT ON (e.g. 2nd EXiT STRAighT AhEAD) Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate prior to exit and leave roundabout. TURNiNg LEFT OR ChANgiNg DiRECTiON (e.g. 3rd OR FiNAL EXiT) Enter roundabout keeping to left hand side lane. Stay in lane until you have passed the exit before your turn off, then change lane by indicating right and giving other road users sufficient time to anticipate your manoeuvre. Don’t forget that drivers circulating in the outside lanes have priority, so use your mirrors to ensure you are not blocking them as you change lanes. we hope the information provided in this article is of interest. if you would like to contact Línea Directa please call 902 123 165 More information on Línea Directa online at

Snowball’s Chance In Hell What are a snowball's actual chances in hell? This experiment throws up some surprising results When something has very little chance of happening, some people call it "a snowball's chance in Hell." But then, nobody has ever actually tried to put a snowball into the underworld until now. Digital software giants General Electric decided to test the theory with an elaborate experiment as part of its Unimpossible Missions series. A group of the company's scientists devised a way they believed would keep a snowball safe from 2,000 degree molten steel - as close to the biblical conditions of hell they could find. Visiting an old foundry, the scientists drew on technology from the power, aviation and

healthcare industries to develop a container made from a super alloy that can withstand extreme high temperatures and is usually used to build jet engines. The snowball is then removed from a liquid nitrogen-filled case and placed in a specially designed, 3D printed holder and placed in the alloy container. They then chain it up and place the whole thing into a vat of molten metal slag. Pulling the burning container out again, the scientists unchain the vessel and open the container - to reveal the snowball still perfectly intact. So the next time somebody tells you there's as much chance of something happening as Hell freezing over, perhaps it's not as far fetched as first thought.

Thoughts Of Oana Mothers’ Day is very important to me as I've never celebrated it with my mum; my parents were divorced when I was three years old. So this year, I decided to make it just ‘me and my mum’ so I bought her a plane ticket and am waiting for the day to arrive. In Romania we celebrate Mothers’ Day on 8th of March but talking to my English friends, I realised that in England, it is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, 3 weeks before Easter Sunday. In Spain it is different again, being celebrated on the first Sunday of May. It is such a good day to make the most important person in your life feel special. Maybe sometimes we have our bad days and think that no-one is close to us, but do you try to call your mum when you feel like that? She is there for you at every step; maybe you can't see it, but she is there looking out for you.

Some of my friends lost their mothers before they realised how important a mother’s shoulder is to cry on, or cuddle when they need it. They have always told me to take care of my mum, as you never know when you won't have one anymore. Mine suffered a stroke when I was a year old, and she was in a coma for four days. I only discovered this when she came home afterwards. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to live without your mum – your best friend. Even though 300km separated us, we were on the phone every day, and still are. She fought for her life, and also mine and my brother’s. I know my first scream made you happy, mum – for the rest of my shouting, forgive me. Happy Mothers’ Day x Trambitasu Oana Maria

Moving House Moving house is always stressful. You rarely hear anyone say that they enjoyed the process. Last month we moved, and it was the most almighty change of abode I have ever experienced! I loved our rental house with its funny quirks. Somehow we took it in our stride – living with no hot water in the kitchen, windows that wouldn't shut properly, the faulty boiler and so many other things that were constantly wrong. We loved it for its space, the terraces, the pretty Plaza with its fountain and the neighbours. I loved it because it was where I learned to be a single parent, and for all the happy times we had within its protective walls. The house was going up for sale so we decided to move, and although that decision was so easy, the move was not.

