President’s Message New homes are built to be significantly more energy efficient today than the homes of the past. But what does that mean for you as a homeowner? The benefits of having an energy efficient new home are often overlooked or misunderstood when making a home investment decision. Acknowledging the HERS Index score of the home is a reliable way to gauge where it falls on the efficiency spectrum, which allows you to then estimate the benefits and impacts as a result of its efficiency. These energy efficient new homes are actually designed to reduce your energy bills, lower maintenance costs, increase the value of your home and even help you qualify for some tax rebates and incentives. A lot of times it is hard to see beyond the sticker price of a home; but when you factor in these monthly utility and maintenance savings that come with buying a new home, you really can afford a new home that is about $20,000 more than an older existing home on the market today just based off the home’s energy efficiency! Not to mention the added benefits of reducing your carbon footprint and helping to create a healthier, safer and more comfortable living space for you and your family. BAGI members strive to provide top notch products and services to their customers, and we believe these benefits and values are emphasized through today’s efforts towards producing energy efficient new homes. SPOTLIGHT ON BUILDER STANDARDS:

WOOD FLOORS Wood flooring, because of its nature as a wood product, may expand, contract, cup, and warp due to moisture and temperature variations of the home. The homeowner is responsible for maintaining proper humidity levels in the home. Even with proper humidity levels, changes may still appear as a result of heating and cooling systems.
