We think of you in silence, We often speak your name, But all we have are memories, And your picture in a frame.
Harold Ashlock OBITUARIES
Harold Ashlock completed his race on May 1, 2025, a race he had ran faithfully his whole life. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Harold spent his last couple of days calling as many lifetime friends as he could to say he loved them and appreciated all the memories and years of friendship. A devoted husband, father, papaw, son, brother, and uncle, Harold left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
For over two decades, Harold was well known as the owner and operator of Ashlock Motors Company. His dedication to his work and his community made him a respected figure in the area. After retiring, he found joy in playing golf with friends and family, cherishing the time spent together on the course.
Harold was never without a story to share. One of his most cherished testimonies was how God healed him after a cancer diagnosis—a story he shared often with those he met in hospitals, doctor’s offices, or anywhere he felt led to offer encouragement. His words brought comfort and renewed hope to many.
A man of deep faith, Harold grew up attending Living Word Church of God and became a faithful member at the age of sixteen. His love for God remained steadfast throughout his life, guiding his actions and shaping the way he led his family— always by example.
Harold’s legacy is one of faith, resilience, and compassion. He touched countless lives through both his personal witness and everyday kindness. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all his and our family and friends for being there in so many ways, your prayers, calls, food, visits, your presence. The family would also like to say a special thank you to Bobby Richardson, for truly being a phone call away at a moments notice. Thank you to Deanna Smeaton for always going above and beyond. Hospice Plus, you were truly a blessing to our family in our hour of need.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Jean Ashlock, parents, Willie and Lillie Ashlock, son, Brian Ashlock, grandson, Chris Ashlock, great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Ashlock, Dani Blaschke, brothers, BW Ashlock, Hershel Ashlock, sisters, Eula Moss, and Essie Ashlock.
Harold is survived by, daughter, Sheryl Aderholt (Norman), son, Lonnie Ashlock (Beverly), grandchildren, Rusty Brinlee (Tara), Michael Brinlee (Jenny), Brandon Ashlock (Stephanie), Clint Ashlock (Jeanne), Brian Ashlock II (Rachael), Felicia Harper (Terrance), Tony Davis, great-grandchildren, Kelsea Palmer (Matt), Kayleigh Brinlee, Ariel Wolff (Mike), Abby Martin, Taylor Quinn Brinlee, Rusty Brinlee Jr., Ashlyn Brinlee, Grayson Brinlee, Elijah Harper, Koha Harper, Cypress Harper, Haven Harper, Rylie Ashlock, Dallas Ashlock, Isaac Ashlock (Katie, Kaylin Ashlock, Kaylee Ranton (Kye), Elliott Ashlock, Lorelei Ashlock, Gavin Collier, Seven Collier, great-great-grandchildren, Stetson Ashlock, Hayden Palmer, Luke Palmer, Jasper Palmer, Bella Wolff, Ava Wolff, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 6pm to 8pm at Wise Funeral Home. The funeral will be the following day Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 1pm. at the Living Word Church of God with Eddy Prince, Dwayne Evors, Brian Rayburn and Ernie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
1-4 tsp. lemon juice
These thick and soft lemon blueberry blondies are the ultimate summer dessert! They are easy to make without a mixer and each one is bursting with juicy blueberries. With a drizzle of sweet lemon icing on top, everyone is sure to love them!
LEMON BLUEBERRY BLONDIES
1 c. granulated sugar
2 tsp. fresh lemon zest ¾ c. salted butter, melted 1 large egg
2 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ c. all-purpose flour
¾ tsp. baking powder
1 ½ c. fresh blueberries
Icing:
1 c. powdered sugar
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line an 8X8 baking pan with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and baking powder until evenly combined. Then, add the blueberries to the bowl and toss them in the flour mixture until well coated. This coating of flour prevents them from sinking to the bottom of the blondies. In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, lemon zest, and melted butter until smooth. Then, whisk in the egg and vanilla until fully combined. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir gently with a spoon until all ingredients are just combined. Do not over-mix the batter, and be careful not to crush the blueberries! Transfer the thick blondie batter to the prepared pan. Gently press extra blueberries into the top of the batter before baking, if desired. Bake the blondies for 40-50 minutes or until the edges of the blondies are lightly golden. Let the blondies cool in the pan. While they cool, mix the icing. Whisk together the powdered sugar with one tsp. of lemon juice at a time. Slowly add more lemon juice to achieve a “drizzle” consistency. If too thin, add more powdered sugar to thicken it slightly. Drizzle the lemon icing evenly over the cooled blondies. Slice into 12 bars. For extra flavor, mix ½ cup of white chocolate chips into the batter before baking if desired. I hope you will try these! ENJOY!!!

