The Fannin County Museum of History invites the public to enjoy this wonderful exhibit of cast-iron toys.

In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the Industrial Revolution ushered in a new era of toys, phasing out wooden toys for cast-iron toys, which were made by pouring molten steel into sand molds. By the 1940’s as lighter material was available, these cast-iron toys were eventually discontinued.

Kids and adults will enjoy this great collection, which will be on display through the end of January.

His last day will be on the 12th, and I’d like for one of y’all to interview with me. We’ll be going out internally, probably this week.”

DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ITEMS: 14. Discussion and possible action regarding lateral transfer of Sheriff’s Deputy to Deputy Constable, Precinct 1 and continuation of current salary minus certificate and Senate Bill 22 pay – Constable Precinct 1.

I’m a lawyer, and I actually can read the regulations and understand them. I don’t think we need to step down. I think Doug can be added, and we just need to give notice of a possible quorum every time we have a meeting.”

Self replied “We have an attorney that’s from the district attorney’s office that represents that board.” Cunningham responded “Well, I want to sit on it, and I’m concerned about development in this county, and I’m not going to be excluded from keeping an eye on development. Now, do we want to vote on this now, or do we want to pass on it? ”Commissioner Self responded “I’d like to vote on it. I mean, I’d like to see Doug get on there.” Judge Cunningham responded “And take me off.” Commissioner Self made a motion to remove the County Judge and appoint Commissioner Kopf to the subdivision Committee.

The Fannin County Commissioners met on Monday, December 9, 2025 at 9:00 AM for a regular meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court.

Quorum was established with all Commissioners and Judge Cunningham present.

Attendance at start of meeting was 34 citizens present.

5. Vocal Ensemble by Bonham High and Junior High School Choirs – Melody Cherry, Choir Director.

Under the direction of Melody Cherry, the Court was blessed to hear Christmas carols from students.

6. Public Forum. Judge Cunningham opened Public Forum “I want to thank everybody who came to our workshop the other night.

Talked about roads, talked about going from precinct to unitization, talked about the way of possibly doing that, had a lot of input. We did it in the evening, so we had a lot of people who generally don’t get to come to these things during workday. You know, people have jobs that they’ve got to go to. I plan on having more workshops.” County resident, Former Fannin County District Attorney Richard Glaser spoke about a contest he will be rolling out in January. “What can I do to help? So I’ve devised a plan that, It’s gonna be a little contest. I’ve talked to some people that will assist me in this. But we’re gonna figure out… what our roads are like in Fannin County. Via a two-month process starting in January, Through the end of February. Which is the worst

road in Fannin County? Now, I’m offering a $1,000 reward for the person that comes up with the worst road in Fannin County. Hopefully, there will be a lot of entries. They will show what their roads are like, so we can decide what we should do. The next meeting we have, I’ll have it all fixed with rules.” Fannin County resident Sarah Richardson thanked the Court for holding workshops in the evenings, but asked the Commissioner Court to quit being petty and consider the tone of their voices. “Manners matter, all the way around,” ROUTINE ITEMS: 7. LEONARD -- Unfortunate streaks thankfully came to an end during calendar year 2025 for Class 3A Leonard's girls' gym sports teams.

In February, the Lady Tigers made their first girls' basketball postseason appearance since 2020, narrowly losing to much larger Mount Vernon, 48-42, in the bi-district round.

In October, they returned to the volleyball playoffs for the first time since 2019. It took eventual 3A-II State champion Boyd in the area round to stop Leonard, which set a school single-season record for wins in the sport and won its first bi-district match in six tries.

20. Discussion and possible action to have an auction for surplus furniture inventory in storage – Commissioner Precinct 2. There is currently furniture stored in the USDA building that needs to be sold.

The building is being leased by the county and Purchasing Agent Julie Criswell and Commissioner Self want to begin the process to auction off the used furniture. Julie commented “this is a leased building, so this is just another project that needs to be completed so we can release that building.” Commissioner Fogelberg commented

“There’s probably $4,000 worth of furniture down there.”

