on Bonham Heritage Day. At 10:00am, City and County officials will welcome representatives of the Caddo Nation & the French Consulate in the courtroom located on the second floor of the Fannin County Courthouse. Members of this distinguished group will then be presented with special Bois d’Arc pens made by Fannin County resident, David Keene. David
d’Arc
has been presenting local and State officials with these pens for over a decade. From swearing in ceremonies to official state visits, these pens have become synonymous with public duty and pride representing our past, present & future. Please note that “commemorative” Bois d’Arc pens will be available for purchase the day of the event at the Creative Arts Center in Bonham. Located at 200 W. 5th St. Bonham, TX 75418.
The public and guests are then invited to the planting of a “special” Bois d'Arc Tree on the grounds of the historic Fannin County Courthouse. This event will start at 11:00am and will be hosted by the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce. The tree was picked out and donated by Texoma’s very own and well-known Bois d’Arc Tree expert, John Baecht. John is the social media creator and administrator of a Facebook Page aptly named, Bois DArc Kingdom, yielding 18,000 plus followers and growing daily. John will have a Bois d’Arc wood working station set up on the grounds of the Courthouse and be doing demonstrations the remainder of the day for Heritage Day. Why the French & the Caddo? The Bonham / Fannin
County connection with Bois d’Arc wood begins in the 1700s when the French explorers came across the Caddo Indians in Northeast Texas.
The French soon realized that the local Indians had a flourishing business trading what the Caddo called “wood of the arc” or “bow wood” with other tribes from a wide area. The French translation of this impenetrable, highly sought after wood is Bois d’Arc. The Caddo were instrumental in teaching the French how to use wood from the Bois d’Arc tree. This gave way to settlements and stability in an otherwise unforgiving land. The word Bois d'Arc was passed down to our settlers who named their territory the Village of Bois d’Arc located on Bois d’Arc Creek. This would be our city’s name until it was renamed Bonham in 1840, after the fallen Alamo war hero James Butler Bonham.
Over 180 years later, the name Bois d’Arc was requested to honor important local history and recognize the Bois d’Arc tree as a distinctive symbol with special significance for the region.
The citizens and officials of Bonham and Fannin County fought to change the name of Texas’ newest reservoir, located in Fannin County, from
The North Texas Municipal Lake to the Bois d’Arc Lake. The U.S. Department of the Interior officially recognized the name Bois d’Arc lake on February 21, 2022. We look forward to our citizens and many visitors enjoying all that Bonham, TX has to offer on May 3, 2025. “Vive le Bois d’Arc - Long Live Bois d’Arc” Event(s) Timeline● 10:00am - Welcome Reception at the Fannin Courthouse (2nd floor Courtroom) ● 10:30am - Bois d’Arc Pen Presentation Fannin County Courthouse (2nd floor Courtroom)

God’s Garden
God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home

making it a time of profound significance for every Christian all around the world. All the Easter bunnies, baby chickens and painted eggs laying in mounds of fake green grass are just symbols to remind us of the renewal of life found in the Easter message. It is a happy message, a glorious message, a message that we should remember all year long. The Resurrection is not just an event but a message of redemption and the promise of new beginnings. It says that through Christ’s sacrifice, humanity has been reconciled to God, offering the hope of salvation to all who believe. The themes of forgiveness, love, and grace are deeply intertwined with Easter, reminding Christians of the transformative power of Christ’s love.

Easter also underscores the victory of light over darkness. For early Christians, the Resurrection was a powerful affirmation of their faith in the face of persecutions and trials. This hope has endured through centuries and generations, inspiring believers to trust in God’s plan even in the most challenging of times. The empty tomb serves as testament to God’s power and faithfulness, instilling confidence in His promises. Beyond its theological significance, Easter brings a sense of community and celebration among Christians. From joyful liturgies and timeless music written by the best composers of any age to festive gatherings among friends and families. It unites people in worship and gratitude where customs such as the Easter vigil, the lighting of the Paschal candle symbolizing the light of Christ dispelling the darkness brings families together, sharing meals and traditions that reflect the joy and renewal of the season. Easter also resonates with broader themes of renewal and rebirth as it coincides with spring, in many parts of the world. The season’s blossoming serves as a metaphor for new life offered through Christ’s Resurrection. This connection to Nature underscores a universal message: after periods of hardship, renewal and growth are possible. In essence Easter is a season of transcendent hope, renewal and the power of faith and grace. Halleluja!!

