Sexual Assault Awareness

associate sexual assault with strangers or far-away stories, but the truth is, this issue touches every community including ours here in Fannin County. That’s why the work of the Fannin County Family Crisis Center is so vital. Every day, we provide confidential advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling referrals, and support to survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones. We believe that no one should walk this path

alone, and we are committed to standing beside them every step of the way. We’re also proud to share that we are actively working to bring a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program to Fannin County. This initiative will ensure that survivors have access to compassionate, trauma-informed medical care and forensic exams right here at home, without having to travel long distances during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Bringing this program to our county is not just about services, it’s about dignity,

healing, and justice.

This month, as we proclaim April Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Fannin County, we honor survivors and commit to being a community that listens, believes, and supports. We also recognize that awareness is just the beginning. Together, we must continue to educate, advocate, and work toward a future free from sexual violence. On behalf of the Fannin County Family Crisis Center, thank you for your support and for standing with us in this important work.

The county’s paper law library was placed in storage during courthouse restoration and it is only accessible from one computer terminal in the District Clerks office. Judge Cunningham indicated that if approved, the library would be available on-line with searching tools at a minimal cost. Approved

25. Discussion and action regarding additional work at the Justice Center –

Brad Isbell, president of Eikon Consulting Group, and Mike Cohen, senior project manager at Crossland Construction, attended the Commissioners Court to answer questions regarding the Justice Center issues. A wall between court side and county side of the Justice Center and was mistakenly omitted from the architect’s drawing. Mr. Cohen said that the wall, estimated to cost approximately $30,000, would be paid for out of Crossland Construction’s contingency fund. This has been a major disconnect between the Court and Crossland in recent weeks and now there is a solution in place that will not cost the County additional funds..

The next major concern discussed was the condition of the roof at the Justice Center project. Judge Cunningham said the roof was in bad shape and we were told it was initially in good shape.

Minutes from a previous meeting verified that a representative of Eikon had

assured the county that the roof was in good shape. Two independent inspectors have reported serious issues with the roof. The county cannot produce documentation of the condition of the roof when the county purchased the building. Mr. Cohen indicated he would bring in the manufacturer’s representatives to examine the roof. He is hopeful the roof can be properly repaired with the correct materials. A new roof could cost about 1 million dollars.

26. Discussion and possible action to approve grading and asphalt (approx. $215,000.00) or grading and concrete (approx. $576,100.00) for the Justice Center parking lot –Commissioner Precinct 1. Judge Cunningham discussed the fact that this agenda item can be passed on for a couple on months, there is no urgency to address concrete or asphalt parking lot options as there also needs to be a civil study on the parking lot grading.

This decision will not result in any delay or interruption in the over all project which is scheduled for completion late October or early November this year.

27. Discussion and possible action to approve supplemental and modification section to the current purchasing manual – County Judge. This is an ongoing project to streamline the purchasing process for the Commissionaires with a completion date in the month of April. This item was passed on until further discussion next week

is a wonderful cook and happens to be the mother of our daughter in law Jordan. I am happy that she decided to share this recipe with our readers.

HOLIDAY SAVORY CHEESE BALL

2-16 oz cream cheese, softened 8 oz of cheddar cheese, shredded 8 oz. of Colby jack cheese, shredded green onion sliced to taste bacon fried and chopped ½ c. dried cranberries black olives, chopped garlic minced, to taste "secret seasoning"-Tony's Cajun Seasoning to taste Dash of Greek Seasoning

Mix all ingredients in to form a ball and then take a piece of foil and put paprika all over it and roll the cheese ball around until fully coated. You can garnish with pecans or walnuts if you want. Wrapping in foil and put in the refrigerator for about an hour. Take it out and you are good to go. This has been

one of our favorites to make during any holiday. Should make 2 cheese balls.

Thank you Stephanie for this recipe. I hope you will give this a try for your Easter gathering!

ENJOY!!!

Law Library- Recognizing a Need

Simple truth, Fannin County’s Law Library is inadequate and needs to be upgraded and made readily accessible to our residents. A number of years ago, the County Law Library, consisting primarily of books, was removed from its then location at the “old” courthouse to allow for courthouse renovation. It was placed in temporary storage at the District Attorney’s temporary offices and a computer terminal, substituting as a law library, was set up at the District Clerk’s temporary offices. Embarrassingly, this terminal offers limited public access (one user at a time) to the laws governing our County. The law books in storage have not been kept up to date and do not reflect the law as it currently exists. How do we remedy this situation? Times have changed, libraries have changed. In a matter of years, the world has “gone paperless,” and updating the law books and putting them back on the shelves is no longer the answer. The commonsense solution is to put the County Law Library online, making it available to everyone. The cost is negligible. Other counties, including Grayson County, have taken this step; Grayson County Law Library.

