BEST BUDDIES Available to grades 6-8 Active throughout the school year Best Buddies is a time for students to socialize and play with special needs peers. Together the students play various board games, card games, file folder games, and do large group games such as a floor puzzle or Uno Attack. Best Buddies must have passing grades to participate and those who help on a regular basis will be able to attend one special activity with the special needs students during the school year.
PEER MEDIATORS Available to grades 6-8 Active throughout the school year The trained peer mediators serve as an early intervention resource for conflict resolution within a school. When a conflict arises between two students, a teacher or staff member can refer the disputants to peer mediation. This means that the peer mediation program advisors will learn some basic information about the nature of the conflict. The program advisors then schedule a time for two peer mediators to work with the disputants. During the mediation, a program advisor will be in the room to ensure safety and comfort, but will allow the mediators to facilitate the mediation process. STUDENT COUNCIL Available to grades 6-8 Active throughout the year Student Council is designated for all students to get involved. In this organization, students discuss school matters and are encouraged to voice their opinions and concerns about these issues. Student Council plans school-wide events and is involved in community service projects. W.E.B. Available to grade 8 Active throughout the year “Where Everyone Belongs” is a group of 8th graders who help others find success. This is a group of 8th grade leaders who will work to build connections at TMS. They help with 6th grade orientation and follow up lessons. The goal is to help all students feel welcome, especially incoming 6th graders. W.E.B. leaders help to make the 6th grade jump to middle school a smooth transition. To become a member of W.E.B., students must apply in the spring of their 7th grade year.