Criswell commented “We would not use that furniture.

I have no idea how long that furniture’s been sitting in that warehouse. It’s been there for years. And I do not have a current inventory that was given to me for what’s in there, so that does need to be done.”

Judge Cunningham stated “We’ve got furniture that’s in the process of being ordered.

We’ve got stuff that’s going to be in the process of being delivered. We’ve got a bunch of things we need to be looking at. So my question is, if this isn’t urgent or immediate, why jump on it now?” Criswell responded “Your Honor, we’re in critical hours. We’re already in December, the second week of December, and we have only so many weeks before we are to move into the Justice Center, so this is really just a conversation of planning, so that this is one more thing that we can take care of.”

Commissioner Self clarified the discussion “Well, I just

Dale McQueen announces candidacy for Fannin County Treasurer

My name is Dale McQueen, and I would like to introduce myself. Although I have lived in Fannin County for 37 years many of you may not know me personally. Despite that you have probably been some part of the many activities and organizations I have been in charge of over the past 15 years.

For two years you would have seen me at city council meetings throughout the county as I was a writer for The Fannin County Leader.

For ten years I was the Executive Director of the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce, which was $30,000 in debt when I took over and comfortably in the black when I left.

Many Novembers were spent putting up Christmas Decorations around the courthouse square and taking them down again in January. In addition to overseeing the Chamber of Commerce I managed The Fannin County Multipurpose Complex until October 2024.

When I took over in 2013 the Complex averaged 10-12 events a year and was subsidized from their endowment account. By 2023 the Complex was hosting over 125

events per year and self-sustaining financially. You may have been part of the many groups that were able to use the complex for free during this time: County sports associations, FFA, 4-H, Boy Scouts, National Dog Shows, exercise groups, and multiple City and County meetings with the public. I also served as a Fannin County Commissioner from August 2023 to December 2024.

Service for our community has always been an important part of my life and has been on display many times through the years by my work across all organizations and elected offices throughout the county. Whether it was working with County Judges to determine upcoming revenue and budgets, reaching out to others to put them on the right track of who to contact for issues such as the previous ownership of Willow Wild Cemetery, or just working with new groups such as the Red River Beefmaster’s to start up their annual bull and heifer sales.

After input by a group of over 30 people from across the county, I was picked in August 2023 to fill out the remaining term of a County Commissioner that resigned before their term ended in December 2024. In just seventeen months I was able to identify a way for the county to increase their revenue per year by almost a million dol-

lars by just asking questions that resulted in the interest on millions of dollars a year going from 0.1% to 4% per year.

I was also instrumental in making the interest earned on an additional 45 funds kept by the county available for everyone to see each month.

For the 2024-2025 County Budget I identified an additional $500,000 that was due to the county that would have been lost due to a calculation error. During the 2023-2024 budget I identified thousands of dollars that were put into the wrong accounts that were corrected upon discovery.

In addition to the Treasurer duties of overseeing the banking functions of the county finances: Bank account reconciliation’s, receipt of all revenues, and jury checks, the Treasurer should also function as the counties HR department and the counties Payroll administrator. By overseeing these functions, the Auditor’s department can concentrate on auditing the county offices to prevent a repeat of the two major fraud cases that have been found in the past two years.

In Texas, the office of Treasurer does not require an MBA or accounting degree, (I do have a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Agriculture) but it does require someone who is familiar with how the county works and is diligent in overseeing all the functions of the office. I do have experience with the counties’ accounting software and can start work on day one to get more information out to both

The Importance of Fellowship Hello everyone!

This week’s devotion comes from Hebrews 10:25, which tells us, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

We, as believers, should never abandon the opportunity to meet together for worship and fellowship. In the early church, some Christians were leaning away from fellowship, avoiding worship gatherings because of persecution, and becoming spiritually careless and discouraged. The writer of Hebrews encourages us not to set ourselves apart.