Another thing I learned with this move is the luck of having good friends and family – the kind neighbours who have helped us with offers of a dumper truck, quad or just a spare pair of hands. A community still lives on in our little village and we feel blessed. So as I begin my 14th year in Spain I am back where I started. We have moved into the first home we had when we came over here. It has had some building work done to it but it looks more or less the same. Maybe that is why I have fallen in love so quickly, why making friends with the kitchen happened so easily and why I slept so well from night one. We have come home and I can honestly say in our case, home is where the heart is and our hearts are full of love for our new casa. By Laura Campbell from Sedella

I am still to find an internet company that can get a signal at our new place and we are surrounded by boxes and large blue bags. The painting and cleaning have been huge jobs and we have still a long way to go to finish making our new home. The "stuff" we have accumulated is insane – and my local charity shop has at least 12 bags of it now! But our new home is lovely. It has thick village house walls, old character, hot water galore and windows that don't howl and bang in the wind. I am in love with it. As I type this post on my mobile phone and wrestle with a temperamental automatic spellcheck (it reminds me of a very drunk bilingual dictionary) I can finally see that the worst is over and we shall be settled soon. The tradesmen have been more or less on time, the internet... well we will see about that, and the TV guy would be taking his life in his hands if he went on the roof in the winds we are enduring just now. I stood in my new kitchen a couple of nights ago and amongst the chaos, I made lentil and vegetable soup, taking my time to cut up loads of different vegetables; slowly adding them, tasting, stirring and in a funny way that pot of soup made our new house a home. The kitchen smelled of good food rather than paint. I got to know the cooker and we made friends. We saw we got on and I could imagine many other evenings cooking happily in that kitchen. We made plans.

Shockwaves Through Holiday Lets In Andalucia New government controls over the management of ‘tourist’ or ‘holiday’ rentals came into effect on 11 February 2016 Previously, there was considerable freedom for property owners to decide the terms of these rentals. But after hotel owners lobbied the Junta de Andalucia on the basis that they were subject to much greater controls, and were therefore at a disadvantage, things have now changed. According to the new decree, it is obligatory to register the property in the Registry of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía. This decree also establishes detailed rules for booking, price, cancellations, information which should be given to customers and the maximum number of vacancies. It also indicates the minimum levels of

quality and comfort that these properties should meet. Failure to comply with the decree will be punished according to the rules established in the Act of Tourism of Andalucía, and could mean fines of up to 150,000 euros and closure of the activity. Owners who are involved in – or are considering involvement in – this activity should check their position. Mª Ángeles Martín Conejo. Solicitor. g n i z fe a i m L A ine fish g Mar Lun Our oceans are full of fascinating fish – and the lungfish is no exception; its main claim to fame is that it can live out of water for several years! The lungfish secretes a mucus cocoon and burrows itself under the unbaked earth. It takes in air with its lung through a built-in breathing tube that leads to the surface. A lungfish has both gills and a lung (swim bladder). Lungfish is a common name. Any fish that belongs to the families Lepidosirenidae and Ceratodontidae can be called lungfish.

692 300 396

The lungfish is pretty widely distributed and can be found in three different continents – Africa, Australia and South America. It has actually evolved from four-footed land animals. Several fossils of lungfish have been found in India, Europe and United States. According to, the most primitive lungfish to exist today is an Australian species that is around 150cm long (around 5ft). It has a single lung (other known species that thrive today have two lungs) and its short stumps are paired fins. The species is known for its stout body. They can live for a long time, with one Australian lungfish surviving for 80 years in captivity.

La Vaqueria - Benamargosa Not a very wet February in Benamargosa or on a lot of the Costa del Sol for that matter. As our friends and families start making their plans to visit looking forward to hot sunny days this spring, I am praying for rain. A visit to the lake at La Vinuela a couple of weeks back was a big appears to be almost empty! Of course it has been low before but considering it was so full a couple of winter’s back that the plug had to be pulled it is frightening at how quickly the level has dropped. Where is all of this water going? Some people have suggested that the rise in the number of people living in the area could be to blame? Everybody these days have washing machines, baths and dishwashers all with a higher water consumption than the old "doing it by hand" method. In and around Benamargosa (home to La Vaqueria) we now have 10's of 1000's of mangoes with more being planted every year. Although these trees require less water than an avocado, they are certainly going to need watering, where as the almonds which previously covered our upper slopes did not. Unless March is very, very wet we can probably look forward to some water shortages this Summer I would think. We could all probably

