Sometimes a lovely expat from the Axarquia region emails me and asks how I am doing since leaving Spain for the US. I do my best provide a snapshot of my life in these monthly editorials, but it’s hard to cram everything into a few paragraphs. However, this month I can say it all in just one sentence: “I’m getting married!” That may come as a shock to some of you. Perhaps even more of a shock to learn that my husband-to-be is 38 years older than me. We met when I went on a wilderness trip in Idaho a couple of years back – he facilitated it, so yes ladies, he’s very fit and healthy! Since then, we stayed in touch, visited each other when our schedules allowed, and we quickly developed a beautiful, romantic relationship, where time and space seem to slip away to some mysterious place I didn’t even know existed. This part of my life is teaching me a lot about judgement (how others judge what they don’t understand or accept about themselves) and about the importance of following my heart and being true to myself no matter what disapproval or disagreement I may encounter from others. Also, it has taught me that beyond our physical bodies, we are really all eternal souls and in that sacred space there is no age. That last part might be going a little too deep and mystical for many!

Fortunately, those closest to me understand and have accepted my decision to get married, so that’s nice. And even if they didn’t, that would be their karma and responsibility, not mine. Anyone for a toast?! Our marriage has been set for 11th October this year and we’re planning a small wedding on the roof of the house we’re currently living in.

It will be special and I’m very excited. Right now I’m slap-bang in the middle of the wedding preparations, busy liaising with the caterers, ordering my dress, and arranging pretty, sparkly touches to bring the event to life. I’d appreciate your loving thoughts on the big day… And, guess what…? I’m sensing another book coming on!

Great shot of the cracking work that the Fire Rescue does. Sent in by Mario Reid who was brave enough to get this close!

Strange News A university graduate claims a job interview at Currys turned into "a scene out of The Office" when he was asked to dance to a Daft Punk song. Alan Bacon, 21, claims he was left "humiliated" after being told to dance to Around the World in front of a group of interviewers at the Cardiff branch of the electrical store. "I just felt so embarrassed and uncomfortable," said Mr Bacon. "I ended up dancing to Around the World by Daft Punk, doing rubbish robotics in my suit in front of a group of strangers. "I told my dad it was like a scene out of The Office. I would have walked out but I need a job. "I've been to quite a few job interviews and have never had to do anything like it before." Currys have since apologised and insisted the dance segment of the interview is not part of its official recruitment processes, according to BBC Wales online. Slippery Slope - A giant slide has been installed at the venerable Cliveden stately home while a 350-year-old staircase is repaired. Visitors to the estate near Beaconsfield in Berkshire can use the 21ft-high slide as an alternative route from the south terrace to the formal garden. The repairs are part of a £3.4m restoration project by the National Trust. Renowned for hosting exclusive parties and political gatherings, the estate became linked to the Profumo Affair because it was where war minister John Profumo first met 19-year-old Christine Keeler in 1961 and started a relationship. The estate was once described as a "playground for the rich". Sam Willis from the estate office said: "We wanted to keep that spirit alive." grave digger - A retired JCB driver from south Wales was carried to his funeral in the bucket of his favourite digger. Mourners clapped and cheered as the coffin carrying Billy Jones, 83, was driven to Coychurch Crematorium in the digger he drove for 40 years. Jones had made a last request for his treasured vehicle to take him on his final journey. His daughter Trudi-Ann of Port Talbot, Neath, said: "He loved his work - everyone waved at him in the cab of his JCB. They all knew him as Billy the JCB driver."

Smurfette's (Katy Perry’s) birthday presents the opportunity for her to recall her conflicted origins — rather than a "true-blue" Smurf, she was actually created by the hapless, wannabe evil sorcerer Gargamel (Hank Azaria), who now intends to kidnap her from her enchanted-forest home to obtain the formula for the magical Smurf essence that Papa Smurf (Jonathan Winters) used to originally bestow her with blue-skinned bliss. Once he has the secret, Gargamel plans to power up a host of Naughties, Smurf-sized creatures he's created, to help him take over the world.

So he dispatches his Naughty daughter Vexy (Christina Ricci) to drag Smurfette through a magic portal and into the real world where he can more effectively manipulate her inherent identity issues. Papa Smurf and his mismatched extraction team consisting of Grouchy (George Lopez), Clumsy (Anton Yelchin) and Vanity (John Oliver) will have to portal to the live-action world to reunite in Paris with the sympathetic young family of Patrick (Neil Patrick Harris) and Grace (Jayma Mays) Winslow, their liveaction counterparts from the original movie, if they're to have any chance of rescuing Smurfette. With a primarily impressionable young target audience, the returning screenwriting team has no problem frequently repeating lines, gags and life lessons to near-numbing effect. Beyond a few chuckleworthy one-liners and some amusing visual comedy, sadly there's not much to engage adults. Star Rating **/*****