Our County Law Library

ideally should contain all laws affecting Fannin County residents and visitors. Laws would include applicable federal, State, constitutions, statutes, regulations and county ordinances. It should also include necessary legal forms to make necessary County filings. By taking advantage of the internet, the County can provide access to federal, State, and university websites, and our County Law Library will be available to the public 24/7 on their personal computers or smartphones. Again, this can be done at little or no cost.

While ignorance of the law is no excuse, this should not excuse county government, or any government for that matter, from making our laws publicly available.

Crockett Park

Marker Text: Named for David Crockett (1786-1836), the colorful Tennessee pioneer and congressman who rallied to cause of Texas in her war for Independence. Late in 1835, Crockett traveled by riverboat, horseback, and on foot, entering Texas along the Red River (NE of here). Camping at a site half a mile northeast of this park, he found wild bees and honey in hollow trees. In letters to family and friends, Crockett called the campsite a “Honey Grove.” It is said he told his friends he would settle here later, but in a few weeks he died in cause of freedom at the Alamo. One of Crockett’s old friends, Tennessee surveyor Samuel A. Erwin (1786-1854), became the first settler here (1839) and first postmaster (1846). Bejamin S. Walcott, arriving in 1848, added land of his own to his wife’s legacy from James Gilmer. With Erwin as co-founder, he platted town of Honey Grove on the Gilmer grant. He also erected first stone building. In 1885, Honey Grove had many businesses, including a weekly newspaper, “The Independent.” Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad reached here in 1887. A peak of 4,000 inhabitants was attained in 1890. Situated on land bought from W. J. Erwin (1919), this park provides recreation for a dynamic community.

But it’s a quiet time. A private time. When the world is dark, and there isn’t yet a hint of pink over the eastern mountains, it’s very good. We can relax. No one is expecting anything from us right now. Our guilt can take some time off, and we can listen to music or work a crossword puzzle or turn on the TV and watch the weather guy discuss millibars and troughs. Soon enough, we’ll have to be out there living for others: our bosses, our customers, our animals, our fields. But right now no one needs us except the dog, and she does well on kibbles and an ear rumple. We can look out the window at the eastern glow and wonder what will happen in the hours until our world turns dark again. People will be born and people will die. People will win honors and people will go to jail. People will create things today that live past them and people will disappear forever. Some people will write about these things and other people will read about these things. And then the world will go dark on us again and we’ll think about what happened in our tiny portion of this huge moving amalgam and hopefully we’ll sleep easily tonight. Then, when we arise tomorrow and head for the coffee pot, we can think about what happened today, and how it has made us slightly different for taking on the next tomorrow. Come to us, Daylight. Bring us the new day. But do it gently, please, and slowly enough for one more cup. ***

on National Agriculture Day, announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is issuing up to $10 billion directly to agricultural producers through the Emergency Commodity As-

sistance Program (ECAP) for the 2024 crop year. Administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), ECAP will help agricultural producers mitigate the impacts of increased input costs and falling commodity prices.

“Producers are facing higher costs and market uncertainty, and the Trump Administration is ensuring they get the support they need without delay,” said

Secretary Rollins. “With clear direction from Congress, USDA has prioritized streamlining the process and accelerating these payments ahead of schedule, ensuring farmers have the resources necessary to manage rising expenses and secure financing for next season.”

Authorized by the American Relief Act, 2025, these economic relief payments are based on planted and

prevented planted crop acres for eligible commodities for the 2024 crop year. To streamline and simplify the delivery of ECAP, FSA will begin sending pre-filled applications to producers who submitted acreage reports to FSA for 2024 eligible ECAP commodities soon after the signup period opens on March 19, 2025. Producers do not have to wait for their pre-filled ECAP application to apply. They can visit fsa. usda.gov/ecap to apply using a login.gov account or contact their local FSA office to request an application once the signup period opens.