help the situation by trying to be a little more conservative with our water wastage.....If you enjoy a bath rather than a shower why not use the water for watering? Balcony pots and the garden will not die off from that little soap, even washing up water is fine for trees and shrubs...a little soap will filter out. Do not use your dishwasher unless it is completely full and how about a little hand washing this Summer? Swimwear, smalls and summer dresses are easily rinsed out and again, the rinse water is fine for the plants. At La Vaqueria our big avocado trees and the banana palm all flourish on the washing machine water complete with detergents and the vegetable garden is fine with the washing up water, so it really need not be as hard as you think to save water. There are lots more ideas on the internet and plenty of information about catching and saving water if you are lucky enough to have a finca or villa, also I am here in the shop every day very willing to discuss ideas and hear your ideas so that we can all do "our bit" to help this year. Opening hours and contact details...see main advert on page 96. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Loch Ness? Has the Loch Ness monster been spotted on a flooded racecourse after the recent storms? Horse racing fans are perplexed as to what is causing the water to spontaneously burst several feet into the air, with some suggesting Nessie herself has found a new home. Strange geyser-like eruptions have been recorded across the historic course, with several videos of the bizarre phenomenon. Some people believe a seal or a porpoise has made its home there, while others suggest its simply a drainage issue. But others joking told Worcester News they believed it was the Loch Ness Monster. If it does turn out to be Nessie, she's lost a lot of weight. As the pictures show, the water is not deep enough to submerge a bench, let alone a pre-historic plesiosarus.

Helping Axarquia Monthly Update

New compensation schemes for traffic accident victims From 1st January 2016, the basis of evaluating compensation for victims of traffic accidents was modified. There are three categories under the new rules: new family models, the consideration of the housewife figure and insurance companies which should pay the long-term medical expenses of victims of traffic accidents.

The compensation system will be divided into five family groups, composed of the spouse and the children they have – including common-law couples, spouses and prior children – parents, siblings and immediate family members. Another major change is that traffic accident victims may receive compensation in the form of a life annuity instead of a single payment. Ground force THE UK’s favourite TV builder Tommy Walsh was locked in a cell overnight after taking on two men who were peeing on his neighbour's garden. In the biggest Ground Force scandal since Charlie Dimmock put on a bra, Tommy clashed with the "immoral" pair in a brawl that ended with one of the urinators being taken to hospital. The 58-year-old now faces charges of actual bodily harm after getting involved in the fracas on the way home from a London pub. Tommy told The Sun: "I saw them as I was coming home and I said, that’s bang out of order. It’s disgusting. My neighbour’s kids play in that garden.” A Met police spokesman confirmed the brawl and Tommy's arrest, saying: "He has been bailed to a date in mid-March. The investigation continues." Sad Cheryl CHERYL Fernandez-Versini may be going through marriage troubles but at least one X Factor pal has got her back. Ian Royce, the reality show's warm-up man, has sensationally hit out at her hubbie, JeanBernard, branding him "a fame-hungry abuser" — and saying he wished he had knocked him out. The Geordie babe is said to “deeply regret” not drawing up a pre-nup before her 17-month marriage to the Frenchman and has reportedly advised Girls Aloud pal Kimberley Walsh to get one. Ian, furious at the treatment of "his Chezza" took to Twitter, saying: "Not a nice man. "Abusive, fame hungry and I wish I’d knocked him out backstage but I stayed loyal to @cherylofficial and took the abuse! Cheryl is a kind soul who just keeps getting hurt. Not a

Wines From - Australia : My Choice Australia has several climates, because of the size of the country. Located in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia’s seasons are the reverse of ours. The north of Australia has a tropical climate and the temperate south of the country has warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. A very diverse landscape is found in Australia, with beautiful beaches, very busy cities and coral reefs

Yalumba, founded in 1849, is reputed to be Australia’s oldest family-owned winery, and too, has a commitment to quality. Producing full-bodied reds, superb whites and dessert wines, that most definitely will not disappoint, from varietals such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name just some, this company has an environmental management plan, which looks ahead, ensuring a sustainable business.