Meeting together with fellow Christians is important for worship, encouragement, strength, accountability, and mutual support for the trials that we face. When

we set ourselves apart from these gatherings, it is a very harmful pattern because it weakens our faith, and leaves us more vulnerable to fear and temptation. Rather than setting ourselves apart, we are called to encourage one another. This means urging each other on in the faith, comforting the weary around us, strengthening those that are wavering, and reminding each other of God’s promises.

We must remember that fellowship is not just about coming together, it’s about helping each other remain strong in Jesus Christ. The day approaching refers to the day of the Lord’s return, the final judgment, and God’s plan coming to fruition. As the end draws near, trials increase, temptation grows, and spiritual deception gets more intense. Therefore, we need fellowship now more than ever.

In 1819, George Askins wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this passage.

“Brethren, we have met to worship And adore the Lord our God; Will you pray with all your power, While we try to preach the Word?

All is vain unless the Spirit Of the Holy One comes down; Brethren, pray, and holy manna Will be showered all around.

Brethren, see poor sinners round you Slumbering on the brink of woe; Death is coming, hell is moving, Can you bear to let them go? See our fathers and our mothers, And our children sinking down;Brethren, pray and holy manna Will be showered all around.”

The Universal Way To Heaven

By Mike Dickison Minister for the Ivanhoe Church of Christ How many ways are there, to heaven? Some would say, “infinite ways to heaven,” while others would say, “many ways to heaven,” still some would say “more than one way to heaven.” The Bible declares ONE universal way to heaven.

The universal way to heaven is through Jesus. The Lord stated, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Peter preached “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Paul told Christians that “God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ” (1

Thessalonians 5:9). Timothy received this message from Paul, “Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory” (2 Timothy 2:10).

The universal way to heaven is through the gospel of Jesus Christ. All must believe the good news of salvation in Christ. Paul declared boldly that he was “not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16) The crowd in Antioch in Pisidia were told “to you is the word of this salvation sent” (Acts 13:26).

Christians in the first century “trusted, after that they heard the word of truth, the gospel of their salvation” (Ephesians 1:13).

No More Walls

by Wil Pounds The Jewish temple had a “no trespassing” sign that prevented all non-Jewish persons from going beyond a certain area. It was enforced on the punishment of death. The nonJews could go only so far as the Court of the Gentiles, and the Jewish women could go only so far as the Court of the Women.

The temple was surrounded by courts that formed layers of separation from the inner shrine of the Holy of Holies. The innermost court was the Court of the Priests who constantly attended the daily sacrifices and led in the worship of Yahweh or the LORD God. Next was the Court of Israel into which only Jewish men could enter and worship. After this was the Court of the Women, which indicated, that Jewish women could go no further into the temple. The outer perimeter was the Court of the Gentiles with a five-foot barricade that went around the entire temple enclosure. At intervals on the wall separating the Jewish from the non-Jewish people were

inscriptions warning that no non-Jewish persons were ever permitted to enter the Jewish enclosure upon the punishment of death.

Archaeologists found such a stone inscription in 1871 dating back to the Jewish temple.

It read, “No foreigner is to enter within the banister and embankment around the sanctuary.

Whoever is caught will have himself to blame for his own death which follows.”

The bottom line was, “Trespassers will be killed.” In fact, the apostle Paul almost got himself killed in the temple because of false rumors that he took a Gentile into the sacred area (Acts 21:27-31).

Jesus tore down the wall. No, He did not do it with His hands.

He did it with His cross. “But now in Christ Jesus you who used to be far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13 NET).

Powerful is the message of the cross. Paul goes on to describe the effects of the blood of Jesus on the wall of separation. “For he is our peace, the one who

en is through Christ’s plan.

