ture enacted Chapter 391 of the Texas Local Government Code. The expressed intention of this law was to encourage

and permit local governments to join together and cooperate to improve the health, safety and general welfare of their residents and to plan for future development of their communities, areas and regions. The law provides for the creation by local governments of what has come to be known as 391 Commissions. Subject to local government oversight and

local governments have taken advantage of this opportunity: the opportunity to plan, the opportunity to identify and address threats to residents' health, safety and general welfare. The underlying question is why?

Perhaps this delay is a result of the law, on its face, being complicated and seemingly all encompassing. Under the law, a 391 Commission is

efficiency in the coordinated development of a region. It can if authorized, participate in implementing plans. Other factors may be at play. Local governments may not like having their actions questioned or taking on responsibilities beyond their boundaries. Taxpayers are opposed to unnecessary expenditures. Most citizens are opposed to big government. Many do not want to see competition

This Commission has been around and available since 1987 and allows multiple opportunities and strategies to make the 391 helpful for communities. We need people to come together and work together to tackle the challenges facing our growing County. Judge Cunningham discussed the need to form this Commission now. Why Empty Bowls?

Imagine a simple clay bowl on the table, its surface rough and unpolished. It is empty, its hollow center, a quiet reminder of the pain and silence many carry within. But this bowl, though unfilled, holds potential. Just like the survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, it too has endured the weight of life’s hardships- unseen, unnoticed, perhaps even dismissed. Yet, with time, care, and attention, it can become something more. At Fannin County Family Crisis Center, the bowl is more than just a piece of pottery. It is a symbol of resilience, of the power of support and healing. The survivors, like the clay, show up raw and fragile. But with

guidance, resources, and services offered, they too, can be transformed. Fannin County Family Crisis Center helps to fill the bowl with hope, strength, and the belief that survivors are not alone. The bowls need many hands; those to mold it, those to paint it, and those to fire it. Like the bowl, survivors need many resources to heal. With the help of volunteers, donors, artists, and community members, Fannin County Family Crisis Center can provide resources such as therapy, Women’s Empowerment, parenting classes, and other support unique to each survivor’s story.

To help ensure that survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault receive the critical services needed, we are asking our community to come together. We invite you

Lemon Chiffon pie is a traditional American dessert. The

combination of sweet and tart flavors makes this lemon pie irresistible, and the chiffon is so light it melts in your mouth!

LEMON CHIFFON PIE

1 9" baked pie crust

1½ c. water

½ c. fresh lemon juice

dash of salt

1½ c. granulated sugar (divided)

½ c. unsalted butter

5 Tbsp. cornstarch

½ c. cold water

3 large eggs (separated into yolks and whites)

zest of 1 lemon sweetened whipped cream (for topping)

In a saucepan, bring the water, lemon juice, salt, 1 c. sugar, and butter to a boil over medium-high heat. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and ½ c. cold water until dissolved. Pour into the boiling mixture and reduce heat to low. Cook for 2-3 minutes until thickened, stirring constantly. In a separate bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks. Temper yolks by whisking in a few spoonfuls of the hot lemon mixture. Then pour the tempered yolks back into the saucepan and cook for 1 minute more. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon zest. Let cool for 15 minutes. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat the egg whites on high speed until foamy. Gradually add in the remaining ½ c. sugar and beat until stiff, glossy peaks form, about 3-4 minutes. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the lemon custard base in two additions until fully incorporated. Pour the chiffon filling into the pre-baked pie crust and smooth the top. Gently cover with plastic wrap or wax paper and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until completely set. When ready to serve, top with sweetened whipped cream and garnish as desired with berries or lemon slices.