Several superb grape varieties are grown in the wine areas and wonderful wines can be located, from Australia, which has more than 60 wine regions. With crisp, fresh, elegant and rich, plus sparkling and sweet wines, I found many excellent ranges, from really great wineries. There are wonderful qualities in the wines from Australia, with some of the wineries having several generations of families working in the trade, for many years.

Australian wines are widely available, with many excellent wineries exporting from Australia to the UK and worldwide. I found the regional wine styles very interesting and some of the wineries’ stories, fascinating. Enjoy! Trevor Langley

The Leeuwin Estate, situated in the Margaret River region of the South West of Western Australia, has an outstanding vineyard, producing superb quality grapes, and winery. Their Art Series, Chardonnay, has been hailed as Australia’s finest example, and the Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay, is another superb production from Leeuwin Estate, which has large plantings of vines. The cool climate, gravel soils, knowledge and expertise, all coming to fruition, in really remarkable wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc are further varietals used to produce a wonderful range of wines, from an outstanding company. De Bortoli Wines, established in 1928, has a philosophy that ‘great wine begins in the vineyard and sustainable vineyard practices will deliver exceptional fruit quality, as well as real environmental benefits’. De Bortoli has something for everyone and every occasion. Superb Chardonnays, Shiraz, Merlots and Moscato, can be found, amongst their range, plus the renowned Botrytis Semillon, Noble One. The sites and seasons showing through, in their productions of some very appealing styles of wines.

If you talk about grapes, most people instantly think of wine… But grapes themselves are loaded with nutrients and provide many of the same health benefits of wine – without the alcohol.

plaques and free radicals, which have been linked to Alzheimer’s disease. So powerful is this important nutrient that it has even been referred to as “Reverse-it-all” by many health practitioners. In numerous studies, resveratrol has had a positive effect on cancer. Research also shows that resveratrol protects the skin from damaging UVB rays of the sun, thereby protecting it against skin cancer. Grapes are also an excellent source of manganese and a good source of vitamin B6, thiamin, potassium, and vitamin C.

Phytonutrients – plant chemicals that contain protective, disease-preventing compounds – are bioactive compounds that are not designated as traditional nutrients, but have been shown to have health benefits in humans. Grapes are loaded with them, particularly in the skin. Resveratrol is a polyphenol antioxidant synthesized by the grape plant for antifungal and defensive properties. Numerous research studies have demonstrated the health benefits of resveratrol. It lowers risk of cardiovascular disease by preventing lipid oxidation and it modulates levels of lipids and lipoproteins in the body. Resveratrol is also a potent antioxidant, which not only reduces oxidation, but also helps to strengthen other antioxidant substances in the body. Exciting research led by MaryAnne DellaFera, PhD at the University of Georgia found that resveratrol (particularly when combined with soy isoflavones) works on the body in two ways to significantly assist with weight loss efforts: 1) it dramatically reduces cells’ ability to store fat by about 130 percent; and 2) causes fat cells to disintegrate at a rate 246 percent higher than normal. In research, resveratrol demonstrated the ability to improve the dilation of blood vessels, which may allow blood to flow more easily through blood vessels. It has also been shown to relax the walls of the blood vessels, making their diameter larger, thereby lowering blood pressure, and allowing a higher volume of blood to flow through all areas of the body, delivering increased oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells. Another study found that just 10 mg of supplementary resveratrol resulted in a dramatic reduction in heart-attack risk factors. Studies at the University of Switzerland proved resveratrol’s brain-protecting ability. They found that resveratrol mopped up brain-damaging

