strengthens communities through the sport of fishing. We empower families and communities to celebrate children with special needs, making these children feel loved and valued so they can overcome limitations and be successful. Through an exciting day of fishing, kids, their families, and community volunteers come together for an explosion of fun and inspiration. The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation hosts annual fish-
ing and boating events across America to provide children with special needs a quality outdoor recreational experience.
The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is in its 35th year of celebrating children with special needs by providing free boating and fishing events for them to enjoy the outdoors.
In 2024, the Foundation will hold over 100 events in 35 states. Texas conducts more than twice the events of any other state! You can view a complete National schedule at www.castforkids.org.
At each event, participants receive a free Zebco rod & reel, stocked tackle box, event t-shirt, fishing cap, award plaque, and lunch for everyone, provided by Texas Farm Bureau. A morning of fishing will be followed by the picnic lunch for all and an awards ceremony for the kids. The Bonham Fire De-
partment will have a fire truck to show and EMTs will be present. Volunteer boaters will be taking the kids boating and fishing from 8 am to 11:30 am. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian on the boat. If boat space allows, additional siblings and family members may be able to go boating as well. However, only participants and one parent or guardian are guaranteed to go boating at the event. We need volunteer boaters and corporate sponsors! Anyone who would be like to volunteer with their boat or sponsor this event should contact the Boater event coordinator, LeAundra Ottmo at lakebonham@castforkids. org or (903) 249-0420. Mother's Day
needs that are so often overlooked. No matter who we grow up to be or how far away we roam, sometimes we just need the affirmation of a mom’s gentle hug, soft words and encouragement. Today offers the perfect opportunity to bless the very one who gave us life or brought life into the world we share with her. Let us pray for her! God has given us mothers to carry us, raise us, teach us and mold us into godly people. She is clothed with strength and dignity. She laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks her words are wise and she gives instructions with kindness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her. There are so many virtuous and capable women in the world but you surpass them all! Reward her for all she has done, let her deeds publicly declare her praise. Of course no mother is perfect; not everyone grew up with a loving mother. But every mother out there from the one who feels she was born to be a mom and the one who struggles with her title, all deserve honor for the role God has given them. Today is the perfect occasion to offer this honor and love in word and deed. Show the extent to which we are grateful for all she does every day. I speak this prayer now in gratitude and praise for the gift of mothers. Thank you for their patience and understanding. Thank you for the physical, emotional and spiritual gifts they possess. I pray that you open the heavens so that the world will see and understand the blessings they bestow upon their children. I pray that children throughout the world take time to honor their mothers, that you would show how uniquely you made each one. If there is a phone in heaven, put my mother on the line so I can tell her how much I love her, and the love of my life let me talk with her also.

Planing For Kingdom Growth Here In Fannin
Calvary Baptist Church
Bonham, Texas
As our church and community continue to grow, we must dream of how our church can continue to plan for kingdom growth here in Fannin County.
As we dream of ways to maximize our property here in South Bonham, we have also decided to become a church that effectively plants new churches in our area. Yes, we already have many churches in our area. However, it has been proven that new churches grow faster and reach more people than existing ones. In order for us to become a church that
effectively plant new churches, we must learn what it takes to do so.
Micah Caswell, a church planning consultant with Denton Baptist Association and NAMB, recommended that we partner with a pastor who is currently going through the process of planting a new church to begin building our “church-planting” muscle. Therefore, we begin a partnership with Jonathan Yates today. Please welcome him. He is currently in the process of planting a new church in Van Alstyne. We will begin supporting him through prayer, financial gifts, and manpower.
County
As we walk with him in this journey, we will not only be a blessing to him and his new congregation, but we will also learn so much as a congregation about how to go about planting a new church (or churches)! They are planning to launch this new church, called Van Alstyne Family Church, on Sunday, September 14. This summer, we will have the opportunity to roll up our sleeves and help accomplish this beautiful dream with him. Praise God!
Yours for New Horizons, Lyn and Lissa