Eligible Commodities and Payment Rates

The commodities below are eligible for these peracre payment rates: • Wheat - $30.69

Eligible oilseeds:

Producer Eligibility

Eligible producers must report 2024 crop year planted and prevented planted acres to FSA on an FSA-578, Report of Acreage form. Producers who have not previously reported 2024 crop year acreage or filed a notice of loss for prevented planted crops must submit an acreage report by the Aug. 15, 2025, deadline. Eligible producers can visit fsa.usda.gov/ ecap for eligibility and payment details.

Applying for ECAP

Producers must submit ECAP applications to their local FSA county office by Aug. 15, 2025. Only one application is required for all ECAP eligible commodities nationwide. ECAP applications can be submitted to FSA in-person, electronically using Box and One-Span, by fax or by applying online at fsa.usda.gov/ecap utilizing a secure login.gov account.

If not already on file for the 2024 crop year, producers must have the following forms on file with FSA:

Form AD-2047, Customer Data Worksheet.

• Form CCC-901, Member Information for Legal Entities (if applicable).

Form CCC-902, Farm Operating Plan for an individual or legal entity.

Form CCC 943, 75 percent of Average Gross Income from Farming, Ranching, or Forestry Certification (if applicable).

AD-1026, Highly Erodible Land Conservation (HELC) and Wetland Conservation (WC) Certification.

• SF-3881, Direct Deposit.

Except for the new CCC943, most producers, especially those who have previously participated in FSA programs, likely have these forms on file. However, those who are uncertain and want to confirm the status of their forms or need to submit the

new Form-943, can contact their local FSA county office.

If a producer does not receive a pre-filled ECAP application, and they planted or were prevented from planting ECAP eligible commodities in 2024, they should contact their local FSA office.

ECAP Payments and Calculator ECAP payments will be issued as applications are approved. Initial ECAP payments will be factored by 85% to ensure that total program payments do not exceed available funding. If additional funds remain, FSA may issue a second payment. ECAP assistance will be calculated using a flat payment rate for the eligible commodity multiplied by the eligible reported acres. Payments are based on acreage and not production. For acres reported as prevented plant, ECAP assistance will be calculated at 50%.

For ECAP payment estimates, producers are encouraged to visit fsa.usda.gov/ ecap to use the ECAP online calculator.

More Information To learn more about FSA programs, producers can contact their local USDA Service Center. Producers can also prepare maps for acreage reporting as well as manage farm loans and view other farm records data and customer information by logging into their farmers.gov account. If you don’t have an account, sign up today. FSA helps America’s farmers, ranchers and forest landowners invest in, improve, protect and expand their agricultural operations through the delivery of agricultural programs for all Americans. FSA implements agricultural policy, administers credit and loan programs, and manages conservation, commodity, disaster recovery and marketing programs through a national network of state and county offices and locally elected county committees. Celebration Of Palm Sunday

Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas Palm Sunday. marks the beginning of Holy Week and is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, an event that is described in all four Gospels. The name “Palm Sunday” comes from the palm branches that were laid out in

front of Jesus as he rode into the city on a donkey. This event fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9, which speaks of a king coming to Jerusalem “humble and riding on a donkey.” The celebration of Palm Sunday dates back to the early Christian church. It is a day to truly celebrate Jesus. While we will not be laying palm branches before Jesus in this service, we are

12-18-18

called to lay our lives before Him and lift up our voices with our whole hearts joyfully celebrate King Jesus!

Sing loud. Shout, Lift your hands in worship. Sit. Stand. Kneel. In Christ we have freedom to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

In Celebration of King Jesus, Lyn and Lissa

Sunday Morning Re-wind

He Knows What’s Best

Hello everyone!

The Bible tells us in

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

The world wants us to believe that we are masters of our own fate, and captain of our soul. The world also wants us to live for ourselves and put God and others on the back burner, if they come into consideration to begin with. However, the wisdom that comes from this passage teaches us exactly the opposite. The key to what we should believe is found in the first eight words of verse 5. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart.” We must remember that His understanding of

our circumstances is much higher than our own, and that He knows and wants what is best for us. We may not fully understand or comprehend the situations that we face in this life, but we must remember to put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, no matter what the outcome may be. The lesson we can learn from this passage is that we must trust God’s word more than our own judgment, or our own way of thinking. If we just pray to Him, He will help us lean on His word, and not our own understanding. He will help us to trust Him with all our hearts, and acknowledge His truths and His commands in every facet of our lives.

In 1774, William Cowper penned this classic hymn that comes from the message in

this passage. “God moves in a mysterious way,His wonders to perform. He plants his footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm. Deep in the dark and hidden mines, With neverfailing skill, He fashions all his bright designs And works his sovereign will.