De Cotta Law FAMILY LAW NEWS By De Cotta Law ChiLDrEN, CUSTODY aND ViSiTS There have been a lot of stories about the increase in child abduction cases between countries where parents live in different countries or have to leave the country they are living in for economic reasons. Sadly the issue of child custody and visits is one that arises in the summer holidays when the parents don´t have an agreement and are living apart. Spanish courts are very strong in protecting the rights of a parent to spend time with their children. Judges generally award every other weekend to the parent who doesn´t live with the child and 4 weeks in the summer, with alternate Christmas and Easter holidays. When advising parents we always stress that while it is preferable to reach agreement privately, if it is necessary to go to court you must expect this type of order to be given. Naturally the majority of parents fully appreciate the need for their children to have time with each parent and also understand that for children routine helps to create stability and reduces the stress of a breakdown in the parent’s relationship. All lawyers now encourage a dialogue between the couple and professional advice and help with reaching a settlement can remove some of the barriers to a private agreement so there is no need for a contentious court proceeding. The agreement should be formalised in the country where the children are living and will deal with maintenance and future arrangements. It is often advisable to put in a clause about the possibility of one of the parents moving to another country and have an agreement to revise the visiting arrangements if that does happen. For example if one parent returns to their home country they may want to have long weekends every month and more time during the holiday period. Older children may be expressing strong views about the future arrangements and the Judges will listen to these views in some cases. How-

ever it is very important that the children are not made to feel they must choose between the parents so again it is better to reach agreement rather than putting any pressure on them to make decisions. Having a good understanding of what is likely to happen in court if the parents can´t reach agreement often helps a couple to settle things between them. Judges do focus on the needs and interests of the children and will be prepared to intervene if they think these are not being met equally. There have now been some decisions on joint custody in Spain and it seems likely this will be extended in the future. For more information about Family Law including divorce, child custody and visitation, or to book a private consultation please contact De Cotta Law. Fiji enjoys a tropical climate and hosts a significant tourism industry, however, since 1987 racial and political tensions have been a steady source of instability and international isolation. In 1987 a coup by indigenous Fijians overthrew the elected, Indian-dominated coalition. A further coup in 2000, led by businessman George Speight, saw the country's first ethnic Indian prime minister, his cabinet and several MPs held hostage for several weeks. In September 2009, Fiji was suspended from the Commonwealth over its lack of progress towards democracy. It was only the second full suspension in the organisation's history. Although the former British colony relies heavily on the sugar and tourism industries, its economy is diverse. Gold, silver and limestone are mined, and there is a strong services sector and some light manufacturing. Nonetheless, Fiji has been hampered by persistent trade and budget deficits, making it one of the world's largest per capita recipients of aid.

Sitter’s Digest Continuing with our new section from an old book from Sitter’s Digest entitled ‘Laughs in the smallest room’. The book cost 5 old shillings. Just good clean, old fashioned titilating fun from the fifties Enjoy! A man is born, lives, dies, is buried, becomes fertilizer and makes the grass grow. Along comes a horse, eats the grass and it becomes horse manure. Moral: Never kick horse manure it may be your uncle. ------------------------------------------------------------Having terminated their relationship rather abruptly, he was naturally shame-faced at running into her again on the street. “Tell me,” he said, with a rather painful attempt at small talk, “how’s that diet of yours progressing?” “Just fine,” she answered. “Last week I took off

eight pounds.” “That’s wonderful. How did you ever do it?” “I had your baby”. ------------------------------------------------------------A chap was rowing down the Thames one day when he lost one of his oars and drifted out to midstream. He tried to paddle with the other but found it difficult. Just then, coming downstream he noticed a boat with a man and two women in it, all rowing. “I say,” he shouted across the water, “can you let me have one of your oars?” The other man looked up indignantly. “They’re not ‘ores,” he protested. “They’re me mother and sister.” ------------------------------------------------------------who am i?  I hate men because they take me to dinner, into alleys and bedrooms; they crush me and feel me all over with their hands; they hold me to their lips and get me hot, and then they drag the life out of me. When they get all they want from me, they cast me aside and then i’m only good for a trampwhy should they take advantage of my little white body. After all, Who am I? I’m only a cigarette!

Halloween Facts Because the movie Halloween (1978) was on such a tight budget, they had to use the cheapest mask they could find for the character Michael Meyers, which turned out to be a William Shatner Star Trek mask. Shatner initially didn’t know the mask was in his likeness, but when he found out years later, he said he was honored. Halloween is the second highest grossing commercial holiday after Christmas in the US. The word “witch” comes from the Old English wicce, meaning “wise woman.” In fact, wiccan were highly respected people at one time. According to popular belief, witches held one of their two main meetings, or sabbats, on Halloween night. Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween. Fifty percent of kids prefer to receive chocolate candy for Halloween, compared with 24% who prefer non-chocolate candy and 10% who preferred gum.