Jesus said, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Peter speaks of faith, “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:9). Paul wrote that “godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death” (2 Corinthians 7:10). Paul reminded Christians “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). Christ said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:16).

The Lord declared “he that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:32). made both groups into one and who destroyed the middle wall of partition, the hostility . . .

He did this to create in himself one new man out of two, thus making peace, and to reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which the hostility has been killed . . .” (vv. 14-16 NET). The sin barrier between man and God was removed by the death of Christ and as a result man is reconnected to God. Jesus provided the only way that man can approach God. He effectively removed the dividing walls.

It is through Christ Jesus we both [Jewish and non-Jewish] have our access in one Spirit to the Father (v. 18). The result is “you are no longer foreigners and noncitizens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household” (v. 19). The cause of the perpetual hostility has been removed.

Sin was dealt with at the cross.

The enmity has been so completely laid aside that complete friendship follows. Where there was hostility Christ has accomplished reconciliation. We are at peace with God.

Our beloved Mother, Marlene Calloway, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025 at the age of 84.

Born on July 1,1941 in Kansas City, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth & Eleanor Frye, brother Ronald Frye, & husband’s Gene Chandler & Earl Calloway.

She was a citizen of Trenton, Tx & is currently survived by her children in order of birth: Darrell Chandler of Greenville, TX, Randell Chandler of Stonewall, OK, Sherry Chandler of Orlando, FL, a daughter-in-law, 3 grandchildren, & numerous step grandchildren.

Marlene’s warmth, laughter, & unconditional love filled our lives with joy.

She was happiest among her family and friends, serving God as a church secretary and choir member, listening to music, dancing with family, and good times with good company.

She was a devoted mother & animal lover, often donating to animal charities & making sure her children lacked for nothing.

Her patience & humor shaped us into who we are today. We’re grateful for every memory & moment shared. She will never be forgotten & will always be cherished.

Luther George Littrell

Luther George Littrell, affectionately known as “Luke,” passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, in Bonham, Texas. Born on April 30, 1926, in Marlow, Oklahoma, Luke lived a full and rewarding life, which he dedicated to family, work, and his community. Luke’s goal was to make it to 100 years old and came close at 99.5. The half was very important to him. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home in Bonham.

Luke’s professional journey began as a machinist and welder, culminating in his retirement from Fiberite in Greenville, Texas, in 1993. His skills and dedication to his craft were matched only by his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Luke was a problem solver at heart, known for his ability to repair anything, a talent that endeared him to those

around him.

Having grown up in a large family, with eight brothers and three sisters, Luke learned the values of hard work and resilience early in life. As a young boy, he labored on the family farm, nurturing a lifelong love for raising livestock and caring for animals. This connection to rural life not only shaped his work ethic but also instilled a deep appreciation for nature and family bonds.

Luke’s service to his country during World War II is a testament to his character. He proudly served in the Army Airforce in the Philippines, an experience that further cultivated his sense of duty and commitment to his community.

He is survived by his son, David Littrell and his wife Gale, along with his daughter, Jean Littrell. Luke cherished his family dearly and often spoke of their importance in his life.

Luke is predeceased by his beloved wife, Inez Littrell, and his son, Mike Littrell. He also mourns the loss of his parents, C.R. and Wilma Littrell, as well as his brothers Bill, Pete, Junior, Donald Littrell, and his sister Jackie Littrell. His legacy includes his cherished granddaughter, Shawn Eaton, and grandsons Jeremy Littrell and wife Gina, Clint Littrell, A.J Littrell, and Kevin Littrell. His great grandchildren, Jack Littrell, Brooke Phillips, Charlie Littrell, Audrey Littrell, and Natasha Littrell, are a source of pride and joy in his family’s lives.

Luke will also be missed by his sisters, Ruby Eaton and her husband Craig, and Geraldine Cross, as well as his brother, Melvin Littrell and his wife Mary. He leaves behind sisters-in-law Dorothy Littrell and Kathy Littrell, numerous nieces, nephews, and special family friends who will remember him fondly.