In 1847, Henry Francis Lyte wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this passage. This should also serve as our prayer for when we face difficult times.
“Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;the darkness deepens;
In this passage, the writer of Hebrews reminds us that we, as believers, ought to put our trust in the Lord, rather than be down in the dumps about our circumstances. Oftentimes this can be hard to remember whenever we are going through difficult times. We are reminded in 1 Peter 5:7 to bring all of our trials and troubles to Him, because He cares for us with a love that is far beyond our comprehension. We are also reminded in n Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” The Lord has always proven to us that His promises will never run out, and that through His faithfulness, we can be fully confident in Him through His encouragement.
When
Accusations Are Made
Tom Russell, Minister Northside Church of Christ, Bonham
So many (Most/all) of society’s problems would be resolved if people followed the bible pattern regarding how we treat each other. This is certainly true when it comes to making or receiving accusations. Our news is replete with neverending accusations of misconduct. The shoddy reporting and bias are often unmistakable.
“Anonymous sources say ...”, “It has been reported ...”, “The allegations are too important not to accept.”, or something similar is used to justify the latest accusation being made. Well-dressed, grave talkingheads offer up assertions and malicious gossip as “breaking news”. This is the primary reason the credibility of legacy news is at an all-time low with the American public.
Love is the first principle governing whether or not accusations are made or received. Paul tells us that love “believes all things”(1 Corinthians 13:7), the implication of which is that love compels us to believe in the innocence, or best, of another unless we have evidence to the contrary. This isn’t something you are commanded to do if you love another, it is something that love compels you to do. For instance, your love for your children compels you to believe in their innocence unless there is undeniable evidence. We should use the same fair standard when judging the guilt or innocence of another. “Where is the evidence?” is the first question we should ask when a charge is made! Yes, love compels us, but God’s law requires us to accept accusations only if they are accompanied by confirm-
A Time to Die
By Mike Dickison Minister for the Ivanhoe
Church of Christ Solomon wrote that there is “A time to be born, and a time to die” (Ecclesiastes 3:2). Death is something that many fear. While Paule wrote “I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13), death is something that we must all consider. The penman of Hebrews declared, “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). Death is an appointment that every one must keep. David wrote “that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others” (Psalm 49:10). Consider the two rich men that failed to prepare for death. The first was a farmer, who had a bumper crop. He determined to build bigger barns and retire, “But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” (Luke 12:20), then Jesus said “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God” (Luke 12:21). The second rich man allowed a man to die, begging at his gate. Jesus said “it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried” (Luke 16:22). The rich man did “lift up his eyes, being in torments” (Luke 16:23). After the rich man wanted relief, he was told “remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst
thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented” (Luke 16:25). The two rich men failed to make God their priority, thus failing to love their neighbors. We don’t have to fail. We can “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” (Matthew 6:20). We can “be rich in good works” (1 Timothy 6:18). We can have salvation in Christ. Peter declared “Nei-
Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.I need thy presence every passing hour. What but thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
Who like thyself my guide and strength can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.” If you’re looking to find a good home church, we invite you to come visit us, and be a part of our church family and worship at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this coming Sunday! Bro. Josh Stevenson
ing evidence, but what does that look like? Answer: The testimony of a plurality of eyewitnesses. Note the seriousness with which God addresses this under the Law of Moses, “A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established.” Deuteronomy 19:15 This requirement is repeated in the New Testament as well in such passages as 2 Corinthians 13:1, and 1 Timothy 5:19. Let us not judge with bias, naivete, or maliciousness when it comes to accusations. The Lord said, “Do not judge by appearances but judge with right judgment.” in John 7:24. “Right judgment” certainly requires a plurality of witnesses when accusations are made.
ther is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). We should all live our lives that at the time of death, we can say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Jesus “became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him” (Hebrews 5:9). Obey the Gospel!

Streptococcus Zooepidemicus is a pathogen that is often present in the horse’s nasal passages. The horse’s immune system keeps it under control unless the horse is stressed and its immune system defenses are lowered. When this occurs, the Strep Zoo bacteria can then set up in the lungs and cause pneumonia or pleural pneumonia. Long trips in the trailer can stress the horse and cause a respiratory condition often called shipping fever. During transport, Horses are constantly working to keep their balance especially through acceleration, stops and turns. They may have anxiety in the trailer or squabble with other horses. Poor ventilation and temperature changes in the trailer are also contributing factors. All these conditions put a physical and mental strain on the horse, raising their level of cortisol, (the stress hormone), and lowering their immune system function. If the horse has come from a sale and is sick, it is usually from a highly contagious Flu, Rhino, or EHV virus or strangles, not shipping fever. Shipping fever takes hours or a few days to develop after a long trailer ride. Signs are a temperature 102 or more (fever), depressed, and loss of appetite. In pleural pneumonia, there is excess fluid and bacteria in the pleural space between the lungs and the ribs. These horses are
A veterinarian can diagnose the pneumonia by listening to the lungs. Crackling sounds caused by mucous in the small airways, or wheezes cause by constriction of the bronchioles are signs of pneumonia. Ultrasound of the chest and lungs can diagnose fluid in the chest cavity Pleuritis. The horse should be treated immediately with high levels of antibiotics.
Prevention
1. Make sure the horse can lower its head to knee level during travel. Tie him loose or not at all. If the horse has to be tied high, stop regularly and untie so he can lower his head and clear his airways.
2. Protect air quality in the trailer. Dust from shavings, dried manure, and hay can irritate airways causing inflammation. Dampen or don’t use shavings. Soak hay that will be fed on the trip and use a slow feed hay net. If you are traveling through an area with forest fires, close the trailer windows so there is less smoke inside the trailer.
3. Ship only healthy and fully vaccinated horses.
4. Monitor the temperatures of the horses for a week after shipping. They will often spike a fever after 3 pm. Normal temperature is 99- 101.5. If the horse has a temperature of 102 or more it has a fever, and it is time to call the vet. Castration signs: May 14-21