The owl is a popular Halloween image. In Medieval Europe, owls were thought to be witches, and to hear an owl's call meant someone was about to die. The largest pumpkin ever measured was grown by Norm Craven, who broke the world record in 1993 with a 836lb. pumpkin. Black and orange are typically associated with Halloween. Orange is a symbol of strength and endurance and, along with brown and gold, stands for the harvest and autumn. Black is typically a symbol of death and darkness and acts as a reminder that Halloween once was a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death. The Village Halloween parade in New York City is the largest Halloween parade in the United StatesThe parade includes 50,000 participants and draws over 2 million spectators.

Halloween Fun Want to have fun or create a good scare? Halloween is not only for treats, it's for tricks too. We've got some good ideas for pranks and jokes here that are sure to get a surprised reaction. Funny or not, we focus on pranks that are not destructive to anyone's property or well-being - it's just not cool. Dress up as though you are the inanimate Halloween Decor for your lawn. Example: scarecrow, Frankenstein, etc. Be as still as you can. When someone walks by, jump out and scare the heck out of them. Another idea is to lay flat on the lawn, pretending to be in a grave marked with a tombstone. Imagine their surprise when you rise from the dead! Get dressed up, knock on door. When person answers, put candy into his bowl. Visit friends' houses and write on the mirror with your finger, delivering a scary message such as "I'm watching you!" Breathe on the mirror and you can see your words. Let it dry naturally. When your friend takes a shower, the

words will appear again when the mirror fogs up. Give away fake, plastic turds for treats. you are unrecognisable.

Get dressed up so

Join a group of trick-or-treaters, preferably some you know. It will drive them nuts not knowing who you are. Decorate your yard with all things superstitious. Ladder, black cat, broken mirror, crows. Put the number 13 on your door. Dress up in a hospital gown and walk around at night saying "They think I'm crazy, but I'm not. They deserved to die. They can't take me back, etc, etc." Traditional, ring doorbell and run.

Sciatica is the name given to any sort of pain that is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It runs from the back of your pelvis, through your buttocks, and all the way down both legs, ending at your feet. When something compresses or irritates the sciatic nerve, it can cause a pain that radiates out from your lower back and travels down your leg to your calf. Sciatic pain can range from being mild to very painful. Causes of sciatica A slipped disc is the most common identified cause of sciatica, but in some cases there is no obvious cause. Less common causes include spinal stenosis (narrowing of the nerve passages in the spine), injury, infection or a growth in the spine. When to see your GP Most people find their sciatic pain goes away naturally within a few days or weeks. However, see your GP if: • You experience any other symptoms together with your back and leg pain, such as weight loss or loss of bladder or bowel control • You experience increasingly more pain and

discomfort • Your pain is too severe to manage with selfhelp measures. Treating sciatica Most cases of short-term (known as acute) sciatica will pass without the need for treatment. A combination of things you can do at home, such as taking over-the-counter painkillers, exercise and hot or cold packs can usually relieve the symptoms. For persistent sciatica (known as chronic), you may be advised to try a structured exercise programme under the supervision of a physiotherapist. In very rare cases, surgery may be needed to control the symptoms. Preventing sciatica There are some steps you can take to minimise your risk of a slipped disc or back injury that could lead to sciatica. This includes: • Better posture and lifting techniques at work • Stretching before and after exercise • Simple, regular exercises to improve flexibility

Dangerous Dogs Dog Laws in Andalucia bought to us by Tina from Happy Hounds. Before taking on the responsibility of a dog it is worth consulting your vet and the laws on keeping certain breeds of dog. Some dogs are abandoned because the owners did not know of the newer, stricter laws in Andalucia that govern ownership of potentially dangerous animals. These laws target certain breeds and cross breeds of dog including Rottweiler, Doberman, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Pit Bull Terrier, Akita, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and Tosa Inu. In addition, dogs with one or more characteristics of these breeds such as strong musculature; a deep chest with a height over 50cm and weighing more than 20 kilos; large square head with wide skull and strong jaws; short hair (it really says this); broad, short and muscled neck; etc. may also be classified as potentially dangerous. And finally, a dog with a history of aggression towards humans or other animals also falls into this category and the owner must comply with the following requirements, your dog only needs to show potential aggression to be considered dangerous.

wESTON kENNELS  & CaTTErY Fully Licensed kennels Competa Home from Home for your dogs and cats

Anyone who owns a potentially dangerous dog must have proof of identity (passport or residence card), proof of no criminal record; a doctor’s report stating they are physically and mentally fit to handle such a dog; proof of full vaccinations and microchip; proof the dog has completed a training course and liability insurance for at least 175,000€. Once all these requirements are met the owner must apply for a special license and register the animal with the town hall annually. Furthermore, whenever the owner takes the dog out it must be on a short leash (maximum length of 1 metre), no extendable leads, it must wear a muzzle at all times, the owner must carry the license and registration paperwork with them, and the animal cannot enter a recreational area such as a park, beach or playground. The truth is that any breed of dog has the capacity to be dangerous, and it is down to the owners to understand their dog and see the signs if there dog is showing any aggression towards people or other animals. If you have a topic that you would like covered or a specific question please email Tina on