This would be a great dessert for your Easter table. ENJOY!! Please send me your favorite or unique recipes to Fannin County Leader at 224 N. Main St. Bonham, TX 75418 or email me: fclweesie@ gmail.com

Delmar (Del) K. Peterson

Delmar (Del) K Peterson, 75, passed away on February 6, 2025, in Bonham, Texas. He was born on August 8, 1949, in Wallace, Idaho, the son of Charles and La Jawana Peterson. He proudly served in the United States Army, a chapter of his life that shaped his character and instilled a sense of duty and service to his community. He served in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. For a number of years, Del derived immense pride from leading Christians in Recovery at First Baptist Church Bonham drawing upon his personal struggles with addiction to cultivate a profound sense of purpose in supporting others who wrestled with similar issues. Throughout the years, he sponsored numerous individuals in both AA and NA. His unwavering commitment earned him widespread love and respect. Those familiar with him consistently described him as a man who would unhesitatingly give the shirt off his back, his last morsel of food, or even his last dollar to a complete stranger Del possessed a remarkable gift for disseminating the gospel without restriction. He had a deep personal love for the Lord and never hesitated to share that with others. He would offer to pray for you and give you words of encouragement through scripture without ever causing offense. Del’s Christian testimony was profoundly impactful. Following his military service in Vietnam, Del relocated to California, where he became a member of Hell’s Angels. After surrendering his heart to the Lord, he ardently desired to leave the gang. However, simple withdrawal from Hell’s Angels is prohibited. Notwithstanding, Del’s testimony demonstrates that through fervent prayer, he was unusually permitted to exit the gang, necessitating a relocation to a distant state, which he chose as Texas. Del proudly would say that he was the only member ever allowed to walk away from Hell’s Angels. That was the first miracle as a Christian that Del experienced and he took great pride in sharing this miracle with others.

The friends of Del, whom he considered family, at Hofmann-Mraz Care Home, where he called his home for the last eight years, are grieving his loss deeply. His passing has created a huge void, yet there is much consolation in knowing that Del is now resting at the feet of his heavenly father. He often proclaimed to have no fear of dying because he “knew where he was going”. Delmar is preceded in death by his parents.

A Graveside Memorial Service was held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Willow Wild Cemetery. United States Army Military Honors were rendered.

The Ultimate Sacrifice For Our Sin

Calvary Baptist Church Bonham, Texas

There are many people who faint at the sight of blood. In fact, some get woozy at the mere mention of it.

Hymns about the blood of Jesus have been removed in some newer hymnals, Many churches avoid talking about the blood of Jesus. However, the subject of blood is central to the Bible. From the very

beginning in the Garden of Eden, a blood sacrifice was required for atonement of sin. The sacrificial system in the Old Testament required the shedding of blood from animals to cover sin.

12-18-18

When Jesus came, He shed His own precious, perfect, priceless blood for the ultimate sacrifice for our sin. It is only through His blood we can experience complete

cleansing and freedom from the bondage of sin! Here at Calvary, we make much of the blood of Jesus! “O, precious is the flow that makes us white as snow!” Jesus, thank you for shedding your precious blood on the cross so we can be free from the bondage, burden, and bankruptcy of sin!

Sunday Morning Re-wind

The Lord is Our Guide

Hello everyone!

This week’s devotional comes from Psalm 25:110. Here, we see David’s perception of life as a difficult journey that can only be pursued successfully with the Lord’s guidance. David is worried about his enemies and his faults and asks the Lord for deliverance from both. He, as we should, trusted in the Lord as the God of his (our) salvation, who can hold him back from being ashamed by his enemies and mistakes. We should, as David did, appeal to the Lord for guidance and forgiveness in our lives. This psalm gives us confidence that God will

forgive us of our sins. David presumes this confidence because of his godly heart and attitude. With consistent love, Jesus always cares for those who diligently seek Him. We also see that in this prayer from David, he recognizes the fact that the Lord is good, merciful, loving, upright, and a friend to those who fear Him. God provides wisdom, knowledge, and correction for all kinds of people. If we are willing to listen, rather than being stubborn and arrogant, we can learn from God’s love and follow His will. In 1953, Doris Akers wrote this classic hymn that comes from the message in this passage.

“I am weak, and I need Thy strength and power

To help me over my weakest hour;Let me through the darkness Thy face to see,

Lead me, O Lord, lead me.

Lead me, guide me along the way;For if You lead me, I cannot stray;Lord, let me walk each day with Thee. Lead me, O Lord, lead me.”

If you are looking for a good home church, we invite you to come visit us, and be a part of our church family and worship at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this Sunday!

Unity Of Believers

for the Ivanhoe Church of Christ

Paul encouraged Christians to “speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10). Jesus prayed for unity in the seventeenth chapter of John; “Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are” (John 17:11), “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17), and “that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:2223). The word “UNITY” is found in two books of the Bible. One in the Old Testament; “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1) and one in the New Testament; “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” and “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of

the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:3, 13).