Easter Egg Hunt Ideas Everyone loves a good old Easter Egg Hunt even the adults :)  Easter egg hunt fun idea 1: Colour code the eggs you hide according to age so that means the littlies, or the two - to four-year-olds can hunt for blue eggs, while the older kids go for purple. Or have the boys hunt for green and the girls hunt for yellow. It means little kids have an equal chance to find the eggs while also fostering a co-operative spirit amongst the kids who will try to help the others gather the eggs they aren't entitled to. Easter egg hunt fun idea 2: Add letters to each egg so kids can make words. Buy some alphabet stickers or write a different letter on the outside of each egg. Hey, you could even get crafty enough to paint letters on each egg. Set the kids loose on their egg hunt and then offer extra Easter prizes to the kid who makes the longest word from their egg stash. Easter egg hunt fun idea 3: Keep a record of the eggs. It's worth trying to make a note of how many eggs you've hidden and some of the sneaky spots you managed to stash them. There's nothing worse than finding melted chocolate under the couch cushions a few months later! Easter egg hunt fun idea 4: Set hunt boundaries. To make sure that chocolate-addicted kids don't endanger themselves by climbing on to the garage roof to look for eggs, establish the boundaries of your Easter egg hunt. Tell kids to stay between the house and the first tree, for instance, or to go no further than the driveway. Easter egg hunt fun idea 5: Draw a map.

Keep things interesting by setting up a treasure hunt for kids. Give each child a map using pictures for those who can't read yet. Cut out a picture of a chair, for instance, or draw a coffee table to show them where the eggs are. Then be a bit sneaky by hiding another map at one of the clues. Kids older than 8 or 9 love riddles and wordy clues that get their brain ticking and lead them to more difficult places, such as a specific novel on the book shelf or a certain herb growing in the garden.

People Who Come And Go People Who Come And Go : Liz and Keith, Alcaucin My client featured last month bought a rambling old cortijo in the Montes de Malaga, full of rustic charm and simple living, far from everywhere! But that is not for everyone and Liz and Keith had more comfortable lifestyle expectations – a pristine villa with beautiful, low maintenance gardens and pool – but also a bit of land to ‘play’ with – in Venta Baja, a short walk from faciliites. They became the proud owners of this lovely property just a few weeks ago and have already celebrated their purchase with their closest friends at the house. And why not, when properties are still at such reasonable prices, and many homes include top quality furniture, and often a car! Liz and Keith started their search in Alhaurin but stumbled across beautiful Lake Viñuela, and shortly after, their perfect future retirement home! The house has three double bedrooms and two bathrooms, spacious living room, separate dining room, a stunning kitchen and an incorporated garage, set in a beautiful location with the Maroma looming in the background! “We had our family’s full support in our quest

to make our future in Spain, which will now become a reality later this year” Liz explains with shere excitement! “As our vendor was British, we were able to pay in sterling, which was so simple! And we used our estate agent, Toni, as our sounding board for any questions or issues and made an excellent contact in our local lawyer, Javier.” The great thing about selling properties in Southern Spain is the incredible diversity of people you meet from all over Europe and the world. Everyone is different, and that’s what makes our community so colourful. Welcome, Liz and Keith, to our colourful community! By Toni Waterman, Unspoilt Andalusia (see advertisement below)

) : a h a Jokes h Thanks to MP for the following jokes My wife said she's leaving me over my obsession with Take That. I'm so gutted. Whatever I said, whatever I did, I didn't mean it. ------------------------------------------------------------The in-laws bought me a pair of roller blades from Poundland for my birthday. F****** Cheapskates! ------------------------------------------------------------I always thought my mate Dave was gay, but then I saw him with a really fit blonde a few times. I asked him with a smirk, "Soooo, does the carpet match the drapes?" "No they don't." he said, "And don't even get me started on the rest of her hideous decor." ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy and Murphy are doing a crossword, "I'm stuck on 2 down Murphy: Flightless bird from Iceland (6,7)” Murphy replies "Ya thick idiot that's easy, frozen chicken!! ------------------------------------------------------------I had a central heating engineer round the other day and while he was working away he said, "I see you’re a darts man, like myself." I asked how he worked that out and he replied, "That photo on the fireplace of you and Jocky Wilson.” I replied, "That’s my wife mate." ------------------------------------------------------------The inventor of the world's first organic coffins made entirely out of vegetables has died May he rest in peas. ------------------------------------------------------------It’s winter again and for people on benefits in the UK, the difficult agonising choice between heating, food or a massive new tattoo! ------------------------------------------------------------Burglars broke into my local corner shop last week and stole all the Red Bull. I don't know how they can sleep at night. ------------------------------------------------------------In a hotel room, Jim Morrison & the rest of his band are in one corner and John Lennon, Paul McCartney & Co are in the other corner and