Three Cautionary Tales Following on from last month about how people try to cheat us all, third and final senario number three. Last month (x) called Mr. Smith, in the UK went into a Chinese restaurant to pick up an order that he had telephoned. Mr. Smith paid by using his Visa Card which, of course, is linked directly to his current Account. The young man behind the counter took his card, swiped it, then laid it on the counter as he waited for it to clear, which is a pretty standard procedure. While he waited, he picked up his mobile phone and started dialling. Mr. Smith just noticed the phone because it is the same model his daughter uses, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then he heard the click that sounds like her phone sounds when she takes a picture. He then gave me back my card but kept the phone in his hand as if he was still pressing buttons. Meanwhile, Mr. Smith was thinking: I wonder what he is taking a picture of, oblivious at the time to what he was really doing.

It then dawned on Mr. Smith: the only thing there was my credit card, so now he started paying much closer attention... He set his phone on the counter, leaving it open. About five seconds later, he heard the chime that indicated the picture has been saved. Mr. Smith was standing there struggling with the fact that this boy just took a picture of his credit card. He didn't say anything to him as the consequences had still not dawned on him. Yes, he had done it so smoothly, because if his daughter had not had the same kind of phone, he probably would never have realised what happened. Needless to say, he immediately walked to the bank and cancelled that card.. Just be aware of your surroundings at all times. Whenever you are using your credit card take caution and don't be careless. Notice who is standing near you and what they are doing when you use your card. Never let your card out of your sight!

Helping Axarquia - Some Good News! Self-Employed people over the age of 30 will also pay a “flat rate”. The Spanish Ministry of Employment will extend the 50€ flat rate for new self-employed people over the age of 30 years old in the draft law on Supporting Measures for Entrepreneurs and Internationalisation. This supporting measure, revealed by the Spanish newspaper ABC, was formerly applied only to young people under the age of 30. Now this limit will be lifted and social security contri-

butions for self-employed people will be fixed at 50€ for the first six months of activity and 125€ for the following six months. The normal contributions are fixed at 250€ per month; therefore, this “means 2,000€ savings per year”. New Mum In Town - It’s Peppa Time New Mum In Town - Back to school; sort of It's September, and autumn is upon us... in some parts of Spain perhaps! Here in Almuñecar, it is still glorious sunshine and hot hot hot; we are still swimming in the sea! Little Jazmin is growing up fast. She has added to her Spanglish list of vocabulary, and her new favourite games are 'Mami, where are you...??' and 'night' (night sounds great, but that is her tucking her teddies into bed, not tucking herself in). In the Nightgarden has become the main evening TV, but Peppa is still up there! Joy! However, she is becoming a little madam. Everything she sees she wants and everything is hers -- like mother like daughter perhaps!) This is apparently normal, but I do not like it that when her friend comes over, Jazmin gets so anxious and territorial over her toys. She hits, pushes, snatches, screams...big tantrums! NOOOOOOOOOOOO...too young for that, surely! I know we Mums shouldn’t compare, but it's so hard when her friend is not like that at all -- just influenced by Jazmin I'm sure. The playdates were becoming quite stressful for both babies and Mummies, so Jazmin is going back to nursery. I love my baby girl, and we spend our time singing, playing and learning, but she does need more stimulation (and a chance to be a little less clingy to Mum) so here's hoping that nursery has the answer. Another bonus is that at nursery, sharing is a must! It will only be a couple of hours each day; it will do her good….. it will...(Mami's new mantra.) YAHOO! We have survived the back to nursery week! At first Miss J was not sure at all, but as soon as she saw good old Dora the Explorer lying on the floor, she leaped out of my arms and claimed it as hers...'Mami, Dora Dora!!' was all I heard. I stayed with her for a bit, to help her feel secure, then I left. Whilst Jazmin was 'adapting' I kept myself occupied (and hot) in town. The time just flew by and before I knew it, I was back at the nursery to pick her up. I couldn't wait to see her, and I was preparing myself for a tear-stained, puffy face (Jazmin's, not mine), but...o...little J didn't even notice me! WHAT? It took her 10 minutes to realise that Mami was there. Positive start to adapting and interacting with other children me thinks.

However, when she did clap eyes on me, my heart (and eyes) filled with raw emotion as she dropped everything, ran like Forrest Gump and gave me the biggest cuddle and besito! I put on a tough Mum face, swallowed the lump that had started to form in my throat, smiled and just squeezed her back - aww, my little baby is growing up! Another bonus has been that Jazmin gets home, eats her lunch like there is no tomorrow (which has been a real battle recently), and sleeps a good siesta. Result! What was I worrying about?... Miss J is fine at nursery -- she even wanted to go back in on Friday! Note to self - Jazmin and I are incredibly bonded and she does need me, but she is also fine if I am not around for a little while. Advice to new mums - it is good to try and remember this from time to time, otherwise you could find yourself getting bogged down in Mummy duties and forgetting simple things like laughing, relaxing or taking time out! Another new first...wait for it....Mami (aka me) is going back to work! EEEKK! Find out all about it next month...