We see the Unity that we should have in Ephesians.

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:1-6).

Just as there is ONE Spirit, ONE Lord, and ONE God, there is also One body, One Hope, One Faith, and One baptism. One body, which Paul said, is the One church (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18). One Hope, which is based upon Jesus (Hebrews 6:18-20). One Faith, from God’s Holy word, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). One baptism, “for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38), to “wash away thy sins” (Acts 22:16), which “doth also now save us” (1 Peter 3:21), which is authorized by “the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19), and those that

are “baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). The burden and responsibility of UNITY rests upon the shoulders of each, and every Christian.

Gallatin musician Eric Blankenship set to make Grand Ole Opry debut in April

JANET SCOTT

Gallatin News

March 20, 2025

Eric Blankenship, the owner and proprietor of All Access Coach Leasing, is no stranger to Gallatin residents. He is frequently recognized for his philanthropy and community spirit. For instance, he was named the Gallatin News Citizen of the Year in 2018, was selected as a Gallatin Gentleman by Gallatin Lifestyle Magazine in 2023 and received the Service to Mankind Award by the Gallatin Sertoma Club in 2024. In addition, All Access Coach

Leasing has won the Main Street Award in its category for the last nine years.

Blankenship’s upscale tour bus business provides coast-to-coast transportation to such A-list artists as Martina McBride, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, Brian Regan, Eric Church, Jason Aldean and many more. Nevertheless, Blankenship came to Nashville in January 1992 for a completely different purpose — to be a country singer. It was an early aspiration.

“I grew up in a small town outside of Dallas, Texas,”

Blankenship said, “and when I was 10 years old, I won a contest singing a song named ‘Dallas,’ written by Leona Williams — a great songwriter I worked with many years later.”

Blankenship kept singing all through his school years — first with his brother, who played piano, and then in various bands.

“We played and sang at fairs, in churches — every-

where we could find,” Blankenship said.

Although he played drums, Blankenship’s voice was his talent, and his goal was to come to Nashville and get a record contract. Just before he moved to Nashville in 1992, he told fans on a local radio station that he was moving to Nashville to have a successful career as a country artist.

“About six months after I moved here in ’92, I got a job selling T-shirts on the road with Ricky Scaggs,” he said. “I was still working to get a record contract, but I had to make some money.”

Later on, having a wife and daughter, Blankenship began driving tour buses full-time for Music City Coach, a company located on North Water Street in Gallatin.

“Life in general kind of took over,” he said. “I still wanted to be a singer, but felt I had to concentrate on my work life.”

At Music City Coach, Blankenship met Jim Borelli, who later partnered with him to start All Access Coach Leasing. Music City Coach had

moved out of the North Water Street building, and in 2008, Blankenship and Borelli bought it — the same building they worked in when they first met.

“We did a complete renovation, but before they tore down those shop offices, I took the door off and it’s hanging on the wall of our entrance right now,” Blankenship said.

Blankenship uses the door as a life lesson.

“I tell my new employees to look at that door,” he said, “because I walked in that door as a worker, and I walked out of that door as an owner. And I encourage my employees to do the same thing — to follow their dreams.”

Second chance at initial dream

Blankenship dedicated himself to building his business and helping his community — but he never forgot about singing, and he never quit singing.

“In 2016, I decided to make a CD — just to record a collection of songs I wanted to sing,” he said. “I called Jim Moose Brown, a buddy I met

back in the 90s — a great musician who won County Music Association (CMA) piano player of the year — and I asked him to produce it.

A few of my musician friends also agreed to help out — Leona Wiliams and Jimmy Fortune, for instance — also county music legends in their own right. I named the CD ‘Rollin’ With the Flow.’”

After that, Blankenship became more musically active.

“I started sitting in with some groups,” he said. “Then about a year ago, Rodney Collins, owner of the Music City Bar and Grill at Opryland, said he thought I should form a band. He said we could play at Music City on Tuesday nights. So, I did that.”

Blankenship’s audience ran the gamut.

“Some nights it was just friends and people passing by, but lately, some of the more well-known artists have been popping in,” he said.

“It’s been kind of awesome.”

Two weeks ago, country legends Ben Isaacs and Jimmy Fortune were in attendance and Blankenship

invited them onto the stage.

