OBITUARIES
EVAN WALTER “BUTCH” BRANSON Evan Walter “Butch” Branson, son of Walter Cleveland Branson and Virginia Toelke Branson was born April 12, 1938 in Evansville, Indiana and passed from this life Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center at 78 years of age. Evan received his education in Evansville, Indiana graduating from Central High School. Soon after high school, Butch was called to service his country with the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Airman First Class. He was united in marriage to Joyce Keeler Branson on December 28, 1958 at Denver, CO and two children, Debra and Evan Jr. blessed this union. Following his discharge from the service Butch worked a number of years in the Aerospace Avionics industry as a Field Service Engineer. Butch’s work took he and his family to many cities over an eighteen year span. However, they returned to Clarke County, Iowa in 1976. At that time Butch owned and operated an on demand print service in Des Moines. Most recently, he has enjoyed working as a produce farmer for the past several years. After returning to Iowa, Butch was involved with Powell Chemical Dependency Center where he mentored for many years, the Clarke County Arts Council, he attainted the designation of a Master Gardener, participated with the Crossroads Mental Health Board and was a member of the local Poker Club in Osceola. He also loved his gardening and taking his produce to the farmers market as well as carving and painting gourds that he raised. Butch was also known to be technologically savvy and loved science fiction. Those relatives who preceded Evan in death were his parents Walter Cleveland Branson; mother, Virginia Branson, step-father, William Barr and step-mother, Marj Branson; sister, Shannon Willoughby and his father-in-law, Willard Wayne
Keeler. Evan leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Joyce Branson of Weldon, IA, daughter, Debra (Lee) March of Blairsville, GA, son, Evan W (Shellee Showalter) Branson, Jr. of Rock Island, IL, grandchildren, William (Kristin Hall) Branson March of Austin, TX; Benjamin March of Blairsville, GA; Sydney Branson of Rock Island, IL, half-brother, David M. (Janet) Barr of Kirkwood, MO; half-sister, Susan (Doug) Bland of Kirkwood, MO, mother -in-law, of Weldon, IA sister-in-law, Jean (Lonnie) Liggitt of Sand Springs, OK, brother-in-law, Warren (Sue) Keeler of Osceola, IA as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Social News Aschan Receives Chambers Memorial
Decatur County Fair Princess WILMA LOIS SEARCY Wilma Lois Searcy, 89, of Leon, IA, formerly of Kirksville, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the Westview Acres Nursing Home in Leon, IA. Wilma was born on March 29, 1927 in Shelby County, MO, the daughter of Alfred B. and Esther R. (Schwada) Beckley. She graduated from Clarence High School in 1945. She also attended Chillicothe Business School. On April 9, 1950 in Shelbina, MO she was united in marriage to Wayne Allen Searcy. Wilma worked as a homemaker, mother and accountant for her husband’s company, Searcy Construction. Wilma lived most of her life in Kirksville, MO before moving to Leon, IA in 2008. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Kirksville and a 50 year member of the Kirksville Chapter #184 Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Searcy; daughter, Denise Searcy Minter and two brothers, Wendell and Donald Beckley. Survivors include a sister, Wanda Grace Lowery of Columbia, MO; daughter, Janet Redman and husband Bob of Leon, IA; grandchildren, Jessica Redman Sullivan and husband Andrew of Leon, IA, Andrew Redman and wife Janessa of Republic, MO and Seth Minter and wife Jami of Macomb, IL; great grandchildren, Logan Proctor and Finley Sullivan of Leon, IA, Claire and Isaiah Redman of Republic, MO and Addilyn Minter of Macomb, IL.
Cadence Clark, right, daughter of Travis and Machelle Clark, was selected as the 2016 Decatur County Fair Princess, crowned by Raechel Scudder, the 2015 Decatur County Fair Princess. Mackenzie Howard, daughter of Tom and Wendi Howard, was named 1st runner-up and Logan Proctor, daughter of Dustin and Kelly Proctor and Jessica and Andy Sullivan, received the Miss Personality Plus award.

Kaycee Aschan, the daughter of Jennifer Boyce, was the recipient of the 2016 Iroline Chambers Memorial. Kaycee used the $150 to help pay for her mother, her younger siblings and herself to go on an overnight trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. On her application she wrote that she wanted to learn about animals; and that they had learned about koalas at school this past year. After she had been to the zoo she wrote, “On our way we saw lots of big wind turbines. My favorite part was the aquariums and the elephants. My sister Taylor and I are seeing baby and mommy elephants.” The scholarship is given annually to a third grade student in the Central Decatur schools. Mrs. Chambers taught third grade at the South School for many years. This is the fifth year this scholarship has been awarded.