are all naked. Monica Lewinsky walks in and squats seductively in front of Jim Morrison and begins to pleasure him, she then moves onto the guitarist, the drummer then the keyboard player. When she is finished she wanders over to John Lennon and does the same. At that moment there is huge crash and Michael Caine comes through the wall in a Mini Cooper. He jumps out, grabs her buy the scruff of her neck and shouts "Oi, you're only suposed to blow the bloody Doors off!” ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy and Mick are in a car park trying to unlock the door of their car with a coat hanger after Paddy accidentally left the keys on the seat. "I can't seem to get the door open," says Paddy. "Well you better hurry up," says Mick. "It's starting to rain and the roofs down!" ------------------------------------------------------------Clubbers in Leeds have taken to using dental syringes to inject liquid Ecstacy directly into their mouths. This dangerous process is known as 'E by Gum.' ------------------------------------------------------------My mum said "You treat this place like a hotel!" She will regret that when I give her a low score on TripAdvisor for 'rude staff'. ------------------------------------------------------------My wife has left a note on the kitchen table saying that that she's leaving me because of my obsession with online poker. I think she's bluffing, so I'm going to call her. ------------------------------------------------------------I was assaulted last night by some guy who hit me over the head with a power tool. Jokes h a ha :) I got to the till at the motorway services with a sandwich, a can of coke, and bag of crisps. Slightly ashamed, I said to the young lad on the till, "Sorry, I've only got a twenty pound note." He said, "Well sir, you'll need to put those crisps back then." ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy and Mick are on the rollercoaster. “Mick, if we go upside down do you think we will fall out?” ”Don’t be daft Paddy, we’ve been mates for years” ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy asks Murphy, “Why do scuba divers fall backwards off their boat?” Cause if they fell forwards they would still be in the feckin boat!” ------------------------------------------------------------Snow White woke up one morning feeling grumpy, so she turned over and felt happy! ------------------------------------------------------------I told my girlfriend that sex might be more exciting if she got a Brazilian. Now she's buggered off with a guy called Jose!! ------------------------------------------------------------A bus stops and two Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation. The lady sitting behind them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanised when she hears one of the men say the following: "Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more. Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time." "You foul-mouthed sex obsessed swine," retorted the lady indignantly. "In this country we don't speak aloud in public places about our sex lives!” "Hey, coola down lady," said the man. "Who talkin' abouta sexa? I'm a justa tellin' my frienda how to spella 'Mississippi'." ------------------------------------------------------------The local yokel got married and his honeymoon was the first time he'd been off the farm. He'd saved for twenty years for this, so could afford a classy hotel.

Checking in he said "Me and the new WIFE would like to hire your best room for a week" "Certainly sir" replied the receptionist. "Would you like the Bridal"? The yokel looked a bit uncertain, then said "Naw, reckon not, a'll just hang onto her ears 'til a get the hang of it" ------------------------------------------------------------There was a man who had worked all of his life and had saved all of his money. He was a real miser when it came to his money. He loved money more than just about anything, and just before he died, he said to his wife, "Now listen, when I die, I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. I wanna take my money to the afterlife." So he got his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all the money in the casket with him. Well, one day he died. He was stretched out in the casket, the wife was sitting there in black next to her closest friend. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said "Wait just a minute!" she had a shoe box with her, she came over with the box and placed it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down and rolled it away. Her friend said, "I hope you weren't crazy enough to put all that money in the casket." She said, "Yes, I promised. I'm a good christian, I can't lie. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him." "You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?" "I sure did," said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a cheque."