A visitation for Luther George Littrell was held on December 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Wise Funeral Home located at 219 W Sam Rayburn Dr, Bonham, Texas. Burial followed at Forest Grove Cemetery in Telephone Texas with Military Honors.

Luther George Littrell’s life was a rich tapestry woven from love, hard work, and dedication.

He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Vera Nell Dickey Vera Nell Dickey passed away on December 6, 2025, at Rock Creek Health facility in Sulphur Springs, Texas after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Bonham on September 9, 1926, to Cromer and Ethel Crutcher. She married L.H. Dickey on August 3, 1945, and he preceded her on January 3, 2006. She and L.H. owned and operated Dickey’s Grocery Store in Bonham for about 20 years. She later went to work at Bonham MFG until it closed.

Survivors include her daughter Doris Bryant and husband Roy of Yantis, Texas; Grandson Jeffrey Jones of Bonham, Texas; Great-Grandson, Justin Jones and Liz of Sherman, Texas; and Great Great Granddaughter Jaelyn Jones of Sherman, Texas. She is also survived by a brother Paul B. Crutcher and wife Becky of Bonham, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Cromer and Ethel Crutcher, brothers Charles Crutcher and Marlin Crutcher and sister Ruby Jean Bivins. She was also preceded by three nephews.

Visitation was held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday December 9, 2025, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home. Service was Wednesday December 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home. Burial followed at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham. The service was officiated

David Dewayne Hunt

David Dewayne Hunt, 64, of Bailey, Texas passed away on November 19, 2025 with his beloved wife at his side. He was born on October 12, 1961, in Lockney, Texas, the son of Joe Grady Hunt and Betty Lou Elledge Hunt. David was known for his dependable nature and embodiment of true friendship.

David was a craftsman with a talent for building and repairing. He proudly established his own business, DDH Roofing and Home Repair, in 1993, where he used his skills and work ethic for over three decades. David was known as a jack of all trades. His legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and a sincere desire to help others. David married Michelle Renay Smith Hunt on April 24, 1990, in Bailey, Texas. Together they shared a loving 35 years full of memories.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Betty Hunt, daughter, Betty Sue Hunt, and brother Joe Arthur Hunt.

Cathy Cain Elmore, 68, of Blossom, Texas passed away on December 6, 2025, at Paris Regional Hospital. Born on April 29, 1957, in Bonham, Texas, Cathy was a lifelong resident of Texas. A proud graduate of Honey Grove High School, Class of 1975.

Cathy had a profound love for the outdoors, often spending her free time camping and fishing. Her adventurous spirit and appreciation for nature brought joy to all who knew her. Cathy’s kindness and warm heart touched the lives of many.

Wanda Faye Francis Worsham

Wanda Faye Francis Worsham, born on May 15, 1945, in Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home of natural causes on December 7, 2025. A devoted homemaker, Wanda dedicated her life to her family, creating a warm and nurturing environment for those she loved. She is survived by her two children: daughter, Allison Worsham Barker and son, Warren Keith Worsham, both of Allen, Texas as well as four cherished grandchildren: Olivia Barker, Elliott Worsham, Ava Worsham, and Knox Worsham. Wanda also leaves behind her baby sister, Judy Snider of Whitesboro, Texas and big brother, Donald Francis of Bells, Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda and her husband, Keith, graduated from Sherman High School in 1963. They married on June 28, 1968 and were happily married for 28 years before his sudden passing in July of 1997. She was employed by Texas Instruments in the 1960’s and 1970’s, proud of her work on some of the first ever created microchips. In the 1980’s, she turned her love for babies into a position as an infant caregiver at Allen Meadows Day School.

Wanda was a voracious reader with a passion for mysteries and current events. She was also an estate sale enthusiast. An animal lover at heart, Wanda had a special connection with pets, always caring for the neighborhood strays with kindness and affection.