Overflows During the Heavy Rain
Dear Residents of The City of Leonard,
On May 6th, 20025, the City of Leonard experienced a deluge of rain, topping 2 inches.
Fannin County:
With the already saturated ground conditions, our sanitary sewer system took on an enormous amount of Inflow and Infiltration (I&I), which has inundated our wastewater system. You may have noticed manholes and cleanouts overflowing, perhaps your toilets aren’t flushing well, or other side effects from this event.
This memo is to inform you that we are aware of the issues. We also want to assure the citizens of Leonard that the city is addressing these issues. Recently, we purchased an upgraded pump at the Wastewater Treatment Plant that helped mitigate the length of this event. Shortening the overflow by many hours. We also removed a 9” piece of cement in one of the 10” sewer mains that was wedged nearly immovable in

the pipe, choking off flow and causing major back up. Along with these changes, we have also begun a large sewer line upgrade along Hwy 69 that will reduce I&I by a percentage. Lastly, we have a multimillion-dollar upgrade coming to 4 main lines in the city, over the next 3 years. With each of these overflow events we diligently sanitize the area, record the details of the event, and report to the TCEQ, The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, as per required.
Persons using private drinking water supply wells located within 1/2 mile of the city limits or the potentially affected area should use only water that
has been distilled or boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute for all personal uses including drinking, cooking, bathing, and tooth brushing. Individuals with private water wells should have their well water tested and disinfected, if necessary, before discontinuing distillation or boiling.
The water supplied by your local municipality, whether directly through your faucet or provided to a wholesale customer, is safe to drink and may be used for personal use.

Fishin’ Report
TAKE A KID FISHING or Hunting!
Week of May 7, 2025
Bois d’Arc SLOW. water stained; 67 degrees; 0.08 feet below pool. When you find clear water spawning bass will be there. Topwaters baits are fair early around points and pond dams. Bass are good on flukes and yum dingers around shallow bushes in 2-4 feet, or with Texas rigged creature baits around shallow bushes and big trees in 2-7 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Crappie are excellent despite the rise in water the clarity is still good. Fish are starting to congregate in 9-25 feet of water along bank lines, brush and timber for a summer pattern. Minnows are best, but some can be caught in jigs. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service.
Cooper SLOW. Water stained; 60 degrees: 2.00 feet below pool. The lake is on the rise and the crappie bite is tough. The clarity is very muddy so you will have to get the jig right on the nose of the crappie to get a bite. Forward facing sonar or livescope will help. Fish are off the timber roaming between the timber in 2-15 feet of water. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service.
Fork GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service.
Lavon GOOD. Water lightly stained; 65 degrees; 3.71 feet above pool. Crappie are still spawning and some are in a post spawn. Crappie catches jigging in 2-4 feet of water on trees and bushes, and on the main lake structure in 5-15 feet of water. Best bait has been a 1/16 th ounce hair jig on 6-8 pound line with a 5/8 egg sinker slip weight above. White bass are chasing shad in the morning, be sure to follow the birds. Look for fish in 1-10 feet on main lake points and in the back of coves. When fish are on top throw any color paddle tail swimbaits, otherwise target 15-30 feet after 8 a.m. using a 1 ounce RSR minnow slabs. Channel catfish are starting to spawn in 1-8 feet of water on the riprap. Use slip bobbers with punch bait, chicken liver, or cut shad. Throwing out soured grain works like magic. Try and chum your areas in at least three or four spots before you start fishing. Report by Carey Thorn, White Bass Fishing Texas. Ray Roberts GOOD. Water slightly stained; 70 degrees; 2.84 feet below pool. Crappie are in the post spawn pattern scattered from shallows and starting to congregate on brush for the summer pattern. Largemouth bass can be caught on grass with chatterbaits, weightless flukes, or white swim jigs. There are still some on beds. The backs of creeks are stained main lake water clarity is normal stain. Catfish are on shallow flats cut bait. White bass are good in the creeks or chasing balls of shad beneath birds with moving baits. Report by Daniel Koberna, Lt. Dan’s Crappie Co. Tawakoni GOOD. Water lightly stained; 64 degrees; 1.24 feet above pool. Water is above pool so check ramp status and navigate with caution watching for floating debris. Tawakoni continues to fish well and the shad spawn is in full force. Hybrid stripers and white bass are good on artificial lures such as slab spoons and swimbaits. Key depths have been 2-10 feet and we are seeing the final part of their spawn. The eating sized catfish bite is great and limits of solid eating sized blue catfish are common. Cut shad, cut carp, and cut buffalo are working best in 1-5 feet is the depth you want to target. Crappie fishing is improving with a post spawn pattern in 8-12 feet on jigs and minnows. The largemouth bass bite is good on frogs and smaller trick baits and flukes. Target the small pockets behind the flooded willows and bushes. Report by Captain Michael Littlejohn, Lake Tawakoni Guide Service.
Texoma FAIR. Water stained; 62 degrees; 16.32 feet below pool. Lake Texoma is flooded, several feet above normal pool level. The majority of ramps and marinas are closed or had to cut power off. We are getting more rain this week and there is a lot of debris in the lake. Report by Jacob Orr, Lake Texoma, Guaranteed Guide Service. Limits of striped bass are possible with slabs. The key will be to find fishable water. The topwater bite is inconsistent and few bites will come with swimbaits. The water level is very high, but should start to slowly recede. There are a lot of submerged obstacles, floating debris and muddy water on the north and west of the lake so navigate with extreme caution. Report by John Blasingame,
Additional Rainfall Leads To Increased Flooding Around Lake Texoma
By Drury Vaughan
MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) - Rainwater
filled the streets in Tishomingo Tuesday morning, as heavy rains added to the already flooded creeks and streams that feed into Lake Texoma, with the Corp of Engineers
expecting it to crest over 638 feet by next week.
Several campsites will remain closed at Lake Texoma State Park until waters can recede. The Tishomingo Natural Wildlife Refuge also experienced extensive flooding, with several areas closed off and limited access to the park.
Emergency Manager Bill Macon said. Macon says five homes along Lake Texoma on Rock Creek and Kinlock roads have been isolated by rising waters, but says no mandatory evacuations have been issued at this time.