Padre Pio Restaurant / Bar Hello my friends and clients I have great satisfaction in telling you that summer is over and for us is a time of the year when working is very difficult in many ways. First because it is very hot and because our family doesn't like the high temperatures. In spite of the fact that it doesn't seem true, the chef comes from a hot country (Brazil) and likes the cold a lot. We were on holiday for a few days and they seemed very short but at the same time very long. I'm going to explain why. We went to Italy to visit our second family and were very busy. We managed to rest just enough to think about our "Gourmet Corner" in Spain. We met an old friend from the 5th land in Italy and over a glass of wine we spoke a little about our restaurant in Spain and about our cooking and clients. Comparing all this we have developed a second menu fundamentally based on the tastes of our clients and those of the 5th land known as Genova, like a variety of filled pasta. For example; Noodles with Black Cuttlefish, Black and White Ravioli, Tortellini filled with Nettles and Cottage Cheese, etc. Argentinian meat - Sirloin and Entrecote From the countryside: Rabbit, Acorn Fed Pig (pork) From Africa: Ostrich From Australia: Crocodile, Frog, etc. From France: Duck with Orange Sauce Well, we have chosen an exotic menu. My husband told me I had gone mad. The end result was positive since I did it with a lot of Love and Fantasy. We want you to come and try what you still haven't tried. All the dishes are made with products that are 100% natural and fresh.

& t i u Fr Facts umber Veg he Cuc T

The humble cucumber has a host of secrets which not only benefit your health and good looks, but also help around the home and garden as well. The cucumber is cooler than you think! The photochemical in cucumbers makes the collagen in your skin tighten, thus decreases puffiness. You can also rub a cucumber on a problematic spot of cellulite anywhere on your body to lessen the visibility of it. Cucumber has the same effect on wrinkles too. Cucumbers are high in B vitamins, sugar and electrolytes, and they replenish the nutrients missing in your body to help you avoid a hangover or to beat that headache that’s been threatening to take over. Take a slice of cucumber and put it on the roof of your mouth. Hold it there with your tongue for 30 seconds. The photochemical that you love for cellulite and puff reduction will also kill the bacteria that causes bad breath. If you’re feeling tired in the afternoon, grab a cucumber. There are just enough carbohydrates and B vitamins to give you a longer-lasting and healthier boost of energy than soda, coffee, or those health hazard energy drinks. You can also eat cucumber as a healthy choice when the munchies hit. For a frugal facial, slice up a cucumber and boil it in a pot of water. The chemicals inside the cucumber will mix with the steam. Remove the pot from heat and lean over it, letting the steam hit you. Your skin will be more radiant and healthy, and you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Do you get annoyed when you get out of the shower and you have to fight the fog on the mirror? Try rubbing a slice of cucumber on the mirror before you hop in and not only will you get a fog-free mirror, but you’ll have a nice

smell that will boost your mood. Sometimes sun block doesn’t always protect as it should. Rub some cucumber on burnt areas -- many doctors even use cucumber to treat patients with irritated skin and sunburns. Cucumber has been long used to treat high blood pressure. There is also ongoing research into the use of cucumbers for lowering cholesterol. The seeds of a cucumber are a diuretic. If you’re constipated, try eating a cucumber. If you suffer from chronic constipation, add cucumber to your daily diet. And finally....cucumber has a variety of uses around the home. Did you know you can get rid of a squeak by rubbing a cucumber on a creaky hinge? You can also use an unpeeled cucumber to rub the crayon off walls, to erase a pen mistake – and even remove tarnish from stainless steel.

Random Joke :) Should children witness childbirth?

Hi Kami, Today we had lunch at La Tasca in Torre del Mar, and just to let you know it was excellent. I had chicken chargrilled with salad and garlic bread, my husband had chicken with serrano ham and cheese, both dishes were so tasty. We would definitely recommend. Joe gave us a warm welcome and the service was good. Thanks very much. Email received from Moira and Tony from Caleta de Velez who were the winners of the July “Name the Building competition. If you would like to enter our monthly competition turn to page 54 for details.

Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to a call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl to hold a torch high over her Mummy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Chloe was born. The paramedic lifted her by her little feet and spanked her on her bottom. Chloe began to cry. The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she had just witnessed. Kathleen quickly responded, "She shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place....Smack her bottom again!"