Wanda’s life was marked by countless memorable moments shared with her family, who will fondly remember her beautiful smile, sense of humor, stubbornness and unwavering support. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Wanda is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Keith Daniel Worsham, father, Daniel Lee Francis and mother, Dorothy Helen Francis Houser.

Arthur Frank Boehler

Arthur Frank Boehler, age 95 of Paris, TX was born at home in Michigan Prairie, Fannin County on January 26, 1930, to Frank Boehler and Willie Mae Phillips Boehler and lived in Honey Grove for most of his life. He went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9, 2025, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family.

During his life he was a farmer, machine operator, hunter and fisherman and served in the Army in the Korean War. But his greatest love was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He went to as many every day and special events as he could for each of them.

Pursuant to Section 372.009(c) and (d) of the Texas Local Government Code, as amended (the “Act”), notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Leonard, Texas (“City”), will hold a public hearing to accept public comments and discuss the petition (the “Petition”), filed by Leonard Crossings Partners LP, a Texas limited partnership (the “Petitioner”), requesting that the City create the Tiger Crossing Public Improvement District (the “District”) to include property owned by the Petitioner and further described herein (the “Property”).

Time and Place of the Hearing. The public hearing will start at 6:30 p.m. on January 20, 2026 at the City Hall, 111 W. Collins, Leonard, Texas.

General Nature of the Proposed Authorized Improvements. The proposed public improvements may include: (i) design, construction and other allowed costs related to street and roadway improvements, including related earthwork, sidewalks, drainage, utility relocation, signalization, landscaping, lighting, signage, off-street parking, and rights-of-way; (ii) design, construction and other allowed costs related to improvement of parks and open space, together with any ancillary structures, features, or amenities such as trails, playgrounds, walkways, lighting, and any similar items located therein; (iii) design, construction, and other allowed costs related to sidewalks and landscaping and hardscaping, fountains, lighting, and signage; (iv) design, construction, and other allowed costs related to water, wastewater, and drainage (including detention) improvements and facilities; (v) design, construction, and other allowed costs related to projects similar to those listed in subsections (i) - (iv) above authorized by the Act, including similar off-site projects that provide a benefit to the property within the District; (vi) special supplemental services for improvement and promotion of the District; (vii) payment of costs associated with operating and maintaining the public improvements listed in subparagraphs (i) (v) above; (viii) payment of costs associated with developing and financing the public improvements listed in subparagraphs (i) - (v) above, which may include but are not limited to, costs associated with the issuance of revenue bonds secured by assessments levied against the Property within the District; and (ix) costs of establishing, administering, and operating the District (collectively, the “Authorized Improvements”). These Authorized Improvements shall promote the interests of the City and confer a special benefit upon the Property.

Estimated Cost of the Authorized Improvements. The estimated cost to design, acquire and construct the Authorized Improvements, together with bond issuance costs, eligible legal and financial fees, eligible credit enhancement costs and eligible costs incurred in establishment, administration and operation of the District is approximately $8,000,000.

Proposed District Boundaries. The District is proposed to include approximately 45.1515 acres of land to be included within the corporate limits of the City and as more particularly described by a metes and bounds description available for public inspection at the office of the City Secretary, 111 W. Collins, Leonard, Texas.

Proposed Method of Assessment. The City shall levy assessments on each parcel within the District in a manner that results in imposing equal shares of the costs on property similarly benefited. All assessments may be paid in full at any time (including interest and principal), and certain assessments may be paid in annual installments (including interest and principal). National Central Road Marker Text: Created 1844 to connect Texas Republic with the United States. Route began in Dallas, to go to Kiomatia Crossing of Red river.

Surveyed by Maj. George W. Stell, road was to be 30’ wide and clear of tree stumps more than a foot high. Route ran north of land of John H. Loring (1 mi.E of present Ladonia), coming eastward to make abrupt north turn here and push over Sulphur River at crossing named for Isaac Lyday, who came here in 1836. A small segment of the road may still be seen (1972) skirting Lyday Cemetery in the W. D. Wehrmann, Jr., pasture, just east of FM 904, southwest of Dial.