“Before the song started, Ben asked what I was doing on April 29,” he recalled. “I said I didn’t know, and he said he wondered if I’d be willing to come and debut on the Grand Ole Opry with the Isaacs.”

Blankenship was floored.

“That’s been a lifelong dream of mine,” he said, “and something I wanted to do at least once, to honor my parents, who always supported this music dream of mine.” In retrospect, Blankenship says he’s happy with his life.

“For a long time, I wondered why music never happened for me,” he said. “In 1992, Ricky Scaggs personally called three labels on my behalf. But it didn’t happen. But a while back, it came to me that I wouldn’t have been able to do the things in this community that have had real, lasting impacts. So now, I do understand why my life unfolded the way it did.” And on April 29, at this unexpected point in his life, Eric Blankenship will fulfill his lifelong dream — singing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

Texas Game Warden Field Notes

Flushing Out a Poacher On Nov. 2, Henderson County Game Wardens filed charges against a man for hunting without landowner consent. The wardens had been investigating the suspect since last deer season, when they found an unusual hunting blind made out of a converted port-apotty. Unable to catch the suspect last year, wardens set up a game camera along the property line in hopes the hunter would return to hunt the same unusual blind. On the opening morning of deer season, the camera captured the suspect walking to his “toilet stand.” Not long after, wardens confronted the hunter and he confessed to hunting without permission. Charges were filed, and the man removed the blind and feeder from the property. Bailout Results in Bale-Out While assisting other law en-

forcement agencies as part of Operation Lone Star, a Texas Game Warden and his K9 partner, Jake, were called to track a bailout suspect. Before starting their search for the bailout, though, Jake alerted to the vehicle — an indication people could be inside. However, Jake and his partner began pursuing the track of the bailout suspect and left the vehicle alone so it could be processed for evidence. After successfully locating and aiding in the apprehension of their suspect, the game warden received a call from the agent at the scene and were surprised to learn the haybale in the bed of the truck had just flipped over and requested assistance. Officers discovered 10 undocumented individuals hiding inside the fake hay bale.

Red Snapper Snag On Nov. 2, Calhoun County and Victoria County Game Wardens conducted an offshore patrol out of Port O’Connor aboard the PV Birmingham to detect undocumented federal charter boats along the nine-mile line. During a routine water safety and fisheries inspection, they found a recreational vessel illegally in possession of 11 red snapper in federal waters during the federal closure. The red snapper were measured and photographed for evidence before being donated to those in need.

We’re #3! Texas is the third most common state to find heartworm positive dogs; partly because the coyote population is a natural reservoir for the worms. Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitos. Since we can find mosquitos in TX year-round, we see the spread of heartworms year-round. Also, in-door only pets are not immune since mosquitos will get inside. Every pet dog, cat and ferret should be given heartworm prevention on the same day every month year-

round. Though it is mostly a dog disease, cats can become infected too; for them the disease is fatal and has NO treatment. It’s even possible for immune-compromised people to become infected with heartworms when they are in close proximity to a population of infected animals. These foot-long worms, don’t actually live in the heart, they live in the blood vessels surrounding the heart. When an infected animal dies, the worms pass into the heart, which is how they got their name. Damage to the pulmonary arteries around the heart begins 4 months after

infection, but the infection cannot be detected in a dog’s blood until 6 months. The adult worms will continue to live there, mating and causing damage for up to 7 years. Clinical signs, such as coughing, do not begin until enough damage is done that it cannot be reversed which is why heartworm disease is often called a silent killer.

Once a dog has heartworm disease, they will always have increased risk for respiratory and heart disease. If left untreated, the dog will eventually go into heart failure because of these worms and require euthanasia. There are so many products available it can be quite confusing to know if your pet is on a heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention or both. There have even been a few documented cases of resistance to certain medications. Resistance is more common when the medications are not given regularly as prescribed. Heartworm prevention is easy and affordable. For the cost of a fastfood meal, cup of coffee or

pack of cigarettes you could protect your pet from this potentially fatal disease for one month. Doing the math, you can purchase 10 years’ worth of prevention for the cost of treating heartworm disease one time. Phone reminders, auto-ship and injectable heartworm preventions can help avoid missed dosing and keep pets protected.