So God we trust in you.

O God, we trust in you. When tears are great and comforts few, We hope in mercies ever new, We trust in you.”

If you are looking for a good home church, we invite you to come visit us, and be part of our church family and worship at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this Sunday!

For The Love Of God!

Many ask the question,

“How can a loving God send a sinner to Hell?” When we understand God’s perfection we must ask, “How can an HOLY God not send a sinner to hell?” We are given EVERY OPPORTUNITY!

God gave opportunity in the days of Noah; “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith” (Hebrew 11:7). Noah was “a preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5). Ninevah was given opportunity “at the preaching of Jonah” (Matthew 12:41), but then later, God was going to “stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation” (Zephaniah 2:13).

God has given many opportunities in the Old Testament. Paul wrote that “whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures

might have hope” (Romans 15:4). While God “is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9), His patience will come to an end, when the King “shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). Paul reminds us, “Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good” (Romans 12:9). Jesus stated, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the

unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:43-48). To be godly we must be “of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous” (1 Peter 3:8). Jesus proclaimed that by “this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). Jude relates the duty of love “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (Jude 21). And John states the proper attitude of love for God, “this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous” (1 John 5:3).

Rebecca (Becky) Lyn Thomas

Rebecca (Becky) Lyn Thomas went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on March 18th 2025 after a lengthy struggle with various health issues.

Her loving husband, Roy, who affectionally called her Becca Lyn, was there every step of the way, caring for her and making her as comfortable as possible.

Becky was born to David Ray and Betty Lee Price on September 4th, 1948 in Bryan, Texas. The oldest of four, she and her siblings were raised on their parents’ farm on the outskirts of Savoy, TX.

At the age of 8, she dedicated her life to the Lord and was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Savoy. Throughout the years, her faith was evident to all who knew her. Always ready to lend a helping hand, Becky was known for being kind, thoughtful and caring. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she met. When necessary, she gave her opinion with candor, but every word she spoke was uttered with love.

On March 22nd 1958, at the age of 9, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She never let it limit her in any way and took it in stride. It became a part of who she was and through that she was able to encourage and help others with the same disease.

She graduated from Savoy High School in 1967, then attended East Texas State University for two years, majoring in homemaking. She married Roy Lee Thomas on June 27th, 1969, and together they spent the next fifty-five years faithfully loving and serving one another. She always said she’d never marry a farmer, but Roy picked it up being around his father-in-law. Later Becky said that it was okay though, because he was only a “hobby farmer” and his main profession was being a construction contractor. They began their married life living in Sherman, TX until Roy was drafted into the Army in September of 1969. After he completed basic training, she joined him in El Paso, TX, where he was stationed. There they welcomed their daughter, Jenny, on October 15th 1970. Once Roy was discharged from the service in September of 1971, they moved back to Savoy. Although she was raised as a country girl, she preferred town life, so they settled down in Savoy. Unable to have any more children, Becky and Roy adopted Jonathan Lee in 1976.

Becky worked several years as City Secretary for Savoy, before working 10 years at Buster Cole State Jail, in Bonham. As a prison supply clerk, she was taught to shoot a pistol and could do so efficiently. She always enjoyed working with and meeting people. She was a faithful church member, serving for many years as financial secretary and Sunday school teacher at FBC Savoy. Being a wonderful singer, she sang in the choir and also could play the piano beautifully. She was usually good at anything she attempted, but her humble spirit stood out, and she was never proud or boastful. Becky loved her family and preferred to go visit her grandchildren over traveling or vacations. Throughout the years, during those visits, she would share her love of Jesus with them and make sure that they knew the Gospel. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year, and she loved to sing happy birthday to Jesus, complete with cake and candle. Her gifts usually consisted of practical things and were always received with joy.

She will be greatly missed, but we know that she is now in the presence of her Savior, whom she loved so much.

She is preceded in death by her parents, David Ray and Betty Lee Price, brother-in-law Charles Casada, and two great-grandbabies.

She leaves behind her husband Roy Lee, daughter Jenny and her husband Jeff Allen, and son Jonathan. Seven grandchildren: Micah and his wife Lesha, Cameron and his wife Bonnie, Katie, Lindy, Jon David, Jon Jr. and Ariana. Three great-grandchildren: Gideon, Acelynn and Mathyus. Three siblings and their spouses: Debbie Casada, Dan and Pam Fitzgerald, Tony and Carolyn Price. Numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses.