Due to my battle with diabetes, my slices of cake or pie have become an extreme rarity. When I do get a slice, it’s very, very tiny – more like a sliver! I often think of our Sundays here at Calvary as a slice of heaven. Think of it. There is joy and celebration in the worship of Our Great God. There is an intense focus on Jesus and His Word. Justification Brings Peace With God
Hello everyone!
The Bible tells us in Romans 5:1-2, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
Has there ever been a time in your life when you have felt that there is a separation between you and God? Or a time you think you can’t get close to Him despite your best efforts? As believers, we shouldn’t have these feelings. In this passage, the apostle Paul describes the benefits of our being justified by faith. Yes, we have escaped the wrath of God, but being righteous in His sight means
a lot more than not being punished for our sins. It’s important to remember that Paul is writing to Christians in this passage. He is describing the truths of trusting in Jesus Christ’s work for our salvation. This is made abundantly clear by his explanation of beliefs and faith in the previous chapters. If we believe in the God who raised Jesus from the dead, then we truly have peace with God. In 1815, Thomas Kelly wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this passage.
“We sing the praise of him who died, of him who died upon the cross; the sinner’s hope let men deride, for this we count the world
but loss. Inscribed upon the cross we see in shining letters, ‘God is love’; he bears our sins upon the tree; he brings us mercy from above. The balm of life, the cure of woe, the measure and the pledge of love, the sinner’s refuge here below, the angels’ theme in heaven above.”
If you are looking for a good home church, we invite you to come visit us, and be a part of our church family and worship at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this coming Sunday!

Supporting The Church
By Mike Dickison
Peter wrote, “as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance” (2 Peter 1:12-13). Every Christian should remember that there is a church to support. The church is not the building or the steeple, the church is not a structure, but the people. As we support the church, we are supporting the members of the church, one another. Jesus, after Peter recognized the Lord as “the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16), stated, “I will build my church; and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Jesus is the very reason for the church. The church, the people, was “purchased with his own blood” (Acts 20:28). Peter wrote, “ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ”
(1 Peter 1:18-19). Paul reminded Christians, “Ye are bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 7:23). How do we support the church, the people? We support the church and edify the church by teaching the truth, God’s word. Paul wrote concerning “the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12). Edifying in “the knowledge of the Son of God” (Ephesians 4:13). Edifying also come with a warning, “no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14). Edifying includes, “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). Jesus said, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). How do we support the church, the people? Each Christian supports the church by contributing time, talent, and money. Paul wrote, “the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual
working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love” (Ephesians 4:16). The Lord said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). Luke recorded that “the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea” (Acts 11:29).
How do we support the church, the people? Members of the church support the church by speaking properly. Paul reminded Christians, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29). Again Paul wrote, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (Colossians 4:6). Remember the message of letting “the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:16).