Torre Del Mar

At 28 kilometres east of Málaga you will find this charming sea-side resort that is part of the scenic Axarquía route of sun and avocado. The main crop of this area used to be sugar cane and the few fields that still lead down from the coast road to the sea shore are testament to this. However, in this ever changing and financially material world we live in the farmers find that crops such as mangoes and avocadoes are much more economically friendly! One of the few remaining Osborne Bulls looms over the town from its high position above the naturist beach at Almayate where the river divides the two towns and spews water and other things onto the beach after heavy rainfall! Sugar cane was introduced to the area in the 10th century by the Muslims and a Coruña Zagra named Ramon built the first industrial manufacture of sugar cane in Torre del Mar on the site of an old mill. The Factory, (Ingenio Azucarero) called Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Torre del Mar, was active in 1991 and went through several owners. The chimneys and sugar mill are still standing today and can be seen in the middle of the town. If you love peace and quiet the two days of the year to avoid visiting this bustling town are its main festivals where the place is heaving. These are July 26th for the feast day of its patron saints, Santiago and Santa Ana and of course the eve of the feast of the Virgin del Carmen on July 15th when everyone camps out on the beaches, lighting bonfires and jump-

ing over them three times to cleanse and purify their souls before dipping into the sea at midnight to bring good luck for the coming year and wash away any lurking evil spirits. Like many areas in the Axarquía, Torre del Mar dates back to the Carthaginians, Phoenician, and Roman times and was used as a main port in the 10th century when the town was called Miraya Ballis! In the 15th century there was a castle that defended attacks from pirates and foreigners. It takes its new name, Tower of the Sea, from the many watchtowers that were all along its coastline during Roman and Moorish times. In the 19th century it was made up of four distinct Barrios or quarters, Barrio del Castillo, Barrio de la Viña, Barrio de la Parroquia and Casas Nuevas. In the beginning of the 20th century it had a train station and few spa´s and the town rather than defending against foreigners actively sought them out but it wasn´t until the 1960´s that tourism really came to town, when beach promenades and large avenues were built to accommodate them and infrastructures like hotels were built to keep them staying on! There was a new tram line linking the towns of Vélez-Málaga to Torre del Mar but sadly it is no longer in use due to the financial crisis! There is a street market right down by the beach open every evening until 3 am during the summer and a day market every Thursday. Torre del Mar is a fun place for old and young alike with plenty of ice-cream parlours to tempt even the most jaded of pallets!

Teachings from the Light: Letting Go By Keidi Keating A few months after The Light had launched into the world, I felt a little lost about what to do next. Why had God guided me to bringing out this book? Was that it? Was that all I had to do and now it was out there, I would go back to wondering what I was here for? I expressed my feelings of frustration to a friend, who looked at me and smiled with a knowing spark in her eyes. “Follow that which comes unsought,” she said to me. She explained that I could try to make any number of things happen, but that the things with the real power happen spontaneously, because they’re meant to. This made me think about how a tree is formed. Someone plants a seed and then the tree effortlessly grows, complete with branches, leaves and finally the succulent and delicious fruits. I knew that meant I had to take a step back and not try and force anything to happen, but rather by letting go of any expectations or outcomes, I would allow it to thrive naturally in Divine timing. And so I did. It was perfect timing as I was about to take a trip back to the UK to visit a friend who I hadn’t seen for several years. That’s when I received two emails in the space of one week inviting me to come and speak at different events. “Speaking? I hadn’t even considered that before. But God, if that’s what you want me to do, then who am I to say no!” and so I replied with a, “Yes, I’d love to come and speak to your audience.” The future was set and I was about to discover a hidden talent that I didn’t even know I had! From this incident I learned that forcing anything never works. We’ve all had the experience of trying to force someone to see our point of view or forcing a child to behave in a certain, preferred way. Rarely does that tactic work, as when someone pushes against your hands, the natural reaction is to push right back. The same happens with the Universe. Push and you’ll meet with resistance. By letting go you’ll allow the energy to flow!

Who are these people...? ....and what are they doing here?” were the words on the lips of puzzled customers at the Niza café in Velez Malaga on the morning of 5th Sept, when prospective members of Axarquia’s new choir, “Coral Bel Canto” gathered to meet their new conductor, Manolo Sanchidrián. 24 men and women of 7 different nationalities were enjoying drinks and churros and chatting to new friends in a variety of languages. They were then taken to the beautiful XVI century church of the Convent of Las Claras, with its stunning interior and high domed roof. Manolo took them through some warming-up exercises and explained how to intonate their voices to improve their singing. Then followed the choir learning a new piece in Latin by a 17th century composer, Antonio Lotti, as well as singing “Esta Tierra”, a much loved Spanish piece, and finishing with “Canticorum Jubilo” by Handel which is well-known in its English version, “Thine be the Glory”. A good time was had by all and “Coral Bel Canto” was truly launched. Bel Canto will be meeting at Las Claras every Thurs at 11am. New members will always be made welcome. I Did Not Know This... Take care when drinking!

When you drink vodka over ice, it can give you kidney failure. When you drink rum over ice, it can give you liver failure. When you drink whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems. When you drink gin over ice, it can give you brain problems. Apparently, ice is really bad for you. Warn all your friends!