Location: The marker was stolen.

It was previously located at the juncture of FM 904 and Highway 64.

Bonham, Texas – The Creative Arts Center in Bonham has many activities planned for the holiday season.

Kidz Krew Christmas Dinner Theatre will have two shows only. Friday, Dec 19 and Saturday, Dec 20 at 7 pm in the main gallery of the art center. Tickets are $20 each and include dinner and the show. Tickets must be purchased in advance before noon on Dec 18 or before they are sold out. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Art Classes – The Center continues to have a wide variety of art classes scheduled for all ages. Gel Plates with Wanda Oliver will be held on Dec 16 and Jan 29 from 10 am to 4 pm. Junk Journal Club will meet on Dec 17 and Jan 28 from 2-4 pm. Garden Charm Workshop with Michelle Haynes will be held on Dec 18 from 11 am to 2 pm.

Oil Pastels with Tatiana Murray will be on Dec 19 from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

In the new year, there will be many of the regular art classes, plus some new ones.

Kids Embroidery with Sandy and Beginner Macrame with Kristi will be on Jan 10.

Other Classes –Kristi Dunbar teaches yoga on Tuesdays at 6 pm and Jenny Schero teaches chair yoga on Wednesdays at 1 pm. Classes are $10 each for members and $15 each for non-members. Poetry at the Art Center is a free monthly gathering of folks who enjoy reading and listening to poetry. The next one is set for Jan 22 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Starting in January, there will be a book club that meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month. Details will be posted on the website soon.

The Art Center’s normal hours of operation are Tuesday – Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to noon. Be sure to remember the center’s art gallery and gift shop when doing your holiday shopping. The center will be closed from December 24 to January 1.

Bois d’Arc FAIR. Normal stain; 50 degrees; 2.05 below pool. Bass are fair to good mid morning to the afternoon in 5-8 feet of water suspending jerkbaits around pond dams and bushes. Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits are working around grass and bushes in 4-6 feet. Texas rigged creature baits fished very slow around old road beds and big trees are fair in 5-8 feet.

Crappie are excellent on tree tops in river channels with minnows on a 1/16 ounce jighead. Crappie can be found from the 897 Bridge to the dam. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service.

Texoma GOOD. Water stained; 57 degrees; 0.32 feet above pool. Striper fishing for better quality fish is getting hotter as water temperature cools into the 50s.

Swimbaits and sassy shad early are catching bigger fish on structures in 10-20 feet. The deadstick bite is really taking off, drifting flukes 50-65 feet of water. Live bait with medium-large gizzards is still catching fish on Main lake points and ledges 25-40 feet of water. Catfishing in the deep water is starting to produce more big fish with the water temperature continuing to fall, 40-60 feet of water on deep flats drifting large cut baits. Crappie fishing will continue to improve as the water temperatures have fallen into the mid 50s and the crappie start to settle in on structure and brush piles in 20-30 feet of water.

Before Bowie County wardens, working with Arkansas Game Wardens, could visit the suspect’s house, however, the original caller reached out again to say the supposed warden was back at the spillway, making the same claims. A warden immediately headed to the spillway, where he observed the suspect in action and wearing law enforcement gear, though he was unarmed. As the suspect was heading back to his vehicle, the warden intercepted him for questioning. The man denied all claims, stating he was there because he worked for a road construction company. After getting statements from witnesses, the warden obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect who later turned himself in. Charges are pending.

I mean, we’re really sharing, and I know that wasn’t in the past, because I had some… a commissioner sit right here and say he wasn’t going to share his equipment, because we tear it up. Well, that’s when I started saying, I will repair what I borrow, and I borrowed a roller from AJ, and I repaired it. And as long as we can do that. We’re… it’s a win-win.