Fishin’ Report
Hunting!
Week of April 2, 2025
Bois d’Arc SLOW. water stained; 59 degrees; 2.54 feet below pool. The lake is low and the bass bite has been really good with fish moving into spawning areas and flats and shallow points. Chatterbaits are good on the flats in 1-4 feet. Yum Dingers rigged wacky style crazy good around flats and weeds and some bushes in 2-4 feet. Designated hitters also good with beavers and craws pitched around shallow big wood 2-5 feet. A new lake record pending at 9.20 pounds was caught this week. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. The predicted rain may slow the crappie bite with an influx of water from the creeks. Expect crappie to be scattered in deep water. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service. Texoma FAIR. Water stained; 60 degrees; 2.98 feet below pool. Target striped bass on structure, ledges and humps in 15-35 feet of water with swimbaits. Fish are roaming deep flats in 40-55 feet of water, with good numbers anchoring up with live bait. Crappie fishing will pick up with the rains and look for fish to move towards creeks. Bigger fish will be roaming 8-12 feet on flats and numbers will be on brush and structure in the mouths of coves and creeks. Jigs and minnows. Bass are near creeks and docks on crankbaits and jerkbaits. Fish will be in small schools, so spend time in a spot you catch one. Spawning fish will be moving up with the inflow and warmer temperature. Catfishing is slow as fish have scattered and they have plenty of bait to eat. Look for numbers in deeper water along ledges on whole shad. Bigger fish will move up with the inflow.
Venom and Vice A Milam County Game Warden received a call on Feb. 1 from a concerned landlord about a tenant reportedly keeping several venomous snakes in an apartment near the Cameron ISD Middle School. Given the nature of the call and the tenant’s history, game wardens from Travis and Williamson counties, along with the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, assisted with the investigation.
Upon contact, the tenant admitted to possessing multiple snakes and allowed wardens to inspect them. Inside the apartment, wardens observed what appeared to be methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in plain sight. A field test confirmed the substance as methamphetamine, and the suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. The tenant’s apartment is located within 1,000 feet of a school, placing the offense within a
designated drug-free zone.
After being Mirandized, he confessed to keeping a monocled cobra, a green bush viper, rat snakes, bull snakes and approximately 25 rattlesnakes— without the required permit or a hunting license.
Due to the presence of the openly visible narcotics, wardens obtained a search warrant, which led to the discovery of additional narcotics, drug paraphernalia and more unlawfully possessed snakes. Wardens seized the reptiles and transferred them to a licensed permit holder who is equipped to care for them.
The suspect now faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1, possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid hunting license and a violation for the lack of a non-indigenous snake permit.
Montgomery County Landowner Ruffles Feathers with Case of Mistaken Identity On the afternoon of Oct. 11, Texas Game Wardens received reports from a caller saying they witnessed a bald eagle shot in Montgomery County. The warden spoke to the landowner who admitted to shooting a hawk that had been harassing his chickens. While searching the property, the warden discovered an injured bald eagle hidden underneath a tarp. The landowner confessed to shooting the eagle and said he planned to try to fix its wing.
The game warden seized the eagle and transported it to a veterinary hospital, where it was evaluated and prepped for surgery to try to repair its broken wing and gunshot wound. Despite best efforts, the eagle ultimately had to be euthanized.
After completing the initial investigation, Texas Game Wardens turned the case over to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), which will inquire into the situation further and file necessary charges. “While we never like to see an incident like this occur, we appreciate the caller’s prompt actions in reporting the violation so Texas Game Wardens could investigate and try to give the eagle its best chance at survival,” said Col. Ronald VanderRoest, TPWD Law Enforcement Director. “We are grateful for our partnership with the USFWS who will help in the prosecution of this crime and hopefully prevent violations of this nature from occurring in the future.”

Allie Faggart defends golf title as Trenton girls win 14-2A Tourney
By Rich Hilliard
WOLFE CITY -- Trenton senior Allie Faggart repeated as girls' individuals champion as the Lady Tigers won the District 14-2A girls' golf team title on March 24 at Webb Hill Country Club to all qualify for regional competition. It equates Faggart's third-
straight regional advance, having done so individually as a sophomore.
Senior Faith Williams (fifth), senior Lexie Williams (seventh), sophomore Ava Faggart (eighth) and sophomore Ryleigh Billue also contributed to the Lady Tigers' championship via their district efforts. The same five Trenton
girls advanced to regional golf last year, as the district's girls' team runnerup -- only one stroke out of winning the title.
Meanwhile, Sam Rayburn's girls to advance as a team to regional play placed second: Kinley Bingham, Chloe Taylor, Alli Jo Hamilton, Jairyn Medcalf and Anniston Walsworth.