Full Name: Quentin Jerome Tarantino Nickname: QT Birthday: March 27, 1963, age: 50 Parents: Mother Connie McHugh, who is part Cherokee and part Irish, and actor Tony Tarantino, who left the family before Quentin was born. Sign: Aries Despite having an IQ of 160, Quentin loathed school, choosing to spend his time watching movies or reading comics rather than studying. The only subject that appealed to him was history. He says one of his earliest memories is of his grandmother taking him to see a John Wayne movie. After dropping out of high school, Quentin was employed in the porn industry, collecting money from street-corner magazine sales. He then worked as an usher at an adult film theatre for a time, and also took acting classes. He landed a guest spot on the popular TV sitcom The Golden Girls, playing an Elvis impersonator. In his early 20s, Quentin got a job at the Video Archives, where he wrote the scripts for True Romance and Natural Born Killers. His directorial debut came in 1992 with Reser-

role in Quentin’s film Pulp Fiction revived his flagging acting career. Known for his temper, Quentin got into a public disagreement with director Oliver Stone. Stone directedN atural Born Killers (1994) and rewrote parts of Quentin’s script. Enraged by the rewrites, Quentin fought to have his name taken off the film. In a related incident, Quentin slapped one of the producers of Natural Born Killers when he ran into him at Los Angeles restaurant. Quentin has written, acted in, directed or produced more than 20 films During the filming of Pulp Fiction, Quentin promised Uma Thurman that he would write a script as a birthday present for her – this was ‘Kill Bill.’ Initially he said that he would get it done two weeks, but it actually took over a year. He originally wanted Warren Beatty for the titular "Bill," but he then moved on to David Carradine from the television series Kung Fu. He had a long-term relationship with actress Mira Sorvino, but said he would always put his career above his personal life. He has never been married and has no children. All his films have reference to the Netherlands. Madonna – who is the main subject of the opening dialogue in Reservoir Dogs – said on US TV that she ‘liked the film a lot’. He is obsessed with female feet, and will try to have as many shots as possible of the feet of the actresses (and even extras) in his movies. Actresses who have shown their feet in Tarantino movies include Uma Thurman, Angela Jones, Jennifer Beals, Bridget Fonda, Lucy Liu, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Rosario Dawson, and Zoe Bell.

...Trivia 1. In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes... when you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. That's where the phrase, "good night, sleep tight" came from. 2. The term "the whole 9 yards" came from W.W.II fighter pilots in the Pacific. When arming their airplanes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measured exactly 27 feet, before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, it got "the whole 9 yards." 3. A 10 foot tall emu was spotted walking the streets of New York in 1973, it had accidently escaped from a circus that specialised in large exotic birds. When police questioned the circus owners they responded saying "George was constipated, so we thought a run around the grounds may help him feel better" Police fined the circus 25 dollars, and 5 months later a bi-law was passed stating that all emus within New York City must be on a leash.

British Expats May Lose UK TV In Spain But...! As expats living in Spain, nothing reminds us of -- and keeps us connected to -- the UK more than having the ability to watch British television in our new homeland. Until now, expats have been able to get UK television by using a large dish, however the launch of a new satellite which replaces the existing Astra 2b comes with rumours that expats could find themselves without the ability to tune into the UK channels. Nothing can be said definitely about whether you will still be able to receive the satellite signal until that satellite has launched and it has taken its effect. ) : a h a h s e k o J A big Alabamian stopped at a local restaurant in Torre del Mar following a day roaming around in Andalucía Spain... While sipping his wine, he noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, the smell was wonderful. He asked the waiter, 'What is that you just served?' The waiter replied, 'Si senor, you have excellent taste! Those are called Cojones de Toro, bull's testicles from the bull fight this morning. A delicacy!' The guy from Alabama said, 'What the heck, bring me an order.' The waiter replied, 'I am so sorry senor. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delicacy.' The next morning, the Alabamian returned, placed his order, and that evening was served the one and only special delicacy of the day. After he had eaten his delicious meal, he called to the waiter and said, 'They were delicious, but they were much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday.' The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied, 'Si, Senor. Sometimes the bull wins.' ---------------------------------------------------------------One rainy neet in the toon, a taxi driver spotted an arm waving from the shadders of an alley. Even before he rolled to a stop at the curb, a figure leapt into his cab and slammed the door. Checking his rear view mirror as he pulled away, he was startled to see a dripping wet, stark naked woman sitting in the back seat. “Where to pet?” he stammered. “Walkergate" answered the woman. “Ok,” he said, taking another long glance in the mirror. The woman caught him staring at her and asked, “Just what the hell are you luckin' at bonny lad?” “Well pet, replied the driver, i cannat help noticing that you’re completely naked, and i was just wondering how you’ll pay the fare.”