Being passionate about missions, Becky always made sure to support our brothers and sisters in Christ once a month with monetary means. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to First Baptist Church Savoy - designated for missions.

PSALMS

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

He served for five years and was stationed in Panama for three of those years as a Tank Commander. He quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant. Billy became interested in the people and problems he encountered there and prepared himself for missionary work. He trained and graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Before he settled down to raise his family Jim served honorably in the US Army enlisting at just 15 years old. Jim was a master carpenter and successful business man. Fishin’ Report

Week of April 9, 2025

Bois d’Arc SLOW. water stained; 60 degrees; 1.45 feet below pool. Water levels are rising and murky. Bass are good on main lake points and flats with chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. Bass are good with Texas rigs on big bushes and standing timber near spawning areas and flats or pond dams in 3-5 feet of water. Wacky rigs around bushes and smaller trees with vines are good in 2-4 feet of water. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Ray Roberts GOOD. Water slightly stained; 65 degrees; 0.47 feet below pool. The spawn is in full swing along the banks with white and chartreuse or natural shad colored jigs, or minnows. Expect an aggressive post spawn bite in 6-12 feet of water the next week or so. Catfish are shallow on secondary wind blown points, or beneath shad off of creek channels with cut bait. Largemouth bass are staging on secondary points hitting slow moving swimbaits, or along grass edges with chatterbaits. White bass are good in moving water in the creeks white road runner or curly tail worm.

Texoma FAIR. Water stained; 60 degrees; 2.12 feet below pool. Striper fishing is about to break loose on live bait as we get closer to the shad spawn and the water temps hitting 60. Plenty of fish being caught on flats and ledges in 25-45 feet of water, bigger fish will hopefully finish their spawn this weekend with the full moon. Find dirty warmer water near the ends of the lake and look at points in shallow water for spawning fish. Look for crappie in the creeks with inflow and watch the rising water temps this week. Fish will be on shallow flats and points near spawning areas, jigs and minnows are productive. Dark colors in muddy water, light colors near docks and structure in clear water. Catfishing is up and down with the weather and lake levels. Fish flats off of the river channels in 25-45 feet of water with whole shad or rough fish. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing is picking up. Look for brush and structure near docks and marinas, fish will be staged up and reactive to hard baits or plastics. Water temperatures will climb quickly this week as we get near the full moon and warmer days

Realignment in the 2024 spring equated three things for Fannin County's Class 2A and 1A baseball teams: all playing in the same district for the next two seasons, new opponents and, as it turned out, competing against the 2A State champion. Honey Grove, Sam Rayburn and Trenton join reigning State champion Collinsville and three other 2A teams in vying this season for the four available 2A playoffs berths in 11-2A. Meanwhile, Ector and Dodd City have secured the two available 1A playoffs berths via 112A. Savoy also vied for a 1A spot.

BONHAM -- Having a son the same age, Bonham High School baseball manager Seane Parker has been aware of Brae Gorman for a while.

"I've known him since sixth grade, playing on those (baseball) fields out west of town," said Parker. "I've had him on teams who've won tournaments and played against him.

"I've gotten to see him play baseball, track and football," he said. "Brae's done well in all.

"Baseball is his first love and he has excelled at it."

The Bonham senior will extend his diamond days beyond high school as a pitcher for Murray State College in Tishomingo, Okla.

A public signing ceremony commemorating Gorman's decision occurred on April 4 in the Leonard A. Gerner Gymnasium inside Bonham High School, with family, friends, classmates, coaches and others present.

"I know I definitely thought about playing multiple sports in college, but baseball was the right one for me," said Gorman. "It was what I've

worked on my whole life.

"I texted with the coach (at Murray State) and we just clicked." he said.

"We talked for 30 minutes after that.

"I went for a visit and showed them my potential. (Murray State) was just it for me."

As of April 4, Parker noted that Gorman, during the last two years for the Purple Warriors, had struck out 123 batters in 68 innings and held hitters to a .162 batting average - only allowing 43 hits in 265 at bats against him.

He earned an alldistrict honorable mention and secondteam selection for his mound efforts, in 2023 and 2024, respectively, in 11-3A -- which both seasons included perennial State title contender Gunter.

"Having Brae up here at this signing is the culmination of his hard work athletically and academically," said Parker.

"It's one of the most exciting days for a coach.

"His character and demeanor has improved and has gotten him through rough times," said Parker. "His hard work and maturity has made him ready to take his career to the next level."