In Marshall County, ten roads are closed off due to major flooding.
Floodwaters have completely covered Watkins Road in Marshall County, as emergency managers are warning drivers to exercise caution and avoid driving into water if you can’t see the road beneath it.
“If the road is closed due to the water, do not go past it, turn around don’t drown, just be safe because it is extremely dangerous,” Marshall County
“Some of them have pulled their campers out, pulled their cars across the road, so they’ll take canoes to get across the road,” Macon stated.
Macon says County Commissioners have been inspecting roadways and putting up barricades for public safety.
“If the ditches or the culverts get blocked up, then the water can come over the roads and cause problems, it can cause the road to undercut or it can completely wash the road away,” Macon added.
Game Warden Field Notes
Bad Idea, This is
A Hays County game warden received an image from a cellphone game camera showing a man and woman trespassing and digging an archeological Native American burial site. The warden went to the property and found the couple in a large hole previously dug by trespassers.
Before the warden could say anything, the man stood up immediately and said he wasn’t digging for arrowheads and hates diggers. The couple were husband and wife out on a date.
They were both detained in handcuffs and separated at the front and back of the warden’s vehicle. The man admitted that he had a glass pipe in his pocket that he uses to smoke CBD oils.
After a quick examination, the Baby Yoda glass pipe revealed small, clear and white crystals that looked like crystal meth.
The warden placed the pipe on the hood and went to the back of the vehicle to speak with the woman. She said she didn’t know the property was private, despite walking past multiple no-trespassing signs.
The warden then walked back to the front of the vehicle and noticed the pipe was no longer on the hood. The man said he didn’t know where the pipe went. Several feet in front of the vehicle, the pipe was found broken in half in the middle of a fresh footprint. Upon further examination of the hole where the couple was found, the warden found a small hand saw and freshly disturbed dirt. The woman’s purse contained several gray rubber gardening gloves, each containing four Native American artifacts. The San Marcos Police Department took the couple to the Hays County Jail. While en route to jail, the man said he believed he had the coronavirus. He leaned forward against the partition and aggressively coughed toward the officers. Both subjects were charged with criminal trespass and Antiquities Code violations. The husband was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and harassment of a public servant. Cases pending.

Connecting the Lake to Customers -Despite
the Cold
Press ReleaseConnecting pipeline from the lake to Upper Trinity’s water supply system was a major feat—done during the coldest week of this year.

equally large pipeline, enabling water to travel the final 20 miles to Upper Trinity’s Harpool Water Treatment Plant where it will be treated and delivered to Upper Trinity’s cities and communities. In order to make the connection to Irving’s pipeline, teams put in a massive “Y” fitting, essentially cutting into a major water artery and welding it back together. The project required
temporarily shutting down the Irving Pipeline (which supplies water to Upper Trinity and Irving), the Harpool Water Treatment Plant, and the Chapman Lake Pump Station. During the shutdown, the treatment plant relied on stored water, and crews completed other key maintenance while this infrastructure wasn’t in use.
“This was a huge operation that took a month of planning in advance and close coordination across all teams,” said Ed Motley, Lake Ralph Hall Program Manager. “Our team worked 14-hour days in freezing rain to get the job done. They were very dedicated and did a great job.”
Crews only took a few days to install the new connection and air-test it for future use. Despite a short delay in pouring concrete (due to freezing temperatures), the connection was backfilled and flowing within the week.

Fannin County Republican Women Award Scholarships
In her essay,“Heroes of the Nation,” Linda Beth highlighted the leadership of George Wash-
ington, quoting his belief that “Agriculture is the most healthful, most useful, and most noble employment of man.”
She beautifully connected this principle to her own mission: to use social media and technology to elevate public awareness and appreciation for the agriculture industry. Linda Beth’s vision of combining tradition with innovation reflects the very spirit of American progress. William Scoggins, valedictorian of Leonard High School, will also be attending Texas Tech University, majoring in mathematics. He plans to pursue a master’s degree and a career in statistics, data analysis, research, or finance. William’s essay, “Defending Democracy,” was a compelling call to civic responsibility. He wrote, “We must teach people to look for the validity of the sources in which they get their information. We should
help people understand bias. And, we need to educate people to understand their role as an active participant and civic responsibility in government and to encourage participation in our democratic process.”
These two exceptional students represent the very best of Fannin County. The Fannin County Republican Women are honored to support their educational journeys and confident that both Linda Beth and William will make meaningful contributions to their fields and communities.