The woman spread her legs, put her feet up on the back of the front seat, smiled at the driver and said, “Does this answer your question?” Still looking in the mirror, the cabbie said, “Have yer not got owt smaller?” ---------------------------------------------------------------A beautiful woman went to the gynaecologist... The doctor took one look at the woman and all his professionalism flew out the window. He immediately told her to get undressed. After she disrobed the doctor began to stroke her thigh. While doing so he asked her, "Do you know what I am doing?" "Yes," she replied, "you are checking for abrasions or dermatological abnormalities." "That is right," said the doctor. He then began to fondle her breasts. "Do you know what I am doing now?" he asked. "Yes," she said, "you are checking for lumps which might indicate breast cancer.." "Correct," replied the shady doctor. Finally, he mounted his patient and started having sexual intercourse with her. He asked, "Do you know what I am doing now?" "Yes," she said, "You're getting syphillis; which is why I came here in the first place." ---------------------------------------------------------------The judge says to a double-murder defendant, "You're charged with beating your wife to death with a hammer." A voice at the back of the courtroom yells out, "You b*stard!" The judge says, "You're also charged with beating your mother-in-law to death with a hammer." The voice in the back of the courtroom yells out, "You rotten b*stard!" The judge stops and says to the man in the back of the courtroom. "Sir, I can understand your anger and frustration at these crimes, but no more outbursts from you, or I'll charge you with contempt. Is that understood?" The man stands up and says, "I'm sorry, your Honour, but for fifteen years I've lived next door to that prat, and every time I asked to borrow a hammer, he said he didn't have one."

Jokes h a h a :) A woman went into a store to buy her husband a pet for his birthday. After looking around, she found that all the pets were very expensive. She told the clerk she wanted to buy a pet, but she didn't want to spend a fortune. 'Well,' said the clerk, 'I have a very large bullfrog. They say it's been trained to give b*** jobs!' 'B*** jobs!' the woman replied. 'It hasn't been proven but we've sold 30 of them this month,' he said. The woman thought it would be a great gag gift, and what if it's true...No more b*** jobs for her! She bought the frog. When she explained froggy's ability to her husband, he was extremely skeptical and laughed it off!... The woman went to bed happy, thinking she may never need to perform this less than riveting act again. In the middle of the night, she was awakened by the noise of pots and pans flying everywhere, making hellacious banging and crashing sounds. She ran downstairs to the kitchen, only to find her husband and the frog reading cook books. 'What are you two doing at this hour?' she asked. The husband replied, 'If I can teach this frog to cook... you're gone.' ------------------------------------------------------------"Sixty is the worst age to be," said the 60-yearold man. "You always feel like you have to pee and most of the time you stand there nothing comes out." "Ah, that's nothin," said the 70-year-old. "When you're seventy, you don't have a bowel movement any more. You take laxatives, eat bran, sit on the toilet all day and nothin' comes out!" "Actually," said the 80-year -old, "Eighty is the worst age of all." "Do you have trouble peeing, too?" asked the 60-year old. "No, I pee every morning at 6. I pee like a racehorse; no problem at all." "So, do you have a problem with your bowel movement?" "No, I have one every morning at 6:30."

Exasperated, the 60-year-old said, "You pee every morning at 6 and crap every morning at 6:30. So what's so bad about being 80?" "I don't wake up until 7." ------------------------------------------------------------Husband and wife had a tiff. Wife called up her mum and said, "He fought with me again, I am coming to live with you." Mum said, "No darling, he must pay for his mistake. I am coming to live with you.

Saint Stevie The Scouse Section 2 Scousers are riding along the M62 from Manchester to Liverpool on a motorbike. They break down and start hitching a lift. A friendly trucker stops to see if he can help and the scousers ask him for a lift. He tells them he has no room in the wagon as he is carrying 20,000 bowling balls but will take a look at the bike for them. He tries everything he knows but is unable to repair it. Time is getting on now and he's late for his delivery so he tells the scousers he has to leave. "R hey lad" they say "gissa lift". The trucker once again explains that he has no room as he is carrying 20,000 bowling balls. The scousers put it to the driver that if they can manage to fit in the back will he take them and he agrees. They manage to squeeze themselves and their motorbike into the back of the wagon so the driver shuts the doors and gets off on his way. By this time he is really late and so puts his foot down. Sure enough PC Plod of Greater Manchester Police pulls him up for speeding. The good officer asks the driver what he is carrying to which he replies Scouse Eggs. The policeman obviously doesn't believe this so wants to take a look. He opens the back door and quickly shuts it and locks it. He gets onto his radio and calls for immediate backup from as many officers as possible. The dispatcher asks what emergency he has that requires so many officers. "I've got a wagon with 20,000 Scouse eggs in it - 2 have already hatched and the b******* have managed to nick a motorbike already".

Let c be the number of chickens, and r be the Last Month’s Crossword number of rabbits. r + c = 72, 4r + 2c = 200. To solve the equations, we multiply answers the first by two, then subtract the second. 2r + 2c = 144, 2r = 56, r = 28, c = 44. So there are 44 chickens and 28 rabbits in the cage. 3. There were two little girls and a boy, their parents, and their father's parents, totalling seven people. 4. Two half-full barrels are dumped into one of the empty barrels. Two more half-full barrels are dumped into another one of the empty barrels. This results in nine full barrels, three halffull barrels, and nine empty barrels. Each son gets three full barrels, one half-full barrel, and three empty barrels. Find The Cat answer
