Sincere apologies for borrowing some of Donald Trump’s and now Boris Johnson’s words. For three years now, for a variety of legitimate reasons, and despite huge efforts from all our officers, our District has not managed to be a Distinguished District. Whilst I will argue that Distinguished is not a perfect measure of greatness it is one that is used to compare Districts and people tend to compare us with our partner District – District 91 in the south of the UK, despite our two demographics being totally different. However, I believe we can be a Distinguished District again if we “hit the ground running” and start improvement initiatives and making changes NOW. ARE WE ALL UP FOR THE CHALLENGE? So what do we have to do? We can all make a difference. 1. Grow Members. Help run two or three Guest/Open Nights in the year. They can bring in many new members. Be proactive in promoting the club – flyers, press articles, social media, etc. 2. Drive up Quality and the Member/Guest Experience. Use Moments of Truth to engage members and get their opinion on areas to improve. Put together an action plan and work on it during the year. Do it again at the end of the year to demonstrate improvement. Vary your meetings to make them more entertaining and FUN! 3. Increase the Number of Education Awards. Pathways give us a great opportunity for every member to gain one or more qualifications during the year. Help and support every member to grow and develop.