Well, pooling equipment, I’m not going to argue against that, whether it’s done through unitization or voluntarily.”

Brea Smith, DVM Leonard Animal Clinic Litter box issues are extremely frustrating for many cat owners and a common reason cats get surrendered to animal shelters. Cats get most of their water intake through their diet and don’t drink enough water. Feeding canned food can help flush the bladder and using kitty water fountains can also be helpful but problems can still occur.

It is rare for a cat under 10 years old to have a uri-

nary tract infection.

However, there are multiple medical reasons that will prevent a cat from using the litter box: kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or bladder stones. As veterinarians, we must eliminate the possibility of all medical problems.

To do so the cat will need: blood work, to look at internal organ function; a urinalysis, and an x-ray to check for stones.

If all medical reasons can be ruled out, that leaves a diagnosis of “idiopathic cystitis.” This is inflammation of the bladder of unknown cause, it is a behavioral problem often linked to stress. The inflamed bladder leaks red and white blood cells into the urine. It is also painful, so cats start to avoid the box since it causes pain but feel like they have to go frequently. In male cats, this can become life threatening because the cells in the

urine can form a clot and block their urethra, preventing them from being able to empty their bladder and building up toxins in their blood stream.

Litter box factors must be assessed and adjusted when the cat stops using it. There should be one box for each cat in the household plus one extra and they need to be spread out in different rooms.

Make sure the box is not in an area that may scare the cat, like the laundry room or near a furnace or other noisy appliance. Most cats prefer clumping clay litter, not pellets or crystals, and they may refuse to use a different scent or texture. The boxes should be cleaned at least once daily; the Litter Genie can make this task easier. Size is another important issue since most commercial litter boxes are not large enough for Texas-sized cats. The box needs to be 2x the length and width of the cat so they have plenty of room, and typically uncovered.

There are multiple environmental factors that can also help to get your cat toileting in the correct spot again, including enrichment activities, Feliway, and Calming Care; but some cats do need anxiety medication. It is important to talk to your veterinarian early because the longer the problem persists the more difficult it can be to manage.

Unfortunately, this is another cat problem that cannot be “fixed” but there are many management tools to improve the cat, and owner’s, quality of life.

By Tim Meek Tarzan And The Tree Our home on Garrison Street in Ft. Worth, Texas was surrounded by trees, especially the back yard. There was a cottonwood tree in the front yard that fell on my sister Connie during a storm..That’s another story however. This is the adventures of Tim the Tarzan at a ripe age of 7 years old. There was a huge oak tree in the back yard, I know it was at least a 40 footer with sprawling limbs and trunk the diameter of an eighteen wheeler tire. My brother Cleatus had positioned the swing set perfectly in relation to the trunk with the purpose of attaching a rope to a high limb and doing the Tarzan swing form the top of the swing set. Yes, standing on top of the swing set. He made several swings successfully and then offered (ordered) me to take the next swing.

What happened next stays with me until this day, 62 years later. It was a Sunday and for some reason we skipped church and stayed home with dad. My Mom and sister Connie went to church

on schedule and the men were left alone. Bad, bad...news. I climbed the swing set, grabbed the rope, let out my best Tarzan yell and did a swing right into the trunk of the tree with my head, did a couple turns and hit it again. I dropped straight to the ground crumpled up in the fetal position, out like a light.

Cleatus runs in the house to get Dad and by now I am awake and bleeding from the hole in my head, that’s right, a hole in my head. The ER Dr. said after stitching me up that another 1/4 inch and, well, you know, cracked skull.

I survived, no spankings after this event, just a lot of quiet nodding and, “nothing happened here.”

The swing was moved, the rope taken down and we moved on to the next challenge for our poor Guardian Angels.

(Note: about 10 years ago I had to get scar tissue removed from the top of my head, my comb kept hitting a knot on my head. Wonder where that came from?)
