My project is Parallel Research Centers for clients Amber Bartosh and Brian Lonsway and our stakeholders are Ava, Alex, Mark, and the AI system. The year is 2071. In partnership with Ayana Ayscue, Zhi Fei Li, and Rebecca Ramirez our purpose was to create a facility committed to research, development, and revenue. The project is located by Battery Park in New York City on Earth.
The other coexisting part of the project is located on the planet Kepler 186f in the City of Hyperia. The goal was to create a facility that could help interconnect these two worlds. This would be done through the transferring of user conscious between two worlds. This process is done by putting on a Disk and entering a transition pod then waking up in a alien hyperian body. Humans also need to replace their organs with enhanced organs.

The goal of this analysis is to study the systems of building given micro climate, comfortability, and overall efficiency of the space, walls, facades, and structure. Eysturkommuna Town Hall will be studied both in its original site as well as the chosen alternate site, North Point Park, Boston, Massachusetts. Through research, information was gathered on effective systems of building design that will later inform a facade redesign in the alternate location.

Eysturkommuna Town Hall in Faroe Island was designed by Henning Larsen Architects in 2018. The building was constructed across a small river that meanders underneath the building allowing it to double as a bridge. This is not only a creation of space to elevate the community but it also symbolizes the connections and merger of two once separated cities into what is now Nordragota. At about 750m, the Town Hall provides office spaces arranged in a uniquely angular floor plan that becomes flush to the ground at two points. This allows for the people of Nordragota to walk on the paved path on the roof . This outdoor space provides not only a flourishing green roof from aerial view but brings a functionality to the building’s exterior. With this, the building uses a dark glazed pine on the exterior and window heavy facades to create an exterior view harmonized with surrounding environment and allows the viewer from the interior to immerse themselves with the landscape.
Alternative Site: Boston, Massachusetts
Boston falls in the northern hemisphere, radiation comes in from the south. The longest day of the year is at the end of June with nearly 16 hours of daylight time, that is when radiation angle is the highest i.e., 700. The shortest day of the year is in December with nearly just 9 hours of daylight time. The southeastern side is the part with maximum radiation throughout the year, Southwest receives partial radiation and the North barely gets any radiation.
Boston, MA Direct sun hours per year range from 200 to 2,000 hours. This is an extreme range of the building walls and roof being exposed to the sun. The southern wall experience the highest amount of direct sun where total for the year is 1,400 hours. This is the polar opposite of the norther facade where the total hours are around 200 hours. Faroe Island Direct sun hours have an extreme range for the whole building similar to the alternative site of Boston, MA. The southern wall has a high amount of direct hours of 1,600 hours. The reason for the southern wall sun hours being higher compared to the alternate site may be due to the difference of sun path and angle as shown in the solar radiation diagrams (above).

A spatial daylight autonomy analysis of the alternate site Boston, MA was conducted under the LEED v4 standards. This analysis shows how much daylight each level of building receives during operating hours on an annual basis. With the shades closed, we can see that the light is almost fully blocked along the south and east facing facade. Although this may be the case, light still enters the space in a muted sense given that the shades are semi-transparent. The shades remain half open on the north and west facade to show the different between the two conditions.
For the facade redesign, triangulated shades were added to the exterior. The shader can be opened or closed by the users if needed. The shades were added to prevent uncontrollable daylight and glare through the windows as discussed as a primary issue with moving the building to Boston. The shades are also useful for adding an exterior protection to the glass facade given the addition of a snowy winter at this site. With this, there is now a second insulated layer covering the window to cut wind impact and also help to limit unwanted heat loss and gain when fully closed. The shades were made to open fully, exposing the windows to allow sun to pass through in the winter in attempt to create a passive heating strategy during the day. The shades cover the whole facade to create the look of a fully textured surface bring a more cohesive aesthetic. Although they appear along the entire facade, only the shades over the window can be opened.
Smothers Elementary school: The objective was to create an addition to an existing historic school building using sustainable elements.

Urban bus stop: The objective was to re-imagine urban bus stops and create an effective and original design that is also sustainable to the environment. Program: Sketchup, Lumion
Mixed use apartment complex: the objective was to design a multi story mixed use building with commercial on the ground level and residential on the upper levels. This was provided with rowhouses to the back of the buidling sharing an activeted alley. The budiling is then connects to a community space Program: SketchUp, Revit, Lumion
Art gallery: The objective was to create an interior space for viewing and creating artwork with gallery located on second level, while also designing an outdoor sculpture gallery around the perimeter of the building.
Program: Revit, 3ds max, Lumion
