LOCAL RESIDENT AND BUSINESS OWNER AMY SKIRVIN SPEARHEADS FRANKLIN’S FIRST COMMUNITY PUBLICATION

One could describe Amy Skirvin as a Renaissance woman as she has many talents and has pursued a variety of different careers throughout her lifetime. Born and raised on the southside, Skirvin moved to Franklin when she was a freshman in high school.

“I consider Franklin my hometown,” she says.

She and her husband, Steve, have three teenagers: Abby, Samantha, and Henry, all of whom were raised in Franklin.

When her children were young, Skirvin was a nurse. She worked in long-term care, medical sales, then home health & hospice referrals where she helped grow several businesses. She realized that she thoroughly enjoyed business development so in 2019 she decided to shake things up and

try something totally new.

She had been teaching fitness classes at a local studio and began offering $5 classes on the basketball court of a local park. That eventually grew into a business she launched called Sweat Shop. All was moving along nicely and then COVID hit, but Skirvin used that as an opportunity to teach herself how to run a business online. She created a Facebook group where 100+ women and their partners worked out with her during the pandemic.

“I decided I wanted to make this a legitimate business so I went all in and leased a building for Sweat Shop,” says Skirvin, who credits her sister, Bekah, for providing unwavering support. May marks her fifth year with the business, which has grown an impressive following of fitness-focused folks who have formed solid friendships in their

quest to form solid bodies.

“We build one another up,” says Skirvin, who began posting Facebook live videos over the holiday season to help promote other local businesses. The experience prompted her to find ways to market other womenowned businesses in the community. When she was presented with the opportunity to purchase the Towne Post Franklin territory and launch Franklin Magazine, it was kismet.

“I’d been praying about what to do next, and this felt like the stars aligning,” Skirvin says. “I know 100% that this is it! This is our next step! It all fits together as it enables us to make more of an impact in the Franklin community.”

The first issue of Franklin Magazine launches in May, and she wants it to include a taste of what’s to come.

“I want to highlight Franklin’s history, the restaurants, the breweries, the businesses, and then go back later to tell a bigger story,” says Skirvin, who thrives on collaboration and connectivity. People often tell Skirvin that when they take a fitness class, they do so much more than when they work out alone.

“That’s the power of group fitness— feeding off of one another’s energy, being challenged, and rising up,” says Skirvin. “That’s what I want to create with Franklin Magazine. I want us to collectively feed off each other’s energy by sharing ideas, creating events, and spreading the word about how awesome Franklin is. Because when people read that first edition, I want them to see that this isn’t Amy’s magazine. It belongs to Franklin.”

FRANKLIN MAGAZINE WILL JOIN CENTER GROVE MAGAZINE IN JOHNSON COUNTY WITH A COMBINED DISTRIBUTION OF 25,400 HOMES AND BUSINESSES EACH MONTH.

ARTWORK CHANGES

You may change your artwork each month at no additional charge. Submit changes to your sales representative no later than the “Ad Deadline” date to insure enough time for revised proofs and approvals.

INSERTS OR OUTSERTS

If you are providing a preprinted insert or outsert, you must provide a sample to Towne Post at least one week prior to the “Ad Deadline” date. Materials will need to be preapproved for size, weight, and content before being bound with the publication(s).
